The president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, for an order to access sensitive materials used by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the 2023 presidential election. Tinubu, through his lawyer, Akintola Makinde, said he would need to inspect, scan and make photocopies of some of the electoral materials to enable him to prepare his defence against petitions seeking to nullify his electoral victory. “The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server,” Makinde said. And to think of the billions already spent in the sham election makes it more worrisome. From Businessday; “ INEC has drawn up its budgets to accommodate for exigencies. INEC has put the cost per voter for the 2023 election at an estimate of $5.39, with a target of 100 million registered voters for the election. Using the N565 to $1 parallel market exchange rate, the Commission budgeted N305 billion for the 2023 elections. During the last general elections, INEC spent N189.2 billion. The cost per voter was fixed at $6.24 at an exchange rate of N305, with a total of 84 million registered voters. INEC spent N108.8 billion to conduct the 2015 general elections. The breakdown of the amount per the 68, 833, 476 registered voters translates to N1,749.38 per Nigerian voter, or $8.33 at the exchange rate of N210 per dollar at the time”. |
Why do they want to reconfigure BIVAS?? |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decision to approach the Court of Appeal in Abuja, for an order varying the permission the court had previously granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to inspect materials used by the commission in the conduct of the February 25 presidential election has elicited questions about the integrity of the recently held poll. https://dailypostngr.com/2023/03/inecs-application-to-court-to-reconfigure-bvas-raises-integrity-questions/

Nigeria's President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Monday urged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to stop disturbing public peace. Tinubu made the statement while reacting to the protest held by the PDP at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. He urged Atiku to respect himself and stop following court jesters like Dino Melaye to dance ‘skelewu’ and causing traffic snarls within the nation’s capital, Abuja. Why do they want to reconfigure it? Why is INEC jittery and sweating?? |
There are indications that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has gone to the Court of Appeal seeking to set aside its earlier ruling concerning the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS. A senior official of the commission, who did not want his name mentioned, informed Daily Trust about the development over the weekend in Abuja. They want to reconfigure BVAS before giving access to Peter Obi and Atiku. Recall that the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, had sought and obtained an order from the Court of Appeal to inspect election materials used by the INEC.
