Career / Re: Subsea, Mud, Reservoir, Pipeline, Petroleum, Drilling Engineers & Supervisors Zone by superior3: 6:35pm On Sep 04, 2013
Great thread!!!

Thanks to Dr Ferlie, Okeyz, Devmantic, 27naira and all other posters who have kept this going by your wonderful contributions. I somewhat feel this thread was created for mesmiley.

I have a BSc in Computer Science (2,1) from a Nigerian University, did my NYSC with a major Oil multinational and have been on contract term employment since after service till date. I graduated at age 24, have several IT certifications relevant to my job and bagged an MBA from another Nigerian University in 2007. I presently head my unit of IT in the Oil and Gas multinational, a role previously reserved for expatriates.

In 2010, I discovered my presnet job was showing some signs of blurred career path as so many top shots were leaving to other functions or resigning outrightly from the company and I made up my mind to leave as well. I applied and was offered admission to study MSc Offshore Technology with Subsea Engineering at Cranfield Univeristy, UK. When I mentioned to my then American boss, I was advised not to go as there was no correlation between my present job and the course. I did everything to convince her that I intended switching career but all to no avail. With that kind of stance from a highly respected boss and mentor, coupled with the fact that I had junior ones that needed to be seen through their university education, I declined the offer.

It's been three years since I declined that offer now and nothing has changed on my job -more and more people are still moving to other functions or resigning (although freshers are coming in too), status still remains contract although pay is still relatively good and all my sibblings have now graduated from school which gives me room to take some risks. Besides, I now find the job extremely boring and I survive daily by delegating most of it to my subordinates now, attending only to very critical issues.

I have re-applied for the same course (MSc Offshore Technology with Subsea Engineering) at the same university as I understand it's one of the best for the course in the UK (core Oil & Gas production within the offshore environment is where my passion is now) and have just been re-offered the admission, after being made to go through the entire admission process all over again. The programme is billed to commence in Oct 2014.

It appears my mind is fully made up this time. But considering my present age (41) and my wholly IT background till date as pointed out by my former boss then (even though in an Oil & Gas producing firm), does anyone have any advice for me regarding this move?

Looking forward to your great responses as usualsmiley.

My brother, the constitutionality or legality of the Amachree's impeachment is an issue for the court to decide.

Evans Bipi remains the authentic speaker of rivers house until a court of competent jurisdiction says otherwise.

I urge the former speaker Hon. Amachree to take the matter to court as a democrats that he portrays himself as.

Meanwhile, Amechi is a man, a governor and a Riverian. He is entitled to every right and privileges that the constitution accords him, by virtue of his office.

BUT, whatever misdeeds he incurs while exercising or enjoying these privileges, he should account for once the wheel comes to a grinding halt.

God is great.

One NIGERIA.

1000 billion gbams,
When that man described women indirectly as domestic appendage, I lost total respect for him. Even a fool wouldnot descend so low as using derogatory remarks against women. He didn't know that by extension he was refering to wives of everyone in position and by extension, wives of every Nigerian as mere domestic appendages.....no wonder he had 3 divorces....Good riddance to bad rubbish
Texas.cowgirl, over to you
Let's not get things twisted. Referring to PEJ as a "mere domestic appendage to power" simply means PEJ is not the constitutionally elected person. If PEJ was the president and GEJ the husband of the president, it would be 100% correct to refer to GEJ as a "domestic appendage to power". Would that have meant that all men were domestic appendages?

emmasege: If the opposition are sincere about amaechi's cause, let them give him the 2015 ticket in APC and let him test his popularity against GEJ. It is then i will know they truly love the man, not by giving him VP (spare tyre) slot o!
Na from "spare tyre" GEJ become the main tyre o. Person wey see something pick for ground wey wan die with am, what of person wey originally get the missing item?

Their INABILITY TO SCALE THROUGH Shell recruitment exam.
The Shell recruitment exams are usually leaked to the children of the high and mighty in the society leaving the graduates from the community to appear they are not able to pass the exams.

What if your neighbour harbours a paedophile unknown to you? Your children could easily be molested and abused if left unchecked. Visits to neighbours by kids should be moderated and supervised by their parents.

With Al-Mustapha's release, I'm now confident that power will return to the North in 2015 PEACEFULLY! GEJ has shot himself on the leg and there's nothing all the Asaris of this world can do to save him.

Stupid!!! Was Nastrodemus a prophet before he predicted happenings in the world centuries before? Was Newton a prophet when he made electricity? Was Faraday a prophet when he made an object to fly?

We all have different gifts. Gift of foresight, of knowledge, of peace. All natural gift. Because a man is able to predict the future does not qualify him a prophet.

Finally, not every pastor performing signs and wonders is a true prophet or man of God!
I can't rememeber who once said "to leave an error unrefuted is to encourage intellectual immorality". So, on that premise, I will correct some obvious errors in your assertions above for posterity sake.
1. Isaac Newton did not invent electricity, Michael Faraday did.
2. Michael Faraday did not invent the Aeroplane, the Wright brothers did.

God bless you o my brother. The new definition of arrogance in Nigeria now is "when a Governor refuses to share the commomwealth of the state among a few shameless pple but rather channel it to the general developmental good of the state".[b]
size38: As a Rivers man, I support Amaechi 100%. I have asked my frnds d crime of Amaechi an non has given any good reasons. All we hear is Amaechi is arrogant. He is arrogant how? No answer. Infact, no explanation from them. Any person in tune wit what is happening in Rivers state will understand that Amaechi has taken enough insult from d wife of d President. There are countless of occasions where GEJ's wife has insulted Amaechi in public. A case in point was when GEJ's wife dragged a mic from Amaechi while making public speech in port harcourt. We all are witness to that. D arrogance of GEJ's wife will be d downfall of GEJ if time is not taken. We are watching and God is also watching.

My advice to Hon. Michael Chinda and the 4 other renegade lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly: Next time, before planning or orchestrating any evil, just ask yourselves: What if this boomerangs?
I wish Hon. Michael China speedy recovery all the same.
