Sadly, many here fail to agree with you that Aregbesola is not the problem. The writer is actually insinuating that Aregbesola is the root cause of the ipoor result, which for me is laughable
He contributed majorly to.it with the anarchy he brought into the educational system.

He misplaced his priority in the sector and those misplaced priorities include:

1. School demolition and mergers and the attendant impact on the psychology of those children

2. Same uniform that promoted truancy and indiscipline

3. Teachers not being regularly paid their salaries

4. Opon imo tablet that was just a white elephant project to siphon money without any meaningful value added to those children

One excellent student while the rest are mediocre is something to write home about?

Aregbesola is not the problem, it's the youths. If you check NECO results of 2009, Osun was 35th out of 36th. A preposterous result! So as bad as 29th sounds, it's an improvement. There is a rot in the South West and if we don't do anything about it your future is bleak.

Issues of teacher motivation is not local to Osun. States like Anambra have adopted a good approach with incentives for teachers willing to go into villages.

The reason south east is top ten and will remain top ten is their leaders returned the schools back to the missions and their students embrace learning while ours have lost it. The kids in the SE are extremely smart and will continue to excel while we defend the indefensible.

Only Tinubu had the balls to return all the mission schools back to the original owners. The rest are pandering and sucking up to Muslim leaders while our standards continue to fall. We should all be ashamed.
The highlighted point is very key.

The problem is who will the state govt return the schools to, after demolishing various schools and merging them. Is it the Muslim or Christian or community bodies that used to own the school or they will share the schools equally.

Returning back the schools to th religious bodies and communities will definitely ensure discipline return back to the schools.

Thanks for that salient contribution.

I will be very honest and say this piece is lacking in everything that relates to common sense. So the performance for one year in a state that has been highly rated in education under the same administration now means he is "bastardising education". Even under this same year, if the writer is not aware, Osun still produced the best student in NECO exam nationwide. The article also talks of the quality of teachers which is a nonsense , seeing as Osun as has not sacked teachers that produced great results before.
Are there challenges of motivating those teachers? Yes, because of shortage of funds which is being managed right now. It is only good the writer admits to the building of new standard school buildings which is a crucial as all other factors to educational success.
Please let us be factual in criticisms, there is no bastardisation of education in Osun. Challenges maybe and they have proven to be surmountable
Performance of 1year!!!!!! Are you for real.

Please do the trend analysis in the last 3years and see the progressive downward slide the state is witnessing in education.

Are you for real, which Osun State produced the best student in Neco? Maybe you are talking of Osun State in Western Sahara and not that of Nigeria. Your propaganda and lies is not helping anybody. Tell the world the name of the school and if possible the name of the child with the best result.

Osun did not sack teachers agreed, but are the teachers paid as and when due or they do not have families to take care of. How will such a teacher with half salary per month be motivated to give his or her best to the children? Please, you are not making any sense.

Our only.point of agreement is the school building and also note that they are FG-assisted projects through UBE scheme. If it has been left to this administration, I am 101% sure they will never be completed, just like other projects.

The state did not suddenly face financial challenges. Some people drove the state into that state with their recklessness and unrestricted and dubious borrowings. The question remains, why were the projects for which the monies were borrowed for never completed and the monies have also developed wings? Answer that and get back to me.

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA and senior lawyers in the country, have condemned the recent arrest and continued detention of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Rickey-Tarfa, SAN, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, since Friday without releasing him on bail. Former President of the NBA, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu , SAN, commenting on the issue said; “I think that this is an unfortunate development, a situation where lawyers are arrested in court while performing their lawful duties, this must be condemned in unequivocal terms. However, this is the work of an agency, no government can allow this, especially when you have a senior lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria as the Vice-President, the government will do its best to avoid such things. It is the work of overzealous agents, we will call on the Vice-President to intervene and ensure his release.
“Since the NBA President has intervened, they should release him to NBA President for him to appear on Monday to answer to whatever charges they have against him. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he cannot jump bail, This is utter disregard for the rule of law and the sanctity of the legal profession guaranteed by the Constitution.” Another former President of the NBA, Mr. Joseph Bodunrin Daudu, SAN, said: “ Well, you see, this is what we face with the current EFCC. Let’s get the facts straight, all of us who are defending accused persons are now endangered species, all of us are being investigated by the EFCC, so we are all waiting for the day they will come and carry us.” Reacting, the law firm, Rickey Tarfa &Co. in a statement signed by its Partner and Head of Chambers, Mr. John Olusegun Odubela, said: “It is germane to state that the matter before the court has no bearing with corruption related issue. It is purely between a husband and wife struggling for the control of a manufacturing company they jointly promoted. It is purely a matrimonial issue that went sour.”

I chose to ignore your maggot or whatever you said in your post. I guess you are referring to yourself and your lineage.

You are totally in discordant with the state and shut your mouth if you do not know anything about what you are talking about.

Was Omisore ever the Gov of the state? Oyinlola started the school feeding under the OBJ-led govt pivot school feeding school scheme in 6states. Was the result of students as bad as this?

Aregbe refurbished schools with FG's fund under the UBE scheme as the only project that is gradually being completed. How are we sure if it has been a solely State project, it would have ever been completed, just like the other abandoned projects littering the whole state.

What is the average cost of transportation for school children in the state? Is it not the same #20? What value has the govt added by providing buses that they are paying the same amount as public transport for?

More importantly, how has the buses impacted positively on the results of the children.

The Governor is mortgaging the future of the children, the same way he mortgaged the future of the state an running it into a bankruptcy status. His own children have the best of the best education, whereas children of the downtrodden are being subjugated to be subservient to his own children and that of his cohorts in the future.

See beyond stup1d political party affiliation.

The government is lacklustre & the policies are skewed on the side of unreasonable but have you ever tried to have a conversation with teachers who aren't youth Corp members!

Take a random survey of most these public school teachers, they are almost incapable of expressing themselves intelligibly, what on earth do we then expect them to teach?!

As for Aregbe, he needs divine intervention, he makes policy gaffes on a buy one get one free mode!

The whole country's educational system is bleeped & in need of major restructuring, banking on state governments to do it will achieve moving from zero to nothing!!

They will claim no money & policy constraints & as long as everything still rests with the centre, we need to tackle it from there.

1.We need the Fed govt to implement the abolishment of all these room & parlour insanashional sukuls, they are causing havoc , giving people who don't know better a false sense of fulfillment about what sound education really is & they aren't balanced! No rec & extra curricular facilities.

2. We also need them to penalize schols that employ SSCE "fail outs" as teachers!!!

3. Making teaching attractive, better renumeration, training etc

4. Declare a state of emergency on elementary education because this problem didn't start from secondary, it is from the miming A for Apple (without actually being able to spell the apple) that the gbege starts from!!

PoliticsAregbesola And The Bastardisation Of The Education Of Osun State by Super1Star(op):
Towards the end of the week, the media was agog with scorecard of the states in the National WASSCE Examination. It was heart rendering that my dear Osun State was occupying the 27th position. Even northern states with perennial low cut off marks under the guise of the barbaric Educationally Less Developed States, performed creditably well more than the state. Before the dubious reform of our dear noise making governor, a student of Osun State had the best result in the same examination in 2011, and the state has always performed creditably well in all examinations from time immemorial.

The position of the State is the scorecard of Gov. Aregbesola in the educational sector and a great indictment of his failed policies in the education sector. When he organised the Educational Summit and made the erudite and highly respected Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka the head of the Summit that recommended the demolition and merger of schools, we asked him whether Prof Soyinka was an Educationist or a Literary Icon? Aregbe's sycophants told us Prof Soyinka knows it all. Here we are today with the result of the demolition and school merger. I am sure, Awolowo and Bola Ige will be "very proud" of Aregbesola in their graves.

Most of our grandparents were taught under the mango tree but they had good teachers and that is the reason the English of that generation is impeccable. Will I rather have a gigantic beautiful FG-assisted building (through UBE scheme) without teachers or teachers that are not paid regularly or when being paid they are usually paid half-salary and atimes, quarter salary; than being taught under a mango tree with good and happy teachers? Building are only good for aesthetics, the quality and dedication of the teachers are the ingredients that make the Educational sector vibrant and worthwhile. Mr. Governor will rather have the former and we can all see the result of his actions today.

Instead of the religious leaders to lay emphasis on the quality of education and regular payment of the teachers, they were all fighting for wearing of hijab, cassock or masquerade attire for their wards to school. Can you all see the results of your f00lishness now. Let me break it down for you, in case you do not know the meaning and implications of this. Your children are the ones attending all these water-coloured coated building that the Governor is celebrating, whereas his own children are in private schools, either in Nigeria or anywhere in the world. His children will have access to the best teachers in the world, while yours will have poor teachers or even no teacher at all to teach them. His children will pass their exams because they had good teachers and get ahead of your children in life, not because your children are dummies, but they simply do not have motivated teachers to guide through the process of adequate preparation for the examinations. Indirectly and directly they will be suffering for the stupidity of the religious sentiments and bigotry of their parents. The worst part of it is that all of your children, maybe i should use most of the children and not all, will end up becoming subservient to the children of the Governor and his cohorts, simply because you stood for hijab, sultana, cassock and masquerade attire when a mass rally for the dwindling quality of education should have been organised.

I do not even want to dwell on the failed Opon Imo tablet. This is a project that tax payers fund was merely used to enrich the few. If the fund had been used to purchase physical textbooks for libraries of different schools, state libraries and LG libraries, will it not have been better? Will posterity judge the Governor and his party APC right on this?

Mr. Governor even went ahead to make all the children of public schools in the state to be wearing the same uniform, stating that it will promote equality, as if the bunch of the children going to public schools are not from the same rung of the ladder of the society already. That was the excuse given, but we all know the beneficiary of the contract and the reason while the monopoly of the sale was created for the contractor. The same uniformity of school wear only promoted gross indiscipline, truancy and lawlessness in schools. The result of another not-well-thought-through policy of Mr. Governor is starring all and sundry in the face.

Borrowing money for projects for the state and failing to complete the projects is criminal enough, but dragging the status of the education of the State to that of ELDS is an injustice to the souls of our past heroes that sacrificed to create an enduring legacy by not looting the treasury but rather used the fund to provide quality and free education for all.

The consequences of this mass failure will be seen in 10years time, if these children do not amount to anything in life and they will have no other choice than to take to crimes to make a living. The whole society will bear the brunt of today's actions of Aregbesola and the ignoble silence of the whole state.

Mr. Aregbesola, you still have 2years to reverse the dungeon of failure you are plunging the education of the state into. save the future of this children by giving them quality education and not artificial water-coloured buildings. These children will prefer to be taught under the mango-tree by quality and motivated teachers than being in an aesthetic building without teachers. Your own children had the 2 -- aesthetic building and quality teachers/education. Please give only the latter to these children. That is the only way they will not end up serving your own children in the nearest future, that is the only way they will become somebody in life and that is the only way the society can sleep peacefully in the not too distant future. If you had spent the money you wasted in changing the name of the state to State of Osun, likewise the Government letterheads and signposts, on Education maybe the state will not be occupying the shameful 27th state in the federation.

For the elders in the state and religious leaders, you all need to jettison your political affiliations and religious grandstanding and stand for the future of the children of this state. Parents should also make their wards to see the implications of their failure on their future and the nation.

My one kobo.

Sir, it is 'Nature abhors vacuum'. Stick to your bigotry and stop trying to take a shot at intellectualism. It's a tall order the load of bigotry can never let you reach. My cent!
Nature abhors vacuum only in the land of gully erosion and not anywhere else in the Milky Galaxy.

I don't give a hoot about what you think about me. I gladly destroy igbos on NL and make their days miserable, until they learn to leave out Yorubas out of their shenanigans. We are not your mate. You should be dragging issues with your mates like the koma people and not us.

as usuall talk and talk and talk. The real people that fought the war are out there counting there loses and the usuall talkatives are talking. Let me tell you no northern will be here talking. there are told the real truth but you as usuall your loud mouthed fathers will be telling you tales of the moon light. Go out there ask any northern elder you can find his side ok.
Lol.

Who cares!!!!!! The bottom line you were defeated and conquered and you met your Waterloo at Ore before you capitulated. Adekunle and his commandos finished you off and you finally surrender to another Yoruba man in the name of OBJ.

We have always been your albatross. Deal with it.
