APC primaries: We’re ready to accept defeat - Atiku. Former Vice President and All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar has said that he would graciously accept defeat if he loses tomorrow’s primary election. Speaking through the director general of his campaign organisation, Babalola Aborisade, Atiku said he entertained no fear as his campaign team has worked hard to win tomorrow’s poll, adding that should he lose to any other aspirant, he would accept defeat. Aborisade told journalists in Lagos, yesterday, that Atiku has so far visited 35 states where he met the party’s delegates to the national convention who assured him of their support. Asked if Atiku would remain in APC if he failed to pick the presidential ticket, Aborisade said: “Regardless of who wins, Atiku will remain in APC. “Atiku is going to stay put even if he loses the primary. Our objective is to have a strong party that can beat PDP, and we have built structures around to ensure whoever emerges at the end of the day gains the support of all other party leaders. We have about 65 to 70 per cent assurance that we will win the election as nothing has changed.” Aborisade added that the campaign organisation has secured hotel accommodation for 4,000 out of the about 8,000 delegates that will participate in tomorrow’s convention, adding that the gesture was to ensure that the delegates are comfortable during the convention. He said delegates from Lagos and Osun states may not be allowed to vote at the convention due to some irregularities in the lists of the delegates they submitted. by Kayode Ekundayo. https:///7ZsNcjdXB

In Oyo State, former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, emerged as the PDP governorship candidate. Some aspirants boycotted the event, claiming “it is illegal”. Out of the seven aspirants who attended the primaries, only three contested against Senator Folarin, who won with 167 votes while two others abstained. Some of the main contenders like the former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao Akala and Seyi Makinde were absent from the primaries. http://www.channelstv.com/2014/12/08/pdp-primaries-wike-folarin-others-win-governorship-tickets/

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho has backed Chelsea players to bounce back from their First defeat of the season, he also stated that they are the best team around. Excerpts below... Papiss Cisse scored twice, as Newcastle inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the Blues on Saturday, ending any hopes of an unbeaten campaign. Mourinho, who blamed Newcastle’s ball boys after the match, also claimed everyone else was envious of their league status. “We are top of the league,” he said. “Nobody has done better than us. Everyone would like to be in our position. So we are more than fine. We are better than anybody else.” “I will back them [the players] to bounce back. For people like me who have been in football for so long, you have to accept this anomaly. “To come here and be better than our opponents and lose, that is football. “I don’t say my team is the best, I say my team is top of the league and, at this moment, nobody has the same points we have. Because of that, at the moment we’re the best team in the Premier League.” Mourinho also added that his players were “accepting the defeat as part of the game” saying they had “tried everything, were unlucky and are not happy with that.” http://www.naijachisel.com/2014/12/exclusive-chelsea-are-better-than.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed&m=1

Photo Credit:Sahara Reporters Media A former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, widely accused of sponsoring Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria, may be lobbying for the release of the Chad-bound cargo aircraft confiscated in Kano for transporting large consignment of military hardware, PREMIUM TIMES can report today. Sources at the Aminu Kano International Airport, where the plane is currently detained, said Mr. Sheriff visited the Kano airport at about 10 p.m. on Saturday and held discussions with some officials on the possibility of releasing the aircraft. Our sources said on arriving the airport, officials allowed the former governor a secret tour of the aircraft, during which he inspected its consignments. “I was there and I saw him and two airport security officials accompanying him to inspect the plane. I saw the black helicopters and two bullet proof SUVs,” one of our sources said. “I also heard him (Mr. Sheriff) say verbal directive had been given from Abuja for the release of the plane but that authorities of the airport were insisting on written directive.” Mr. Sheriff could not be reached to comment for this story. His known mobile telephone number was switched off for several hours that PREMIUM TIMES called Saturday. He is also yet to reply a text message sent to him. The Manager of the Kano Airport, a Mr. Adamu, told PREMIUM TIMES he is in Abuja and was therefore unaware of Mr. Sheriff’s tour of the detained aircraft. The former Borno governor is a close ally of both the Nigerian president, and the government of Chad – the plane’s final destination. A 2010 Intelligence report by a Nigerian security agency suggested that Mr. Sheriff was personally involved in the recruitment, training and dispatch of Boko Haram fighters, under the full cover of Idris Deby, the Chadian president. Chad is Nigeria’s neighbour. Laying on Nigeria’s northeast shoulder, and sharing long distances of unregulated borders, it is considered a window to safety for Boko Haram fighters. An Australian negotiator engaged by the Nigerian government to bring Boko Haram insurgents to the negotiation table, Stephen Davies, also spoke of how the insurgents named Mr. Sheriff as one of their sponsors during his conversations with the terrorists. Airport officials told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Sheriff’s verbal pressures to let the plane go was turned down. He was asked to get written permission from “ogas at the top” – authority high up in Abuja – our sources said. After inspecting the plane and holding discussions with local officials, Mr. Sheriff reportedly left for Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, in a private jet at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Security operatives at the Kano Airport had seized the plane when it landed at the facility at about 2a.m. Saturday as a result of technical problems. Crew members of the airplane were immediately detained while investigations continued, officials said. “Security has since been beefed up at the airport in order to ensure proper investigation,” the officials added. The General Manager, Communications, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Yakubu Datti, confirmed the seizure of the plane. He said the pilot sought permission to land at the airport after the plane developed problems. “The plane had a technical problem and the pilot sought (for) permission to land at the airport’’, he said. Mr. Datti said security agencies had since commenced investigation into the matter. Security sources told PREMIUM TIMES the plane was travelling to N’djamena, the capital of Chad. PR Nigeria, an agency known for distributing press statements on behalf of the Nigerian military, later circulated a statement saying the aircraft contained “a chopper tucked in it”. “… Intense investigation is ongoing including using diplomatic means to unravel the mission of the aircraft, its origin and destination,” the statement said. This is the third time since 2009 that planes loaded with arms would be arrested in Kano, our correspondent says. The detained planes were later released after investigations. The destination of the latest aircraft has however raised concerns amid increasing worries in Nigeria over Chad’s alleged role in the Boko Haram insurgency plaguing Nigeria’s northeast. The plane and its consignment was initially thought to originate from Russia but the Russian Embassy in Abuja issued a statement denying ownership of the AH-124-100 heavy military transport aircraft. Air cargo experts describe it as one of the biggest serial and strategic heavy lifters in the world. It is intended for the transportation of heavy and oversized cargo and various special-purpose vehicles. Although in commercial use too, the Russian military is beloved to own 14 of the AN-124-100 version of the jumbo cargo jet, manufactured by the Russian Antonov. Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, has denied the viral reports that her husband was recently beaten to a pulp. It was alleged that her hotelier husband, Lanre, was recently beaten mercilessly by a governor’s aide on November 26 at his hotel premises in Ikeja, Lagos. It was alleged that the governor’s aide had rented an apartment from Lanre only to find out after payment that the same house had been rented to a popular gospel singer. The actress told Punch When I saw the story online, I was laughing because I believe it is the work of some jobless set of people. I see them as joy killers and I don’t know where such a story would have emanated from. They are all lies; the stories were fabricated. Who would beat up my husband? Why? Somebody drew my attention to it and when I saw it, I was shocked because there is no iota of truth in that story. People will always talk. Even if he has problem with somebody, I am sure they would resolve it; it is business. I don’t think they would resort to physically assaulting themselves. I am sure the person in question is a mature person as my husband. There was never any fracas between my husband and anybody, so I don’t know why people would cook up such stories about him. She continued Most times I pity my husband because I know those stories get to him. I know that those stories are generated because he is married to an actress. When false stories are written about me, they do not bother me but because my husband does not really know about our profession, he has not developed a thick skin and he feels bad reading all these false stories about him. I always have to soothe him and I tell him to take it as a sacrifice for being married to an actress. He does not transfer the aggression towards me, neither does he regret marrying an actress. He loves me hundred per cent. “When you are popular, if you have the slightest misunderstanding with anybody, they would run to the press to rubbish the person’s image. Maybe some people have scores to settle with my husband because the stories are becoming too consistent. I would just say that if anyone has a grudge against my husband, they should voice out so that it can be settled amicably, http://infotainmentnaija..com/2014/12/my-husband-doesnt-really-know-about-my.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&m=1

US stars, especially black American celebrities have lent their voices to the fight against the recent killing of unarmed blacks by policemen..It all started with the death of Micheal Brown who was killed in Ferguson by a cop who ended up not being indicted .. He reportedly raised his hands saying "Don't shoot"..That sign has become a symbol of the fight and protests in Ferguson.. Davido is probably the first Nigerian celebrity to join the movement .. http://infotainmentnaija..com/2014/12/davido-joins-ferguson-dont-shoot.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&m=1
