khanye:Yeah, this was a very shrewd buy on our side. I'm beginning to have some respect for Sandro Rossell (considering some of the recent disatrous transfers - Chygrynsky, Caceres, Hleb & of cos Ibra). I'm sure Afellay will fit right in and give us some more depth. I remember people saying we had a small squad at the start of this season, but after seeing he Barca B team play a few games, I'm quite confident we have the required depth for 3 competitions: Batra, Fontas & Muniesa are able replacements in defence (although I'm praying G. Milito recovers soon). Thiago is an absolute gem in MF, with JDS, Romeu also looking good. Nolito, Jeffren & Vasquez are ready to step into the attack. Talking about Afellay, he is young, skilful & shoos from distance (something we're not good at). Mwhile in the unlikely event he's a dud, the 3m transfer fee can be recouped relatively easily. |
I've never really liked Keita. Every match he plays in - he just makes he game drab. Toure was a rock in MF and is surprisingly good going forward too. I sill wish we didn't sell him. As for Bojan, I don't really understand - I guess he's so bad this season cos Pep hardly gave him a chance over the last 2 years, mwhile in Rijkaard's last season, he was already becoming something of a regular. I sill see a lot of potential in Bojan & I'll like to see Pep play him in a match where all the support is available (ie, with the full creative force of Xavi, Iniesta, Messi available). Playing Bojan & Keita in he same match just won't work because Bojan is almost a traditional no 9 (though he lacks the physique), while Keita will never break down any defence. IMO Bilbao is no the kinda team to experiment against. These guys are tough enough in the league & hey're always good in the cup. Positively, we didn't concede and I guess it's a good time to have a reality check too, before the boys get carried away with scoring 5-a-game. Maybe that's why Pep even made the changes sef - to ensure the players keep their feet on the ground. |
medjai:I agree that we can get the job done at San Mames. My worry is the toll that will take on the team. We play Levante at home on 2nd January (should be an easy one), then go to Bilbao mid-week (difficult), then go to Riazor on Sunday (difficult). I feel Pep should have slowed things down once we went 4-1 up against Espanyol (they were truly demoralized by then) & started to focus on today's match. We should have gone for the win today in order to use the B team for the 2nd leg. Anyways, good thing it wasn't a` worse result (score draw or a home loss) |
chic2pimp:Lol! Will do. Milan is actually my 2nd team too, |
Sometimes I dont understand Pep! He was in some strange experimenting mood today. Bilbao is always a tricky customer & I dont know why he didnt start with the full team. He really should have rested Messi after we went 4-1 up against Espanyol on Saturday. He keeps Messi on in every match when we're flogging opponents (even brought him in for the meaningless match against Rubin Kazan) & now when we really needed him, he was kept on the bench. Mwhile, Keita is by some distance the worst Barca player. I've always felt that he & not Toure should have been sold in the summer. He has zero creativity so is of no value in attacking MF & doesn't track back well enough to help the defence. I told a friend immediately that we wont create much with Keita in MF. Still talking about Pep's experiment, I'm sure Pep knows already that Iniesta is far more dangerous in MF, not left wing. Iniesta started this season on the left wing & that was when we struggled to score. As soon as Iniesta moved to MF & attack became Messi/Villa/Pedro. Why play Iniesta on the wing in this match? As for Bojan, he just wasn't in this match, although asking him to play upfront alone was such a big ask. Unfortunately, he also flapped the few chances he got. He's one for the future, but shouldn't have started this match. The positive part though is I was happy to see Pinto get a run-out. Masch was really impressive - the guy is soo mobile! I'll like to see him play far more often cos IMO he's better that Busquests. I have a feeling Pep was a bit over-confident, thinking that any line-up he fields will win the match, especially after the B team won the last round in the Cup & also beat Kazan. I'm hopeful that we can get at least a score draw in Bilbao, but it would have been nice to wrap this up now & focus on the league in the 1st few weeks of January, especially since we go to Deportivo just days after the trip to Bilbao. |
WoW! I just discovered this thread! Didn't know there were so many of us Barca fans in naija, whenever I start to discuss football with most peeps & they discover I'm such a big footie fan, they ask what club I support & when I say Barca, they go "yeah, everyone likes to watch Barca, but what club do you support"? Of cos, they expect that I support some premiership club or the other (typical naija bandwagon), but in my family, we all support "strange" clubs (Barca, AC Milan, Inter-yes Inter!) Good to see some fellow Barca fans here & you'll be seeing me more often! |
I've never seen checkpoints in any other country. What peculiar crime problems do we have in Nigeria. Best thing is to not have them at all. That way, if you're driving and you see a checkpoint far off, you can already tell that it can only be armed robbers, not like now that a checkpoint could be: 1) Police collecting bribes 2) Armed robbers robbing 3) Ritualists searching 4) A police checkpoint about to be run over by a trailer. When there's a specific and credible intelligence, a checkpoint could then be mounted temporarily. I dont have the stats, but I'm sure these police checkpoints do far more harm than good. |
rasputinn:That's a very valid point. No one has actually come out to talk about the safety or otherwise of these machines. I've heard some manufacturers claim that since these things are millimeter waves & not x-rays, then they're safe. I don't believe it sha. In 10 or 20 yrs, some wiz kid will discover that frequent fliers tend to have some cancer or d other & find out that it's because of these machines. The amazing part of it all is: 1. This machine may not have even caught Abdulmutallab 2. No one is talking about the negligent failure of the US intelligence system, which caused all this All they're focusing on is to bring these machines to full use (they've only been optional in the few airports where deployed) and to label "innocent" Nigeria as a country with terrorist links |
mobuch:Pls quit being an idiot. I made a reasonable post, jeje stating my opinion without criticizing other peoples' opinions & you come here, talking rubbish. Jeez, the internet sure gives morons a chance to talk to anybody!!! fyi, I am an active sports player & I'll gladly display my body IN PRIVATE, to whom I choose to display it to, not to some gay airport security man named mobuch , then again, don;t know why I'm bothering with a low-life like u. Signing off |
mobuch:I guess u like people seeing images of ur naked body. Good for u then, u can save the airport security some stress - just appear at d airport in ur birthday suit |
Since Nigeria is now on the list of "countries of interest", of course it will be compulsory for all Nigerians to pass through these machines. I don't like it (and I don't think it adds much to protect flights from the Mutallabs of this world), but I'll comfort myself knowing that whoever is manning the machine will see hundreds of body images everyday, so wont be likely to remember mine after a few seconds, |
This is typical African stupidity! We just never learn as a people. You make money in Africa, then you go and use it to sponsor a team in UK! This isnt too far off the scale from our klepto-leaders who steal from the treasury & compound things by spending/stashing the money offshore. How many companies in UK or elsewhere in the developed world would do the same? It's not even like Glo has a market over there. Even though the deal with the Nigerian FA went sour (due to the thieves in charge of naija football), but really Glo could still contribute to sports (or any other endeavour) in naija in a different way with this money. The benefits of the deal are little compared to the amount. Compared this to the South African league where Ajax Cape Town is a feeder club for Ajax FC - the players have the same kind of opportunities to Ajax FC Glo claims Nigerians/Ghanaians/Beninoise will soon have to ManU, but no one in SA is sending 5m GBP a year to Holland. |
na2dy, y me, et all, you guys are just hilarious!!! The Sly Guy Pls don't hate on me cos I've given a babe my blessings to pour hot water on you. I was just hoiong she could make you less ugly, perhaps you'll be able to meet a fine babe that you wont need to cheat on Agnesqueen:Babe, take it easy. U sound like a fussy little thing. After all the serious posts, we all need a little diversion from these guys although you could ask why they aren't in the comedy section |
Rosabelle:Loool!!! ![]() |
Fair enough Rosabelle. You have my blessing to pour hot water on the chap who posted this: The Sly: |
Rosabelle:Yeah, but the premise of the thread is faulty because adultery is not unique to Nigerian married men only. Nigerian single women also do it (with married men), Nigerian married women also do it, married men and women of other nationalities also do it, so why single out only Nigerian married men? And like I posted earlier, there are a number of us Nigerian married men who are faithful to our wives anyway. Until someone can come out with a reliable statistic, you girls are just blowing a lot of hot air. And my point in my last post is that a lot of people are just hypocrites. They're just as bad as the same people they're criticizing. I don't support the adulterers but I also don't dig all this self-righteousness you girls are putting up here. |
I wonder why there's no link on the current Virgin Nigeria website to Nigerian Eagle. They should make a clean break. Na wa for Nigerians sha! I admit sha, the logo is very ugly and the name uninspiring and ridiculously long!!! Other than that, I wish them all the best and hope that they can revover from the heavy financial burden that Virgin placed on them, what with the N1b per annum just to use the Virgin name, along with the costs of "technical assistance". Virgin was just swavving Virgin Nigeria, which is what foreigners have always done to naija since they came here to colonize our great grandfathers. Abeg, Aero and Arik have no foreign name, yet they're running good services, so Nigerian Eagle Airline, carry go!!! |
Loooool!!! |
Vampire_01:Yes they all face these problems, but they manage the problems in different ways. Also, some of the smaller airlines face issues of low capitalization, one-man-company syndrome, inability to attract the industry's best hands, etc. At the end of the day, the top 3 are clearly above the others and I repeat my assertion that Aero is the best local airline by a mile. If you've flown Aero recently, you'll even realize that these days, Aero tries to be on time all the time. Their 07:00 flight will depart at the exact time and if they're 10 mins late, they'll almost kill you with apologies. Even the foreign airlines aren't that courteous. |
Alright, let's shift this another gear: How about fornication? Adultery is wrong, but so is fornication (ie having sex outside of marriage, whether you're single or in a committed relationship). So how many of you saintly ladies can honestly say you've never slept with a man? You can't pick on one and accept the other. Let Not like I support the men who cheat on their wives, but come on! All these girls come here and make a lot of noise as through they were clean themselves!!! |
@poster don't mind all these people yapping you abeg. If they could reverse the clock, they would! I'm married, my wife and I were both virgins when we got married and no one had to teach us. We read books on sex b4 our marriage and we both learned about how to give ourselves to each other emotionally and physically. The only tough part was the blood on the 1st night, but u'll soon overcome that. Our sex is great and neither of us regrets our decision. |
Some ladies in earlier posts said that they need to see a married Nigerian man who doesn't cheat on his wife. Well, I'm here, defending those of us naija men who don't cheat on our wives! Are u people happy now? Yes, we exist and you probably don't meet many of us cos we aren't clubbing with you (or your friends) or visiting you on campus. That doesn't mean we don't exist!!! |
I've flown Aero regularly for the last 8 years. And I mean very regularly. Of cos they're not perfect, but they're the best local airline by a mile. Arik is good too and Virgin Nigeria (NEA) comes a distant 3rd. I don't bother with the others, so can't judge. |
In all honesty, women don't help matters too. A lot of young girls (say in their uni days) will sleep with a man cos he can buy them all sorts of stuff and they feel on top of d world. They then get married and forget that what goes around comes around. Fact is naijas love to feel sharp and feel we can game any system including marriage. And I'm talking of both men & women, single & married. |
I am a married man, married for over 2 years to a woman who was beautiful and sexy b4 marriage & still beautiful & sexy after giving birth. I do not cheat on her - I love and respect her too much. Temptations come though - I've met many chicks who wouldn't mind dating me if I was interested (some even say I'm boring cos I no be playa!). @poster: It's not a naija thing. Immorality is everywhere. U prob conclude on naija men cos they're within ur sphere of influence, more so than other nationalities. Trust me it's an individual thing - people cheat all the time: men and women of all creed, colour, tribes, nationalities, etc. I was in the north once and even those hijab wearing hausa women were getting down with young men when heir husbands travelled. |
Sorry, I meant how come you're in Uk & passport is in naija? |
It's actually illegal for your passport to "travel" without you. How come your passport is in UK & you are in naija? Anyhow, just be careful sha, u can get in trouble in caught (especially by Uk authorities, no wahala with naija authorities) |
Do u guys know & understand the Nigerian tax laws at all? U can't get a tax clearance certificate unless u've actually paid the tax. Viviko couldn't have got Yettidear a genuine & legally valid tax clearance without her mum's tax payment details. This thing smells of illegality whichever way I look at it, unless there's something new I don't know. . . Busy_body:LOL! What I can I say? Peeps just didnt seem to realize that the docs are fake & were talking about waiting for Vikiviko's side of the story, blah, blah, please advice me,i think we should just conclude that the doc is fake, because the way vikiviki is going about it shows withoout any doubt that it is.As I've said before, I think u need some time to gather ur thoughts & evaluate ur options. Like some other pple have said, u can wait till next yr & also check schools in other countries (Canada, US, etc). I still think UK is worth a 2nd try next yr (if u're really keen on it) since they didnt give u a ban this time. However, u're prob better of applying afresh to other countries & trying for a UK visit visa when u have another 1st world country visa on ur passport. |
Yettidear I'll say u shd wait till next yr, apply early (before the rush, when the ECOs' eyes become red) & ensure u have all ur docs in place. Who knows, u migh even be earning so much ny then that u'll be sponsoring urself. These things happen. I have been refused a couple of visas myself & I know how I felt those times. Mine were visit visas, so not this bad - all I had to do was choose where else to go spend my money & I even sent a mail to the refusing embassies letting them know that I was goin to spend money in their countries & that they were missing out on tourism revenue. In ur case, I can imagine after searching schools, paying, etc. Pele sha. Just think everything thro, evaluate ur options, pray & make ur decision, |
Viviko & all Do u guys know & understand the Nigerian tax laws at all? U cant get a tax clearance certificate unless u've actually paid the tax. Viviko couldn't have got Yettidear a genuine & legally valid tax clearance without her mum's tax payment details. This thing smells of illegality whichever way I look at it, unless there's something new I don't know. Why not get the tax exemption from Lagos State instead? It costs 25k & is a legal document. @Yettydear Since u work, I'll advice u to continue working, look for opportunities to make life better for yourself & prepare adequately (and without any pressure) for ur masters next yr Sept. U'll be amazed at how much u can accomplish in naija. I hope u didnt resign ur job in a hurry sha. |
yettidear:Since ur school gave u an extension, it should be possible to re-apply with a proper tax clearance cert (re-application is faster than appeal). I have a friend who was refused 3 wks ago (Thurs 11th Sept), re-applied Mon 15th Sept and got his visa by Fri 19th Sept. Nothing is impossible and in ur case, ur school has given u till end of the month. However, remember that even though the school has no issues with u resuming end Oct, u'll prob have to play catch-up with ur school mates by d time u resume. BTW what do u do in Nigeria? Work? I'm asking so I can advice u with a way forward, should u choose not to re-apply, |
LondonCool:Thanks mate. I'll have to postpone my trip yet again & hope they agree to restarting the process. I'll call the airline to reschedule my flight (yet again) to maybe early next yr, to give enuff time to sort this out. @yettidear I can imagine how u feel. Pele! Look at the positives: u didnt get slammed with a ban; you might just come across some wonderful opportunities u didnt expect to find in naija, |

I saw it already and deemed it too 'ridiculous' to reply to.
