EducationSupers List! Top 5 Slang Words In Nigeria In 2022 by Supers(op): 3:24am On Jan 10, 2023
From Supers.ng

Different nations and cultures have their respective slangs used by both young and aging in schools, workplaces, homes, and even religious centres.

Nigeria, as a country, is one never short of these slangs, especially since the advent of social media.

2022 has indeed been one ‘huge’ year of slangs trending among online users and taken to the streets and social places.

Here are, however, the top 5 most used slangs this year

God abeg
The phrase “God Abeg” is a plea to God in the Nigerian Pidgin language which means ‘please God’.

Nigerian singer Portable made the slang known among Twitter users more than other social media platforms with a video of a sneak peek of a yet-to-be-released song at the time “money before you love (God abeg)”.

Dey play
When the phrase “dey play” is in use, it means to continue wasting your time and not focus on things supposed to be accomplished.

The phrase originated from a TikTok user from Edo state, flaunting his newly acquired house and car on video repeatedly saying “Just de play” ironically mocking his followers to keep wasting their time on unnecessary things.

Shey you dey whine me ni
‘Shey you dey whine me ni’ isn’t completely a new slang used by Nigerians but trended pretty well this year on the internet.

The slang has different meanings but can be said to mean, hope you aren’t playing or messing with me?

It became trendy after the chorus of the Gospel song “shey you dey whine me ni” by Austine Emmanuel also known as Austine de Bull broke its way onto Twitter. It was always accompanied by a video of Austine dancing with choreographers chanting “shey you dey whine me ni.”

Otiloh
The slang followed the release of Poco Lee’s ‘Otilo (izz gone) featuring Hotkid. The slang is a Yoruba word that means it is gone.

Trenches
Trenches is normally an English word that means a narrow channel dug into the ground but Nigerians somehow managed to change its meaning into a neighborhood that is poorly managed and is accumulated by poor people.

InvestmentWhat Almost Finished Your Money In 2022? by Supers(op): 10:39pm On Jan 04, 2023
Supers.ng

We are going to discuss about the top three expenses that almost finished our money last year.
In this article, I’ll be sharing the three expenses that almost drained my bank account and what I learned from the experience. So, let’s get started!

Last year was a tough financial year for me. There were several things that almost finished my money, but the three biggest expenses were Bole, data subscription, and airtime.

It shall be well with the person that introduce BOLE to the world, especially Rivers state kind of Bole. Too sweet. I couldn’t save throughout last year because of it.

Data subscription was another significant expense. With the increasing reliance on the internet for work, school, and entertainment, my data usage skyrockted. I ended up having to pay for multiple data plans to keep up with my needs, which really added up.

Lastly, airtime was a major expense for me. Between phone calls, texting, and mobile data usage, I found myself constantly topping up my phone credit. These small, frequent purchases really added up and took a toll on my wallet.

Overall, Bole, data subscription, and airtime were the three main expenses that almost finished my money last year. While they are all necessary expenses in today’s world, I learned the importance of budgeting and being mindful of my spending habits.

Education10 Songs That Dominated In The Year 2022 by Supers(op): 10:27pm On Jan 04, 2023
Supers.ng

Here are the top 10 songs, we believed dominated the most in the year 2022.

1. Kizz Daniel ft Tekno – Buga

“Don’t sleep, Don’t sleep. Wake up wake up”, Kizz Daniel’s “Buga” featuring Tekno was in everybody’s mouth in the year 2022.
The song “Buga,” which in Yoruba means “show off,” exudes sophistication in both its structure and lyrics.

Despite this, Buga continues to generate buzz across all social media and streaming services.

With over 100 million views on Youtube, Kizz Daniel made sure to show up with one of his trademark dance moves.

2. Burna Boy – Last Last

Rolling Stone named “Last Last” the top Afrobeats song of 2022 on December 28. The song has broken many records and numbers since its release and currently stands at Burna Boy‘s biggest record.

This heartbroken hymn is not just understandable in a time when finding love seems to be a losing endeavor, but it is also a very excellent song.

Burna Boy uses the phrase “everyone go chop breakfast” from pop culture in his song “Last Last” to provide a fresh take on heartbreak. He takes a less emotive and more logical stance in this song.

The record samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 R&B hit “He Wasn’t Man Enough”.

3. Rema – Calm Down

Rema‘s debut album, Rave & Roses, was made available in March of the previous year. London and Andre Vibez‘s guitar-driven, mid-tempo song “Calm Down,” which serves as the album’s debut single, was also made available.
The majority of us found all the solace we needed in Rema‘s calm vocals and clever words on “Calm Down,” which helped us get through the rollercoaster that was 2022.

This song held listeners’ attention and captivated them from March 2022 till the end of the year. The song’s incredible success allowed for a global remix with Selena Gomez, and Rema gained his first Billboard Hot 100 entry as a result.

The original visual has over 300 million views on Youtube and the remix with over 200 million views.

4. Asake Ft. Burna Boy – Sungba (Remix)

Ololade mi Asake from the YBNL camp, delivered an outstanding remix of the song “Sungba” with Grammy Award winner Burna Boy.

The remix is quickly becoming popular on social media and in public. This follows the original song’s commercial success.

The second song on his EP, Ololade Asake, featuring appearances from Burna Boy was titled “Sungba“. Like every other street song, Sungba is infectious and has unpolished lyrics. It often asks a woman to be less shy because he has the means to take care of her and, in exchange, she must “Sungbalaja.”

Due to the addition of the African Giant, Sungba undoubtedly has all the ginger we could possibly want. The song went ahead to be one of the biggest song in 2022.
Ft. BNXN – Finesse

Pheelz, Mr. Producer and BNXN, Finesse produced not just a song in “Finesse” but an anthem.

Ever since Pheelz and Buju released this song, it has been living rent-free in our thoughts.

Everyone on social media was instantly fascinated by the song Finesse. In fact, you might be praying one moment and singing “If I Broke Na My Business In Your Subconscious” the next.
It was bizarre.

6. Oxlade – “Ku Lo Sa”

Oxlade‘s “Ku Lo Sa” was initially merely a performance record on the music platform, Colours Show and was never a song Oxlade thought would go viral.

However, the song had accomplished the unheard-of for a Nigerian song and a Colors Studio performance, taking off on its own to develop into a worldwide success while simultaneously growing strong roots in Nigeria.

While the TikTok challenge itself has nearly half a billion videos and a related filter, the Colors Show performance video of “Ku Lo Sa” currently has 56 million views.

Education5 Things Your Parent Didn’t Teach You As A Kid About Life by Supers(op): 9:38pm On Jan 04, 2023
https://supers.ng

As kids, we rely on our parents to teach us the basic skills we need to navigate the world.
They teach us how to tie our shoes, how to ride a bike, and how to behave in social situations. But as we grow up, we realize that there are many things our parents didn’t teach us – things that we only learn through experience.

Here are a few things our parents didn’t teach us as kids about life:

How To Manage Our Finances
Most of us aren’t taught how to budget, save, invest, or pay bills until we are out on our own.

It’s a hard lesson to learn, and many of us struggle with money management as adults.

Sure, our parents may have taught us how to make a few basic meals, but for the most part, we are left to figure out how to feed ourselves as adults.

Cooking is an important life skill, and it’s one that many of us wish we had learned at a younger age.

How To Deal With Failure
In school, we are taught to strive for success, but we aren’t always taught how to cope with failure.

As adults, we will inevitably face setbacks and disappointments, and it’s important to learn how to pick ourselves up and move on.

How To Maintain Healthy Relationships
Our parents may have taught us how to be polite and kind, but they probably didn’t teach us how to communicate effectively or resolve conflicts in our relationships.

These are skills that we have to learn on our own as we navigate the ups and downs of adult relationships.

How To Take Care Of Ourselves
As kids, our parents take care of us – they make sure we are clean, fed, and clothed. But as adults, we are responsible for our own self-care.

This means learning how to manage our mental and physical health, and taking the time to do things that nourish our bodies and minds.

In conclusion, while our parents do their best to prepare us for adult life, there are many things they just can’t teach us. It’s up to us to learn and grow as we navigate the ups and downs of life on our own.

SportsLiverpool's First-team Player Ruled Out For Weeks by Supers(op): 9:27pm On Jan 04, 2023
www.supers.ng

Jurgen Klopp can not seem to catch a break from the injury worries that have been hitting Liverpool since the start of this season.

The latest player to be named on the Red's injury list is its top defender, Virgil Van Dijk. The Netherlands man picked up a knock in the first of the 3-1 defeat against Brentford at the community stadium on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.

It did not seem like a big issue after he was substituted in the game but according to Klopp, the player is expected to undergo a check-up. Van Dijk is now due to have a scan to check out the full extent of the damage but either way, this is going to be a big blow for Klopp.

Virgil felt a little bit his muscle, but he said he's fine and he's a very good judge of these things. I didn't want to take any risk. The physios looked quite happy when I said I didn't want to take a risk. It's not an injury, he just felt the intensity.

Matip is expected to take his place in the absence of Van Dijk.

CelebritiesWike Mocks Atiku Over Obasanjo’s Endorsement Of Obi by Supers(op): 8:18pm On Jan 03, 2023
From supers.ng

Governor Nyesom Wike has mocked Atiku Abubakar over former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

Atiku was vice president during the Obasanjo administration between 1999-2007. But on Sunday, the former Nigerian president recommended Obi for the country’s number one seat next year, a move the Rivers State Governor said means “there is something fundamentally wrong”.

“I was praying that Obasanjo should not say anything. When I saw the letter last night, I was touched. If your principal cannot recommend you, then there is something fundamentally wrong,” Wike said on Monday at the flag-off of the construction of Akpabu-Odido Road in Emohua and Ahoada West local government areas.

Celebrities9 Nigerian Artists Whose Scandal Made Headlines In 2022 by Supers(op): 7:53pm On Jan 03, 2023
From supers.ng

The year 2022 was filled with a variety of trending topics from Nigerian artists who made headlines due to one scandal or the other.

No matter how hard Nigerian musicians try, scandal always seems to find them; this is due to the nosy eyes of fans and anti-fans.

One might even be pushed to remark that is the cost of being a public figure.

Most often, the news is about their personal lives, relationships, businesses, and families, which causes a lot of drama, confrontations, and arguments between fans and critics.

In 2022, a few Nigerian musicians gained notoriety for entirely wrong reasons. In this article, Mp3bullet.ng has assembled a list of Nigerian artists who gained notoriety for their particular scandal in 2022.

1. Oxlade

Oxlade made headlines after his sex clip went viral on the internet on February 9th, 2022.

The video was leaked on Tuesday night via the social media platform Snapchat. Since the video went viral, internet users have lauded the musician for his ‘relational’ skills.

Although the girl implicated in the controversy has now demanded justice, claiming that her life has come to a halt while the singer moved on smoothly.

2. Timaya

Timaya was detained in March after a woman by the name of Omawumi called him out on Instagram for running over her sister with his car and seriously injuring her.

On a Thursday morning, armed police officers stormed into the musician’s home and took him away.
On a Thursday morning, armed police officers stormed into the musician’s home and took him away.

In the viral footage, the singer can be seen explaining to the police what happened during the suspected hit-and-run event before being taken away a little while later.

Omawumi claims that the reason the controversial artist was detained was that the victim questioned him for destroying her car and he purposefully rammed into her.

3. Portable

This controversial Nigerian musician gained notoriety after YBNL leader Olamide featured him in one of his songs. Even a year later, the Zazu Zeh crooner has continued to get attention, defying expectations that his rise to popularity would be fleeting.

The street-hop musician has garnered media attention for a variety of controversial topics, including his disagreements with many of his backers.

He made waves online when he posted a video in which he claimed to have founded the infamous One-Million Boys cult before retracting his claim.

He also gained headlines online after threatening whoever won the 2022 Headies award over him despite receiving two nominations.

The contentious musician claims that his song “Zazuu Zeh” is much more well-liked than the other tracks on the list. In addition, Portable asserted that he was more well-known on the street than his fellow nominees. He was eventually disqualified by the Organizers.

He also made news when a video of him attacking his signee, Manny Monie went viral.

4. BNXN

BNXN Purchases A Brand New Mercedes Benz Worth Millions

In August, BNXN encountered his most controversial moment and joined the list of artists who had their s*xtape leaked.

A Swedish woman named Filma, who was allegedly the singer’s girlfriend, was reportedly seen in a bedroom with him in a video that went viral online.

Unverified rumours claim that she became pregnant for him and sought to come clean about their relationship, but he tried to quiet her.

While the video wasn’t as damning as Oxlade’s, it still made headlines as the singer had a girlfriend, Peggy.

5. Sammie Okpsoso

Late Gospel Artist, Sammie Okposo in January shocked the world when he took to Instagram to apologize to his wife, family, friends, and fans for his act of infidelity.

CelebritiesSupers List! 15 Best Albums And Eps Of 2022, No 1 Will Shock You by Supers(op): 5:54am On Dec 31, 2022
From Supers.ng

When music observers and lovers that pay close watch to the growth of Nigerian music look back at 2022, it will be described as the year where the gates of international progression were significantly flung wider apart, with Afrobeats acts and their records notching wins and making statements greater than even some of their international counterparts. However, beyond the year of seismic smash hits and viral Tiktok challenges tucked under the Nigerian music industry’s belt, the power strides of the scene were backed locally by top-notch albums and EPs. With this in mind, the SUPERS staff community came together to rank the 15 best albums and EPs of the year judging by sonic and thematic quality, thematic diversity, cohesion, replay value and resonance.

Here are the 15 best albums and EPs of 2022:

15. Riddim 5 EP- Fave

Going against the typically unspoken calendar of the music scene which tends to spot minimal activity till the end of the first quarter of the year, Fave put out her debut project on the 20th of January. Despite her smash hit “Baby Riddim” already bringing in the ringer, Fave had not rested on her oars, delivering a 5-track EP that was not only soothing and hypnotic with songs like “Obsessed” but featured a refreshingly different perspective on what it is for a woman to navigate love in these times and climes– “Mr Man”.

With these factors and notwithstanding its early release, the gravelly-voiced singer was also able to withstand recency bias to notch the 15th spot on our list of best projects of the year with her Riddim 5 EP.

14. More Love Less Ego- Wizkid

Over time, Wizkid has earned him a near-endless list of praise epithets and has despite the seemingly polarising reviews of his More Love, Less Ego album, been able to with it, maintain these adulations as one of the greatest singers of his Nigerian generation.

Released on the 11th of November– a few days after
the second anniversary of what some consider to be the piece de resistance of his discography– Made In Lagos, Wizkid’s 5th studio album had as expected featured star-studded features with a selection flung far and wide, spanning countries and generations to consist of Jamaican Shenseea, Nigerian Gen-Z popstar, Ayra Starr, American rapper, Don Toliver, British-Nigerian Skepta among others. However, what no one had seen coming had been Wizkid’s application of his musical skills, going solo on 9 of 13 tracks with themes of love and affluence in hand to offer a versatile and heady sprawl from “2 Sugar”, to “Slip N Slide”, “Pressure” and “Frames (Who’s Gonna Know)”, which especially saw the singer sing like never before.

13. Ethos- AQ & Brymo

If the general consensus is that Nigerian hip-hop is dead, the underlying reality remains that it’s not from a lack of trying on the rappers’ parts and Ethos by A-Q and Brymo is prime example.

On the 10-track album, a relatively novel and mellifluous fusion of hip-hop and alternative sounds is brought to life with musings on love, life, socio-political issues, and family with A-Q expertly receiving the baton of Brymo’s rousing vocals with equally-charged and poignant bars to deliver a resounding body of work.

In a pool of talented singers, BNXN’s cadence cuts across differently with the bounce, flow and panache of a rapper backed by melodies that either dunk you in your feels or lift you off your feet. This and more are evident on his Bad Since ’97 EP.

A 7-track sophomore affair, the project sees the singer defy the concept of a sophomore slump to attain new levels of his artistry while holding his own beside OGs like Wande Coal on Kenkele, Wizkid on Many Ways and Olamide on Modupe. In fact, for most listeners and lovers of the singer’s output, their critique remains that BNXN should have extended the extended play (EP), to instead deliver an album.

11. Ololade Asake- Asake

Years from now, while music observers go over the global growth of Afrobeats, Asake’s (re)emergence will be noted for two things; firstly as one of the most groundbreaking debuts and secondly, as a turning point in the trajectory of Street-Hop.

YBNL Asake EP Ololade
Bound spectacularly with Neo-Fuji inflections and themes of hope, prayer, amid self-assuredness, Asake’s “Ololade Asake” was the rebirth of Mr Money over a 4-track EP which despite its partly mid-tempo feel, couched itself in our subconscious, playlists and on top of the charts, lording it over even the fast-paced songs the Nigerian music-loving populace was used to.

10. V- Asa

When you’ve made a name for yourself in an industry for close to two decades, no one holds you to the respectability politics of earning it. Rather, it is given, alongside with a hall-pass on being topical or switching up. But Asa has never played by the status quo and 15 years in the game, she sounds this off with her fifth album, V.

BusinessNigerian Naira Rate Predictions For 2023 by Supers(op): 6:09am On Dec 24, 2022
From Supers.ng

Nigeria is a very interesting country in Africa. It has a 225 million population as of 2022. This is more than some major countries in the world.

They banned crypto in 2021 and are going to recognize it once again. But how will its currency look in 2023?

What can we anticipate in this global economic and geopolitical situation? We will discuss all the possible trends below. Since this article refers to predictions in forex trends some readers could take it as financial advice but don’t make that mistake dear traders, this article is only educational and financial advice in nature.

Also, it is very difficult to predict the future and there are always possibilities for major events that can disrupt the entire world economy and order that no one could foresee like the war in Ukraine.

Nigerian Naira outlook 2022

There are main 2022 events and macroeconomic trends we should analyze before going further and saying how NGN (Nigerian Naira) is going to be in 2023.

The Nigerian Naira is in a beautiful downtrend for decades.

There are more red candles on the NGN/USD chart than probably in any other currency pair in the world. This indicates how fragile its economy is.

SEE THIS! INEC: We Might Not Recover In Time For Elections, Should Attacks Continue
Even Georgian Lari saw some uptrends against the dollar this year. When the USD gains strength and lowers inflation by raising interest rates, it makes other fragile and developing countries’ currencies suffer greatly.

As these developing countries have to pay debts and cover expenses they usually use the easiest way to get more money. Yes, they print more money and make their currency even more miserable.

In this context, Nigeria is a developing country and the US Fed’s all-out war against inflation is going to affect it negatively too. It is logical to predict that NGN/USD will go down further and a downtrend is highly likely, especially in the first half of 2023. It is important to equip yourself with knowledge and tools which will help you analyze forex or any financial markets extensively and know how to use this information in trading. One way to LearnFX analysis is to look for good online resources which will help you become a successful trader or financial analyst.

The news was announced by the President of FIFA, Gianni InfantinoGianni Infantino at a meeting of the world governing body’s organizing council on Friday, December 16th, 2022 in Doha, Qatar. The old edition of the competition always features seven teams, comprising the winners of each confederation’s premier trophy, including the UEFA Champions League winners.

As you will remember, we had agreed a few years ago to have a new men’s Club World Cup with 24 teams. This should have taken place in 2021 [but] was postponed because of Covid. The new men’s Club World Cup will therefore take place in 2025 and will feature 32 teams, the best teams in the world. Of course, the details of that still need to be discussed and agreed, but the 32-team tournament will go ahead, making it really like a World Cup

It was at this meeting Infantino announced that the next club World Cup will be hosted in Morocco in 2023. He also said there would also be a new Women’s Club World Cup, but did not specify when it will start.

Infantino, also said that the controversial timing of this mid-season World Cup had led to better football rather than at the end of an exhausting season for players.
