The Almajiris in Nigeria have come out to thank Goodluck Jonathan for being the only person to remember them. The Ex-commissioner of Information, Chief Edwin Clark has lauded President Jonathan with incessant adulation as he predicted a bright and rewarding future for the almajiris in Nigeria. Daily Trust publication disclosed, Mr Clark statement on Tuesday, when the Goodluck Jonathan Almajiri Support Initiative Group and the executive council of the National Youth Leaders of Nigeria paid him a visit in his Abuja home. He revealed that President Jonathan is the only President in Nigeria that remembered the almajiri, adding that the northern governors have not done anything for them. Meanwhile, the federal government began the establishment of over 400 almajiri schools across the Northern Nigeria, in other to curb the growing figure of over four million children beggars on the streets of Nigeria. What do you think of this? Source: http://akpraise.com/2015/02/20/see-what-the-almajiris-in-nigeria-said-about-goodluck-jonathan-read/

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Mohammadu Buhari, has been accused of merely pretending to be a progressives when in reality,he is not. This accusation was made yesterday by Yoruba leaders under the umbrella of Yoruba Progressives, who recalled how the former military head of state reportedly attacked the progressive movement during his regime. According to the group in a statement by the Secretary General of Afenifere, Senator Femi Okurounmu, Buhari insulted Chief Obafemi Awolowo and surrounded his house with troops, seized his international passport and in the process, shortened his life by denying him a medical trip abroad. “The APC presidential candidate incarcerated governors of Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN and also cancelled the Lagos Metroline Projects. This is as bizarre as it sounds. Today, Valentine’s day, at around 9:09am, 14th February 2015, at Wat Takien temple in Nonthaburi province, the outskirts of Bangkok, something weird happened!! couples got married while they laid inside a pink coffin!!! It’s reported that ten Thai couples laid in the pink coffin today, during the marriage ceremony that was organized by the Buddhist temple. These couples believe that laying briefly in the coffin will get rid of bad luck and bring happiness into their lives. This is absolutely absurd!! But it’s their belief… What do you guys think? Pretty Hollywood actress, Kerry Washington has disclosed her new middle name. Kerry who got married to former NFL star, Nnamdi Asomugha in July 2013, told InStyle that her new name, Ogechi, was given to her by her mother-in-law. “Nnamdi’s parents are Nigerian immigrants. His father passed when he was young. When you marry into the Igbo culture, you get a new name. My name is Ogechi. I wear it on a necklace my mother-in-law gave me.” The actress revealed she isn’t the only one with a ‘Nigerian’ name in her home. Her daughter also has one. “My daughter’s name is Isabelle Amarachi. Isabelle is my grandmother’s name. She was a bad-ass. She’d be scowling if she knew I called her that, but she was an immigrant from Jamaica who raised seven children alone in the Bronx. Isabelle’s middle name, Amarachi is Igbo for ‘God’s grace’.” |

Following the endorsement of APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, the militants may have been hit by a crisis. Former leader of the group, ‘Gen’ Reuben Wilson, has called on Nigerians to disregard the said endorsement. He said that the ex-militants were all for President Goodluck Jonathan in next month’s presidential election. According Vanguard, Jomo Gbomo, who speaks for the group, has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, for questioning its credibility and describing MEND as a ghost organization because of its proclaimed support for Buhari. Gbomo said: “MEND views the recent question and statement credited to the PDP National publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, as very callous and irresponsible. The question: ‘Explain your connections with MEND’ further confirms and vindicates our views about President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP. “MEND strongly denies any links with the APC and has never been approached for anything, at any point in time, by the party, as alleged by Olisa Metuh.” Wilson, on his part who spoke for the ex-militant commanders, called on Nigerians to ignore the Buhari endorsement story, describing same as part of the APC, propaganda ahead of the general elections. Reaffirming the support of ex-militants in the region for the second term bid of President Jonathan, Reuben who is now a Pastor, said: “MEND ceased to exist from the day we all keyed into the amnesty programme of the Federal Government,” adding that what they had as Jomo Gbomo was a pseudonym used by the ex-agitators to prosecute their crusade as MEND years back. “We challenge the Jomo Gbomo to show his face on a national television the way we will do, as we have always done. Since we left the creeks, we have integrated into the society, contributing to the development of the country. We have stopped all forms of militant activities under any guise, including MEND activities.” He added that at the moment there was nothing like Jomo Gbomo or MEND, stressing that they owned MEND and also collapsed it after they embraced the Federal Government’s amnesty programme. “We have read and heard of reports in the media on the purported endorsement of the APC presidential candidate, Buhari, and have decided to inform the public that we, the former leaders of militant camps, who owned and controlled the activities of MEND, did not and could not have endorsed Buhari as our candidate. “We are aware that the APC and their presidential candidate are desperate for power and are ready to do anything to mislead the public as part of their desperate efforts to take over power this year. But it is criminal to use the name of MEND to score a cheap point and deceive the public. “For the avoidance of doubt, let us put it clearly that we owned MEND and we never endorsed Buhari. Neither Buhari nor MEND can shave our head in our absence.” Source:http://www.today.ng/news/we-did-not-endorse-buhari-ex-mend-commanders/ |
