Please any pregger mum travelled with an infant(below 2 years)? When you paid as lap child did you have to carry her on lap the whole journey? Or if you pay for her own seat do you have to carry a car seat to strap her in it?

So in the spirit of giving back to this wonderful forum, I arrived Phx last week to the glory of God. I flew Emirates with my mom and baby. About six days before the trip, I went to the spa so as to help me relax well in preparation for the long journey. I chose a bassinet seat about 2 weeks before d trip and requested for a wheelchair as ws advised by Phema of life grin, though it wasnt given in my name. They said my kid was too big to be on a wheelchair with me undecided. Got to the airport, cleared with customs and at the check in counter, the emirates staff I met made a fuss about my travel letter. She insisted it should have read ' she is fit to travel BY AIR'. Was delayed for sometime but was later permitted to go board. Smooth flight, got to Dubai and rested in Snoozecube for 5hrs as I had a 7 hr layover. Bed was ok but no bathroom ensuite like UK's version (yotel). Fast forward, landed New York and below was the experience.
Officer: hello
Me : hello
Officer: what brings u to the states today?
Me: vacation and to have my baby.
Officer: Any documentation?
Me: Yes. ( was a bit confused as to which document to present. Eventually presented my notification of travel plans letter to the embassy and my appointment confirmation with Mihs).
Officer: have u paid yet?
Me: No. They don't receive payment upfront.
Officer: How much do you have?
Me: 10k
Officer: how long does the family intend staying?
Me : about 3 months.
Officer: ok . Stamps us in for 6 months. All this lasted 2mins or less.
We go pick our luggage and the guy that was supposed to check our stuff just looked at me for some seconds ( more like a psychologist) and said 'you can go' .No secondary inspection or counting of cash whatsoever.
The flight to phx was just on time. Thanks to everyone here for all info and opinion shared.
My 2 kobo grin Cheers!

Thank God for a safe trip and great experience at POE. Pls am interested in how comfortable the flight was. U choose a bassinet seat for going cos u had a baby? And who finally used the wheelchair?
I intend using emirates too and will be travelling with my toddler so all info u can give will be very helpful. Thanks

I agree, when i went to do mine in abuja i saw one lady that looked like she will soon pop and she was given.
If you can @sisiolu just try one more time. Our prayers are with you. You dont have to wait 90 days

Good Morning

This has really been a value adding thread and a big thanks to all the contributors...

Just popping in to share my wife's POE experience this week. Will give background info..

Visa was secured earlier in the year for dis years vacation and we used it for the vacation in summer (By this time she had taken in). When we got back from vactn, we did some research on hospitals and concluded on Hosuton - WHMC... After further talks, we realised they weren't open to vbac and had to start a fresh search, which got us to elpaso, via doctoresparati.

Bill of almost $9k was given, for vbac, and we paid $4.5k in advance to avoid carrying excess cash and also as proof of willingness to settle all bills.
We also sent an email to the embassy and got the standard response.

Next we started work on flight and accommodation. Houston was avoided for obvious reasons. New York was strongly considered but, as a faith family, we agreed with one mind, that the flight with the least flying tym and connecting flights outside of Houston will be good enough. So we settled on Atlanta (Delta) and booked HisGraceLodge for stay.

Travel Date:
I am not sure aw my sleep went on the night of her travel.. I rmbr dreaming they cancelled the flight route and then took them to heathrow and then to New York.... Lol.

Her POE experience was a total of 10mins of talk. 6mins wt d 1st guy. 4mins wt d 2nd guy.

1st guy's question
Reason for coming / duration / why is hubby not wt her / what does hubby do / what she does in 9ja..
And then the guy did finger prints and said he wld take her to another person to confirm what she has said

2nd guy's question
Have you made any payment to d hospital. (She showed d pymt rcpt), asked if she had cash, (she said yes) How much (she answered - a little below $10k and brought it out of her bag).
He nodded but didn't collect or count. And then stamped her in for 6 months and then told her she could rest and take her tym before leaving d office (what kind of rest is that!,) she got up and left as quickly as possible and headed out to look for waiting area for elpaso flight.

She has had her clinic at elpaso and made the balance payment. And so far, so good, she's happy with the clinic and personnel.

I do hope this inspires someone and I pray for greater favor for everyone... For visa, for smooth POE experience and for safe deliveries. May God grant our heart's desires.

Amen. Great experiences

Hello peeps. I noticed no one has answered my question. I was actually an active member of this thread before the Tsunami and contibuted earnestly to it. One of the first set of people that went to MHIS and stayed at zazu panee. I gave extensive reviews and many people found it useful. I answered so many people's questiions and gave feedbacks but now that I need help, people are ignoring me. Pls if anybody has any suggestions, pls share. I've tried so many times and can't figure what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

Just keep trying their nigerian line as the us own doesnt seem to work. I had problem scheduling too and tried for days to call without success till i found out was a mtn network problem.

Praise be to God. Hubby did his interview in lagos today and got his. He said he was asked what has changed since last month that he was refused he said we were asked for doctors appt letter which i now have. And also his reason for wanting to travel he said vacation and to bring back his family. He was asked if his wife already got a visa.
Said the Vo had refused everyone before him and he was hoping it wont be the lady that will attend to him.
No document was requested for.
We decided to be totally truthful and allow God have His way and He did it for us.

@supamom There is a hotel inside the Dubai airport terminal - you can book a room and catch some hours of sleep without having to go through Dubai immigration. This is what I did when I was going to the US via Dubai 2 years ago.

@GenoMI, thanks for the info. Good to know.
Will be travelling with my daughter who is less than 2 years. Does anyone know if they assign her a seat as am paying for an infant ticket or i have to carry her in my lap?

I used Emirates in june with my son and hubby to DFW via Dubai. It was 6-7 hours to Dubai, had a 19 hours sleepover - hotel room and eatover - breakfast, lunch and dinner ( arranged by Emirates called DUBAICONNECT).

Continued to Dallas DFW - 15 hours ONLY.
Then proceeded to Houston (since thread veterans had warned seriously about Houston POE)

Coming back, it cost me just about $70 dollars to re-route my flight to depart from Houston IAH. Visited Emirates office at Capital One Bank building to do that.

Flight to Dubai from Houston was quite full so we managed with a bassinet. Another 9 hours sleepover and dinner in Dubai.

However I and my baby had 2 seats for the Dubai - Lagos leg of the trip. The men around us were bounced because two of us had babies.

A bassinet was provided as well as i requested for it when i went to re-route my ticket. Baby fare is also about $60.

thanks for sharing. The itineries am seeing on their site is for 7hrs layover and they said they only book hotels wen its over 8hrs. Would have been great to rest in a hotel sha

Hi fellow nairalanders. It is well to those that have had refusals. All i can say is pray and dont give up cos with God all things are possible. Just tot to share my experience. I had my first baby in the us in 2013. She came early and was put in NICU. I told them i was self paying but after insistance from the social worker at tje hospital that my baby was entitled to state aid i let her apply while i paid all my own bills. Fast forward to this year. My hubby went for his visa and was denied that he should go pay his baby bills.
Trying to pay back medicaid was like going tru hell as they didnt even have a record of it in their system. I had to contact the hospital to return the money to whoever paid so i can repay. Finally it was done so i paid back.
I qualified for drop box but decided to reapply with him.

Hello everyone!! This is Phema reporting live from Phoenix, AZ!! grin. How are y'all doing? I don miss una wella kiss. From the newbies to the "question answerers" to the groundnut eaters. grin Sorry I've not been participating actively for awhile now. Didn't have much going anyways, so there wasn't much to say.

Got into Phoenix tuesday night (Phoenix time). Flew BA and POE was Phoenix. Infact, make I start this gist from the beginning. . . grin

I flew from Lag and the experience with those Immigration officers wasn't bad at all. I already prepared not to tip any body, so didn't go with any naira. My big belle was all the "egunje" they needed. I weighed all my bags at home before setting out. So I didn't have any that was past the 23KG limit. I made sure of that. The lady that weighed my bags was surprised both were 23KG on the dot. grin

Then I got to the people that search bags. They were quite courteous and barely searched my bags. One of them helped my take the boxes to the check in counter. Checked in and was asked for my fit to fly. I gave dem a copy and they filed it. I chose my seat online, so i had my boarding pass ready.

We were two preggers that planned our trip together so it was not so exhausting or boring cos we had each other's company. We requested for wheelchair services for Heathrow during check in at MMA1. Didn't even know that could be done. So, the officer included it on our boarding passes. Preggers with layover should try and request for it. It turned out to be a life saver at Heathrow.

Like Tvegas advised, we didn't queue at immigration in Lagos. We used the fast lane and they gave us priority treatment till we got to the boarding gate. Everything went so smoothly without any hassles or delays. All we did was put on our "preggy faces" and behaved like we were going to pass out, or worse still, go into labour if we had the minutest of all hassles. Lol

We boarded at the right time. No delays whatsoever. Got to Heathrow and waited to be driven to the terminal where we would be connecting to the US. While others walked and were asking for direction, all we did was present our boarding passes. The driver knew exactly what to do and where to take us. So we were driven to go sit at a very comfy and warmer place to wait for our connecting flight. The experience was awesome. Everyone gave "wheelchair" passengers priority treatment. We didn't have to bother about sleeping off and missing our flights cos they would always call your name when it's time for you to board. Time came and they drove us to the boarding gate. We didn't join the queue. We were the first set of passengers to board. Yea yea, we are special like that. grin smiley

Now to POE. . .

Pls Phema, how far along were you when you flew?
