The Coalition of Ex-agitators of Niger Delta has said that it is preparing for a “showdown” with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited for allegedly excluding indigenes from the recent award of pipeline maintenance contracts. The ex-militant leaders noted that it was insensitive and provocative for the NNPCL to award pipeline maintenance contracts to only northern companies. The coalition disclosed this in a statement signed by its coordinator, Gershom Gbobo; spokesperson, Chief David Tonye Banigo; national secretary, Johnson Akpobari, and national director, Mobilisation, Goodluck Warikere. “We will never allow such cheating, marginalisation, injustice and insensitivity to occur in this new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”. “Have they awarded any contract in the North to those of us from the Niger Delta? The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it was not informed about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's alleged drug case in the United States before the just concluded 2023 general elections. A United States District Court passed a judgement on Tinubu and ordered him to forfeit $460,000 suspected to be proceeds of the narcotics trade. The event happened while the incumbent Nigerian leader was in the United States. Recall that the Labour Party and its presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, are seeking the removal of President Tinubu from power, alleging some irregularities by INEC during and after the February 25th presidential election. Policemen attached to the Alagbado police command have reportedly shot at drivers protesting illegal increments of taxes by the agberos. About a month after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as winner of the February 25 presidential election, the whereabouts and health condition of the President-elect has continued to generate ripples within his political circle. Although the media managers of the President-elect had hinted that his travel to overseas was for vacation after tiring electioneering campaigns and subsequently Lesser Hajj in Saudia Arabia, informed sources within the ruling APC have revealed that Tinubu’s trip outside the country at this time and tales of his failing health condition are already getting many leaders of the party nervous. Anxiety over Tinubu’s health further heightened when his personal spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, announced on Monday, that the president-elect had directed that prayers should be offered across Lagos in celebration of his 71st birthday anniversary instead of the annual ritual of crowd-pulling colloquium.
