Lol, I have met a lot of computer engineers who could not fix simple mother issues and I begin to wonder what they are being taught at the university.


Well, the reason why most organisations go for Indians and others is because we do a lot of trial and error in Nigeria, take our mechanics for example, in fact they will end up causing more damage to your car.

I learnt computer engineering in Nigeria and I can tell you that most of the jobs were trial and error.

After I finish learning, I had to learn more and guess who I went to? The Indians.
They will teach you the theory and practicals, they will teach you the right way of doing things.

I can tell you that I'm 100% better than before in advance Iaptop chip level repair, I remember asking one of my seniors back then some questions and he was like I was just laughing.
The world is evolving and technology is evolving but Nigeria is still stagnant.

Our curriculum on many disciplines are a disgrace. Engineering students are taught pre-industrialization mechanics, electrical students are taught Faraday-level basics and electronics majors are a joke.

Our tutors are unambitious, uninspired, talentless lemmings.

The worst is computer engineering. They teach Cobol and Fortran endlessly, and almost none of the modern OOP languages (if they try it's just Java and C++). They don't do AI or ML or anything remotely modern.

Computer labs are stocked with legacy equipment.

And i also wonder why examination bodies like Jamb disallow calculators. I don't imagine anyone will encounter a real-world situation where they don't have access to calculators and other devices designed explicitly to make things easier and more accurate.

Useless and pompous PhDs and Professors who don't discover, invent, innovate or even improve. They're not abreast with modern trends, once they collect their doctorates and whatnot they're accomplished, deliberately dressing and wearing 1970s hairstyle because they think it somehow projects knowledge.

Imagine so-called IT experts calling IT "ICT", when no one else does that. Information and communication have been merged, as one without the other is meaningless. You communicate information, don't you? So to the world it's plain "IT", but to our local dinosaurs it's still "ICT". That shows their being behind the times.

You go to our "ICT" labs and all you'll see are old desktops and LaserJets. No robotics, no arduinos, no breadboards nothing.

Our education system is terrible. Cavemen from the Paleolithic can do much better

They don't know that everyone has to compete for jobs with the intelligent Asians and Arabs- as in, unemployable nigerian graduates competing with the brilliant asians. Yesterday, I commended the efforts of Lagos State Agencies for their response to the sad incident & the situation report released yesterday by LASEMA's General Manager. This shows not everything is bad about Nigeria. Lagos is working. Lagos has so many agencies in different areas from finance, Judiciary, commerce down to transport & emergency management where the agencies at work yesterday night till this morning carried out their duties.

That is why the casualties are not much and the road cleared less than 24hrs. Continuity from Tinubu, Fashola to Ambode has made management of large government ministries & agencies a working one.

What is your solution regarding our professors? The highest ranking tertiary university we have is in Ibadan which should be around 1000th in the world but it's among the top ten African universities and Nigeria has up to 20 universities in the top hundred within Africa, so you should broaden your critism to Africa not just Nigeria. Another point is that this is Western education we are talking about, not African education so you shouldn't be surprised if the West is far ahead of us, it's theirs, we are only learning from them.
Read your books, you have been given the opportunity to get Western education from the source, which is also the foundation of survival there, pray that they look beyond your skin color and allow you to progress. Many cannot afford it, even US citizens have to apply for loans and scholarships to complete university and college.
Many Nigerian parent raise money for their kids to study abroad, all expense paid. Many US parents cannot afford to send their children through universities hence they have to seek for loans and scholarship, many still do student jobs to cope

The program entails 36unit credit hours in total which is further to 9credit hours per semester , this make the program ruin for four semesters. I will also be attending some lab sessions in accident investigation and root cause analysis of industrial accident. I will be taking risk engineering, ergonomics, accident investigation , emergency services safety , accident forensics, human factors engineering as course.
Vo- who is paying your tuition?
Me- actually, my father is my major sponsor couple with my personal savings towards books and some living expenses . My father work with Lagos state ministry of work and housing and he is a civil and structural engineer. He own a small construction company. I also got a $200k scholarship from the school towards my tuition each semester.

Actually it's not. Three friends of mine are doctors over there and two of them complain like crazy. One is content with the place. The foreign doctors are paid less than the regular Saudi doctors and nurses. Likewise, the people treat the foreign doctors like shit. The pay though is better than what they pay in Nigeria. Also, they can be a stepping ground to moving to another country... That's the positive about it I guess. The women, I hope, researched how Saudi treats women before applying. I don't think any woman that's used to freedom will be okay with the limitation given to women over there, doctor or no doctor title, you'll be subgated to their rules.
