I know Preparing for exams can be very demanding.

It is one of the situations every student would want to avoid in life if given a choice.

The level of stress experienced in writing exams always increase during the exams period.

This stress could have a negative impact on both our physical and mental health,

thus reducing our ability to perform well on exam days.



Research has shown that this level of anxiety is as a result of uncertainty from us in terms of our level of preparation.

DEVELOP A STUDY PLAN:



Most of the students don’t plan how they’ll prepare for CITN exam. They just tell themselves that they’ll study as much as possible then hope for the best.

This isn’t a wise approach at all. Preparing for an exam is like taking on an important project.

If I may ask; would you start building a bridge without first coming up with a plan?

Would you just begin construction and “hope for the best”?

I don’t think so...



In a similar way, it’s important to outline, in writing, a strategy for how you’ll get ready for your CITN exams.





HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER AS YOU DEVELOP YOUR PLAN:



• When will I start studying?

• How many hours each day/week will I block out to study?

• Which topics do I need further clarifications on?

• Which assignments will I review?

• How many exams questions will I need to practice in every topic I study?

• How many times will I review My Jotted notes and materials and my Starry Gold Comprehensive Video Lectures?

• What distractions am I likely to face, and how will I overcome them?





With these questions in mind, you will be able to strategize and eliminate every hindering obstacle.

Remember as the saying goes, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.

This will cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. Additionally, it causes higher levels of sugar in the blood.

Within the brain, the hypothalamus sends a signal to the pituitary gland and tells it to release various stress chemicals into the blood stream. This reaches the adrenal cortex in less than three minutes and tells it to produce cortisol - a primary stress hormone.



Stressed has been shown to limit the communication between brain cells.

It is advisable to visit the exam venue at

least a day to the exam day. Why should you do this?

This will help you understand the terrain of the journey, the bus stop, and the navigation.

Trust me, its pretty stressful to start looking for

the venue on the day of the exams. First,

you may have had the experience of asking

someone for direction whom you taught knows the direction to a new location you were looking for only for the person to point you in the wrong direction instead of the person to say

‘I don’t know the location’, but he will rather point

you in any direction that comes to mind. most times,

its the opposite direction to your destination.

So

1. It is advisable to locate the exams venue at least a day to the exams to avoid unnecessary stress.

2. It is advisable to relocate or move closer

to the venue of the exams if you can find a temporary accommodation or simply book a hotel room closer to the exams venue.

#4: DON’T MULTITASK
I know it’s a shocker, are you surprise about this?
We all believe we can multitask and handle more. But it’s not true for most of us.
The truth is that, our brain performs much better when it focuses on one task.
While multitasking, the brain has to stop one process, switch and align to another function, then stop that process to get back to the previous process.
It takes as much as twice the time to complete one task because of all the stopping, switching and aligning.
So, don’t multitask.
When it is time for study, I advise you stay away from TV and other forms of distraction.

2: PLAN & VISUALIZE YOUR DAY AHEAD

Never start your day without knowing and writing down all you want to do and achieve from that day.

Spend a few minutes in the night on planning your next day. What tasks you want to complete and which order you want to complete them – make a plan. Visualize your day.



You can save an hour or so when it comes to the execution part. Since your mind is already tuned in to those tasks, you’ll be able to complete them in less time than it usually takes.



You’ll also have less chaos or spend less time thinking about what to do next.



And you’ll be more relaxed, alert, and responsive.



If it’s not possible to do it in the night, you can do it as the first thing in the morning. Plan your day and visualize it.







3: TAKE REGULAR BREAKS

Working non-stop and burning midnight oil are not the best productive habits.

Our body works better when it gets regular rest. It’s hardwired to pulse and performs best when you renew the energy at regular intervals.

So, work for 25 minutes, take a 5 minutes break or 50 minutes and take 10 minutes break.

Though, sometimes it depends on the nature of your job.



• Stretch your legs.

• Take a walk.

• Drink some water.

• Talk to your colleague.

• Look at something other than your screen, or do anything you want.



Take a break. You’ll be able to complete a lot with those breaks then without them.



In summary, time management is critical for our ICAN exam success.

Sometimes you feel like you have an infinite amount of time,
but when you check your calendar, you noticed how ICAN exam is fast approaching.

The reason you must manage your time this exam period is
so that you can be mentally and emotional organized and prepared.

These are the 4 tips to manage your study time;

1: SET TIME LIMITS
Have you heard of Parkinson’s Law?
According to it, “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”
Have you noticed that when you have 2 or more task to complete, if you don’t set time limit for all the task, the first task can even take the whole day….. hope you can relate?
But, it all changes when you set specific time limits for each task.

So for your study time, set time limit.
You can use the countdown timer on your mobile phone to time yourself.
You’ll be amazed how far you will cover a lot of topics within your set time.

Excuses are a comfort zone where we find all the reason to justify our actions.
This reminds me of the story of a man who was born disabled, His father prevented him from attending school because he believed his Son will not be able to cope with school.

Devastating! Isn't it?
In his words “It was tough, miserable and traumatic.
I was the only deformed child in a family of eight children. This was compounded by the excesses of some of my peers who made mockery of my situation. As a child, I loved playing football but each time I scored a goal, the glory was trivialized under the claim that I didn’t get a close tackle because of the wooden support I was moving with. Many times I went into my room and wept profusely, asking God why he had to create me with such deformity. I finally rounded off my secondary education with a good grade but my father rejected
my request for a university education. He was worried that no one would care for me if I travelled outside their reach. In pains, I wrote a four page emotional letter to an uncle, telling him of my burning desire to further my education. When my uncle saw my sentence construction, syntax and general composition, he was moved. Before I knew it, he drove down from the university where he works to my house, packed up all my belongings and took me to Lagos. I got admission to the department of Philosophy, in the university where he work and in no time, I graduated as the
best student of the department.”

Today, he is a lecturer at that same University.
Statistics have shown that 90% of disabled people in Africa either go back to their village or turn a complete beggar on wheel chair.
But, he said "I realized I had not much physical strength as others did; so, I had to develop my intellectual power.
He was able to achieve his dream of becoming a lecturer and in the same condition which has not changed up to this moment.
It is often said that where there is a will, there is a way. Once you are determined to do anything worthwhile, you will definitely succeed no matter the encumbrances you may face.
