This is exactly what I did over the last 2 days now, and guess what, she has been stalking me with calls. I only call her when there is something important to discuss, but calls based on, i miss u and all of that nor even dey again, the moment she noticed I have drifted from showing affection over calls, she started bombarding me with calls complaining that I dont call her.
My dear, be very careful with the advice you heed to online. It can make or mar your home. Most people telling you to ignore her are not even married and do not know the level of commitment that marriage requires.
If your home breaks today, they won't be there to help you cope.
Choose a suitable time with your wife, call her and talk about all these. Try to be calm and polite, do not judge or accuse her. Let her know your fears and how her actions are making you uncomfortable.

If after talking to her, she is still stubborn and not willing to change, you can just stay back in Nigeria and let her know that it was her attitude that made you take such decision.

Good morning my people

Please what's the least amount of money I should have in my account if I'm planning to invite someone to the UK?

If you have successfully invited anyone, abeg let's connect so you can put me through. I have tried watching a lot of YouTube videos and I'm hearing stuffs like "6 months bank statement" "6 months pay slips"
How true?
I need first hand experience

I don't think you need to change your accent. However you need to understand that Nigerian English is a lot different from British English, from phrasing down to pronounciations.

i.e.
Nigerians: "They are telling me I did well!"
British: "They've said I did well"

or
Nigerians: "I have spent years doing retail banking in Nigeria"
British: "In Nigeria, I spent several years working in retail banking"

Thos are the areas of speech you need to be mindful of when trying to communicate. We Nigerians tend to talk fast as well so that is another area to focus on if you want to be understood by your colleagues.
Nigerians talk fast? cheesy
To me o, I think it is the oyibos that rap when they talk grin

So sorry, I know the feeling! Accomodation is now kryptonite. I feel there should be a law to limit number of applicants per advert. Should be illegal for landlords to be using would be tenants to catch cruise. It should be basic info...where you work, income level, background check etc. For like maximum 5 ppl. Then you proceed with your candidate. If person falls through, go with backup option. Not dozens of application per house. Just compare with the ease of paying for house you like on the spot in Naija. First come first serve!
No mind them. There was this house that we were the first to view. We were so positive about it because we met all the criteria but the agency said they have to wait for more applications before sending it over to the landlord to decide. It took them about one week to gather applications and we were not picked in the end. E pain me angry
They called afterwards to say that the person chosen by the landlord is no longer interested and asked if we still want the place. We said yes! Our hopes came alive again but guess what? They had to go gather other applications again to submit to the landlord for the second time and we were disappointed again.
The one we finally got, we were the first to view the house and the agency did not waste time in pushing our application to the landlord. That same day, he approved it and that's it.

Spot on!
I just laughed when I saw his comment and "aspire to perspire" reply. This country is going through a serious housing crisis ATM! I went through everything you did...but for 2 months. Used all the sites possible plus word-of-mouth. It was so depressing. Ontop the expensive rent that you're willing to pay...no one was willing to accept. Some landlords/agents even rejected upfront rent payment and opt for others applying.

Imagine the pain of going for viewing, doing paperwork etc. And then being told someone else has been given the place. Same outcome....over and over and over again. Accomodation is more rare than gold in the UK today! Thank God the word-of-mouth search finally paid off and it came at the nick of time. Bypassed all the rubbish process and got my keys same day. Such a huge relief!
I was almost depressed. Filling different application forms like you are looking for a job and being told off at the end of the day. Sometimes you go for a viewing and meet like 10 other people viewing same apartment. Before you get home and submit your application, boom the house is taken.
Mind you, me and my husband work full time, non smokers, no pets, no children cheesy. I thought these would help but for where? angry

Hello People, what a job Yall have done here. It feels so good to read about everyone's experiences. I will be very happy to get your inputs in my situation.

This November, I'll be getting married to my fiance who's a nurse in the Uk, and hopefully join her by January. We want to have just the traditional and court wedding at this time. We'd like the court wedding to take place in Asaba, but I saw on the ministry of interior's website that only marriages conducted at the Federal Marriage Registries are recognized and legal.

Asaba doesn't have a Federal Marriage Registry, does this mean that if I have my wedding in Asaba, the UK embassy will not recognize our marriage as legal?

I saw there's an option to get married at a local marriage registry and afterwards, request for a federal marriage certificate via the online portal. I would like to know if anyone has ever done this and how fast is the process of getting the certificate as I wouldn't want unnecessary delays.

Finally, I would like to know what would be considered a strong proof of relationship by the UK Embassy, or would federal marriage certificate and pictures suffice?

Thank you all very much for your kind replies.
For my husband, we used just our court marriage certificate and wedding pictures (traditional and white) as evidence.

It doesn't matter.

The opposition will always joke about irrelevant things online while they cry behind their keyboards.

This is a true story.

I almost missed my flight in June when I went to pick up a man I was to travel with.

When the driver drove to his residence, the man was complaining of a headache.

We had to divert to a pharmacy to get his B.P drugs that morning. This was the morning after APC's Presidential Primaries.

Tinubu was not declared winner yet but the amount of aspirants who stepped down to support him made the man's hypertension terrible. It was later that day that I realized that the man was sick just because Tinubu won.

He's from a particular part of the country. That's how much Tinubu is hated there and I know from experience that everyone who jokes about his little moves cry inside that the man keeps going despite unprecedented envy, hatred and adversity.

I was in your exact position last year and I took the Electric cos "what's the alternative? Keep searching with no end in sight?". True, the bills were higher: when gas folks were doing £80, I was doing about £240 so 3 times more. Thankfully, I could afford it. I also had to make changes in the way I used my heating to reduce the bills. I have a feeling if I had reduced my Thermostat to 19°c, I may have gone well below £200.

Funny story: my first month, I had my heater on 24/7 with Thermostat at about 30°c, my bill was about £900 for a month. Electric heating doesn't forgive such carelessness.

So, yes, electric is more expensive. Should you take it? it's up to you to decide.
Thank you very much for your response
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Stenvee: 8:34am On Sep 15, 2022
TheGuyFromHR:
Only you can decide that, taking into consideration the effort and time you expended in securing the place you've got now, the tight housing market and your pocket.
Electric heating costs more than gas, that is true. In Aberdeen back then, I think the rough estimate was anything from 2 and half times to 3 times more expensive (although energy was way cheaper then of course). Do some research online and get an idea of what the differential is like now. I think there are some time of use tariffs such as Economy 10 and all that that are supposed to ease wet heating costs a little, not sure if those would be obtainable where you are, you'd have to check with the supplier(s).
Thank you very much

Good morning my people. I have been looking for an apartment for a while now and I just managed to get accepted by a landlord (the competition is real). But my issue now is that the house fully runs on electric. I have heard so much about how electric is way costlier than gas. Right now, I don't know if I should just go ahead with it considering the fact that it is very difficult to secure an accommodation now or wait for an apartment that uses gas.

Is gas worth the wait?
Is electric as bad as people make it sound?
Please I need your suggestions
