Governors who are members of the new All Progressive Congress (APC) party, say they will position and pride themselves as social democrats, with free education as their leading programme. The 10 governors, who come from the former All Progressive Grand Alliance, the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party and the Congress for Progressive Change, met in Abuja today where they rolled out their programmes under the yet-to-be registered APC. There are 11 opposition governors in Nigeria and all of them, except the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, were present. They are: the Governor Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), (Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Rauf Aregbesola(Osun), Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe) and Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara). Almakura, who spoke on behalf of the governors, said that the programme priorities in the new party will be agricultural development, jobs creation, free education, affordable healthcare, infrastructural development, adequate power supply, eradication of poverty and corruption, and rapid technological advancement and industrialisation. “We shall pride ourselves as social democrats that are committed to organise our society based on the values of justice for all and individual freedom where everyone’s basic needs are fulfilled,” he said. He also announced the formation of Zonal Contact and Mobilisation Committees, which are headed by six of their members. Almakura himself will head that of North-Central; Fayemi, South-West; Yari, North-West; Okorocha, South-East; Geidam, North-East; and Oshiomhole, South-South. Also speaking with reporters, Oshiomhole underlined his commitment to the merger. “I am fully convinced about the need for this merger,” he declared. “There is no question about my conviction and my commitment to the merger.” Okorocha also insisted that although there are problems in his party, APGA, the party was committed to the merger. “Let me say that APGA is in the merger talks. We have our little challenges and we are just trying to sort out about who are the APGA-APGA and who are the APGA-PDP. “But I can tell you that the APGA-APGA (the real APGA) is already in the merger talks. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/apc-governors-implement-free-education-okorocha-confirms-%E2%80%98real-apga%E2%80%99-part-merger |

PointB: And why not. Aint there other credible Igbo men in APC? Is Ngige not there? And has Rochas not join them? Can't they pick any of them?I hear you, believing to reap where and when you haven't sow is robbery. Let APC file candidate from any ethnicity they want, afterall we all know Igbos are still in hot romance with Jonathan AZIKWE who will likely give power to them in 2019, abi?, like i said earlier, i don hear you.The liar is Rochas who entered negotiations with them on behalf of APGA without a nod from his party |
PointB: Rochas joined APC on his own volition, and I certainly cannot hold it against him. But it will do AC.N or APC (whatever their name is these days) some good to stop peddling lies about APGA joining them. Lai should stop lying, merging involves parties not individuals. APGA is not part of the merger (yet), Rochas is.And this same you will ask that APC should file an Igbo presidency candidate, continue fooling yourself https://www.nairaland.com/1191438/ohanaeze-apc-field-igbo-presidential/2#14254762 |

9icest: I dont understand why MASSOB cant be transformed into a political party. It seems these guys have a lot of members, and keep undermining their population. The earlier a better and more educated leader takes the helm of affairs of MASSOB, the better. And for crying out loud, if the Ibos want Biafra, this is the best time they can have it, Nigeria has never been more divided and in a fragile political state unlike now....And why are they attacking oneanother because I dont see anyone stopping them if they are really determined at this point....Im just thinking out loud.[/b]Dont you know Igbos have no leaders? |

[quote author=Demdem]If it was the NASS delaying, known retardeen cocck suckers would have feasted on this thread by now. Hypocrites. Let it be known that the NASS passed the budget weeks ago.won't be surprise if the retardeen will have to constitute a committee to determine if he should sign or not. Budget not signed and the mofo went for Islamic conference. nonsense.[/quote It was actually passed in Dec 10th, almost 2 months now |
take dat: We shouldn't be quick to blame him. The most likely reasons why the budget has not been assented to, is due to NA members padding the budget with over N90billion, mostly for constituency funds and that of pegging a bench mark for the budget! But all the same he should sort it out with the legislatives since his party is in the majority!Well, the guy hasn't come out to say that. |

Opposition members of the House of Representatives have challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to sign the 2013 budget or face an override of his veto by the legislature. The National Assembly passed the 2013 Appropriation Act on December 20, 2012, and subsequently transmitted it to the president for approval. There have been speculations that the president has withdrawn his assent and returned the budget to the House. In a press conference yesterday, the minority lawmakers also threw their weight behind the merger of their parties to create the All Progressives Congress (APC). Members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) , however, disowned the declaration. Leader of the opposition caucus in the Green Chamber, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, called the president to immediately approve the 2013 budget, saying the House was ready to cooperate with him to iron out any contentious issues that might be inherent in the document. “Mr President should quickly sign the 2013 budget and we will work with him on this if there are genuine grey areas. We are already in February and a situation where the legislature will have to override his presidential veto as constitutionally provided is not a good way to start the year or foster a good legislative/executive relationship. If two heads are better than one, 360 heads are better than one,” he said. Flanked by deputy minority leader Hon Abdulrahman Kawu, minority whip Hon Ahmed Datti, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa and other members, the opposition caucus leader described the impending merger as “a true rainbow coalition of colours that will brighten the darkness we have been plunged into as a nation over the past decade.” Meanwhile, a former gubernatorial candidate of APGA in Anambra State and serving member of the House of Representatives, Hon Uche Ekwunife, distanced her party from the merger, saying that members of her party were neither consulted nor were they part of the merger of the opposition parties. Reacting to the presence of the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, a member of APGA, at the merger talks, Ekwunife said he might have joined the talks on personal grounds and in exercise of his freedom to associate with others Leadership Newspaper |

The House of Representatives, on Thursday, declared that the National Assembly had no plan to veto the 2013 budget which it said was still awaiting President Goodluck Jonathan’s assent, but said that it would not hesitate to veto the budget if it was not signed quickly by the Presidency. Does anyone knows why Jona refused to sign this budget, i remember him asking for NASS quick passage? |
The House of Representatives, on Thursday, declared that the National Assembly had no plan to veto the 2013 budget which it said was still awaiting President Goodluck Jonathan’s assent, but said that it would not hesitate to veto the budget if it was not signed quickly by the Presidency. This is coming just as the Minority Leader of the House, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, called on President Jonathan to quickly sign the 2013 budget passed by the National Assembly in December 2012 into law, saying, “we will work with him on this if there are genuine grey areas.” According to him, “we are already in February and a situation where legislature will have to override his Presidential Veto as constitutionally provided is not a good way to start the year or foster a good legislative executive relationship.” Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Honourable Zakari Mohammed, who briefed newsmen in Abuja, however, debunked media reports that the president had refused to sign the budget because of disagreements between the executive and the legislature. According to him,”as far as we are concerned, the budget is still with Mr President. Since 1999, this is the first time that the budget is going through rigorous processes.” The House spokesperson who was responding to a question on whether the National Assembly would veto the budget if he failed to sign it on time, said, “we should not put the cart before the horse. I don’t think we are there now. Mr President has not come to tell us that he will not sign the budget. But we are not afraid if it comes to that level.” He also described as false media reports which suggested that the House and the Senate were in conflict over state creation, saying,”it is a mere speculation, everybody can say whatever he wants, but as far as we are concerned, both chambers of the National Assembly have cordial working relationship. The process of constitutional amendment is very clear. If any of us has issues on constitutional amendment, it should channel it to the proper avenue.” Source: http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/4822-nass-will-veto-2013-budget-if--reps |
