xaggar: Let me add something quite similar of which those who give in to the "Christmas celebration" can understand.
While Moses was up on the mountain receiving God’s laws, the people were getting anxious down on the plain. Moses spent forty days (Exodus 24:18) up on the mountain with God, and by the end of that time, the people were beginning to think Moses had died or left them. The people urged Aaron, their temporary leader, to make gods for them to follow. Since they were accustomed to having visual representations of gods, this was the natural (but sinful) result of their thinking. Aaron took their gold earrings, which they had brought from Egypt, and melted them down to make a golden idol. The idol he crafted for them was a calf, but Aaron maintained the name of the Lord in connection with it (Exodus 32:5). He was merging the pagan practices they were familiar with and the worship of the God they were just beginning to be re-acquainted with. Aaron called the people together and told them that the golden calf was the god who delivered them from Egypt. The people offered sacrifices and then engaged in pagan rituals, including orgies (Exodus 32:25) to worship this new god.
Why did Aaron do this? Scripture doesn’t give us the full answer, but we can put certain clues together and get a fairly good picture. First, the people’s long familiarity with idol worship would incline them to follow that method in the absence of clear direction otherwise. It is likely that the people had not yet received the commands against idol worship, since Moses was yet to come down with the tablets of the law. Second, they were already in the habit of merging their beliefs with those of the people around them, a practice that would continue to plague them throughout the kingdom years. Third, Aaron was faced with an unruly crowd that placed a demand on him. The solution of making an idol and calling it by God's name seemed fairly reasonable.
Why did he choose a calf/bull? His lame excuse to Moses—“It just came out of the fire like this!” Exodus 32:24)—was just a feeble attempt to dodge blame. He fashioned it with a graving tool (Exodus 32:4) and took great care to form it that way. Some have tried to show that the bull represented one of the gods of Egypt, but that doesn’t fit the text, because Aaron called a feast to the Lord (Yahweh) and said that it was the god(s) which brought them out of the land of Egypt. The bull was a symbol of strength and fertility, and the people were already familiar with bull gods from Egypt. Bulls were also typical animals of sacrifice, so to use their image as a symbol of the god being worshiped was a natural connection. Aaron’s bull was a mixture of the powerful God who delivered the people through mighty works and the pagan methods of worship that were borrowed from the people around them.
Even though there are reasonable explanations for why Aaron and the people began to worship the golden calf, those explanations do not excuse the sin. God certainly held the people accountable for their corruption (Exodus 32:7–10) and was ready to destroy them for their sin. Moses’ personal intercession on behalf of his people saved them. Moses indicated that Aaron at least should have known that his actions were sinful (Exodus 32:21) and didn’t let him off the hook. As with any other sin, the punishment is death, and the only proper response is repentance. Moses called for those who were on the Lord’s side to come stand with him (Exodus 32:26). The Levites stood with him and were commanded to go through the camp and kill anyone who persisted in the idolatry. Three thousand men were killed that day.
The above is all about religious syncretism (blending religious practices). As Christians we should not mix our beliefs with that of the world (we are not a part of the world) no matter how sweet our reason may sound. We do not borrow ideas like we have some churches do; ritualistic repetition of prayers, masquerades in religious ceremonies etc. If I could gv u a mil likes I would. Incredible write up men. |

thorpido: Christmas is not a pagan celebration .In your ignorance, you do not understand what it means to cleanse the old that the new may take over. That Christmas is celebrated on the day THAT USED to be a pagan day of celebration doesn't make the Christmas pagan celebration. Do you know when Jesus died,He died with a body of sin?Yet He resurrected with a new body. Will you say He still had sin in the resurrection since He died with the old body!
You people criticise what you have no understanding of.You have religion but no revelation.
He replied,go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.'" Matt 26:18 Jesus celebrated feasts and festivals. It is not wrong to celebrate Him. No one said feast and festivals are wrong. The man(Freeze) asked a question just answer? Let me rephrase it a bit. If the apostles who were more closer to Jesus than you would ever be didn't celebrate his birthday after his death, then why are you doing so? Its a simple question just answer it without all the unnecessary dramatics |

onosovo: God revealed the birth of christ to the three wise men (which foolish men are still doubting and looking for commands, date) before they believe. It written down in the bible in matt 2 vs 1...... and the Bible recorded that the three wise men celebrated with exceeding great joy because they know and believe what God has given to mankind out of love and humility in a time when a wicked Herod who murdered all male children in attempt to kill Jesus. Did God reveal the birth of Jesus Christ to you? Did he tell you to celebrate it? Or are you a descendant of the three wise men? Its is very clear that chrismas wasn't celebrated by early Christians. If it is so important as you guys think while didn't Paul and co who were closer to Jesus than you will ever be not celebrate his birth? Well done Sir! And the date self is not even correct. If it was correct before then I could even cut you some slack and say carry go. Bur instead it was attached to a day of deep pagan origin that weda you like it or not has corrupted Christmas. When the Bible say light and dark can't mix you guys will not hear. Evil communication corrupts good manners you will not hear. Anyhow don't expect to convince you. So do what you like its your life and your free to live it anyway you want. And same applies to me. |

Christianity Etc › The Tithing Dilemma by Sultan5(op): 8:25am On Dec 13, 2017 |
All this talk about tithing got me curious, so I searched the internet and found this book titled "The Tithing Dilemma" by Dr. Ernest L. Martin. Haven't completely gone through it but pardon me to share the chapter two of this book and also the link to download it. The Real Tithe of the Bible
Tithing is a biblical law. But so is circumcision and so is the sacrificing of animals. Does this mean that Christians today should ritualistically circumcise their children or sacrifice animals because these laws were once ordained in the Bible? Most Christians would not think such Old Testament legislation is obligatory for Christians who live in this age. And the Bible makes it clear that such ritualistic practices are not required any longer.
Tithing, however, has been looked on differently by many people, especially by certain Christian ministers who need a ready money supply to operate their organizations. It is often argued that God still demands tithing and that a person who does not give a tenth of his income for the maintenance of a Christian ministry is stealing from God. [By the way, the word "tithe" is an old English word which simply meant "tenth."] But ministers who use such threats do not have the slightest biblical authority to sustain their dogmatic assertions. The tithing laws of the Bible are no more valid today for Christians than the act of offering animal sacrifices.
Indeed, even if all the legal factors governing the tithing laws were in force today, Christian ministers would still not have any authority from God to use a penny of such tithe for their ministerial functions.Let us face the issue squarely without beating around the bush. The Bible makes it clear (from the time of Moses onward) that Israelites were to pay tithe. But in doing so, they were strictly ordered by God to pay the tithe (the tenth) to one group of people, and one group only. To whom was the tithe to be paid? They were the Levites who (among other things) ministered in the Temple.
Note Numbers 18:21, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service of the tabernacle of the congregation."
It was made abundantly plain that the biblical tithe was to be paid to the tribe of Levi, one of the twelve tribes of ancient Israel. In this initial law of tithing, no one else had the slightest authority to receive that tithe. Even Christ Jesus, while he was teaching on earth, did not use (nor did he demand) a penny of biblical tithe to fund his preaching activities or those of his apostles.
After all, our Lord was descended in an adoptive way from Judah (Hebrews 7:14). He was not a Levite. This made him ineligible to receive any part of the biblical tithe that was ordained for use by the Levites at the time of Moses. For this reason, Christ did not use any tithe money to support his ministry.
The central fact was this: Only members of the tribe of Levi were at first ordained in the Bible to receive the tithe (the tenth). The Levites in turn were to give one tenth of that tithe to the Priests (Numbers 18:25–28) who did not tithe at all. In our modern age, however, even the Levites and Priests are disqualified from receiving any biblical tithe because there is no official body of men functioning as Levites.
Since there is no Temple in existence, there are also no Levites and Priests serving in the Temple. The tithe at first was brought into play by Moses to maintain the service of the Temple. With no Temple, the major factor for tithe paying does not exist as far as the biblical laws of tithing are concerned. For preachers and church leaders to change the direction of paying the tithe from that of the Temple to the service of a Christian ministry is to do so without any authority whatever from God. In fact, to use the tithing laws in a manner not sanctioned by the Word of God is to sin against biblical law. And that is what the preachers, priests and evangelists are doing today.
Let me give a modern example of how they violate the law of God. Now we are told in the Bible to pay all our debts to whom any debt is due. Suppose a person bought a refrigerator from Sears and Roebuck and was of the bills he might write: "I am trading at K-Mart from now on and I will be paying them the remainder of the money I owe you for that refrigerator." Not only would Sears not like that, but they could take the person to court and make him pay off his debt to the party to whom the debt is owed.
It is precisely the same thing in paying the biblical tithe. A person must pay the Levites the debt owed to them, and not to pay it to K-Mart! No one has the right to choose to whom they pay the tithe that God has ordained to be paid to the Levites. Recall that a squabble came up in the time of Moses over who were to be the Priests. Korah and his group felt they had the right to be Priests just like Aaron and his sons, but God made Israel see very plainly that when He chooses people to perform a job and to be paid for it, no other person has the privilege to claim that right (Numbers 16:1–50). Korah and his group found out that God does not like other people usurping the role of his ordained Levitical Priests. It is time that the preachers and evangelists today ought to heed the teaching of this example of Korah and refrain from collecting tithe that belongs to the Levites.
What's your take on this? Below is the link to download the complete book http://www.lightbearerministries.com/files/1513/8222/9923/The_Tithing_Dilemma.pdf |
TV/Movies › Re: Marvel Or DC Movies, Which Do You Prefer? by Sultan5(m): 10:49am On Dec 03, 2017 |
MobilityExpress: Marvel movies right now are far better no doubt, but that’s as best as it gets. But as far as comics and animated cartoons are concerned, till today DC > Marvel. I grew up reading comics and watching loads of hardcore superhero cartoons, not the Tom & Jerry and Sponge Bob types for kids of today !
Let me explain something about Superman to you. In the comic world, Superman holds himself back and uses maybe like 10% of his capabilities when dealing with others in order not to indiscriminately kill anyone and anything in his way with impunity and nobody can bring him to justice. So he always plays cool and limits himself most of the time, always playing Mr Nice Goody-two-shoes. But when you witness the real power of Superman, he’s not just an extraordinary Superhero, he’s almost a god! He killed Darkseid, even Doomsday. In the alternate universe where Superman was evil, only Superman could defeat Superman, nobody else. Superman in his true self has virtually unlimited strength and power, genius intelligence with speed faster than the speed of light - only The Flash in his fastest prime (speed force) can outrun him. In the comic world, Superman bench pressed planets. Do you know the kind of power it takes to bench press one planet alone, talk less of “planets”. Superman lifted Mageddon, which is millions of times heavier than the sun. Another time they tested his strength and he lifted an object that weighed about 200 quintillion tons (= 200 billion billion tons) and he lifted it with only one hand . The evil Superman (aka Ultraman) lifted Book of pages alone, something the good Superman tried to lift and couldn’t. Equal strength, equal abilities but different attitudes, which further proves that Superman (good guy) always holds back. There was a time he got pissed and knocked WonderWoman unconscious with one punch only, the almighty Amazonian Princess . Even Batman always carries Kryptonite with him everywhere he goes just in case Superman ever goes rogue. And Batman is the ultimate standard in the Comicverse. If Batman is afraid of something, then everyone else had better be 1 million times more afraid of that thing because Rule #1 of the Comicverse “BATMAN IS ALWAYS RIGHT”. Rule #2, “The answer is always Batman”
This is the most famous quote from Superman:
“That man won't quit as long as he can still draw a breath [*Superman talking about Batman*]. None of my teammates will. Me [Superman talking about himself]? I've [Superman] got a different problem. I [Superman] feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something, to break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control even for a moment, or someone could die. But you can take it, can't you, big man? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose and show you just how powerful I really am.” Now see the clip below to see a little glimpse of what happens when Superman doesn’t hold himself back :
https://youtube.com/watch?v=zexXH3lS8Uw What if one is able to turn the yellow sun red? Cause I recall in Smallville that this actually happened and superman lost his powers. Same logic was applied on supergirl in arrowverse cross over (crisis on earth x). If this is achieved won't it be possible for anybody to kill superman and hence putting a dent in the claim that only superman can beat superman |

Emary: I have actually, except for Punisher which I'm yet to start. They are good but definitely not as captivating as DC's series. There is something slow paced about many of Marvel's series (Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, for example) and some episodes can be rather dull. Even the Defenders was rather blase. DC tries to keep you on the edge of your seat each week. Well this is where understanding comes into play. All DC series run on a weekly basis hence they need to keep it interesting for people to come back for more. Its the same with all series under this format same has certain MARVEL series like Agents of Shield, the gifted and the likes. But Marvels Netflix series are different seeing that all episodes are released once so they more or less treat these series as very long movies. Theres no need for all the high octane action in every episodes unlike other series which run weekly that need to have this to keep audiences excited. Again these are really like long movies and no movie can get you action through out hence there will be episodes with less epic scenes. This might not be for you but it doesn't mean the series is any less good. Agents of Shield will keep you at the edge of your seat each week because Marvels treat it more like a traditional series than its Netflix counterparts. I mean just look at the first two episodes of the new season released few days ago. It was just epic, its kinda like a mix of guardians of the galaxy with Agents of shield and then with a little addition of time travel its just brilliant can't wait for the next episode. I really hope ghost rider returns in this season although I highly doubt he would but that guy was fun to watch when he is kicking ass. So ma'am I still maintain DC don't rule shit when it comes to series. |

KinzyeWriter: Messi wants international trophy... Messi needs to explore other club except Barcelona as you read in the article.
Pele was hindered for not playing in Europe, but his strength is the 3 world cup he won even though he is not the all time goal scorer.
Maradona has the most tiny weakness, to have played in Europe and won trophies and also a world cup in his international level.
Ronaldo has proven himself in the EPL by winning everything, in sporting, in Madrid, and international level.
Messi on the other hand risen into greatness with great players, and failed bunch of times in the international level... Now he hinders himself for being a one club man..
He is just a Barcelona legend bro You have to understand why Pele is being ridicule for not playing in Europe. Its because Europe is considered to have the best leagues. Messi on the other hand is playing in the best league in Europe and you know what he has dominated it. So what's your point. Its just like you saying he should leave the premier league and go to the championship (i.e the 2nd league in England) to prove himself isn't that ridiculous? He has played against the best in Europe in the champions league and has prove himself there against all other clubs who were dominating their leagues so whats your point. The truth is you guys are just looking for excuses where there isn't one just to pull a great player down. Yes he hasn't been unlucky in international football true, that is his only weakness. And calling him just a Barcelona Legend just shows your contempt for the guy. He is a football legend. Any unbiased football fan will tell you this. Yes it could be argued Ronaldo is better but that doesn't in the slightest take away from the legend that is Messi. Lets try to but sentiments aside and give honor where it is due. |

Apollux: The arrow is pretty good too. I heard supergirl is the one that sucked. But I don't even know about the season 2,if it's out or not. Then Legends of tomorrow, I don't really know where to place that. It's both good and bad. I have seen both DC and Marvel story telling, DC has way more better stories and characters. Arrow was good early on now its just trash. Supergirl that 1 is just a complete disaster. As for the bolded part that's your opinion really cause I actually think the opposite. In series, don't really think any DC character other than Flash really stands out for me. But Marvel you can say the punisher definitely stands out, also Skye, would have included Jessica Jones and Daredevil but The Defenders Series just deemed my enthusiasm for them. I also dig some of the cast of 'The Gifted' And concerning storylines one just has to look at Flash previous season to see how bad a storyline can get, but same can be said of Iron Fist. Gotham also where characters hardly stay dead could be tiresome also. All in all they both have good series and bad ones also just that for me Marvel has more good series than DC. |

And know that you can be the best if only you do the work. There will be things you won't understand so make friends with people who are naturally good. Ask them to put you through and honestly don't let them go until you really understand it. The company you keep is just as important. And don't lose sight of why you are there. Cause it is very easy to as there are many distractions. Like parties, beautiful girls, rap battles, football competition ( I must add this my hostel actually won the football competition #AdenijiHostel #Notime My roommate won best keeper), even religious events also and many more Moro is a really fun place I must say. Then sumed together to get a maximum percentage of 400% which will be divided by 400 times 30 to get your percentage. Its the same for exam just that you multiply it by 70 instead of 30. Pass mark in test is 18% but since you want to go for medicine you should try to get more. The duration for test n exam depends on the subject. For test English and biology is 25mins while physics and chemistry is 40mins |
