Karlovich: Iheanacho 0 goals in 8 games this season Maja 2 goals in 17 games this season Dessers 4 goals in 15 matches Onuachu 19 goals in 19 matches Osimhen 2 goals in 6 matches Ugbo 10 goals in 17 matches
Ugbo is clearly doing better than Maja, Iheanacho and Dessers even Osimhen at the moment based on the above stats. If for instance 4 strikers are called up to the eagles I don't see a reason why he shouldn't be in contention for a place in the team. Do you consider league difficulty? What has Ugbo done that Onyekuru, Nwakaeme, Dessers, Umar has not done, did it get them SE callups? There is a reason Rohr draws a line at certain leagues, you can't score ten goals at Afghanistan league at be expecting a callup |

Karlovich: Lol, okay based on your required level assessment suggest the strikers that should be called up? List their names because the 3 you mentioned have 10 league goals combined together this season. Osimhen, Onuachu, Iheanacho, Dessers, Maja are the regulars, Ugbo would do more than score 10 goals in the Belgian league to displace any of those |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Subzero047: 4:14pm On Jan 12, 2021 |
Karlovich: To the first question you asked, my answer is yes. To your second question, well it depends on what Rohr wants. If I ask you to list the players we have at the required level you can't name them, the ones you listed haven't done exceptionally this season in their leagues.
Mind you there is no such thing as experimenting in football, at some point players will make their debut for teams and if they are good they are retained if not they stop getting call ups.
Nwakaeme and Simy all played for Nigeria at some point and we all followed the abuse they got due to their performances on the field of play.
The SE have a lot of work to do in the striking department, it's not enough for Rohr to list Chukwueze, Musa, Ejuke, Iwobi, Simon, Kalu as forwards on his call ups whereas they are not. So saying that a striker who is doing well in Belgium shouldn't be considered is not a good thing. Well there is a required level and the bar is moving higher and higher, at a certain time 15+ goals in the Dutch league would have gotten you a first team Striker or performing credibly in France or Turkey but it hasn't even gotten Cyriel Dessers, Maja and Nwakaeme 2 caps each So you would be deceiving yourself if you think there is a no bar for SE invitation or that Ugbo has gotten anywhere near it |

Karlovich: The players you mentioned, Ugbo has been better than them this season. What do you mean by better, because he has scored more goals in a lesser league? Besides he's not at the required level yet so his call up is out of the discussion |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Subzero047: 2:10pm On Jan 12, 2021 |
Karlovich: the second strikers we had, how have they performed when they had the chance? We all witnessed our games last year when Osimhen wasn't around. Any striker currently doing well in Europe should be considered including Awoniyi, Akpom or Ugbo. Onuachu is doing so well in Belgium which is a decent league by the way but hasn't done so in SE but Osimhen also was great in Belgium and translated such form so far in the eagles. Saying that Ugbo shouldn't because of the league he plays in makes me wonder if we have a Haaland, Neymar or Benzema we kept somewhere in a higher league. The Ejuke I expected to make a move from the Netherlands to a much more higher league chose to go to Russia which almost the same with the Dutch league and hasn't replicated his form in the Netherlands there. Cyriel Dessers that was the top scorer in the Dutch league has not even gotten any chance in the SE, same with Nwakaeme even Simmy Nwankwo, the SE has gone past the experimental stage any striker looking for a chance should be doing more than 10 goals in a Belgian league |

Karlovich: The Belgian league is not a mediocre league and it's not like we have strikers firing on all angles in Italy, Spain, England, Germany or kept an Mbappe or Haaland somewhere. For striking options Ugbo has done better than Awoniyi and Akpom this season. Are Awoniyi and Akpom our second choice strikers? They don't even make the team besides Awoniyi has been injured for a while and he has 5 goals in a higher rated league My point is he has to do better than he's doing to even be considered for a call up |

Karlovich: He has done better than Awoniyi and Akpom. Has he done enough? 10 goals in 17 matches in a mediocre league is not even enough standards for our second choice striker |

Philosopher1979: I dont know myself. Personally, i think our u17 and u20 have a problem with finishing. They just dont convert their chances. Their coaches should look for Hallands and Osimhens who can finish the chances they keep creating. In consolation i think we can harvest some very good players from there The NFF should start a program to nurture them through the youth teams, if we do that I don't think we lost much The Ghana youth teams have a partnership with FC Norjslland why don't we have that? |
