If any of you condemning this had bothered to read the article, you'll see where it is stated every country on the route is responsible for the stretch that passes through their own country. Hence, Nigeria is only (re)constructing or expanding already existing Nigerian roads only.

This include Makurdi-Lafia-Akwanga-Keffi route which links up with Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria routes which are all part of the trans Sahara road. The Lagos-Ibadan-Jebba route is also part of the road.

This is similar to the Nigeria-Cameroon international road which actually starts from Enugu-Abakiliki-Mbok-Ikom and terminates in Yaounde, Cameroon. While Nigeria had focused on the Enugu-Ikom stretch, Cameroon focused on theirs.

Mr Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing says the trans-saharan roads linking Abuja with Algiers in Algeria will be completed in three years.

Fashola said this during a joint inspection visit to the on-going Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Markudi and the Abuja-Kaduna roads which are part of the trans-saharan roads.

The inspection was part of the programme schedule for a 2-day 70th Session of the Trans Sahara Road Liaison Committee (TRLC) which began on Nov. 11 in Abuja.

He said: “ What we are concerned with in this committee is the Lagos to Algiers highway.

“The Lagos-Ibadan-Oyo road, the Jebba-Mokwa-Kaduna-Kano road, and the Abuja-Kano road are the major components.

“`So Mali is doing its own, Algeria is doing its own, Niger is doing its own. Every country is handling their own.

“The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway of 375.9km has three sections and would all be completed within three years,’’ Fashola said.

He added that part of the project which is handled by China Harbour Engineering Compay Limited (CHEC) is the expansion of 5.4km of the Abuja-Keffi Expressway and Dualisation of the Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi road.

The project is located in FCT, Nasarawa and Benue states, with a total length of 227.2km, including the Abuja-Keffi and Keffi-Makurdi sections.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 5.4km Abuja-Keffi section will have two-lane auxiliary roads on both sides of the existing six-lane section.

The 221.8km Keffi-Makurdi section will see an expansion of the existing two-way two-lane section to a two-way four-lane section.

According to Fashola, the main works to be done in the execution of the project include sub-grade, bridge, and culvert, as well as drainage and pavement.

He added that the road would have an electromechanical toll station that would be completed in March 2022.

The Secretary-General of the TRLC, Mr Ayadi Mohammed, said that the inspection of the project provided a good opportunity for the committee members to evaluate the state of the construction of the roads.

According to him, the work the committee members have seen so far is technically sound.

NAN further reports that the roads are expected to serve 37 regions in Africa and connect 74 urban centres as well as 60 million people across the six countries that are members of the committee.

On the local front, the road will pass through Lagos and Ibadan, to Ilorin, Jeba, Kaduna and to Kano where Nigeria shares border with the Republic of Niger.

The committee session holds every four years.

The trans-Saharan road liaison committe is made up of six countries, namely: Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Tunisia, Algeria, and Mali.

The committee was formed in 1966 to establish a road link across the six countries to encourage growth, socio-economic activities, development, cooperation, and trade.

IgbereTV reports that Nnamdi kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), has replied Justice Binta Nyako, the judge presiding over his trial.

Recall that Kanu, who was based in London, UK, was arrested alongside three others on October 14, 2015, in Lagos. The federal government had charged him with treason but Binta Nyako, a judge of the federal high court in Abuja, on May 5, 2017, granted him bail after 18 months in detention on health grounds and adjourned the matter to November.

However, before the adjourned date arrived, Nigerian security forces and Kanu-led IPOB had engaged in various clashes, leading to the disappearance of the group’s leader in September, 2017, after an alleged attack by Nigeria soldiers at his family house in Abia State.

The Nigerian government labelled IPOB a terrorist organization, a tag the U.S, Germany and other countries flawed. The judge has since frowned at Kanu’s disappearance and blamed his sureties for Mr. Kanu jumping bail.

Later pictures of Kanu praying in Israel appeared on social media on October, 2018. The judge who ordered his re-arrested by revoking his bail, said the trial must continue whether he is present or not.

At the resumed hearing on Thursday, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to kanu notified of his client’s intention to return back to the country for his trial.

Mr Ejiofor who said an application to that effect was filed in April and his ripe for hearing, urged the court to restore the revoked bail condition of the IPOB leader to enable him return to the country for the continuation of his trial.

The lawyer also said his client will return immediately if the court could guarantee his safety.

The presiding judge, Justice Nyako, said the court can only guarantee the safety of the IPOB leader if only he is kept in prison.

“Even judges are being abducted in the country. So prison is the only safest place for him,” she said.

Replying, Mr kanu, in turn recommended a prison for the judge and her family members since no where is safe any longer.

He said on Twitter:

“According to Justice Binta Nyako, “Nigeria is NOT safe for anyone, including judges,” Mr kanu said in a tweet Friday afternoon.

“If in her view prison is the safest place to live for Nigerians, I suggest her family move into the nearest one to avoid being abducted. Nigeria is lawless, confirmed!” the secessionist leader added.

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has sacked Senator representing Sokoto South, Abubakar Tambuwal and Member representing Bodinga/Dange Shuni/Tureta Federal Constituency, Aliyu Shehu, both of the All Progressives Congress.

It ordered the return of the PDP candidates Ibrahim Danbaba for senate and Balarabe Kakale for House of Representatives.

The PDP candidates had filed the appeals against the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal which had upheld the elections of Senator Tambuwal and House of Representatives member Aliyu Shehu.

Delivering the judgement Wednesday the judge Federich Oho, said Danbaba and Kakale’s appeals succeeded.
