Chelsea star, Eden Hazard, has paid tribute to Cesc Fabregas and wished the outgoing midfielder all the best for the future. Fabregas made what is thought to be his final Chelsea appearance on Saturday, as the Blues beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Spain legend is out of contract at the end of the season and is close to agreeing a deal to join Ligue 1 outfit Monaco in January. An emotional Fabregas missed a penalty against Nottingham Forest, but still received a standing ovation at Stamford Bridge, as he left the field. Asked what Fabregas means to Chelsea following the game, Hazard said: “Everything. In five years I can say that I was lucky to play with him. Since the beginning when he came we won the double together. Top guy on the pitch and off the pitch. A great friend of mine. I just have admiration for this guy. “I hope he will have a good future. He is still a very good player. He will enjoy it.” Source: https://footballnewsupdate.com/hazard-reacts-as-fabregas-is-set-to-leave-chelsea/

Chelsea are reportedly working on a stunning €106million double transfer swoop for Edinson Cavani and Nicolo Barella. The Blues need strengthening this January after a mixed start under Maurizio Sarri, who inherited a struggling squad from Antonio Conte last summer. Cavani looks urgently needed up front after some poor form from Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud which has forced Sarri to play Eden Hazard up front. According to the Express, CFC seem to be working on this by submitting a big-money bid for Paris Saint-Germain star Cavani. The report also links the west London giants with Barella, an exciting young attacking midfielder from Serie A side Cagliari. Both could clearly improve this Chelsea squad, and it may be that they’ll be on their way to Stamford Bridge imminently. Chelsea have also been linked with moves for a new defender this winter, while players like Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill are nearing exits from the club. Tottenham Hotspur must beat another London rival, to reach the Carabao Cup final, after being drawn against Chelsea in the last four on Wednesday. Third-tier Burton Albion will take on holders Manchester City. Tottenham, who defeated North London neighbours Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to reach the semis, have also played London clubs Watford and West Ham in this year’s competition. A very difficult draw, another London derby. “We shall see, Chelsea are a great team but we are excited. To be in the semifinal is fantastic for us,” Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino told Sky Sports. Chelsea booked their spot in the last four with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, thanks to Eden Hazard’s deflected winner. Burton reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history, after Nigel Clough’s side beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on Tuesday. They face the daunting prospect of trying to stop Premier League champions Manchester City, who beat Leicester City on penalties to reach the last four. https://footballnewsupdate.com/carabao-cup-semi-final-draw-revealed/

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has insisted he will not return to Manchester United. Neville harbours mixed emotions over the club’s decision to fire Jose Mourinho as manager and appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis, with a permanent coach to come in during the summer. He has however downplayed his suitability to the club, insisting he does not have ambition to one day return to Old Trafford, with Salford his main focus. Absolutely not. I am not fit for purpose at that football club. I own Salford, a non-league, National League club. I love what we are doing here. Absolutely no way in a million years, one would I ever get employed at Manchester United. And secondly should I be employed at Manchester United, maybe 15 or 20 years time if I go and prove myself as an incredible sporting director, which I am not planning to do. “This needs to be the best in class, internationally. We have to take emotion out of it. ‘Get him back!’ No, get the best people, who have run the best clubs in the world and reset properly,” Neville told The Debate. Chelsea have suspended four fans from attending matches, pending investigations into alleged racist abuse of Raheem Sterling. Cameras captured a group of supporters shouting at Sterling, while he attempted to retrieve the ball, during Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Chelsea have identified the fans involved and four people have been suspended, while the club and the Met continue their investigations into the matter. A statement released by Chelsea on Monday read: “Chelsea Football Club has suspended four people from attending Chelsea matches pending further investigations into allegations regarding the behaviour of supporters towards Raheem Sterling during our match against Manchester City on Saturday. “Our investigations into this matter are ongoing. We are fully supporting the police investigation and any information we gather will be passed on to them. “Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour abhorrent and if there is evidence of ticket holders taking part in any racist behaviour, the club will issue severe sanctions, including bans. “We will also fully support any criminal prosecutions.” Manchester City welcomed Chelsea’s decision to suspend the supporters while investigations continue. A City statement read: “Manchester City FC welcomes Chelsea FC’s decision to issue suspensions to the individuals who verbally abused Raheem Sterling during the match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Club and Raheem are fully engaged with Chelsea FC and the investigating authorities as they continue to examine the events in question. Manchester City and Raheem are committed to working with all relevant parties and organisations to support the objective of eradicating racism from the game.” https://footballnewsupdate.com/chelsea-takes-decision-on-four-supporters-after-raheem-sterling-racial-abuse/ Lalàsticlala

Chelsea are reportedly considering recalling Tammy Abraham from his loan spell at Aston Villa. The 21-year-old has had a hugely impressive spell in the Championship this season, scoring 11 goals in 14 appearances so far, including a stunning four-goal haul in the recent thriller with Nottingham Forest. It’s clear Chelsea could do with more of a threat up front after another poor campaign from Alvaro Morata, while Olivier Giroud looks a decent backup but probably not good enough to lead the line for an entire season. Abraham has only played three games for Chelsea’s first-team, but looks like he could be ready to make the step up, with the Birmingham Mail reporting of the Blues’ interest in bringing him back. They report, however, that Villa hope the initial agreement of taking the England international on loan for the entire season will stand. The Midlands outfit could clearly do well to keep hold of Abraham if they are to have any hopes of winning promotion back to the Premier League. Villa are currently three points adrift of a playoff place, and the Birmingham Mail suggest the club are hopeful that Abraham himself is happy there due to the target of winning promotion and also working alongside CFC legend John Terry to help him in training. Despite the fact that his side continue to languish in seventh place in the Premier League, Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has suggested they could make no new signings in January. The Red Devils have won just six of their 13 league games so far this season, as they remain seven points adrift of the top four while they sit 14 points off the pace set by leaders Man City. With that in mind, coupled with their inconsistency and struggles in Europe too, reinforcements in January would arguably have been expected by many. However, based on Mourinho’s comments below, the Portuguese tactician clearly isn’t confident that he’ll get many new signings, if any, as he suggested that perhaps he’ll get one new face through the door. ”Honestly, I don’t think we are going to sign,” he is quoted as saying by The Express. “If we do, I would say one player. I don’t see us going more than that.” Having conceded 21 goals in those 13 league games so far this season, perhaps a defender will be top of the list to shore up that leaky backline. That gives Man Utd the unwanted record of having the worst defence out of the top 13 sides, with Man City and Liverpool conceding just 10 goals between them to show just how far off United are from where they need to be to contend. Nevertheless, they’ve also struggled scoring goals too, with just 20 in 13 outings. That’s among the lowest tallies in the top half of the standings, and so with all these issues in mind, it makes Mourinho’s suggestion of just one player arriving in January all the more disappointing for Man Utd fans as they surely need more. Tottenham Hotspur will today evening tackle Chelsea at Wembley Stadium in the Premier League fixture. Mauricio Pochettino’s side head to the game following a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in their last match. Spurs have won three of their last seven Premier League meetings with Chelsea. Pochettino will welcome back playmaker, Christian Eriksen, while Moussa Sissoko is expected to start in the midfield for the hosts. Jan Vertonghen is out of action until December, while Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose are also not ready to make a return. Forward, Dele Alli, who has scored five goals in his last four games against Chelsea in all competitions is expected to feature for Spurs. Meanwhile, Chelsea head to the game after playing a goalless draw with Everton in their last game. Apart from midfielder, Mateo Kovacic who has a muscular injury, the Blues manager, Maurizio Sarri has no new injuries worries in his side ahead of the clash. The likes of Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are all expected to start for the visitors in the middle of the park. Sarri will have to decide who to start in the attack line between Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, while Willian and Eden Hazard will start from the flank. Tottenham’s potential starting XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Foyth, Davies; Sissoko, Dier; Lucas, Dele, Eriksen; Kane Chelsea’s potential starting XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Barkley; Willian, Giroud, Hazard The kick-off time for the match is 6:30pm. Barcelona are reportedly considering a move to join the running for the transfer of Chelsea forward Eden Hazard if he’s available for a reasonable price. According to Don Balon, the Catalan giants could be interested in rivalling Real Madrid for the potential Hazard transfer as they look for a decent-value replacement for the struggling Ousmane Dembele. The Blues will be sweating over Hazard’s situation at the moment as the Belgium international will be in the final year of his contract next season. As Don Balon notes, that means he could be on the move for below his true market value in the near future as top clubs seemingly take notice of his situation. With Dembele struggling at the Nou Camp since joining from Borussia Dortmund last season, it makes sense that Barca could be considering a more proven player to come in and provide an upgrade on the inconsistent 21-year-old. Few could argue Hazard looks a major improvement on current form, and it’s rare that players as good as him become available on the cheap. It remains to be seen if Chelsea can prevent any of this by tying him down to a new deal in the coming months. Tottenham midfielder, Christian Eriksen, has confirmed that Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the three best players in the world. Eriksen picks Messi and Ronaldo as the best players in the world while Bale is very close to the five time Ballon D’or winners. Ronaldo and Messi are generally known as the two best players on the planet. Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the Ballon d’Or for the last decade, each winning the award five times. Meanwhile, Eriksen feels Bale should be recognized as the third best player in the world. Eriksen said the Welsh forward is among the three best players in the world. He’s a top, top player, Eriksen told reporters ahead of Denmark clash with Wales this weekend. Nobody in the world is the same as Messi or Ronaldo, but he’s in a group who are very, very close behind them. He has been playing at Real Madrid for a long time now and he has done very well there. Even to ask the question about how he compares to Messi or Ronaldo shows he is up there. Source: https://footballnewsupdate.com/eriksen-name-his-third-best-footballer-after-ronaldo-and-messi/

Danny Welbeck suffered a broken ankle against Sporting CP on Thursday during the Europa League competition last week. Welbeck has undergone a second planned surgery on his broken right ankle, but a scheduled time regarding his return for the North Londoners remains uncertain. The 27-year-old suffered the injury in the Europa League game with Sporting CP, and went under the knife the next day. Coach, Unai Emery said after the 1-1 Premier League draw with Wolves that the striker had indeed suffered a break. The Gunner’s have now confirmed that the 27 year old has had a second procedure and that his rehabilitation will start immediately. Both surgery went well, without further complaints, a statement from the Gunners read. Danny will now recuperate and start his rehabilitation. We don’t know the timeline of the injury, the management confirmed. Welbeck’s immediate future at Arsenal also needs resolving with his deal at The North London club set to expire in the summer of 2019. Prior to his season being halted, Welbeck had impressed under Emery’s stewardship netting five goals in 14 appearances during the 2018-19 campaign. In an effort to ensure that the forward remains part of the group despite his upcoming spell on the sidelines, the club included him in a team meeting before the visit of Wolves on Sunday.
