The lone road to the park...

After eating we zoomed off to the Park range to see the beasts of the wild...on our way to the range we noticed a sign post which clearly read "boundary'.When we asked the ranger with us the essence of the sign post,he told us about the activities of poachers in the park range and that anybody that goes beyond that boundary spot without a permit will be arrested and prosecuted if found guilty of poaching. An 90-year-old woman from Illinois who thought she had won $41.8m (£27.6m) on a video penny slot machine, has been denied the bonus after losing a court case. Grandmother Pauline McKee was playing the Miss Kitty game at a casino when she won 185 credits, or $1.85. But a message appeared on screen saying she had also won a bonus worth $41,797,550.16. The casino refused to pay out, saying the award was a computer glitch. Ms McKee, who has 13 grandchildren, sued the casino but the Iowa Supreme Court eventually threw out her case. "I had my doubts from the start, because that's a lot of money for a penny machine," she told the Chicago Tribune. "I was hoping to help my children out financially, but it wasn't meant to be." 'Malfunction' The casino argued that the on-screen rules clearly indicated that "malfunction voids all pays and plays". At the time of the dispute, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) secured the machine and carried out an investigation, sending the hardware and software to an independent testing laboratory. The investigators found that the software was programmed to allow a bonus of up to $10,000, but they couldn't work out how the multi-million bonus message had occurred. The machine's maker, Aristocrat Technologies, said it had been aware of this type of error in the display and suggested "component degradation over time may increase the susceptibility to this rare occurrence". 'Not valid' The company had alerted casinos to the glitch in 2010 and recommended that they disable the bonus facility as a precautionary measure. The casino evidently had not done this. The IRGC concluded that the bonus display was "not valid" and that "the slot machine game malfunctioned." Ms McKee sued the casino in 2012 claiming breach of contract and consumer fraud. The court unanimously sided with the casino in 2013, but the case dragged on when Ms McKee's lawyers argued that the IRGC had no jurisdiction in disputes between casinos and their patrons. They also questioned whether the machine had really "malfunctioned", as the IRGC had concluded, and whether she had really entered into a contract when playing the game. There have been similar cases in the US involving erroneous bonus displays. In 2009, a player "won" a bonus of $1m that had appeared on screen, only for a Mississippi court to throw out the claim. In this case, the game rules limited payouts to $8,000. The doughty Ms McKee saw her case finally rejected by the Iowa Supreme Court on 24 April. Source:http://www.bbc.com/news/business-32479759 |

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has withdrawn the suit he filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the moves by the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the state House of Assembly to remove him from office. Meanwhile, a similar suit filed by his seven supporters, who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state House of Assembly, is still pending before Justice Evoh Chukwu of the same Federal High Court in Abuja. Justice Chukwu, who had on April 23, refused to grant an ex parte application for an interim injunction restraining the 19 lawmakers from going ahead with the impeachment process, had slated May 4 for hearing in the said suit. Justice Mohammed on Wednesday struck out the suit filed by Fayose and three others after their counsel, Mr. Adeola Adedipe, informed the court that he had filed a notice of discontinuance of the suit on behalf of his clients. The plaintiffs in the suit are Dele Olugbemi (the Peoples Democratic Party factional speaker); the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Kolapo Olusola. Apart from Omirin, other defendants in the suit are the Inspector General of Police, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola. Both the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief Judge of Ekiti State did not send lawyers to represent them in court during the pendency of the suit. Justice Mohammed had on April 16, 2015, adjourned till Wednesday to enable the embattled Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, Omirin, to show cause why the application for an interim injunction halting the impeachment process should not be granted. Fayose and other plaintiffs had filed the suit to set aside the impeachment notice served on him and the entire steps taken by the APC lawmakers with regard to the moves to remove him from office. But in a dramatic twist, the plaintiffs’ counsel, Adedipe, appeared in court on Wednesday to apply for the discontinuation of the case. Adedipe told Justice Mohammed, “On behalf of the plaintiffs, we want to inform the noble court that pursuant to Order 2 Rule 2(1) of the rules of this court, we filed a notice of discontinuance on April 24, 2015 and we urge the court to strike out this suit in its entirety.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/fayose-others-withdraw-anti-impeachment-suit/
