(AFP) – Argentine football legend Diego Maradona said compatriot Lionel Messi did not deserve to be named best player of the World Cup, arguing it should have gone to Colombia's James Rodriguez. "I'd give Lio the sky, but when it's not deserved and it's just marketers who want to make him win something he didn't win, it's unfair," Maradona said Sunday after Argentina lost the World Cup final to Germany 1-0. "Rodriguez was the best player of the World Cup," said Maradona on his TV program "De Zurda," which is broadcast by Venezuelan network Telesur and retransmitted in several Latin American countries. The 23-year-old Rodriguez was the revelation of the World Cup and the top scorer with six goals. Messi dazzled in the group stage with four goals, but failed to score in his last four games, including the final. Maradona said Messi himself did not seem to feel he deserved the trophy. "It looked like he didn't want to take it," he said. But Maradona praised Argentina and said the match could have gone either way. "I'm sad about Mario Goetze's (game-winning) goal," he said. "But we can't forget that we took this World Cup step by step. If we had scored (Gonzalo) Higuain's (disallowed) goal we would be partying. Germany were not dominant." Maradona, 53, was Messi's childhood idol and is his rival for the title of greatest-ever Argentine footballer. To many fans, the 27-year-old Barcelona striker still needs to add a World Cup win to his resume to match the greatness of Maradona, who led his team to the title in 1986. - Do you agree with Maradona? http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/07/messi-didnt-deserve-golden-ball-maradona/ www.starzarena.ml/forum/Messi-didn&-039;t-deserve-Golden-Ball-Maradona_572.html |
The wind of impeachment in All Progressives Congress, APC-controlled states has swept to Nasarawa, where Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed, yesterday directed the clerk to serve Governor Tanko Al-Makura an impeachment notice. The notice was sequel to a motion of public interest raised by the deputy majority leader of the House, Mr Yahaya Usman (PDP, Umaisha/ Ugya), during plenary in Lafia. The lawmaker had presented a document before the Assembly containing allegations of gross misconduct against the governor, which he said was signed by 20 of the 24 members of the Assembly. “I am on my feet to raise a motion under the matter of public interest and I will go direct to read the document I have in my hand: this is a notice of impeachment of Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State for gross misconduct and for the violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, today being the 14th July, 2014. “Twenty members out of the 24 members of this House unanimously endorsed to serve Governor Tanko Al-Makura notice of impeachment”, Usman said. Of the 24 state assembly members, only four are of the ruling APC in the state. The rest belong to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The speaker, who officially received the impeachment notice, said it had complied with the provisions of the 1999 constitution (as amended). He, therefore, directed the clerk of the House, Ego Maikeffi, to serve the impeachment notice on Governor Al-Makura immediately. He said, “In the event that Governor Tanko Al- Makura cannot be reached for service, the clerk is directed to serve him with the impeachment notice through the media”. http://www.informationng.com/2014/07/nasarawa-assembly-serves-al-makura-impeachment-notice.html http://www.starzarena.ml/forum/Nasarawa-Assembly-Serves-Al-Makura-Impeachment-Notice_570.html |

LONDON (Reuters) - Adidas AG will pay a record 750 million pounds ($1.3 billion) to supply Manchester United with shirts and kit, underlining the enduring pulling power of the former English soccer champions despite a dismal last season. The 10-year agreement announced on Monday is a world record for a soccer club and more than double the previous biggest, a 31 million pounds-a-year deal the German sportswear company is reported to have with Spanish side Real Madrid. Its total value is also just 40 million pounds less than United's owners the Glazer family paid for the club in 2005, highlighting how it will help to underwrite the rebuilding of the team under new manager Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman takes charge of the Old Trafford club on Wednesday just days after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup. Nike, the world's largest sportswear group, had sponsored United since 2002 but earlier this month pulled out of a bidding war with Adidas, meaning the 2014-15 season will be the U.S. firm's last as a partner of the 20-time English champions. Adidas, which also has similar deals with elite European clubs including England's Chelsea, Germany's Bayern Munich and Italy's AC Milan, takes over the contract from 2015/16. The deal with arguably the world's most popular team is a coup for the German firm, protecting its leading position in a soccer market in which Nike has made strong inroads over the last 20 years. "This collaboration marks a milestone for us when it comes to merchandising potential. We expect total sales to reach 1.5 billion pounds during the duration of our partnership," Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer said in a statement. Its lucrative value also points to the continued prominence of the United brand despite a 2013/4 campaign - its first without influential manager Alex Ferguson who retired after 26 years in May 2013 - that saw the club finish seventh in the league and miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time in 19 years. The allure of the club's famous red shirts, worn by millions around the globe, had already helped persuade General Motors to put its Chevrolet brand on the team's jerseys in a deal worth $559 million that will run until 2021. That agreement - double the going rate for most major European teams - will see Chevrolet on the front of United shirts from this season in Nike's swansong campaign. Van Gaal, who replaces David Moyes as manager after the Scot parted company with the club less than 10 months into his tenure, will spend two days at United's training complex before flying to Los Angeles with the team on Friday. Nike was also recently replaced by United's league rivals Arsenal, who have signed a kit supplier deal with Germany's Puma, the third-ranked company in the market, worth a reported 30 million pounds a year. www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Football/2014/07/14/Manchester-United-agree-record-shirt-deal-with-Adidas/ www.starzarena.ml/forum/showtopic.php?id=568 |

handsomeness: I cannot cajole anyone here into paying his or her tithe; no matter the logical explanation I proffer here, you can still decide not to agree. But there's a law I know works for sure: If you don't GIVE, you won't and CAN'T succeed. God blesses people to be a "CHANNEL" of blessing and not a "CONTAINER". When you are the latter, you naturally won't succeed or progress in life. Bill Gates is a dangerously committed giver, that's why he can never be poor again. REMEMBER: When you're a CHANNEL, you naturally succeed. Pay your tithe and escape financial hardship.I didn't see the part where you stated that Bill Gates paid tithes to a Pastor. Would you say Mark Zuckerberg(an atheist) is experiencing financial hardship because he doesn't pay tithes to a pastor? Its one thing to help the needy and another thing entirely to pay 10% of your salary to a pastor because you want to be rich(i.e escape from financial hardship). Q.E.D |
