1) Tarantulas Can Throw Their Hair Apparently being a scary-ass spider isn’t enough. While we don’t doubt that even the tarantula has enemies, it’s funny to think that this large, creepy arachnid would need anything more than a stern look to ward off enemies, but apparently it does. When some other animal is brave enough to come after this large hairy spider it does the most logical thing possible – it tears the hairs off its own legs and hurls them at its attacker. And it works. The hair is relatively sticky and causes problems for those trying to eat this beastly-looking spider, especially if it gets in their eyes. While most humans seem to be deathly afraid of spiders, the tarantula is actually rather defenseless and dies easily, especially if knocked from a high perch. We guess this hair tossing helps, since the species has lived on, athough it seems relatively ineffective to us.

2) Horned Lizards Can Squirt Blood From Their Eyes Here’s a fun defense mechanism. Horned lizards, when threatened, increase the blood flow to their eyes and shoot a stream of blood out of their eye sockets at their enemies. Not only is this gross, but it’s also highly effective. Oddly enough the blood isn’t poisonous or deadly, it’s just alarming and confusing as hell. Which is totally understandable because which one of us wouldn’t be shocked if a five-foot stream of blood shot out of someone’s eye socket at us! It’s utterly spectacular, and seems to work very well. Let’s just hope we humans don’t figure this one out, because we’re gross enough as it is.
|
3) Dolphins’ Brains Work While They Sleep Again, at least this one makes some sense. When a dolphin sleeps, apparently only half its brain sleeps with it. So what’s the other half doing? Actually something very useful it seems. No, it’s not figuring out the mysteries of organic chemistry or plotting some awful retribution on human beings for polluting the ocean – it makes sure the dolphin comes up for air while it sleeps so it doesn’t drown. That’s not only pretty useful, but also badass. “Hold on, I’ll just take a nap, don’t worry my brain won’t let me drown!” said every dolphin everywhere. It’s like if you got up at 2 AM and made a McDonalds run because your body was demanding food, but never woke up.

4) There Exist Immortal Jellyfish Imagine living in a world where you grow up and reach sexual maturity. Eager for a little fun you decide you’re not quite ready for a hectic life of online dating, expensive dinners and unfulfilled sexual promises so you organically modify your body type and revert back to being a Lego-eating toddler. Hard to believe? Well there’s a species of jellyfish called the Turritopsis Nutricula that can do just that. With just a bit of transdifferentiation this wondrous creature can turn back time – making it essentially immortal. Seems like a pretty cool gig.

5) Female Ferrets Are Literally Dying to Mate Dating is difficult, but for the ferret it’s a life-altering experience. Female ferrets that go into heat and don’t find a mate are so traumatized by the rejection (or so we assume) that they just up and die. That’s right, if the ferret doesn’t get herself laid she just keels over and calls it quits. Talk about pressure to perform. On the plus side, if you’re a male ferret out on the town for the night the odds of you going home alone are ridiculously low.

6) Crocodiles Eat Stones At least we can explain this oral fixation. Crocodiles will routinely eat stones, but they at least have a very good reason – it helps them swim. While a crocodile stomach can break down a hearty turtle shell, the acid isn’t quite strong enough to destroy stone. Some crocodiles will swallow stones by accident, but most do it because it gives them ballast which helps when they submerge themselves. As if being a fearsome meat-eating machine isn’t enough, we now have to worry about these beasts figuring out better ways to swim? It’s only taken a few million years to perfect this tactic, let’s hope it takes that long for them to figure out how to drive a car.
|
7) Flamingos Eat Upside Down As if being a giant orange or pink bird wasn’t cruel enough. Flamingos, those wonderfully long-necked birds can only eat when their head is upside down. Why? Who the hell knows. Perhaps it was a mean joke because having an obnoxiously long neck and legs doesn’t make one self-conscious enough, we might as well make them eat with their face upside down. At any rate, it seems physically impossible for a flamingo to eat awith its head right side up. No word yet on if some brave scientist has funded a grant to strap these creatures down and force-feed them to see if their biology works when “upright.”

Cows Eat Facing the North or South PoleSpeaking of cows, did you know they eat only when facing north or south – always, every, single, damn time. Google Earth has led to many discoveries but none more bizarre perhaps than the realization that cows always face one of the earth’s magnetic poles when they eat. No one really knows why for sure, but like many animals, cows seem to have a magnetic sense of which way is north. When they stand and eat they apparently feel the sense to align their body facing magnetic north or south. There are also accounts of power lines being too close and screwing with this innate sense. No one really knows why, but maybe that’s not the right question. Maybe we should be asking if anyone cares.a

9) Animals Can Commit Suicide Unfortunately, like us people, some animals just can’t handle life anymore, or so it would seem. There are an incredibly high number of mass animal deaths. Most of the ones we record are believed to be mass suicides, and many date back to the 1800s when people starting wondering why in the hell a bunch of animals were jumping off cliffs. There’s a bridge in Scotland where dogs seem to want to leap from and there are cases of birds committing mass suicide in India. It doesn’t seem to be limited to a certain species of breed. There have been accounts of squids, shrimps, and whales washing up en masse on shore to die for no reason, cows and sheep who leap from cliffs by the dozens, and many more. Scientists are perplexed, but most believe conditions in the climate or atmosphere play a role in these tragic situations.
|
10) Turtles Have Favorite Colors Turtles rely primarily on sight for finding food, mates, and shelter. In fact, turtles are so dependent on their sight that when they lose it they literally cannot survive. Many animals can get by with an engorged sense of smell or taste, but not the turtle. As such turtles seem to gravitate towards certain colors – such as red, orange and yellow. Mostly they try to eat things this color first, so if you’re in the business of luring turtles maybe you want to try some tomatoes or something similar in color. At any rate, given a choice a turtle will gravitate towards these colors first.

A middle aged woman has given birth to a baby with four legs in Aboridendeme-Ama community in Okrika Local Government area of Rivers State. Hospital source where the woman delivered the baby, however, told newsmen that the baby died shortly after its delivery. A hospital official confirmed that it was a deformed baby, noting that the deformity may have been caused by congenital anomaly. She said: “the woman came with a full term pregnancy but on the time of her delivery, even her scan had shown a normal baby, but when she delivered, we saw this extra part of the baby. “The baby had 3 legs, four arms and 3 ears; even the baby’s stomach was open that one could see the intestines. “It was so obscure that we don’t know whether she was trying to abort the child.” Meanwhile, some residents of Aparandeleama community said they were still in shock, adding that they had never seen such a thing before. I Just call it end time oo!

This designer is definitely thinking outside the box, way way outside the box, so far outside she’s thinking ‘Instead of having to keep wallets in your wallet or look for a nearby pharmacy, why not just wear them?’ Adriana Bertini had fashionistas envious of her latest creations until they found they were made out of condo.ms. Bertini launched her glitzy range of dresses made out of unused condo.ms at an international Aids conference in Melbourne, the Brazillian designer is an activist and her Condo.m Couture range has been spreading awareness of safe s*x for a while now. Ads by BetterMarkItAd Options Her workshops help spread awareness by encouraging young people to get to grips with condoms in a creative environment. Some of her designs have even made it to the catwalk to spread the message as safe s*x and female empowerment have been central to her designs. Personally, I think the idea is amusing but that’s as far as it goes, it’s not a fashion statement, nope, once you remember what the ‘clothes’ are made of, your brain can’t help but register it as gross.

A cheating husband is more common than you’d like to think. According to studies, almost 60% of married men become involved with a woman other than their wife at some point in a marriage. It may be just a passing fling, a one-night stand or an affair that lasts for years — most of the time, the wife has no idea what is going on. If you want to protect yourself so this never happens to you, or if you think that something dodgy is already going on, you might want to keep an eye out for these 5 crucial warning signs that your husband is cheating on you: 1. He has developed a close and personal relationship with his phone. Is your husband suddenly more attached to his phone than he used to be? Does he take all his calls in private and then whisper? If you see him get nervous when the phone rings, rush to pick it up, and retreat into the other room, you can be sure that there’s something to worry about. If he has always been like this, then don’t read too much into it. But if this is a habit that he has developed lately, make a point of looking into it. Have a look at his call and text history. Does he delete it every time he hangs up? Does he become agitated when his phone is in your hands? These are additional red flags. 2. His attitude has changed overnight. Changes in mood can often occur and it doesn’t always mean that an affair is the reason; a stressful job, financial problems, and many other issues can be what’s hiding behind these mood swings. But if your husband is becoming unexpectedly irritated and for no good reason, then you may want to check it out. Is he picking fights? Is he storming out of the house, disappearing for hours and then coming back home looking strangely calm? If little things seem to bother him now more than they used to, then it means that something has changed. 3. He is always busy and spends little time at home. Is your husband rarely home anymore? Is he always working, exercising, hanging out with friends or engaging in activities which never before used to occupy this much time? Are his runs, drives home, or office hours getting longer? If so, then you may want to join him next time he goes out with friends. Or go for a run with him. Confront him on the fact that he’s spending very little time with you and propose that you start doing something together as a couple. If he’s thrilled with the idea, then there was never anything for you to worry about. If he dismisses it, however, then take this as a warning sign that something is wrong. 4. He pays a lot more attention to his appearance. Most men want to look good, but if your husband has started transforming into a completely different person, then you may want to look into it. It may just be a mid-life crisis… but it could be that he’s trying to please someone else. If he’s also spending a lot of time with you, paying attention to you, and wanting to heat things up again, then he’s obviously making a conscious effort to become the man you once fell in love with. But if he’s exercising more than usual, buying new clothes, spending a lot of time in the bathroom, and dressing up — only to leave the house for long hours, this should definitely be taken as a sign that he might be seeing someone else. 5. He has become overly defensive for no reason. Is your partner getting angry every time you ask him where he was or what time he’s planning on coming home? Is he challenging you? Is he attacking you before you get the chance to ask anything? These are often signs that something is wrong. If your husband is doing something dishonest behind your back, he will be touchy and overly defensive. He will want to avoid questions and at times even attack you or pick a fight to get the upper hand. He might go as far as to accuse you of having an affair to deflect his own guilt and misguide you. Make sure you keep an eye out for these signs that your husband is cheating on you, and also remember that it often runs in the family. So, if one of your partner’s parents was a routine cheater, you may have more of a reason to worry. Address the issue and discuss the situation with your husband as soon as any of the above signs start to appear.

6. Victoria’s Secret Millennium Bra / Star of Victoria Bra; Heavenly “70“ Fantasy Bra / The Royal Bra – All $10 million These four Fantasy Bras were all showcased at different fashion shows, and they are all worth about $10 million each. The “Millennium Bra” was featured in 1999 to celebrate the turn of the century. The glittering garment was strutted around by supermodel Heidi Klum, and it was encrusted with over 2,000 exquisite diamonds and sapphires (to mark the whole “year 2000” thing) all set in platinum. Strangely, it was not featured on the runway. In 2002, Karolina Kurkova was the chosen Angel to wear the “Star of Victoria” Fantasy Bra, featuring an awe-inspiring 1,150 rubies and 1,600 emerald leaves. It was designed by the jeweler Mouawad as part of the Objet d’Arts Collection, and had a total weight of 320 carats. The “Heavenly “70“ Fantasy Bra” was designed by jeweler Mouawad and modeled by Tyra Banks in 2004, getting its namesake from a flawless 70-carat pear-shaped diamond cradled in the middle of the piece. It took over 270 hours to craft. The most recent $10 million Fantasy Bra was called “The Royal” and was showcased by supermodel Candice Swanepoel at the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It was covered in over 4,200 precious gems such as diamonds, rubies, and yellow sapphires, all set in 18K gold, and also a 52-carat, pear-shaped ruby shined as the centerpiece. It came with a matching bow and belt. According to the South African supermodel, the bra came with two bodyguards and everyone had to wear gloves when putting the pricey undergarment on her body.

7. Victoria’s Secret Hearts on Fire Diamond Fantasy Bra – $6.5 million The centerpiece of the glamorous 2006 Victoria’s Secret fashion show was the Hearts on Fire diamond-studded Fantasy Bra. The Victoria floral motif is centered with a 10 carat diamond brooch, and the rest of the bra is comprised of over 2,000 smaller diamonds. The stones took over 20,000 hours of labor to perfectly cut and polish, while the bra itself took over 300 hours to design and fabricate. Victoria’s Secret Angel Karolina Kurkova modeled the gorgeous piece and, unusually, the fantasy bra was featured in the Christmas Dreams catalogue - in case someone wanted to turn their expensive fantasy into an expensive reality.

8. Anamika Khanna ORRA Diamond Bustier – $1.3 million Indian designer Anamika Khanna teamed up with ORRA diamonds to create this diamond-studded bustier in 2010. Marketed as the most expensive bustier in the world, it was hand-crafted and studded with Belgian diamonds, making it worth 1 million euros. It took a team of stylists, designers, and craftsmen 6 months to create. Indian model Anjali Lavania introduced the dazzling bustier at a 2010 fashion show, and then Bollywood actress Malaika Arora went on to don the opulent undergarment a while later. As stated by ORRA CEO Vijay Jain, “While the design is influenced by the strong Indian heritage, they have used the finest Belgian diamonds in this magnificent piece, making it a true luxurious and one of a kind creation in the world of diamonds.” It seems that Anamika Khanna is trying to give Victoria’s Secret a run for their money

9. Gold Lingerie from Shenyang City, China – $26,000 This piece of yellow gold lingerie set was showcased at a 2007 lingerie and jewelry exhibit. It reportedly took four different craftsmen four months to make the piece, valued at $26,000. The lingerie set was carved from 950 grams of pure yellow gold. It was displayed for three weeks at a jewelry shop, but – unsurprisingly – never sold. As elegant as it looks, the fact that it didn’t sell demonstrates the perhaps foolhardy marketing strategy behind showcasing ridiculously expensive lingerie without a marketable celebrity name attached to it.

In 2002, South African goldsmith and jeweler Uwe Koetter created this $20,000 gold, pearl, and diamond encrusted chastity belt for a British client from Cape Town. It’s our best guess that the client was a male, because there’s no way a woman would ever buy this for herself… surely? The chastity belt dates back to the Renaissance her privates under lock and key. The original iron chastity belts were prone to problems, though: If the woman didn’t have the appropriate cloth padding between herself and the metal frame, she could fall victim to lead poisoning and, in some cases, death. Ouch. The pricey recreation of such an item is, thus, at best questionable… But it probably makes for a good conversation piece.

1 Tequila Ley .925 – $3,500,000 Crafted by the same minds behind the Henry IV Dugonon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne, the Tequila Ley .925 is a tequila that has a unique production process, in the sense that it’s been distilled specifically for terrible people. Like the Henry IV (…), the Tequila Ley .925 is in a bottle that contains 6,400 diamonds, which add to the which add to the taste of the tequila through…some kind of process. Look, there’s diamonds all over the bottle. Just buy it, don’t be so cheap. The bottle was unveiled in Mexico City in front of a crowd who applauded when it was revealed. Remarkably no one is really sure just how it tastes, considering that no one – at least to the public’s knowledge – has purchased it. The company behind Tequila Ley .925 must really be banking on the old adage ‘build it, and they will come’. For humanity’s sake, we hope they’re wrong. 2 Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne – $2,000,000 The Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne doesn’t care what you think, maggot. The Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne has more elaborate words in its name than any other alcohol. It’s a cognac for a king, which we kind of alluded to by naming it after Henri IV. The Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne has been aged for 100 years.

3 Diva Vodka – $1,000,000 You may be mistaken in assuming that a brand of vodka named ‘Diva Vodka’ would cost $24 and taste like expired nail polish remover; I know I was. Surprisingly someone, somewhere, gave the green light to this gaudy experiment. The vodka is triple filtered, first through ice and then through Nordic birch charcoal, and finally through sand containing precious gems. Because if there’s one thing that makes alcohol better, it’s knowing that at some point it came into contact with a shiny stone. The real cost of the bottles comes from the packaging though; there are Swarovski crystals stacked up in the middle of the bottle that can be taken out and used as a garnishment for your drink. You couldn’t make this up if you tried.
