CaptainStephen, or anyone else who knows. Not speculate but knows.
When the NA unveiled the bike squad, they had proper off-road bikes. All the pics I'm seeing lately seem to be commercial bikes not suited for off-road.
What gives?
PIC1: Off-road COIN bikes at unveiling;
PIC2: typical pics accompanying bike squad stories.
PIC2 are locally called 'boxer bikes' they are suited for off-road transportation and widely used in Nigeria, especially in the NW

They have been adopted by bandits as cavalry because of the adaptability of the vehicle to the terrain.

They were even moves by the central government and some state governments to ban them

Our focus is on growing Cross River’s economy – Gov Ayade

Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has described the concessioning of the ultra-modern Cocoa Processing plant, Ikom to AA Universal Agro Industries Ltd, as part of the deliberate effort of his administration to recalibrate the economy of the state. Speaking during the concession agreement signing ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Calabar, the governor expressed optimism that AAU will immediately swing into action and get the Cocoa processing plant to commence production of chocolate bars. Gov Ayade warned that failure to start production of chocolate bars in three months will result to revocation of the concession agreement. “This Cocoa processing plant is one of the industries established by our administration as part of our industrialisation policy and its concessioning today is geared towards recalibrating and growing Cross River’s economy; the concessioning is dictated by economic realities and not friendship. “Government expect to see chocolate bars from the company soon and if after three months none was produced, the concession will be cancelled,” he said. He disclosed that the bidding process was open and competitive and that AAU came out tops apart from being the only indigenous company that indicated interest and took part in the process. Earlier, Chief Agara said he was proud to be part of the success of the industrialization policy of the governor, assuring that the Cocoa plant will commence production immediately. Said the AAU boss: “I can assure Cross Riverians and the world that we have a modern facility that would produce the best finished product that the world, and particularly Cross Riverians would be proud of. “Within the next couple of weeks or months we will be ready to hit the market. “We are an indigenous company and I am the chairman of the company and we are from Cross River, so we will not disappoint, we will not fail”. Urging Nigerians to look beyond oil and diversify their economic interest by going into Agriculture, Chief Agara, a Lawyer, disclosed that his company has “what we call multi-purpose cooperative with over 1,200 cocoa farmers that we are encouraging. “This year alone we’ve given about 60,000 seedlings to cocoa farmers to regenerate their farms,” Agara said.

Community in Cross River State Forbids Men and Women from Speaking Same Language, Video Goes Viral

Ubang is a community in Cross River state, Nigeria, that has distinct languages for men and women – The community forbids men and women from speaking the language as everyone is expected to speak the language of his/her gender – In a trending video, an elder from the community gave more details about the culture of the Ubang people and why it is so A viral video shows a community in Nigeria with separate languages for the males and females in the community. The community identified as Ubang is located in Cross River state, Nigeria.

Men and women speak different languages. Photo Credit: BBC Africa According to an elder, all children are expectted to learn both languages before age 10.

From 10 years upwards, everyone is expected to speak only the language pertaining to his or her gender.

In an interview by BBC Africa shared by Nigeria stories on Twitter, the elder revealed that any member of the community who speaks the language of another gender would be regarded and treated as 'abnormal' in the community. Speaking on the reason behind the distinct languages, the elder said:

"Ubang people believe the language is a blessing. Adam and Eve, they were Ubang people. "As God was creating this Earth as he wanted to, he said he wants to share two languages to each tribe, so he started with Ubang."

Nigerians share their thoughts about Ubang community Doctor Flowz said:

"Cross River State in general is literally a home to uncountable tribes and languages. Only witness can tell. That place deserves to be nicked Tower of Babel".

" Iwuoha Noel stated:
"So it'll be almost impossible for a visitor to learn the language. You have to learn 2 languages and figure out which is M or F."

Angola Peter reacted:
"Cross river alone suppose to be independent country, because they have more different language more than accumulation of 10 different countries."

Adeniyi Lanre added: "And some people want Nigeria to break. So in their mind they think doesn't know what is doing abi?" See the tweet below: Group reveals why local languages must be cherished Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that government at all levels have been urged to encourage the preservation of the people's local languages, dialects and native cultures by imposing bans on foreign cultural intrusions. Legit.ng reports that the advice was given on Saturday, November 21, in Lagos during the public presentation of Fulfulde century educational books. Speaking at the event, the Sarkin Fulani of Lagos and chairman, Association of Fulani chiefs, southwest, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Bambado II, described language as an important part of any society since it enables people to communicate and express themselves.

Yakurr Legislative Council Pass Vote Of No Confidence On Chairman Over Alleged Misappropriation

Yakurr Legislative Council has passed a vote of no confidence on the Executive Chairman of the Council – Ofem Ebri Obeten over alleged misappropriation of funds, given seven days ultimatum to appear before the House or face impeachment. A legislator in the Council who pleads anonymity told CrossRiverWatch that the decision was a unanimous move by the House after fishing out gray areas ranging from misappropriation of funds and standing order violations by the Chairman. “Legislatures have proceedings; before now the first step was where the income and expenditures were found wanting, the legislature will now send it to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation; it is the Committee that will study the income and expenditure of the Chairman of the Council, and then whatever report that will come out will be presented before the House. So when this report was put before the House, some areas needed the Chairman’s explanation.”

The source noted that several invitations of the Chairman to clear certain things were snubbed, hence the need to pass the vote and the notice. “So the process went on by inviting him the first time he didn’t appear, the second time he didn’t appear and he still didn’t appear the third time: following legislative proceeding, a vote of no confidence was passed accordance with the Local Government Law (as amended) 2007, in-line with our Legislative Standing Order and Rules of the House. Seven days were given to him to appear, it is at the expiration of the seven days the impeachment notice was served, to make 14 days which is three legislative proceedings. The window is still open for the Chairman to appear and explain to the legislators the areas they need to get clarification. It was a unanimous decision of the entire House. “The impeachment will be determined by what will come out between now and the seven days expiration. His expiration date is between now and Tuesday next week.” The source said it is not an impeachment as reported in some quarters: “It was not an impeachment but an impeachment notice that will give room for the Chairman of Council to appear before the legislature and explain certain things that are very grey.”

Cross River Moves To 4th Best State On Fiscal Performance But Remains One of Nigeria’s Worst State For Business

Cross River State has moved up 4 places, from 7th, becoming Nigeria’s 4th best-performing state-behind Rivers, Kaduna, and Lagos in the 2022 fiscal performance ranking done by BudgIT. This civic-tech organization works to expand budgetary transparency and accountability in governance. An analysis of the report released within the week and seen by CrossRiverWatch shows that the State fared poorly in the “ease of doing business” category, ranking 27th out of the 36 States in Nigeria. Cross River outperformed Oyo, Kwara, Borno, Kano, Abia, Edo, Delta, Zamfara, and Taraba States.

In terms of debt; “The five most indebted States are Lagos, Kaduna, Rivers, Ogun, and Cross River and are responsible for 37.09% of the total subnational debt.” Cross River State’s $279 Million is the 3rd highest foreign debt owned by any State, while the N159 Billion domestic debt is the 6th highest in the country. On the positive side, Cross River State grew its revenue from N94 billion in 2020 to N127 billion in 2021, representing a 34.13 increase in revenue generated, and the State also attracted foreign capital of about $25.85 million, the highest of any South South State. In a press release announcing the report, BudgIT stated that the States were ranked using their ability to meet operating expenses with only their IGR, percentage year-on-year growth of each State’s IGR, the State’s ability to cover operating expenses and loan repayment obligations with their total revenues without resorting to borrowing, the state debt sustainability, and the degree of State’s prioritizing capital expenditure concerning their operating expenses.

Wike’s donation stirs controversy in Cross River

Former Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Okoi Obono-Obla, has called on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to stay clear of Cross River State’s politics. Recall that Wike, on Wednesday night, hosted Cross River State Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidates for state and National Assembly elections and donated 25 new buses for their campaigns in the state. The delegation, which included chairmen of the party in various councils, was led by Cross River governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, who said: “Today is historic. Wike is a trailblazer for justice and equity. He speaks the truth endlessly. We thank Wike for being a good friend when Governor Ben Ayade defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Wike has defended us and protected us from intimidation and has made PDP a party to beat in Cross River. There is nothing that Wike is asking for that is personal. All he seeks is justice.” But Obono-Obla, in a statement, alleged: “Rivers State is plotting to put Cross River State under its thumb. Cross River State cannot be a satellite colony of Rivers State. Rivers State was also created on May 27, 1967. Therefore, Cross River and Rivers State were born on the same day. They were part of the defunct Eastern Region of Nigeria. “All the leaders of the Calabar Ogoja Rivers State Movement that championed the creation of a state out of the defunct Eastern Region were from the present Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. “After 69 years, it is sacrilegious for politicians from Cross River State to troop to Rivers State to beg for political support, favours and money to run elections here in our state. Our Governor must source money and materials to fund his election from our state. “His allegiance must be to the good people of Cross River State, not to a local potentate in Port Harcourt.” REACTING, a chieftain of the PDP in the state, Mr. Gabe Odu Oji, in a statement, described Obono-Obla’s comments as mere “sophistry, presumption of a political neophyte! Nothing can be further from the truth! In politics, moral or material support can come from anybody or anywhere in Nigeria! In fact, in political brinkmanship and masterstroke, moral and material support can even come from an opposition party to an opposition party during election! “Such was the curious and paradoxical case when in the Presidential election of 2019, the then PDP Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, funded the presidential election of Muhammadu Buhari of APC! So also did PDP governors, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Babaginda Aliyu of Niger State, in 2015, financed the APC presidential election. In all the extant examples of the governors in question, did their states come under the thumb of Buhari?”

We will fix our problems.
We always admit to our problems.
Long before they fester like Nigeria and become impossible to fix.
You seem to understand along with kikuyu1 the story of the migration of African tribes

I'm curious on your what your version is of the Bantu expansion theory.

What empire was built and destroyed to initiate migration on that scale?

Fresh fish business is gradually returning to its peak in Maiduguri following progress made in decimating Boko Haram terrorists and restoration of relative peace across the state.

Hundreds of traders, including wholesalers and retailers, have engaged in the supply of fresh, smoked and dry fish from the fishing communities in Baga where local fishermen supply to the wholesalers in Maiduguri and other major towns and cities in the state.
For Calabar like this, I dun de see people de hawk Baga fish oo

God bless the economy of Borno State

God bless Nigeria.

If the Economy of Borno State is fully activated millions of people would be lifted out of poverty

The boom has already began

Let things just stabilise a bit for grain production, , livestock, commerce and construction would follow.

Borno is a good place to be in if you're business minded o

Maiduguri would host the largest commodity markets in the region(C.africa) like Kano for W.africa

If you have cashflow begin to think o

Calabar residents berate Gov Ayade over preparations for carnival amid mountains of refuse
Increasing numbers of residents in Calabar, capital of Cross River State, have carpeted the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, over his preparations to stage the annual one-month December carnival. They have blamed him for alleged poor governance and inability to evacuate refuse which have taken over all parts of the city since early this year. Phone-in callers over FAD radio on Thursday morning berated the state government for making the once renowned very clean city to be noted as the dirtiest city. They strongly decried and condemned what they described as the government’s insensitivity towards environmental sanitation of the city and other parts of the state. “Calabar is now very, very dirty. I am too ashamed. Calabar is smelling. Everywhere you turn you see heaps and heaps of wastes that have not been cleared in the last three months. The wastes are bringing out flies which are perching on roadside foods”, a caller Nyong Effiom cried. Another, Vivian Edu said, “what pains me is that stakeholders, especially the Efiks who were renowned as a set of hygienic people and their traditional chieftains, are keeping quiet while their ancestral lands and fame are being tainted.” Throughout the one-hour programme, both the discussants and callers expressed sadness and wondered whether the governor was preparing to invite the world to the planned carnival to come and see the filthiness of the city or to mock his government. Commissioner for Environment who also oversees the Ministry of Agriculture, Mfon Bassey, said the task of evacuating waste is that of the state wastes management agency. At the Nigeria Society of Engineers event in Calabar penultimate week, the agency’s general manager, Sunny Uko, said the government was planning to buy waste from residents, especially those in the urban centres. Uko listed arrays of challenges that do not allow them to function optimally, describing them as huge. One of these was that they had only one truck that broke down regularly. He said the plan is to buy the waste from residents who often do not pay evacuation fees. “We have a plan to be buying wastes from residents of the state. “We will go from house to house to evaluate and buy them,” he said.

Communal Crisis: Ebonyi, Cross River Communities Sign Peace Accord

The people of Unwanna community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi State and their neighbors of Western Erei communities in Biase local government area of Cross River State yesterday signed a peace accord to end their age long communal crisis that has led to the loss of lives, destruction of properties, abduction and arson. The peace accord which was signed at the Afikpo North Council headquarters by the leaders of both warring communities among other things urged the State government of both communities to consider paying compensation to assuage the losses suffered by the both communities.

The people of Erei and Unwana communities had before the crisis enjoyed peaceful and harmonious co-existence for decades. Of late, there has been intractable crisis between different factions of the Erei Communities leading to internally displaced persons some of whom found refuge in Unwana community. It would be recalled that on the 13th March, 2022, one Late Mr. Lugard Okwe from Umolor-Erei was gruesomely murdered along Unwana Erei Road by unknown armed men which led to violent reactions from the Erei community with Erei youth embarking on midnight invasion of Unwanna community.

The invasion witnessed wanton destruction and damage of Unwana communal properties, arson, personal injuries, abduction of 6 persons from Unwana community by the irate youths.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the abductees were later released at the timely intervention of the Governments of Ebonyi and Cross River States Security Agencies.

Addressing journalists shortly after the peace accord was signed, the Afikpo North council chairman, Hon Uche Ibiam said that part of the resolution by the both communities include safeguarding the inter-state border safety, security and protection. In our effort to ensure lasting peace between Unwanna and the Western Erei communities resolved to co-operate as an indivisible entity”

“We also resolved to make an effort towards releasing the confiscated motor bikes and other items, if any, to their respective owners”. “It was also resolved that the government and people of Cross River State and the Erei communities would also take measures towards finding lasting solutions to the crisis in the western Erei communities to enable the internally displaced persons to return home and resume their normal life”. The resolution also includes the removal/dismantling of the blockage on the Unwana Erei road, with the guarantee of safe passage of all commuters.

Both communities also resolved to establish check points at two locations along the Unwana-Erei roads with each community citing her own check point within her territory.

Calabar Port berths 190-metre long generalcargo vessel

CALABAR —The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has restated its avowed commitment to ensuring that Calabar Port remains one of the most viable ports in the country, following the berthing of a 190-metre long vessel from China with 11,800 tonnes of cargo. The General Cargo Vessel, MV Yong Jin, came into Nigeria on September 24, 2022, with about 100 heavy duty trucks, excavators, fire fighting truck among others.

Speaking with newsmen at the ECM Terminals, yesterday, in Calabar, the Calabar Ports Manager, Mr. Olumati Festus, said the port received over three big vessels in the last 90 days, adding that port activities have kept increasing. He explained that the frequent berthing of vessels shows that Calabar Port is not “sleeping” but actively creating opportunities for locals also.

His words: “The economy of the state, locals and food vendors benefit everyday, because during break by noon and after close of work, they buy food, water and drinks. All these go directly into pockets of small business owners within and around the port. “This has once again proven critics of Calabar port wrong, we are strongly in business and this is the third vessel in less than three months. We are open, ready and have the man power for business.

“The MV Yong Jin came in from China on the 24th of this month and over 100 trucks, excavators were among the 11,800 tonnes of general cargo being off-loaded here today and I can assure you that the maritime community has greatly been impacted in Cross River.” On his part, the Captain of the vessel, Xin Jian, said it was an easy sail from China to Nigeria, adding that every navigational assistance he needed was fully provided.
