3. Hypertrichosis Also known as Ambras Syndrome, hypertrichosis is a rare medical condition that causes an abnormal amount of hair growth over the body. In fact, hypertrichosis is often called “werewolf syndrome.” Since the Middle Ages there has only been 50 verified cases of the disease. There are two types of hypertrichosis: generalized and localized. Generalized hypterichosis causes abnormal hair growth over the entire body, while localized hyprtrichoiss only affects certain parts of the body. It’s unknown what causes Ambras Syndrome, but most experts health believe the condition is a genetic disorder. Julia Pastrana is the most famous case of hypertrichposis. She took part in exhibition tours -or freak shows -in the 19th and early 20th century.

4. Tungiasis Tungiasis is a skin infestation caused by chigoe fleas. Native to Africa, Central and South America, India, and the Caribbean, female chigoe fleas burrow into the skin of a warm-blooded host and lay eggs. Feeding on blood vessels, the chigoe fleas create a lesion that gradually expands beneath the skin. Typically, the lesion is red and has a black dot at the center. Tungiasis causes inflammation and severe pain. In 2009, tungiasis was present in 88 countries with particularly high concentrations of the disease in Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Brazil. To treat tungiasis, the flea needs to be surgically extracted from the skin.

5. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, also known as Cutis Hyperelastica, is an inherited skin disorder that affects the connective tissue. The condition causes an extreme collagen deficiency. Collagen creates firm skin, and when it’s not properly produced the skin becomes thin and easily extendable, like putty or a limp sack. This in turn can lead to muscle and joint problems, brittle bones, and blood disorders. One in 5,000 people are born with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Not everyone born with EDS experiences the same symptoms, however. Some cases of the condition are mild, while others are life threatening. There’s no known cure.

6. Vitiligo Vitiligo is a condition that results in depigmentation of parts of the skin, and it usually affects the extremities. The disease occurs when skin pigment cells –melanocytes –die or are compromised and unable to function properly. The depigmentation causes whitish, gray patches to appear on the skin; these white patches can also appear on the eyes and mucous membranes. 1-3 percent of the world’s population is afflicted with vitiligo. The skin condition is complex and not well understood. Research suggests it is caused by an autoimmune, inflammatory, or genetic disease. Environmental factors may also play a role, as well as neural or viral stress.

7. Blaschko’s Lines The lines of normal epidermal cell development in the skin are typically invisible. Nevertheless, these lines can become visible when diseases of the skin or mucosa manifest themselves according to the patterns. German dermatologist Dr. Alfred Blaschko first described the phenomenon in 1901. Blaschko studied 140 patients with skin lesions and discovered that the patterns were similar in each patient. The lines follow a V-shape over the back and upper spine, an S-shape over the chest and stomach, and wavy lines along the side of the head. These lines give patients the appearance of having Zebra-like stripes. The patterns don’t correspond to nervous, muscular, or lymphatic systems and are said to be the result of mosaicism.

8. Dermatographic Urticaria Also known as skin writing, this condition affects roughly 4-5 percent of the world’s population. When the skin is scratched, the scratch reddens into a raised welt. These welts, or wheals, are a subset of urticario (hives) and can last up to 30 minutes. It’s not known what causes dermatographia. However, infections, emotional stress, and penicillin have been known to trigger it. Anything that causes stress to the skin, such as heat, cold, or tight clothing can worsen symptoms. Strangely enough, prolonged exposure to a microwave is also believed to trigger dermatographia. But then again, what medical condition hasn’t a microwave been blamed for?

9. Argyria Argyria, colloquially known as the Smurf Disease, is a skin condition caused by an overexposure to silver. The most extreme symptom of argyria is that the skin turns a cobalt blue or grayish color. In 2008, Paul Karason was featured on The Today Show for having blue skin. Apparently, Karason suffered from severe dermatitis and began self-medicating by taking a banned substance called colloidal silver. Karason’s extreme silver consumption caused his face to turn blue. Karason has taken the substance for 14 years, and while it’s done little to help his dermatitis, he says it has improved his arthritis and acid reflux. Silver was banned as an over-the-counter product in 1999.

Warning! Graphic images below. 10. Morgellons Disease Is it a real medical condition or a sci-fi-like delusion? Morgellons Disease is a controversial disorder in which patients feel crawling, biting, stinging, and other cutaneous symptoms. Unusual thread-like fibers often appear under the skin, and persistent sores and lesions are common. Mary Leitao, head of Morgellons Research Foundation, coined the disorder in 2002, and it’s been a lightning rod of controversy and speculation. After lobbying the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the condition, the CDC issued a 2012 report declaring that there were no disease organisms in Morgellons patients. The CDC said the fiber-like threads under the skin consisted mainly of cellulose. Medical experts, however, are divided on the cause of the Morgellons disease. Some say it’s a physical illness, while others believe it’s a psychosis called delusional parasitosis. Others file it under “unexplained dermopathy.”

Cameroon says Chad will send a large contingent of troops to help it fight incursions from the Nigeria-based militant Islamist group, Boko Haram. The announcement came a day after Chad said it would "actively support" its neighbour against the militants. No detail was given about how many troops would be sent, or when. On Tuesday, Cameroon said it had killed 143 Boko Haram militants who attacked one of its army bases at Kolofata near the Nigerian border. It said one soldier had died during the assault, which led to a gun battle lasting five hours. It was the first major attack on Cameroon since Boko Haram threatened the country's leader in a video posted online earlier this month. The militant Islamist group has seized control of towns and villages in north-east Nigeria in a six-year insurgency. Get full news here http://m.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30847327 |

Breast milk has long been thought of solely as the food necessary for a newborn to grow into a healthy young child. The perception is that breast milk is really just that: food for a baby. Upon further research, it becomes apparent that there is a vast array of uses for breast milk other than feeding a baby, although some of them are almost too crazy to believe. From the practical and the resourceful, to the mildly disconcerting and just plain shocking, breast milk has a lot more to offer than just nourishment for a baby. However, few of them, if any, are considered to be mainstream uses for the product. All the same, there are few things more natural than a mother’s breast milk, so might as well try to get as much use out of it as possible, right? Here are ten of the most interesting, potentially uncomfortable, and in one case hilariously shocking, alternative uses for breast milk. 10. Chicken Pox/Poison Oak The vast majority of us have probably experienced a nasty case of the chicken pox as a child, or, if totally unlucky, as an adult. With that in mind, the fabled oatmeal bath said to help reduce the itching of the chicken pox is also an experience many of us have shared, and let’s not forget the Calamine lotion to be applied on the pox afterwards. Poison oak and poison ivy can be treated much in the same way, but apparently, breast milk is as good a remedy for chicken pox and the poison oak and ivy as any oatmeal bath or Calamine lotion. By applying breast milk to the areas affected by the pox or poison oak/ivy irritations, the milk acts in the same way as lotion, reducing itchiness and also helping to heal any blisters or sores, as well as minimizing potential scarring. 9. Sore Throat The idea of gargling breast milk instead of salt water when you get that tingling or burning feeling in your throat may seem wholly unappealing, but it reportedly works. Some reports even claim that gargling with breast milk will actually help sooth your sore throat much quicker than over the counter remedies, all the while acting as a preventative agent for further illness, helping to stave off that cold or flu you feel is on its way when you wake up with a burn in the throat. Not sure exactly if the idea outweighs the potential pros, but if you can get over the somewhat odd notion of breast milk as a throat coat, it may just be worth a try. 8. Birth Control Who knew? Women who breast-feed have a natural birth control in their milk. Scientifically, “lactational amenorrhea is the natural postnatal infertility that occurs when a woman is amenorrheic and fully breastfeeding.” The effectiveness of this type of birth control is around 98% for up to six months post birth. So in reality, if you want to ensure that you can keep baby number one from meeting a new brother or sister anytime soon, breast-feed. There haven’t been enough studies to necessarily find a practical over the counter use for breast milk as birth control, but some research suggests that this may be a benefit to new mothers only. 7. Contact Lens Solution While gargling breast milk for a sore throat may not be the most appealing thought to someone feeling a cold or flu coming on, the idea of soaking your contact lenses in breast milk seems even more uncomfortable. Literally touted as a replacement for the saline solution those of us who wear contacts are so accustomed to, breast milk has been reported to clean contact lenses as effectively, and also keep the contact lenses as clean over time as over the counter solutions. Again, this practical use if indeed effective, seems reasonable to try if you can A) get over the fact that you have breast milk in your eye and B) actually get a hold of breast milk easier than over the counter contact lens solution. 6. Food Baking, cooking, creating culinary delights with breast milk. It’s all the rage it seems. Many women are using breast milk to make their own ice cream, and according to some, their kids love it. What about some cupcakes to go with that ice cream? Well, using breast milk in the cupcake batter is a quite popular topic on mother message boards. You can freeze breast milk to make popsicles in the summer, either as a cool down or as a healthy treat if your child has a sore throat and a cold. It doesn’t end there, either; recipes including breast milk for everything from cheese to yogurt, butter and of course baby food are all over the Internet. It seems that breast milk is a very handy ingredient in the kitchen. 5. Jewellery From the kitchen to the artist’s studio, breast milk can also be a handy tool in jewellery making, if you can get yourself situated in the right niche. Breast milk is 40% composed of a protein called casein, which is helpful in digestion, but also gelatinizes over time. There are now jewellers focusing on young mothers who have found that by solidifying the casein content artificially and creating a design in a mould, the breast milk can become an integral component of a nice piece of jewellery that is meant to commemorate the birth of a child, a truly unique idea to celebrate a new member of the family. 4. Deodorant Rubbing breast milk on your under arms to use as deodorant seems like a much easier idea to get behind than gargling or essentially putting it in your eye. It is not healthy for a woman to wear many types of deodorant while breastfeeding because many of the chemicals, particularly aluminum, can enter the blood stream and get into the breast milk, so many woman have actually taken to applying breast milk to their under arms and claim that it does the job. It may not be a solution for men, or something you want to throw on after a workout at the gym, but on casual days it reportedly does quite nicely. 3. Sexual Lubricant Well, we’ve gone from gargling breast milk as a sore throat remedy to breast milk as an effective contact lens solution and even breast milk as deodorant. And now we have breast milk as sexual lubrication. For postpartum women sex can be a sensitive topic. There is a healing period, there is pain, and there are many hormones that make the idea of sexual intimacy difficult for some. Furthermore, when a woman is ready mentally, her body may not entirely be. As such, there are doctors who recommend using breast milk as a natural lubricant as opposed to over the counter lubricants to aid in sex. The internet community seems divided on the idea, but there are women who claim that it works and has been a benefit in their postpartum sex lives. 2. Cure for Cancer The science behind this claim seems legit. There is a protein in breast milk that apparently kills cancer cells, with breast milk being particularly effective at killing lung and liver cancer cells. In research trials on mice, the drugs derived from breast milk’s anti-cancer properties showed great promise, and as of 2013 both drugs had gone to clinical trials on human beings. Though it may be a while until any such drug is available on the market, the research remains sound. It has also been proven through clinical studies that breast milk can cure encephalitis, a dangerous condition that causes swelling of the brain. 1. Robbery This may be the MOST ingenious use for breast milk yet, though also the most insane. Adding a little levity to this list, we see breast milk as an effective tool in aiding a woman who robbed a pharmacy. Late last year a German woman walked into a pharmacy and started spraying her breast milk at employees in order to distract them so she could rob the place. The woman had bought a breast pump from the pharmacy earlier, and when she approached another cash register, opened her shirt and started spraying breast milk at the cashiers. Shocked patrons could do nothing but stare at the insane scene. After the milk spraying, the woman stumbled around the store towards the exit, pretending to be completely confused, until she left and took off. After the ordeal, pharmacy employees discovered at least 100 Euros missing from the cash register, proving that breast milk can even aid in a successful robbery (not that we’re condoning it of course). |

A man born with TWO joysticks has released a memoir about what it’s like to live with the extremely rare condition. The man, who calls himself DoubleDickDude, came to public attention earlier this year when he led a Q&A session on Reddit about what is medically known as diphallia. He was born with two 10 inch, fully-functional joysticks, and claims to have slept with up to 1,000 men and women. But after achieving notoriety on the online forum, he has now decided to reveal more details of his life in an E-autobiography titled: “Double Header: My Life with Two joysticks”. Speaking to Rolling Stone about why he decided to write the book, the anonymous author said: “Before I was ‘DoubleD***Dude no one cared about what I had to say. “Since then, I’ve been able to help people who felt alone or lost. “I’ve gotten so many messages from people who need encouragement for one thing or another. “With so much negativity in the world, the ability to bring something positive to the table is a great feeling.” In the memoir, he recounts the practicalities of living with a condition so rare that only 1 in 5.5 million men are born with it – and even fewer with joysticks that both function normally. He talks about his childhood, how he lost his virginity, and a “wild streak of sexual adventures fresh out of high school”. Bisexual himself, he also talks about coming to terms with his sexuality and accepting his unusual physical condition. But he insists he does not want fame and fortune, with all profits from the book going to his editor. http://www.360nobs.com/2015/01/man-with-two-joysticks-speaks-about-living-with-extremely-genetic-condition-must-read/

Veronica was shopping Tuesday morning with her son and three nieces in Hayden, Idaho, when the young boy got hold of the small-calibre handgun. It discharged one time, killing her, Kootenai County sheriff’s spokesman Stu Miller said. Miller said the boy, Rutledge’s only child, had been left in a shopping cart with the purse. The 29-year-old Rutledge had a concealed weapons permit. About 7 per cent of adults in Idaho had concealed weapons permits at the end of 2012, according to the Crime Prevention Research Center in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. That ranked Idaho among the top third of states. Kootenai County, which has about 140,000 residents, has issued close to 16,000 concealed weapons permits, Miller said Wednesday. “It’s very commonplace in northern Idaho for folks to have a concealed weapons permit,” Miller said, and most businesses do not prohibit firearms. Guns were a big part of Rutledge’s life. “She was not the least bit irresponsible,” her father-in-law, Terry Rutledge said, in a brief interview with The Associated Press. He complained about people using the incident to attack his daughter-in-law. Terry Rutledge told The Washington Post that Veronica Rutledge and her husband practiced at shooting ranges and each had a concealed weapons permit. He said for Christmas this year, her husband gave her the purse with a special zippered pocket for a concealed weapon.

The Nigeria army has said avoiding collateral damage in the killing of innocent lives has affected its strategy in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists in the north eastern part of the country. Army spokesman, Brigadier General Olajide Laleye, made this known while fielding questions during a press conference at the army headquarters in Abuja. Laleye reacted to a question alleging that some traditional leaders in the north east petitioned the military against excessive use of force in counter terrorism operations because of innocent citizens trapped in captured areas. According to him: “we are not interested in collateral damage, the Nigeria army is very careful about collateral damage, to that extent, our operations are carefully planned to make sure that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.” Laleye explained that: “If certain areas have not been recaptured, it is because the Nigerian army is giving such areas very careful plans, the plans are ongoing, at the right time you will see the outcome.” “And I am very sure that fellow Nigerians will be pleased at the end of such operations that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum, law-abiding Nigerians are rescued from the hands of the insurgents and those places are completely freed from terrorism and insurgency,” he added. Laleye said the recapture of towns which include: Gombi, Hong, Uba, Makera, Mubi, Holma and Vimtim previously held by terrorists, demonstrate the impact of new counter terrorism strategies being used by the army. He noted that the success of military operation is dependent on troops discipline, patriotism and professionalism through enforcement of military regulation. Laleye stated that three ongoing General Court Martial sitting in Abuja, Lagos and Jos are trying erring officers through international best practices in military law. He said the strict enforcement of SService regulations and laws is paying off, explaining that cases of unprofessional conducts have reduced and troops fighting spirit, courage, determination and patriotism have been rekindled. Laleye also spoke on the role of the army in the forth coming general elections in 2015. He said, “I want to assure Nigerians that there is no need to fear, perhaps the 2015 general elections would be the best election in the history of this country.” He added that: “it will be free and fair, and it will be without violence, because all agencies including the Nigerian army, in fact the Nigerian military would do their job in accordance with the law, in accordance with the constitution of this Federal Republic of Nigeria.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=98223 |

1:Isaac and Nneka Moses The compatibility and chemistry between this couple is amazing. Since meeting on the set of a movie in 1996, the couple have been inseparable. They now present, produce and direct their award winning culture and tourism TV show, Goge Africa, on television and cable networks. ‘It is easy because whatever decision we make is in the best interest of our vision and passion. There is no superiority contest among us. He sometimes allows me to make decisions and that really makes me feel good,’ Nneka says. our vision and passion. There is no superiority contest among us. He sometimes allows me to make decisions and that really makes me feel good,’ Nneka says. 2:Patrick and Ireti Doyle ‘I think we are just lucky to have found each other. We have no strategies or secrets in making the marriage work. But God has just been merciful to us,’ said Ireti. Patrick and Ireti have been married for some years now and still have the newness of love blossoming in their union. Their lives revolve around each other, hence, they have been enjoying a union that is devoid of interference of third parties. Despite all the glamour and fame, the couple choose to be down to earth and stay committed to each other. 3:Richard and Jumobi Mofe-Damijo In 2000, RMD married former Africa Independent Television (AIT) presenter, Jumobi Adegbesan, a lady so many Nigerian men desired. A lot has been heard about their marriage having one trouble or the other, based on alleged infidelity on both sides but the love and stability in their marriage seems to be waxing stronger by the day. ‘Keep it out of the news,’ Jumobi once told a reporter when asked the secret of her marital success. It’s been almost 13 years and the couple, blessed with wonderful kids, has probably been through it all. 4:2face and Annie Macauley Since her appearance in the video for 2face’s monster hit ‘African Queen’, this couple have been an item in the media. Although the relationship had been off and on, somehow, these love birds always seem to find their way back together, culminating in their wedding last year. Amidst all the scandals and controversies, the couple has always affirmed that ‘true love is what has kept us together all through the years’. 5:Tunde and Wunmi Obe It will be odd not to mention the duo of Tunde and Wunmi Obe when celebrity couples in Nigeria are being mentioned. They both share a love that sure surpasses their love for music and they have found soul mates in each other. Highly revered for their scandal free life, Wunmi always points at ‘communication and respect for each other’s feelings’ as responsible for their successful marriage. 6:Matthew and Omotola Ekeinde It’s been almost 18 years now since Captain Matthew took the young Omotola to be his wife for better or worse. Fast forward, and they have a blissful marriage and are blessed with four beautiful kids. Considering the controversies and scandals associated with celebrity-life, the Ekeinde’s have managed to stay off scandals. ‘It would have been extremely painful if my husband takes things to the heart, then it would have been a rollercoaster ride for me,’ Omotola said, paying compliment to her husband’s maturity for the success of their marriage. 7:Fela and Tara Durotoye Besides every great man, the saying goes, is an equally successful woman. While she is the leading pioneer make-up artist in Nigeria, he is one of the most sort-after motivational speakers in Africa and a best-selling author. The couple seem to complement each other in every way and they share perhaps one of the best romantic stories. On twitter, Tara never ceases to use the opportunity to share some tips on relationship and marriage principles. ‘We have committed to making each other happy and making it work as we both come from broken homes,’ Tara once wrote. 8:Darey and Deola Art Alade Darey and Deola have shown that age is nothing but a number when love comes into play. The much older Deola is an interior designer with occasional interests in managing Dare’s music career. Well, many didn’t think they would last this long, it’s been almost seven years and the couple are blessed with two wonderful children. ‘You always have to strike a balance because there are times where you are better than the other person but it doesn’t mean that you will always be the better,’ Darey says. 9:Norbert and Gloria Young Nollywood couple Norbert and Gloria Young have been married for about a decade and have since welcomed three beautiful kids to the family. Despite several rumours, the couple has stood the test of time and is still going strong. They make marriage look easy. Soni is a broadcaster and CEO of Inspiration FM, and Betty is a journalist, author and publisher. In a society where the bearing of offsprings erroneously seems to be the paramount objective of marriage, these two have stuck through for over two decades. 12:Maje Ayida and wife toke. The couple are however always quick to express their love for each other at events and on Instagram. The couple, who have a son Joey, pride themselves in always doing things together, including working out. 16:Prince and Mercy Okojie Not many thought their marriage was going to last this long. Despite the rumours that surfaced prior to their union, Prince and Mercy have been able to weather the storm and put the controversies behind them, using every means to assure each other of their love. 17:Zack and Ngozi orji Whoever said that Nollywood marriages do not last long should take a cue from Zack and Ngozi’s marriage. The couple have been together for over two decades and enjoy a successful marriage that is blessed with three children. 18:Teju and Tobi Oyelakin Teju and Tobi may not be the most outgoing pair, but they sure make a great couple. Tobi constantly has these beautiful smile on her face, makes you wonder how much laughter the funny man brings into her life. After dating for a few years, Tobi and Teju finally made their union official in a much talked about wedding in 2012. 19:Olumide and Dakore Akande Since her brief hiatus from the movie world, the proud mother of two is hardly ever seen outside the company of her charming husband Olumide Akande. The two met in the US a couple of years ago and there began the love story that has seen them become the envy of most of their peers. 20:Jay Jay and Nkechi Okocha Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha and his pretty wife Nkechi claim a vital part of their marriage is friendship.
