PoliticsRe: The Downfall of Lagos by starpower(m): 7:08am On Sep 20, 2025
Validated:
Tinubu was a pathetic failure in Lagos. He did NOTHING in 8 years. Let me chronicle it here.
- Roads: Third Mainland to Obalende was to only manageable road then. All other roads in Lagos were in disrepair. Tinubu's excuse was that OBJ seized LG funds. All of mainland were impossible.
He printed billboards like " THIS IS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ROAD, BEAR WITH US" . Yet he has Agberos collecting taxes and levies on the same road. The bad roads created the Okada Business in Lagos as Lagosians started abandoning theis cars for Okada
- Healthcare: All hospitals he met were in disarray. The worse was that the morgue on Marina, near former NITEL Building was always smelling due to decaying corpses.
- Taxes: Before Tinubu, Lagosians use to sekf-assess themselves in PAYE, such that in December, most employees receive tax refunds. Instead, Tinubu made Alpha-Beta the collection officers and truncatecself-assessment process. That is what you have till now. You pay based on an unclear basis.
- Agbero/Touting: Tinubu empowered touts in Lagos. Buba Marwa was proactive in removing them, but Tinubu empowered them for political gains.
- Indebtedness: Lagos became the most indebted sate under Tinubu.
- Insecurity: Tinubu was a disaster. Buba Marwa introduced Operation Sweep, when Tinubu took over robbers took over the streets on the streets. Daily robberies around Akpomgbo is still fresh on people's mind.
- Dirt manageable was zero. Heap of dirts were a daily sight in Lagos, it was then that Cart carriers started.

To his credit though, he remodelled Tinubu Square in Isake-Eko because of Eyo Festival, otherwise his 8 years were nothing to write home about.
FASHOLA re-awekened Lagos' strength and capacity. Then Ambode improved on it, until the current disaster he foisted on Lagos .
He built some crappy state estates, called “low-cost.” Back then, it was ₦3m for a two-bedroom. I remember one in Ibeshe, they used low-quality materials throughout. Cement walls and painting were done the same day, roofing with Summy wood, the only thing done well was the interlocking stones.

To be honest, civil work quality greatly improved under BRF, only for Ambode to want to return us to Tinubu’s infrastructure quality. Sanwo actually tried, just not impressive. The general hospitals I’ve seen or visited, about four of them are actually well maintained. But rural area roads really lacked attention under Sanwo.
For example, there are roads in Ikorodu yet to be completed since Ambode’s time. The contractor, Hitech, was doing rubbish before, but I was impressed they were asked to properly refix their shoddy works.
We need all these Agbero out. I’ve not voted for APC at any level since the 2023 election, in protest.

Growth is the last thing y'all are gonna get as long as APC keeps diverting humongous funds into white elephant projects like Lagos-Calabar, Badagry-Sokoto highways, cash-transfer scheme, etc. Those are Satanic projects designed to funnel Nigeria's patrimony into the foreign accounts of the demonic thieves who own the APC and are holding Nigerians hostage
this the cause of our inflation. They are allocating capital wrongly. Look at roads in our industrial clusters, look at our public schools.

It is advisable to always follow the rules and regulations laid down by the Lagos Building Control Agency(LASBCA) while constructing in Lagos, if the people responsible for this project conformed with LASBCA regulations this ugly incedence would have been averted because LASBCA would have been visiting the site at every stage of the costruction to certify the integrity of what is being done.

I was at a place yesterday and noticed a 3-year-old little girl and her few-years-older sister being served food. I was there to see their grandma. The younger one got drinking water for herself but the elder one didn’t. When the elder sister requested some water, the younger one refused, throwing tantrums. The elder sister cried and went inside to report to someone. Next thing, the little sister intentionally emptied the entire water on the floor and continued eating.

I have a little son, maybe a few months younger, and if he did that I would really pay attention to his temperament early, that not an healthy behavior.
Respect begets respect. I’m even surprised they all moved in and weren’t just visiting. That’s too much responsibility for a young person of such age. People don’t realize how stressful it is to be a provider. For them interrupting the dad in itself, it not respectful. Hopefully they learnt there lessons and amicably learn to dilute tension but that night abey make them move. Hotel dey outside, people they have supported too dey outside make they call them.

Presco can't get a loan at 35%, even little me get loans at 26% to 29%.

Dividend payout ratio of Presco is currently about 60% up from 40%, and the 5 years compounded annualized earning growth rate is over 35%.

The dividend payout ratio of Nahco is 90% and their 5 year compounded annualized earning growth rate is about 40%.

Please let the shareholders breath, dividends don't lie.

We want our companies to keep on paying us our dividends

We can always reinvest our dividends or use it to diversify our investments

Joyful365:
If you build a house, you'd hope for the price to appreciate (land and house). But in the meantime, you'll need rent to maintain the house and also do one or two things. If the rent isn't coming in then the house is useless. You're better off putting your money in a long term government bond where you get at least 17% annually.

If you are a good business person or financially smart, you can deploy that funds into a venture that will get you at least 50% annually (above inflation rate).

Stocks that don't pay good dividend are like houses that don't give you rent or money you put in a savings account in Nigeria. Inflation will wipe off the value of your money. God help you if the company is poorly managed and goes bankrupt. Your capital is gone. Good and consistent dividend paying stocks will ALWAYS appreciate in price over time. Stocks that don't pay dividend or pay poor dividend MAY appreciate. The wise person will go for ALWAYS.
You are right to some extent, but there’s another point of view. If a company like Okomu makes revenue of ₦1,000, with net profit of ₦200 (which is impressive) and free cash flow of ₦150, but is currently trying to increase its palm oil refining capacity by 100%, it will need about ₦600 in capital expenditure over the next three years.

Do you think it’s better they reinvest earnings, or take loans at the current 35% interest rate? If there’s an opportunity to reinvest earnings at impressive rates of return, it’s usually better to let good quality management reinvest in the business. In four years’ time (not even factoring inflation), Okomu could potentially double earnings due to economies of scale from higher refining capacity and upgraded machinery. If the market assigns the right earnings multiple, you could easily have 3x your current purchase price — sometimes even 10x, like Beta Glass for those who bought in 2023.

The key is having a good capital allocator in management, running a business that consistently earns above-market returns on capital employed, and having a long horizon to grow. With that combination, you can have 1000× sef.

For context: I got Presco at an average small unit of ₦42, and Okomu at ₦68. But note this — Presco reinvested more earnings back into the business, while Okomu paid out more dividends. Those dividends have compounded well from 2020 till date. Now imagine if Presco had Okomu’s current earnings multiples — Okomu has gone 15×, while Presco has gone 35×.

So, to correct your assertion: quality stocks compound at a greater rate than real estate. Real estate mostly depreciates, and rental income often just covers repairs. You mainly make capital gains due to inflation. But a stock in a quality business — with high returns on invested capital, great management, strong pricing power, and a durable economic moat — doesn’t need to pay dividends. It’s better for such a company to keep compounding earnings.

I actually learnt this late, but I’m now making better choices after understanding. For example, ₦300k invested in 2020 compounding 35× is now ₦10m. Compare that to a 10% yield dividend stock — ₦30k yearly × 5 years = ₦150k, maybe the stock goes 4× after, so you end up with ₦1.35m (and that’s before deducting 10% withholding tax!).

And we love each other so much ehn. Like she literally dying for me. And she also wants us to get married quick. What do you suggest I do
Better to follow your heart, outcomes can be different. But don't overdo support and emotions change with time, it might be you first. I have no regrets on my decisions, we are happy together ❤️ but I take my personal growth seriously, support when needed. Yes we have a sweet loving child, made we both invested maybe. Life no get manual, once one is prepared emotionally, expectations are less so no much regrets.

Why don't you take your own advice huh?
so if I made a mistake, but circumstances reduces my chances of outright loss, I should also mislead others into gambling. There are situations that can put you in such conditions, you just leave it to chance after noticing your decision are irrational. Emotions are not something to count on, it changes faster than one thinks, see if your honest with thyself, you will know some bad decisions 😉, that the outcome was good, but you can't pretend that type of decisions process is not sustainable. I have a older customers, they are both friends, I swear the outcome was opposite for each. But that because his other friend actually accepted reality like me not to over support, anytime he is in my office, he will emphasize, I shouldn't over support o.

me too. But this girl loves and always waiting to marry me, infact she is not happy we are not married by now although is very young and comes from a poor background I mean poor. I met her a virgin and the love she has for me is mindblowing. That was what made to be spending on her without consideration. What do you think in this case
similar here but I tried to leave early because i notice how fast she was seeking approval, pregnancy entered, we are married but really in economic terms the risk is too much. We love with irrational thinking, reality set in. If you are young let them go and develop themselves, in most situations 💯 if things turns around will they choose one. I see how my wife stare at other guys around me, knew chances are I better be careful with future, it just my observation, i didn't complain on it, she is an adult with are independent choices. I don't over do support right from time. Am stoic in thoughts. My focus is always to be appreciative of myself, take quality time to value myself and I wrote my will early. Better always to find someone who has greatly invested in themselves, as you have, instead of falling for emotionally exploitation.

Where are those always preaching "If a woman is worth it..."?

The fact that it worked out well in your case doesnt make it a norm. In fact, when making sweeping statements, exceptions are noted and they dont invalidate it

When people say "All women/men are this", they sure know not all are like that, but the few exceptions dont make the rule, they are part of the rule

If i would need to search down to a bag of beans to find a non-beans content in it, then its still safe to call the entire bag a bag of beans. The other foreign materials in it dont invalidate the tag
See most just start feeling over special with such sacrifices. Better to start with someone who won't derail one progress. I am currently supporting someone but really it not worth it, it prevents one from knowing there true motives in the relationship. The word is DESIST.
Modified: I wanted to move on, when I noticed it not going to be an healthy situation in the long-term as emotions are weightless, but pregnancy entered(I did DNA o, because people are unpredictable) and got married. But it really stressful on the provider, hard to have healthy relationships like that. You are busy providing for all, they feel you are boring as they rarely know what it cost to provide and be accountable. You end up grooming a monster at your own expense.

I do not understand your comment, but it's more reasonable to judge someone from what they say than to judge from how they look....
What I meant was when people have few options they pretend and a lot of people choose their spouses because they have few options. What we can control is ourselves, by expecting less from relationships, we will be selfish with what we invest in people when we haven't tested their loyalty. The more valuable you become, your options gets better, and you will know what they offer before asking them.
I prefer relationships starting as friendship, when you ask them, you are permitted to be deceived.

From the screenshot, it shows this one is still naive and innocent (not vouching for her tho)... It's understandable if she begs for money, cos she's a student, not all students have legit side hustles...

This girl have potential of becoming a good wife, girls like this can turn 100k capital to 300k in short period.. forget the fact that she said she has nothing else to offer, her honesty alone is an asset, she just needs someone to guide her...

For me, for the fact that she begs from family and friends alone, I can risk it all and marry her and then change her orientation.... Her peers probably have side hustle (olosho), begs from their sugar daddies, or date multiple men to earn a living an live large in school.... For me oo, I still fit risk this kain girl if all is in that SS is true...
better to see how she looks first. People are called intelligent beings, better to not have any expectations.

I don't know the state you are based because I know that in my state business men are already paying taxes. So most of the things in the new tax law are not new. It rather simplifies and makes tax issues less ambiguous.
You will be better off by taking your time to read the new tax law and understand the ones that affect you as a business man.
There are many legal ways to reduce your tax obligations.
yimu, probably they use bank loans, bid contracts or have kids in public schools requesting personal income tax clearance certificates. Most tax payers are in lagos, ogun, delta, rivers and Abuja.

Please please sir, don't use your half-baked story to mislead our youths.

You were an elite kid....the son of Lagos state Governor as at that time that 95% of Nigerians had no TV nor access to electricity.

Your success owe tribute to:

1.) Your wealthy father's foundation
2.) Goodluck Ebele Jonathan that helped you to bounce back after you went bankrupt due to loans resulting from the crude oil price fall
3.) Your passion for entrepreneurship which must not be overlooked

But coming out to churn out these your cocoon stories may end up misleading Nigerian youths instead of encouraging or inspiring them.

For Csake, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote are not supposed to be writing any book about creating wealth from nothing. You guys were born into wealth and you tried in sustaining and expanding the wealth you inherited, but no come de bobo us.

The wealthy Nigerians we should be listening to as inspiration are:

Mr Cosmos Mmaduka owner of Coscharis Motors
Chief Vincent Obianodo owner of Young Shall Grow Motors

and other wealthy Nigerian men and women who came from poor family background and built wealth from ashes shocked
you shouldn't mislead people too, education doesn't stop or confined to classroom alone, many had similar opportunities, see I have hired quite a lot of people. Some people will be successful, though not billionaire status o, but by there work ethics, enterprise and frugality, with limited or non classroom education. The Nigerian youth like me appreciate his memoir, against all adversities and disadvantages, they didn't give up. How God favors them, is left to him.
BusinessRe: How I Dropped Out Of High School And Didn’t Go To University – Femi Otedola by starpower(m): 6:08pm On Aug 19, 2025
ayoncox:
Seems I am like him, same first name. I loved business than classroom, I told myself I want to register my own company by 18 right from age 12. I fumbled a lot in class, which confused my teachers who felt how could I be so intelligent but not doing well in exams. But my parents being civil servants always felt the best thing was school. I went through school but had extra years twice during my undergraduates, I just love business not classrooms even though I read a lot
I did not have the mind to go to the university later after few trials, though I later discovered it was not because I lacked ability. Nobody told me early enough that as a science student, I needed Further Mathematics if I ever wished to study engineering. I loved numbers, yes, but spelling was my weakness. Still, I could read books with strong comprehension, and that became my anchor.

For many of us, the safe refuge was business or programming, fields where skill grows by compounding, just as wealth does. My father accepted my desire to enter business; my mother did not. Yet, when I look back to where I began, I do not feel disappointment. Business, I have learned, demands focus, and to see compounding take root, one must start early. Some men are fortunate because they find good education and capital waiting for them. I was not and so are many of us out there.

But in 2012, with ₦80,000 as my seed money i saved from backing, cement, building blocks my dad sold, I began my business as a part-time hawker of solar products. That little sum has since compounded at nearly 50% when adjusted for inflation. This is no small testimony. It is why I look forward to reading the memoirs of those who walked similar roads. Such knowledge is not for hoarding; though we may carry it to the grave, it burns like a lamp while we live.

In our country, there are many who love education but cannot withstand the classroom, the endless examinations, and the grading system that often fails to measure true worth. Here in Nigeria, nothing is ever made easy.

Now, at thirty-three, I stand with time still on my side, if God, in His mercy, continues to grant me luck.
