OjaP: US Immigration Reform Bill

So, I was reading the immigration reform bill proposed by the senate gang of 8 earlier today. It turns out that it is still meaningless to me.

The only thing I am concerned about is the F1 path to green card or citizenship which they weren't even clear on. They only proposed to increase the number of HI-B visas for STEM graduates. And that even requires a company to sponsor/file for you. Shouldn't we be given green card straight upon completion of our studies? I think the proposal is rubbish.

Yvete: LOL you're perfectly fine where you're at. Degree choice is not necessarily a factor in getting sponsorship. The "jobs everywhere" are limited to those with EAD and ONLY if employers are willing to sponsor after graduating (to echo Geodarmy's post). That's the tough nut to crack right there!

You are absolutely correct abt all what you said. Our hope is just that the reform will reduce the redtapes involved in the process of sponsorship so that employers will be more willing to do that. We are also hoping that some of the time-bound conditions after graduation (e.g. opt validity) would be removed so that we will have more options and high flexibility in how to proceed with our career from there onwards.
