Hello everyone been away for a while.
Arrived maryland safely via british airways.
I sat at the exit door for both the lagos to London and London to baltimore booked my seats online.
My fit to fly was never asked for (thanks to my wide bump)had enough leg room, slept through out my flight except when I had to use the bathroom but thanks to my TED stockings had no worries. Stopped the plenty water drinking when I started peeling every 15 mins. Didn't use the wheelchair cos my hubby felt I would draw unnecessary attention to myself(1st time traveling to the USA).except for MMH british airways time of landing was good cos the airports were empty.(LHR and BWI)
POE was BWI all blacks on my flight were about 9
Me:Good morning
cbp: good morning(a black American about 35yrs )
Passport and landing card
Me:handed it over to him
CBP:purpose of visit?
Me: have my baby
Cbp: 4 right fingers on the green light
Types and types
cBP: i see your birthday is tomorrow,I should stamp you in.
Me:laughs
Cbp:smiles
Cbp: you need to fill a form on the other end stating how much you're with
Me: thank you, he typed the total
At I think

Congrats drafrica on your succesful poe experience. I think BWI is not a bad poe afterall

Hi NLders,

Please I need an urgent response to this, My doctor wants to send me my Appointment letter but is asking what should be contained in the letter, please apart from appointment date, what else should it contain or what should be stated. Thanks

He should state that he is responsible for your care in the US till you deliver and post partum care if its part of the bargain. He should also include his phone number incase there is need to contact him.

[quote author=demiiii post=32905996]Hello house,
I have been to the port health authority at mm1 but was asked to go to their head office at toll gate and later asked to go back to mm1. am tired of d back and

To answer your questions, fit to fly should be collected from the hospital you've been going for ante natal care. It should be collected like 48 hrs before you departure. It should also include your LMP and EDD.

You can take up to 10000usd but will have to declare it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, but l think it has to do with destination as well. JFK is the cheapest have seen so far. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get local flight from New York to the preferred final destination.

drafrican:
@ stinux
Here's how to get a very good rate
1) use British airways desktop site(shows a wider range of dates)
2)you will see quotes of dates before tax
The range looks like this: $384,$333,$214,$213
3) your target is to pick a date with both inbound and outbound for about $214
4) you may have to adjust your dates
For I.e I got a quote for $1173 but tonight I adjusted my return date by a week and ended up with a quote of $1043
5) British airways exchange rate is 201 but GTB is 199
Sadly it's over 200k but that's cos of the dollar rate if it was 189 the ticket wlike have been under two hundred thousand
Hope u get a $1000 ticket which is a very fair deal tried other airlines they are all at least $1400
If anyone got it cheaper lets know
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by stinux(f): 6:49pm On Mar 12, 2015
@drafrican, were u able to do this from BA website or wakanow?

drafrican:
If your an April bound mum and you want to go with British airways if u pick a date around 22april your ticket will be 1170 USD if it's earlier than that about 1400/1600 USD.
Hope it helps someone

Please I need the contact of a cheap hospital or physician in Baltimore maryland.
Thanks
Pls its urgent
Thanks

Lots of info have been posted here before on MD. It is generally expensive but below is the quote from people here that have noted as am also considering Maryland.

Yes Maryland/DC/VA is expensive.
You should prob have at least 10k but could be more.
I think the price you got for Shady Grove + Dr is good if it is 10k total

Here are 3 options which are a bit cheaper than the typical DMV prices but still expensive compared to ATL/TX/Chicago popularly used my Nairaland mamas.

These are estimates based on standard stay in hospital

Virginia Hospital Center. I think they offer a small discount. Call and ask
V Delivery: 4400
CS: 6400
Epidural: 1200
C section anaesthetic: 850
Dr Fee - Dr Tchabo (renowned Cameroonian Dr) - discounted self pay rate - 3000 for V, 3300 for CS

Ann Arundel Medical Center. They offer 2% discount lol
V Delivery: 5617
CS: 7787
Baby Acc Fee: 2000
Anesthesia: 1000 (estimate)
Dr Rogers: discounted self pay rate 3000 (this is the lowest priced OB that delivers there. You can find his contact on their site)

Inova Alexandria - Thanks @aye88 for the recommendation
This is the only hospital I know in DMV that offers significant discount for Self Pay.
Prices below are after discount

V Delivery: 3701.43
CS: 5292.54
Baby: 1290.06
Dr Ansera: 3000

I also heard PG Hospital is relatively cheap but it depends on how picky you are in terms of service and environment. The reviews are not great.

Hello o, I'm presently in Maryland. For those considering Maryland or Virginia, I got some hospitals and tort I should share with the house.
1. Waldof women's care: they are a group of female ob/gyn. They are ranked very high arnd Waldof Maryland. Their fee is 2500 for self pay patients and they can also give you a 70percent giftcard off your latest. They use civista medical center. As for the hospital I called to get an estimate but they said they can't give an estimate per say as ur delivery determine what you will be charged.

2. Also Dr Rogers. His fee is 3000 for self pay patients. He uses Anna rundel hospital. Very good doctor too.

3. Dr ansera. His fee for self pay is 3000. He uses Inova alexandria hospital. The hospital fee for virginal birth is 5500 and they give a 46percent discount for self pay patients. Two days stay. I hope this help someone

Thanks @ Aye88 for your useful and vital information. I have been a silent follower of this forum for a long time now. I would not ming having my baby in Maryland as well beacause that is where l have a relative. So it would be appreciated if you could share other affordable hospitals you come across as you continue in your search. God bless you and will shall all carry our bundle of joy at the end of it all. I already tried to contact you. If you dont mind my email id is stinux2005@yahoo.com.
