Politics / PDP, Buhari Differ On Ex-ruling Party’s 16- Year Rule by study4free(m): 1:06am On Sep 13, 2016 |
Olusola Fabiyi, Eniola Akinkuotu, Ovie Okpare and Olaide Oyelude president Muhammadu Buhari has said the Peoples Democratic Party, which ruled Nigeria for 16 years, did not do anything all through its rule. Buhari said this while addressing journalists in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, on Monday after attending Eid prayers, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu. “I want Nigerians to realise that what this government inherited after 16 years of the PDP government was no savings, no infrastructure, no power, no rail, no road and no security,” Buhari stated. The President, however, argued that within a year, his government was able to crush the then rampaging Boko Haram militants. He said he had intensified the war against corruption as those who diverted public funds had started returning the money, stressing that his war against corruption was not one-sided. Buhari added, “Before the elections, we identified three major problems confronting our country. “We first secured the country, for security is key to development. We first dealt with the Boko Haram menace and now, we are dealing with the militants. “Through the Central Bank of Nigeria and an inter-ministerial committee under the Vice-President, we are working out jobs for graduates. “We are equally tackling corruption which is a continuous. We are trying our best and we want Nigerians to do their best too.” The President thanked Nigerians for supporting the Federal Government’s policies, programmes and actions aimed at improving security, revamping the economy and combating corruption. ‘‘We should thank God this year, the reports I’m getting, which are very pleasing, is that we will have a bumper harvest this year,” the President added. Buhari will return to Abuja after the two-day public holiday But the PDP has described the claim by the President that the party did nothing for 16 years as a lazy man’s talk. It said Nigerians should realise that they had mistakenly elected a wrong person as the nation’s President. A member of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, stated this in an interview with one of our correspondents on Monday. Adeyeye wondered whether the President knew the implications of what he said or not. Adeyeye stated, “We have asked the President to sit up and work instead of lamenting every day. His lamentation won’t solve the problem he ought to solve. “By the way, the Nigerian government under a PDP government tarred 36,000 kilometres of road under six years. “The President said there was no railway and he went to inaugurate one of those a PDP President almost completed a few days ago. “Does he know the salary of workers in 1999 and how much they earn now? He should ask how much university lecturers were earning before a PDP President increased their wages. “The PDP government was also paying salaries as and when due; we were not owing.” The former ruling party spokesman added, “Under the Presidency of Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP government created 13 universities, yet the President said we did nothing? “He should be reminded also that we built power stations and also revolutionalised the industrial sector. When the PDP government was leaving, we had the best growing economy in Africa.” Adeyeye asked the President to tell Nigerians if his government had bought new equipment for the Army to fight the Boko Haram war. “All the equipment this government is using to prosecute the war was bought by the PDP government,” he added. Adeyeye insisted that the alleged transformation of airports in Nigeria was handled by the PDP government. He also denied the allegation that the PDP government did not save money for the 16 years that it was in power. He said, “We created the Sovereign Wealth Fund, where money was kept. We also had the Excess Crude Account, where money was being kept. “But the rebellion against the account came from those who are the doyen of the President and his party, the All Progressives Congress, today. “The PDP government was able to cancel foreign debts under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Is that not an achievement?” Adeyeye asked Nigerians to beg the President to save them from unnecessary diversion and face the job he was elected to do based on his campaign promises. APC not cause of Nigeria’s economic recession –Minister Meanwhile, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, has said the APC is not responsible for the country’s economic recession. Alhassan also stated that the Buhari-led government was determined to address the myriad of challenges facing the country including the economy. The minister said this on Saturday in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State when she met with the APC women drawn from the 25 local government areas of the state. Alhassan, who was represented on the occasion by the Coordinator for Women Empowerment, Chief Akukalia Angela, assured the people that the present administration was passionate about developing women and reducing hunger in the country. “The present process of economic recession is not caused by the APC-led government; rather, it was caused by the immediate past government, who looted the nation’s treasury and threw the people into hardship. “The APC will do everything humanly possible to put Nigeria back on the right positive track,” she said. She added that the ministry had begun the distribution of forms to women organisations and groups through the National Empowerment Fund to various states to assist them in their chosen professions. The APC Woman Leader in the state, Dr. Janeth Oyubu, while pledging the support of the APC women in the state for the government, alleged that the PDP government had hijacked all the palliatives initiated by the Buhari government. Oyubu added, “Don’t be carried away with peanuts from the ailing PDP. I can assure you that APC has all it takes to transform your well-being by empowering you so that you can be helpful to your family and the society.” http://skyevibes..co.ke/2016/09/tech-news-top-reasons-why-glo-network.html?m=1 Source: http://punchng.com/pdp-buhari-differ-ex-ruling-partys-16-year-rule/ |
Politics / 4, 904 Workers Recruited By Jonathan May Lose Jobs by study4free(m): 1:01am On Sep 13, 2016 |
Fidelis Soriwei and Friday Olokor The jobs of 4,904 civil servants, who were recruited by the Federal Civil Service Commission in the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, are under threat as the Federal Character Commission has queried the exercise. It was learnt on Monday that moves by the Federal Civil Service Commission to sack the workers had led to a crisis in the civil service. No fewer than 247 of the affected workers had petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission over a plan by the FCSC to sack them. The Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Dr. Shettima Abba, had queried the Chairman of the FCSC, Mrs. Joan Ayo, for alleged violation of the principle of federal character in the employment of the civil servants in a letter dated May 3, 2016. He said the recruitment, which took place between 2013 and 2015, was characterised by a flagrant abuse of the Federal Character principle. Abba alleged that the recruitment was tilted in favour of the South-South geopolitical zone against other parts of the country. He pointed out that the South-South got 33.6 per cent of those employed as against the 26.2 per cent allotted to applicants from for the North-East, North-West and North-Central geopolitical zones. He directed the civil service commission’s boss to ensure that the perceived inequality was addressed in the 2016 recruitment by the commission in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Character Commission. Abba stated, “The Federal Character Commission has viewed and observed with concern the recruitment exercises undertaken by the Federal Civil Service between 2013 and 2015, which glaringly is lopsided and grossly abused the principle of Federal Character to which all institution have subscribed. “The recruitment which recorded the engagement of about 4,904 workers, threw away all common sense and wisdom of national cohesion and integration by favouring some states to the detriment of others. “We are worried that if this trend is allowed to continue, then some sections of the country may not only feel alienated but may feel insecure by the action of people in authority. “It is inconceivable and a gross injustice for a geopolitical zone to be allocated 33.6 per cent of the total candidates recruited as against 26.2 per cent for three zones combined, North-East, North-West and North-Central. “We further request without prejudice that all processes must involve the Federal Character Commission for advice and strict adherence to the principle of federal character as contained in our circular on guidelines and procedure for recruitment.” Investigations revealed that the ICPC intervened in the matter following a protest by 247 of the workers whose jobs were allegedly declared irregular, null and void by the chairman of the FCSC. A top source at the commission said the ICPC interrogated the chairman of the commission and other top officials to defend allegations that they violated the federal character principle in the last recruitment. The ICPC had intervened following a staff audit by the FCSC in which it took a decision to sack the affected federal workers. Consequently, agitated workers wrote the ICPC, alleging that the move to sack them was based on ethnic consideration and a plot to cover up fraud and irregularities in previous employments undertaken by the commission. The workers showed documentary evidence of exchange of letters between the commission and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in which the appointments were authenticated. But the spokesperson for the FCSC, Dr. Abel Oruche, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that only those employed irregularly would be removed. He also said he was not aware of the interrogation of the chairman or any other officer of the commission by the ICPC. He stated, “I’m not aware that anybody was interrogated by the ICPC or whether the chairman was invited. Nobody interrogated the chairman of the FCSC, any commissioner or any official.” Oruche explained that some people were employed without vacancies, adding that the staff audit was aimed at fishing out such people. He stated, “The press statement we sent was not reactive, but to explain to people what we have done and what we are doing to avoid rumour or insinuations. “It is an ongoing audit to make sure that all those people, who were employed irregularly without existing vacancies, are removed. We didn’t issue the statement because somebody called us.” Also, in an electronic mail sent to one of our correspondents on Sunday, Oruche stated that the FCSC chairman had said the staff audit at the federal civil service had revealed some unauthorised appointments. Such appointments, the chairman said, had been declared null and void. According to him, the chairman explained that the staff audit was aimed at fishing out irregular appointees and delisting them from the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System. He stated, “The chairman maintained that this action is necessary because the appointments are not backed by any vacancy from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and as such, were not budgeted for. Besides, they are in gross violation of the Federal Character principle.” http://skyevibes..co.ke/2016/09/tech-news-top-reasons-why-glo-network.html?m=1 Source: http://punchng.com/4-904-workers-recruited-jonathan-may-lose-jobs/ |

Politics / [latest] Houseboy Drivers Names Used Open 15m Accounts by study4free(m): 8:45am On Sep 12, 2016 |
Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested four domestic servants, including a driver and a houseboy, whose names were used to open bank accounts for Mrs Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Sources within the anti-graft agency said on Sunday that the companies’ accounts were opened at Skye Bank. The companies are Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited. The four companies’ accounts, which have since been frozen by the EFCC, have a balance of about $15m while another account, which bears Patience Jonathan’s name, has $5m. Mr. Sammie Somiari, who deposed to an affidavit on behalf of the ex-President’s wife, said the former First Lady was the owner of the money in the accounts. She had revealed that she gave millions of dollars to the then Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, to open accounts for her. Somiari, however, claimed that Dudafa opened five accounts for Patience and that only one of the accounts was in her name, while the other four were opened in the names of companies belonging to Dudafa. A detective at the EFCC, however, revealed that Dudafa used his domestic servants’ names to open the four other accounts and then deposited the money into the accounts. The operative added, “We were investigating Dudafa when we stumbled on those four companies’ domiciliary accounts opened at Skye Bank with a balance of about $15m. On further investigation, we were able to identify the directors of the companies. “When we detained the directors, we found out that they were Dudafa’s domestic servants. One of them was a houseboy while another one was a driver. Their photographs were used in opening the accounts and their signatures were forged. “We found out that these domestic servants were completely innocent because they had no access to the accounts. We have since released them. The sole signatory to the accounts was Patience Jonathan and she was issued with a special card, which is accepted worldwide. She has a separate account, which was opened in her name and has a balance of $5m.” The detective said a lawyer, Amajuoyi Briggs, who allegedly helped Dudafa to perpetrate the fraud, would also be arraigned. It was learnt that two Skye Bank executives, Demola Bolodeoku and Dipo Oshodi, who helped Dudafa to open the accounts on March 22, 2010, were also being investigated. The detective added, “This is a clear case of fraud and there is no way the bank officials will say they did not know what was going on. They are under investigation and those found culpable will be arraigned.” The EFCC operative said he could not immediately confirm if the transaction was reported to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit. He explained that the commission had discovered a trend which politicians used in laundering and concealing funds, saying it was becoming more rampant due to the operation of the Bank Verification Number which links all accounts owned by an individual. He added, “What we have noticed is that in order to conceal funds, what politicians and top civil servants do is to open bank accounts in the name of family or friends and then make themselves the sole signatory to the account. “Don’t forget that we traced about 17 bank accounts to the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.). “Often times, they do this in connivance with bank officials and that is why the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has said henceforth, whenever we are investigating a bank official, we will probe the entire bank as well because these officials usually act under the instruction of their superiors.” Jonathan’s wife has, however, sued Skye Bank for freezing her bank accounts and giving the EFCC vital information about her finances. She also wants the court to order Skye Bank to pay her damages in the sum of N200m for what she termed a violation of her right to own personal properties under Section 44 of the 1999 Constitution. Politics / Why Ekiti Had 10 Govs In 20 Years — Fayose by study4free(m): 6:30am On Sep 11, 2016 |
The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose,
has said his controversial nature was
behind his good leadership.
Fayose, in a statement on Saturday on
the 20th anniversary of the creation of
the state compared his performance as a
second-term governor with past
governors and administrators since the
creation of Ekiti in 1996.
The governor, speaking through his Chief
Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said
since the state’s inception, none of the
past nine governors could measure up to
him in terms of performance.
He said, “Ekiti was created 20 years ago.
It is the only one of the states created in
1996 that has yet to have either an
airport or airstrip. Still, the opposition
does not see this as a minus for the
state.
“I don’t know how to play politics with
development of the state. To me, Ekiti
(comes) first. The dirty politics here is
responsible for Ekiti having 10
governors, as opposed to Ebonyi with
four since 1996. During my first tenure,
the opposition said there was no need to
dualise roads of the state capital,
everybody is enjoying it today.”
The governor added that the
achievements of his predecessor,
Dr.Kayode Fayemi, who is the current
Minister of Solid Minerals Development,
in four years were only three projects.
Fayose said, “The projects are the new
Government House, which amounts to a
white elephant project; the uncompleted
civic centre; and the uncompleted state
pavilion, which he said gulped huge
resources without any concrete use for
the people.
“My priority is to leave Ekiti better than
I met it. What I did during my first term
are those visible things in the state
today. I may be tough, I may be
controversial, but all these are catalysts
for my performance. I built the first
governor’s office, dualised roads of the
state capital, constructed roads in every
nook and cranny of the state, put on
ground many structures for use of the
state. I always scored the first position
in development of the state.”
According to the governor, his
developmental projects in the state are
being criticised unduly.
“I am a visionary leader. I don’t wait
until there is a dire need for anything. I
always plan for the future. Is it when
there is a gridlock in Ado Ekiti that we
will build a flyover?
“Must there be fire outbreak before we
have a fire service station? I thank the
Almighty God for bringing me back as
Ekiti governor and unto Him I give all
glory for the landmark projects I have
done in the state,” he said. http://skyevibes..nl/2016/09/i-am-best-governor-of-ekiti-state.html?m=1

Nairaland / General / Fayose Says He Is The Best Governor Of Ekiti State by study4free(m): 5:59am On Sep 11, 2016 |
– The Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose
has said that he is the best Ekiti has
ever seen
– Fayose said no governor of Ekiti has
measured up to his performance since
the creation of the state
– The charismatic governor says his
policy remains to put Ekiti first
Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose has rated
his performance so far, as greater than
that of any other administrator of the
state since it was created.
Governor Ayo Fayose says he is the best
Ekiti has ever had since the creation of the
state.
Governor Ayo Fayose declared himself as
the best performing governor of the state
since its creation in 1996. The governor,
who spoke yesterday through his chief
press secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said
out of 11 governors and administrators
who had governed the state, none has
measured up to his performance. Fayose said: “Ekiti was created 20 years ago. It is the only one among the states created at the same time that is yet to have either airport or airstrip. Still, the opposition does not see this as a minus for the state. I don’t know how to play politics with development of the state. To me, Ekiti first. The dirty politics here is responsible for Ekiti having almost 11 governors as opposed to Ebonyi with four since 1996. During my first tenure, the opposition said there was no need to dualise roads in the state capital, everybody is enjoying it today.” Reeling out his laudable achievements, he added: “My priority is to leave Ekiti better than how I met it. What I did during my first tenure are those visible things in the state today. I may be tough, I may be controversial, but all these are catalysts to my performance. I built the first governor’s office, dualised roads in the state capital, constructed roads in all nooks and crannies of the state, put on ground many structures for use of the state. I always scored the first position in development of the state.” He, therefore, described those criticizing his style of governance as detractors. “I have transformed the palace of Ewi. There can’t be two palaces. I am building the first flyover. There cannot be need for another flyover in the next 30 years. I am building new king’s market (Oja Oba). There can’t be two king’s market. Dualisation of roads is ongoing in the local government headquarters. My detractors know what I am made off and are disturbed by my landmarks. And that is why they will always concoct lies to distract me or slow me down. I am not a rookie, I am a second term governor, very experienced and learned in grassroots politics. If it is not photocromic, it is soldier used to rig. If it is not Dasuki money today, perhaps tomorrow they will fabricate many unimaginable lies. They said building flyover is a waste, how many vehicles ply Ekiti roads. http://skyevibes..co.ke/?m=1 Similarly, they criticised my plan to build airport for Ekiti to the extent of poisoning the minds of the land owners against our good intention,” he lamented. Fayose berated his immediate predecessor, Kayode Fayemi, for his low performance, adding that he left the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBED) worse than he met it and that Fayemi had only three achievements to his credit. The Sun reports that he made these submissions preparatory to the 20th anniversary of the state coming up on October 1. Rating the performance of the administration, the governor said Fayemi had only three achievements to his credit in four years. These, according to him, included: the new government House, dismissed as elephant project, the uncompleted civic centre and uncompleted state pavilion. The pavilion project, he said, gulped huge state resources without any concrete use for the people. In a similar vein, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti has reportedly signed documents directing the state’s accountant-general to immediately refund monies over-deducted from the salaries of teachers who had bought some facilities from government during the previous administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi. Fayemi is now the minister of Solid Minerals Development in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. A few years ago, teachers had bought cars and laptops among other facilities from government on loan with an arrangement for monthly installmental deductions from their salaries. According the Ekiti state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) , Comrade Samuel Akosile, the over- deductions from the teachers’ salaries has been a perennial problem but when brought to the notice of Governor Fayose, he promptly set up a committee to look into the complaint, giving an ultimatum of 30 days to report back to him. Spokesperson to the governor, Lere Olayinka, said the report and its recommendations were submitted to the governor on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Osuntokun hall of the government office, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. http://skyevibes..co.ke |

Nairaland / General / Buhari Possesses Strong Political Will To Revive Economy – APC by study4free(m): 11:56am On Sep 06, 2016 |
The All Progressives Congress on Monday urged Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari. It said Buhari’s strong political will would revive the nation’s economy. This was contained in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja by National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni. According to the statement, the Peoples Democratic Party should stop making insensitive comments about the economy as the government is conscious of the hardship its citizens are faced with. Buni said: “In reacting to the orchestrated and insensitive comments by the PDP on the economy, the APC urges the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration to remain focused in its bold bid to restore economic growth in the country. “’In spite of PDP’s orchestrated and feeble attempts to blackmail the current administration and twist facts, the reality remains that the prevailing socio- economic hardship faced by Nigerians is a direct consequence of the mismanagement of the economy. “It also includes the unprecedented looting of the country’s commonwealth perpetrated under PDP’s watch. “’The PDP’s attempt to turn truth on its head is fraudulent, insensitive and an insult to Nigerians. “For the umpteenth time, the PDP must own up to its transgression and apologize to Nigerians. “’Going forward, the urgent task before the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration is to restore the country’s battered economy back to health. “All legitimate and innovative means are being employed to achieve this in the quickest possible time. “’The APC assures Nigerians of the strong political will and commitment of Buhari’s administration to revive the economy and tackle the nation’s current challenges through suitable and well-thought economic policies, fiscal discipline and socio- political reforms.” Buni said among other strategic economic agenda planned by the government, diversification of the country’s economy was a priority. Buni further commented: “To this end, Buhari is aggressively formulating and implementing policies aimed at diversifying Nigeria’s economy from oil to other sectors such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing. “’The APC assures Nigerians that the administration will pull the country out of the present hardships. “’With the support, cooperation, patience and prayers of Nigerians, the country will reach its deserved potential under our leadership.” http://skyevibes..co.ke/2016/09/buhari-possesses-strong-political-will.html?m=1 |
