TheGoodJoe: Klopp teams prefer to pressure their opponents into making a mistake high up the pitch and then, rapidly, as in the blink of an eye, regain possession and score a goal without even giving the rival player the time to blink.
The term 'Gegenpress' – meaning 'counter-press' – is also associated with Klopp and covers his idea of 'heavy metal football'.
The crux of the approach for Klopp's teams is that if you immediately lose the ball, you have to win it back instantly. This strategy involves a great deal of running and intense focus, with the defensive line played high and the players organised in packs in their hunt to regain possession of the ball.

Note the term counter-press. They do not sit back for you to attack. That is not Klopp's philosophy. How is that different from the way counter attacking teams like Madrid set up? Relying on your opponents to give up the ball for you to score is it attacking or counter attacking? |

TheGoodJoe: Pressure on the ball
Before Barcelona played Manchester United in the Champions League final at Wembley in 2011, Alex Ferguson said that the way Barça pressured their opponents to win the ball back was "breathtaking". That, he added, was Guardiola's innovation. Ferguson admitted that United hadn't known how to cope with it in the Champions League final in Rome in 2009. He thought it would be different at Wembley. It wasn't.
https://www.theblizzard.co.uk/article/peps-four-golden-rules This is basically counter attacking, what do you think is counter attacking, parking bus? Not all teams that counter attack park bus e. g Wolves |

kendrick9: Definitely not me.. You are alone on that insane view. Klopp teams are always on the front foot no matter the team they face.. That Liverpool are the amongst the best at counterattacking at speed doesn't mean they are not an attacking team.... There is a reason 'attacking' is in the word counterattacking, now ask yourself how does his attack originate from the creativity of his midfielders or the mistake of his opponents? Teams can be so good from counterattacking that they dominate teams e.g Mourinho's Real Madrid |

TheGoodJoe: It has not happened because we have spent years with a coach who has insisted on holding the team back with mostly negative play. You can not eat your cake and have it. You mean we should dump a coach who gets results for a coach who will fail in the next couple of years for a dream which may not be realised? Nice |

TheGoodJoe: Yes they will but it does not happen overnight but we will be heading somewhere. Are you not seeing Ndidi's transformation at Leicester? It took Westerhof five years to get that team gunning on all cylinders.
Also he continued scouting and looking for players home and abroad that will suit the system. Not benching an offensive side back for a central defender because of negativity. That is a futuristic wish and has not happened yet, Yet you are complaining that Rohr is not dominating midfields when they have not reached your utopia form yet |

We need to grow as a team from training to live performances. Negative play will limit us from reaching our level. How about you put this current setup, will they provide those kind of performances? Will Ndidi and Etebo dominate midfields like Okocha and Oliseh? |

TheGoodJoe: All teams counter attack but when you want to classify them, it is on their strengths. When Liverpool play, they are hardly on the back foot. No matter the team. We can term them a counter attacking side. Real Madrid is difficult but if they meet Barcelona today, you can guess which side will do more of the defending. Real Madrid. But if Barca meets Liverpool, I bet it will be Barca on the back foot. It is not about strength but about philosophy, that Norwich meets Liverpool and has less possession does not make them a less attacking based team Liverpool dominated Barca because there was a gulf in quality and determination, doesn't change the philosophy of both sides |

TheGoodJoe: I disagree with Klopp being counter attacking because in almost every game he plays, apart from some City games, he is on the front foot and dominates the game. How does he play? Does he play with ball playing midfielders who create brilliant chances or does he wait till you have the ball first before attacking you with Mane, Salah and Firmino? Real Madrid are a counter attacking side, that does not mean they don't dominate some teams |

TheGoodJoe: As I said, it could be system hindering some players. Ndidi is no more average on the ball. He has pulled out some brilliant performances. Iwobi has shown some excellent touches of the game, workrate and insane passes that have left many breathless. Etebo might be average on the ball but in a good system, you just need order in play and doing things simply. Etebo also has the penetrating runs that can cause teams problem.
A coach with the right philosophy and system can get brilliance from our midfielders. Ekong, I repeat was brilliant at the Olympics. He distributed brilliantly. Is it also the system hindering Ekong at Udinese? You forgot that Olympics was 8 years ago and a lot of dynamics have changed since then |

sheyishemba: Pep Guardiola says Jurgen Klopp is world's best attacking coach
Pep Guardiola has called Jurgen Klopp's attacking tactics as the best in the world and agrees his brand of football is "heavy metal". The Manchester City boss paid a glowing tribute to his former Bundesliga nemesis ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown at Anfield. The managerial pair have won league titles in Germany and after eight meetings between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, the final score was four apiece. Having witnessed Liverpool's 4-1 demolition of Stoke in midweek, Guardiola was full of praise for the Reds.
"Our styles are not similar but I like a lot the way they play," the Spaniard said. "Maybe Klopp is the best manager in the world at creating teams who attack the back four with so many players, from almost anywhere on the pitch.
"They have an intensity with the ball and without the ball, and it is not easy to do that. They attack wide sometimes with [Nathaniel] Clyne and [James] Milner but they especially like to attack from inside, through the middle.
Pep Guardiola says Yaya Toure has performed outstandingly since his return following his side's 3-0 victory
"I don't think there is another team in the world attacking in this way with so many players capable of launching moves in an instant." Guardiola will be desperate for his side to deliver in front of their visiting fans. They will start the game in third spot, one point behind their second-placed opponents and seven points behind leaders Chelsea. He will be carefully plotting how to get one over his former adversary and admitted he had learned a lot when Bayern first came up against Klopp's Borussia Dortmund.
"I was new and it was 'wow', what a good lesson," Guardiola added. "We lost 4-2. Afterwards in the league I learned a bit more about how to control those situations but it was never easy. "When Klopp speaks about his football being heavy metal, I understand completely. It is so aggressive. For the fans it is really good.
"Our styles are not similar but I like a lot the way they play, for the spectators, because in three or four seconds they are attacking."
Go and meet pep and argue with him kojubelo Our styles are not similar but I like a lot the way they play," the Spaniard said. "Maybe Klopp is the best manager in the world at creating teams who attack the back four with so many players, from almost anywhere on the pitch. Pep was clearly referring to Klopp's style of 'attacking' without the ball or pressing Even Liverpool's fans know that Klopp is a counter attacking coach |

TheGoodJoe: Ajayi is brilliant but also remember Ekong was brilliant playing the ball at the Olympics with Siasia. I think the system of the current Super Eagles have held Ekong back. He was a joy to watch at the Olympics. Ekong is awkward on the ball even at Udinese, Ndidi is average on the ball, Etebo is average on the ball, Iwobi is a ball carrier but not a playmaker How do you expect a coach with such players to play attacking football? |

sheyishemba: the player a team has dictate the formation/tactics a team can use with the pool of player Nigeria have Nigeria should be playing a possessive game with short play and a balanced/attacking formation ....I don't really fancy the idea of defending the ball for 90mins and the attackers doing nothing it doesn't sound good Joachim pep and kloop plays an attack minded game and yet concede very few....Nigeria defense is very cool (considering how they hold brazil) and you've midfield that can hold the ball and a very sharp attack then why is rohr always afraid to try an attack minded formation or at least a balanced formation moreover the idea of giving the ball to d oppenent and sit down to break is very primitive many coaches are already aware of this Nigeria should be playing a possessive game Rohr really need to improve on this area Klopp is not an attacking coach but a counter attacking coach |

Arabiandude: Guardiola was playing attacking football at Barca and he was conceeding less than those playing DF. Guardiola and Klop both plays AF at Man City and Liverpool and they both concede lesser goals compares to other English teams that plays DF. Playing AF doesn't equates to conceding more if your tactics is good.
Play attacking football and keep the ball, your opponent won't even see the ball not to talk of scoring you Do you know the people Guardiola plays attacking football with? Can you compare them to Super Eagles? Norwich and Bournemouth also play attacking football if you want a fairer comparism |
