Foohard, to be candid, your chances are very slim. I think it's somewhere in the current Immigration and Nationality Act that you can't have two open petitions at a time. Yes, you can still give it a shot since you've come this far and have fairly nothing to lose. @Bigfrancis, you are somewhat right about the proposed revised immigration bill. Yes, it has been passed by the senate but it is still very far from becoming a law. It still has a very high hurdle of surviving the republican-controlled house because, unfortunately, the bill is not supported by the GOP. We can only hope for the best compromise between the senate and the house. |
@Anonymous, pls I need to make some inquiries from you. If you don't mind, kindly shoot me an email at tha65thsquare@yahoo.com or give me yours so I can get in touch asap. Thanks! |
Wow! What a nice cozy corner you guys have here. Will be here once in a while to read your posts and try not to be a spoilsport . |
tinuowo: Hello! Please I av a quetion I would luv you 2 ans me. I just filled my DS-160 Form and there is a part dat said is anybody aware of ur arrival in the US. I wrote my dad's name and contact der. So on checking my i20 well,I noticed they av already appointed an official in international office that is aware of the student-me arrival. Do yu think this doesn't matter or I need to fill another ds-160 form?School official pls. |
valentijay: My school finally agreed to issue me with a new I-20 on the condition that I will pay for the whole first year otherwise my I-20 will be suspended when I come. The document has been given to dhl today.do you think it can arrive here before thursday? Can I cancel my appointment a day to the interview?Na wa for your sch o |
jimtosam: The VO is even putting his job on the line. Cos, according to US law, student can't enter US 30days before resumption. The student got a wrong resumption date on the I-20. Which means he just believed the word of mouth from the guy and he could be wrong. No, he didn't just take him for his word. That was why he asked him to forward a scanned copy of the revised I20 before picking up his visa. Since the information on the new I20 could always be verified, I don't think he risked his job at all. |
bigass: House please is marriage a hindrance for a student visaAbsolutely not! |
valentijay: Hey peeps. My I-20 arrived today only for me to detect that there is an error in the sponsorship. Personal funds was filled for me instead of funds from father. My interview is next week. It is too late to request for a new I-20. What do you suggest that i do? Someone said I should tell the school to send a mail that I can print and take to the embassy stating that it was an error from them. Others said I should reschedule. Pls help out a brother here jimtosam: I will suggest you re-schedule ur appointment..Yes, rescheduling your appointment could be the better option, just like jimtosam said. However, if you so wish, you may want to consider the following alternative, as I summarize below, the story of a friend I advised last year, who was in a similar situation as yours (maybe worse). He had multiple errors on his I-20 including wrong resumption term (summer instead of fall), date of birth and source of funding etc. He got this error-infested I-20 only few days before his interview and I asked him to attend his interview with the I-20, with the belief that if he had a good case (aside his I20 issues), he would not be denied solely because of his I-20. He emailed the school notifying them of these errors and they replied him with an apology, with the promise of revised I20 and with all errors corrected. He went to the embassy with the correspondence along with the I20, and explained to the VO that, due to his difficulty in scheduling an appointment, he wasn't sure he was going to get another appointment date before school resumption, if he had waited for his corrected I-20 to arrive. He didn't want to "waste" the current one he had and so was left with no choice of giving it shot, he further explained. The VO interviewed him normally, gave him his visa pick up ticket, collected his I20 and asked him to only send a scanned copy of the revised one as soon as he had it, before picking up his visa. This was beyond my expectation as the best outcome I had foreseen was for the VO to give him a "call-back letter" i.e. for him to come back to the embassy with the revised I-20 without having to schedule another appointment (as I was given during my own interview. That reminds me, you can even look into my profile and read my experience sometime around November ending, 2011). Also to note that, it was his fourth attempt, although I am not sure whether this was a "minus" or a "plus". Knowing well that each applicant's experience is unique, I just felt I should share this with you. |
bigfrancis21: I think you towed the line of error by generalizing there. International students DO GET FINANCIAL AID. Financial aid or assistance all mean the same thing. However, international students are not entitled to all financial aids native americans are entitled to. Such as the FAFSA financial aid which is solely reserved for US citizens and perm residents. Other scholarships abound too which are reserved only for citizens and perm residents. GboyegaD: I think you are using a wrong term here. International students are not entitled to Financial Aid and they do not get same. Both of you are right kind of. Financial Aid may be generally termed by some schools (as on their website) to encompass any form of financial support/assistance ranging from FAFSA, loan, scholarships, tuition waivers, assistantships, etc. (Just like Bigfrancis' point of view) However, here in the US, when you say "FINANCIAL AID" (the real financial aid), it means only that from FAFSA, which is only accessible by QUALIFYING citizens and permanent residents. (Just like Gboyega's point of view) |
Congrats to everyone who got their visas. Ope, on the contrary, that your spouse is in the school was even a boost not a red flag (and I guess you were on already on F2). Still, one cannot rule out the favor of God. Congrats again! |
This is just to further clarify things for some of the new prospective applicants/students. The number of schools you apply to is a function of so many things i.e f(MONEY, determination, what you are looking for, etc) - different situations for different people. Although some people only applied to just one school and got EXACTLY what they wanted, simple probability sense would tell us that the larger the number of schools you applied to, the higher the chances of getting what you REALLY want. I for one applied to 9 schools in total (including 5 in the US). As for the embassy, there is ABSOLUTELY no way the VO can know how many schools you applied to except you let him know. That TOEFL/GRE scores are sent to schools does not necessarily mean one applied to those schools. For example again, in my own case, I applied to only one out of the four schools listed in my first TOEFL/GRE report. So this means I had several other official score reports, each corresponding to the schools I eventually applied to. I could have presented any of these without the VO knowing the actual number of schools I applied to. The bottom line is, there's nothing like applying to many schools for the embassy's sake, it is ABSOLUTELY for your own sake! In this regard, you can tell the VO anything you want him to know (3, 4, 20 ...), whether true or not (left to your own principles/conscience). |
technolee: Hello my fellow NL's, below is the 90secs interview with my paddy. No document whatsoever was requested for. He is ready for the VO anyway as he has GRE, TOEFL,.... Just name it. Enjoy the movie......My big congrats to your Paddy! . |
Congrats to all who got their visas, that's really great to hear. Also, a big kudos to those helping here one way or the other. |
Charleez! Your interview is Just the bomb!! You were very constructive and showed a very high level of objectivity. Now that's how to handle an American during any interview. Don't lose this skill, because you will find it even more useful when interviewing for jobs here. With this, you have justified my coming to nairaland today despite my strangely busy summer schedule. Thank you very much, I'm grateful for that. |
teejay_GO01: Its 5x5 not 2x25x5 ke In what units of measurement pls It is supposed to be 2"x2" o unless na full size picture dem dey require now. ![]() |
ivory23456: I was granted the visa today after may 2nd rejection.Congrats!!! |
Stabbo, I'm finding it difficult to find what to fix in your next interview, although it seems there was some kind of misunderstanding from the VO's side. Like someone said, may be it's just pure luck. I wish you a very much better one next time by when I'm sure you would get it. |
Kunsoft: i think you over shoot your monthly earnings compare with the nature of job you said you do. without further details. If a system administrator could earn such money she feels there is no need of you to travel. abi house? ThanksI strongly disagree sir. |
bigfrancis21: Hahaha! Oops...its part of the etc...Now correctly written ![]() |
hope4me2012: Hmmn..... just updating the appointment profile is insufficient, because his appointment permit will already have the old ds160 number.Oh Yes, it is sufficient! He can call but doesn't have to call. He can always do this himself on the update profile tab where he can change the ds160 confirmation number. Another appointment ticket with the updated confirmation id will automatically be emailed. Just checked it, nothing has changed. Either way, this will save the stress of cancelling and looking for another date. |
hope4me2012: @flynbird,He doesn't even need to cancel the appointment, he just needs to fill another ds 160 and update his appointment profile with the application id of the new one. |
technolee: God bless you mehn! Exactly why I said capital NO. You cannot book unless you have the I-20 or you have informed your school to mail it to your contact person in yankee and the person then scan and send to you before mailing to you proper. Anyway, you can start the process as you will need some other things like your passport number, choice of state for the interview, etc. Please, let us treat another issue and move forward because, I scheduled for a friend yesterday and I hope to come back here in 33days time for thanksgiving.Just to let you know that I booked my appointment long before I had an idea of what my i20 looked like. (Just like I've done for a lot of people). I just got the necessary details-sch code and sevis id from the admissions officer, so NO it's not a capital NO. You don't need the physical i20 or a scanned copy before you book. There are always some "tips" which you can only have from experience and I don't see how it hurts to know them. |
flynbird: Ok. But If I'm not wrong I think i read somewhere on this thread that says one can secure an appointment date, While filling out the DS form online..... I mean like saving and completing it later before submitting. All before the interview dateYea, you can actually initiate a ds160 application, take note of your application id (which will eventually be your confirmation id after submission), then go ahead to schedule an appointment with the application id. You can then submit the ds160 application after scheduling. But then, I think scheduling appointment will also require your sevis id and sch code. If it does require, I am not sure (can't remember) if you can enter some random details and change it in the update profile tab after you get the real details, as can be done for confirmation id (should you decide to fill a new ds160). If you can just get your sevis id and sch code (or find sch code in Google) then you'll be all set. Else, you can just patiently wait for your docs to arrive. |
flynbird: Guys is it possible to schedule an appointment with the embassy without having my I-20 yet. School resumes soon. Just need to secure a space before then but before then I should have my I-20 and all.quote author=technolee] Capital NO. Not without a code on your I-20. Just get everything you need ready and you follow up as soon as you get the paper. Enjoy[/quote]It's not a capital NO. 1) If your I20 has not been prepared at all, then It's a NO. 2) If it has been prepared and you are waiting for it to be mailed and you could get your school code and sevis id (which you may be able to get from your international admissions office), then, per the last time I checked, you can go ahead to book your appointment. 3) If you think you have enough time, you can wait for the I20. Now that I'm thinking about 1) again, I am thinking there's even a way around that. |
Congrats dkgetmuny and bones! Dkgetmuny, u can contact me if you have any questions. See you in a bit. |
ivory23456: @bigfrancis21: congrats on the visa approval o, i tap into your annointingI guess you meant congrats in advance, and yes, it's in order. |
bigfrancis21: Tuale.A big congratulations to you Frank! You must have done a lot of extra work getting that administrative assistantship and it is very well deserved. Kudos to you!! From my own experience so far, administrative assistantships are mostly usually available to students already on campus, and trust me, when you say it's not easy to get that from "across the atlantic", I understand you completely. |
GboyegaD: Were you able to save PDF on your phone? I tried to but couldn't save it.I didn't try it, I did it on a pc. |
Square65: I'm trying to upload the third part but I'm getting this error "1547915450" and I'm wondering what that means ...Okay, finally... |
Square65: The other one is larger than the 200kb limit, so I split it into 3 parts.I'm trying to upload the third part but I'm getting this error "1547915450" and I'm wondering what that means ... |
