Politics / President Jonathan Insists, I Wont Declare My Assets… by supoade: 7:38am On Jun 25, 2012
President Goodluck Jonathan has insisted that he would not declare his asset, because be gesture, according to him, is irrelevant to good governance, including reining in the deadly Boko Haram.

Asked why he had not declared his assets, Jonathan said “I don’t give a damn” about declaration of assets. He related that he had gone to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua to caution “that we should not play to the hands of some people [by openly declaring their assets].”

Jonathan added, “That is a matter of principle and I am not going to declare. It is not the president declaring his asset that will end Boko Haram. its a matter of principle and whether i am criticised from “head to toe” i will not declare my assets. It is not right, I didn’t even want to declare my assets as VP” but was forced by the then president, Umara Musa Yar’Adua. it is not the right thing to do.”

On the UNILAG name change, the president said what we did, in terms of law, was correct. You change the name first, then send the bill to the National Assembly later…What we did, was the normal procedure,” he said.

He also insists that most of the students are too young to know the significance of Moshood Abiola in Nigeria’s democracy

you see. Nobody has said it was GEJ that was flying at that time and yet some deluded people have turned it to a GEJ bashing thread.

If it was not GEJ, he has the Power to stop the VIP/airport closure.. madness. Until then, GEJ is clueless! and we will not stop bashing GEJ.
Politics / Falana Demands Identity Of VIP Who Closed Airspace & Delayed Landing For 30 Mins by supoade: 2:16am On Jun 22, 2012
Popular lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, has demanded that the federal government reveal the identity of the VIP whose movement caused a partial closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, last Tuesday.
Falana, who was on an Arik Air Flight W3 271, said the plane stayed in the air for an extra 30 minutes after it approached Abuja from Lagos because the airspace was closed.

Really? Please continue...

“Having regards to the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash in Lagos, which killed all the 153 passengers and crew on board, as well as 10 other persons in their homes, I was subjected to unwarranted mental and psychological torture,” he said. “Most other passengers on board were equally traumatised as the Arik plane was forced to hover in the air for 25 minutes.

When the plane eventually landed, I was reliably informed that there had been a restriction of movement at the airport for over one hour. In the process, the fundamental right of hundreds of people to freedom of movement was violated by the airport authorities at the instance of the said Very Important Personality.”

In a letter he sent to the Ministry of Aviation, Falana demanded to know the identity of the said VIP so as to enable him institute legal action against the person. “In the light of the foregoing I am compelled to request you to furnish me with the name of the said Very Important Personality to enable me to sue him for endangering the lives of over 150 passengers,” the letter read.

This request, he said, is made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 which has imposed a duty on all public officers to make requested information available to members of the public.

“Take notice; that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request within seven days of the receipt of this letter, I shall not hesitate to apply for an order of mandamus at the Federal High Court with a view to compelling you to disclose the identity of the said Very Important Personality forthwith,” he stated.

Judge threatens to acquit 24 Boko Haram suspects

Justice Abdul Kafarati, a Judge of the Federal High Court, on Thursday in Abuja threatened to discharge the 24 suspected Boko Haram members standing trial before the court.

The judge, who granted the police a last adjournment for Sept. 18, said that the prosecution counsel had not showed diligence in prosecuting the case.

“I should have discharged the accused persons today but I am compelled by justice to restrain such action and allow the prosecution one last chance.

“The court had adjourned this matter four times at the instance of the prosecutor, who had always promised to bring his witnesses to court but failed each time.

“I shall, therefore, discharge the accused persons should the prosecution fail to bring the witnesses to court on the next adjourned date.

“The prosecution was ordered to avail the accused persons’ lawyers’ proof of evidence.

“It is against the court procedure not to do that a year after the accused persons were arraigned,’’ Kafarati said.

Some of the suspects are Umar Alia 21, Musa Yakubu Gava (38), Awalu Mohd (35), Modu Bama (36), Yakubu Modu Kolibe (15), Mohd Alhaji Modu (23), Badare Hassan (27), Mohd Umar (21) and Mohd Sheriff (23).

The police alleged that the accused, who were facing a five-count charge, conspired to commit felony and act of terrorism in Maiduguri.

The prosecution held that the accused committed an offence punishable under Section 33(1) (b) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2011, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

Thirteen months after the police arraigned the suspects, no witness had been presented.

At the resumed hearing, Mr Bernard Nnamdi, the Counsel to the police, filed an oral application, praying for the adjournment of the case because of the absence of the prosecution witnesses.

The application was jointly opposed to by Kevin Okoro, Mohammed Lucas and Mohammed Ipa, counsel to the accused.

They urged the court to discharge the accused on the grounds of lack of diligent prosecution.

They held that all the adjournments witnessed in the case so far were at the instance of the prosecution counsel.

They further noted that the police was only interested in the detention of the “presumably innocent persons.”

The counsel said that the prosecution had failed to avail the accused with the proof of evidence after over one year of their detention.

They also said that Section 280 of the Criminal Procedure Act empowered the judge to discharge the accused if the prosecutor failed to provide the cause of action.

Politics / Alamieyesigha Urges Fed Govt To Legalise Bunkering by supoade: 6:54am On May 22, 2012
Former Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Alamieyesigha has advocated for the legalisation of bunkering in the Niger Delta.
Alamieyeseigha said foreigners are the masterminds of bunkering in the region.
He urged stakeholders to prevail on President Goodluck Jonathan to issue licences for the legalisation of bunkering.
The former governor spoke at a ceremony in honour of the late Ijaw hero, Isaac Boro, in Yenagoa.
He said: “There is one thing happening in our area now. I read in the papers about oil theft. About 17 per cent of our production is taken away.
“Our people are not sophisticated enough to go into high-level bunkering. The bunkerers are not here. In the whole oil industry, how many Ijaw people are lifting oil?
“To address the poverty that is so endemic among our people, there should be licences for bunkering.
“The Ijaw man is not yet emancipated economically. The fight is not over, we must be economically liberated.
“There is a thin line between economy and power. They complement each other. My brothers and sisters, let us unite. We should obtain licences for bunkering.
“We have a president of our own, we have a minister of petroleum, who will stop us from obtaining bunkering licences?
“Ask, it shall be given, knock it shall be open. No need to go behind the door. Let us confront our brother and get what we want for our people.”
Alamieyeseigha extolled the legacies of the late Boro, whom he described as the architect of the survival of the Ijaw nation.
“People must look at those areas that we have been impoverished and fight for it. We know that nobody will give you power on a platter of gold; you demand for it, you fight for it. It is our own,” he noted.

Politics / Jonathan’s Aide Demanded N5m For Access To President by supoade: 6:29am On May 19, 2012
There was a twist at a ministerial platform programme in Abuja, on Friday, as one of the participants accused an unnamed Principal Secretary to President Goodluck Jonathan of demanding N5 million before he (the participant) could be allowed to meet the President.

Saturday Tribune, which was at the National Press Centre, venue of the programme, observed that other participants comprising diplomats were stunned when Pastor Jason Nworah made the allegation.

Friday’s programme witnessed the highest number of diplomats so far, ostensibly due to the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Olugbenga Ashiru.

Nworah had attended virtually all the platform programmes which had run for about two weeks now and habitually asked questions.

At the event, where Ashiru and his counterpart from the Ministry of Interior, Abba Moro, made presentations, a visibly angry Nworah, who is the National President of Youth Organisation for Unity and Total Harmony of Society (Youths), alleged that he had approached the Presidency with a proposal on how the country could attract direct foreign investment, only to be told that he had to part with the sum of N5 million before he could get the attention of the President.

He said the proposal was “before the desk of the Principal Secretary to President Jonathan.”

The programme was aired live and monitored locally and internationally.

None of the members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), who were present at the programme, made effort to debunk the allegation.

The allegation came as the administration of President Jonathan said it was fighting graft and was determined to stamp it out.

President Goodluck Jonathan says he does not want to be admonished like a schoolchild.

Speaking at a dinner in honour of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Monday, Jonathan however told the PDP executives despite being president he was not above the party.

He said he and other members of the Executive arm of government as well as the legislature were ready to respect party supremacy.

Jonathan said, “The President cannot be a king or maximum ruler, the President is elected by the party and must serve the party not the party serving the President. So, if he is deviating, the President must be cautioned so that all will know that the party is supreme and all must all follow the dictates of the party.

“I am not saying the President should be admonished like a primary schoolchild. Nobody in the party from the President to the least person at the ward will be superior to the party. So, you have a lot of challenges in this direction to make sure that you instil that kind of discipline. We will give you maximum cooperation.”

“The PDP is a political party and as a party, we must have guidelines and no matter the office you are holding, the party must be in a position to discipline or admonish Mr. President if he deviates.

“In South Africa, the African National Congress can admonish the President because the party is superior. And that is why in the gathering of the party, the party chairman takes precedence in order of protocol. It shows that the President himself is under the chairman.

Jonathan said he would not take issue with those criticising his administration, saying, “when you are in the ruling party, you must show more maturity”.

The President said, “We must all work to create an avenue where the party will source funding so that if you are the chairman of the party, members of the working committee, you can manage the party without excessive influence of people.

“Even though we expect all moneybags to be in PDP, but we don’t want the moneybags to influence the activities of the party and to stop that of course, we must come up with programmes that will make the party self-sustaining in terms of financing.”

The PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bamagar Tukur, said the party could not be repositioned without internal democracy and discipline.

He urged all party faithful to ensure that they do not work in cross purpose with the government

Politics / We’ll Stop And Search Aregbesola’s Convoy, Says Omisore by supoade: 5:06am On Apr 23, 2012
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has threatened to stop and search the convoy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The former lawmaker alleged that the governor was not using men of the State Security Service (SSS) for his security personnel. He addressed reporters in his Ile-Ife home at the weekend.
Omisore said: “We will stop his convoy, search and remove all the arms his thugs are using.
“It is unethical to use thugs as security. Aregbesola should explain why he goes about with thugs. During the last elections, he rigged with the aids of thugs, but this time round, we are ready for him.
“Who wants to kill him? (Asiwaju Bola) Tinubu is more important than he is. He is a common radio technician. If Aregbesola does not trust the SSS, let him resign. We are going to stop his convoy and search him.
“His action is an embarrassment. He is just one of the 36 governors; how can his case be different? Tinubu was governor for eight years, he did not use thugs as security.
“Together with Aregbesola we were in the Alliance for Democracy (AD). We know ourselves very well. Aregbesola was just one of the thugs shouting outside when we held crucial meetings. If not for Justice Ayo Salami, whose judgment favoured Aregbesola and he is now paying for it by being at home wasting away, who knew Aregbesola?”
The former senator said it was not an allegation that Aregbesola was training and using members of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) to commit alleged electoral fraud.
He vowed “to crush any OYES member found in any voting centre in the next elections”.
According to him, the politics promoted by the PDP in the Southwest from 2003 to 2011 brought succour to the zone and would advance the Yoruba interest faster than the regional integration of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
But the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere, asked in what capacity Omisore would act, if he plans to stop and search the governor’s convoy.
Describing Omisore’s outburst as a direct confrontation, Akere said: “We shall see how he will do that and get away with it.”
The commissioner, who said no harm must come to the governor, noted that the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, was murdered despite the security provided for him by the government.
He said: “If Omisore should be bold to say he would search the governor’s convoy, the whole world should note it. And we are demanding that no harm should happen to the governor. We don’t want to take him for granted.”
Akere said the PDP was a bad loser for referring to OYES instead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the superintendent of elections.
He added that the PDP had performed abysmally.

Jesus said,

"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him."

Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us."

Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father?' Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will he do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:7-14)

The implications of Jesus' words in those few verses are overwhelming. The fact that He claims to be God is profound enough. But then He adds a guarantee that whoever believes in Him would have power to do even greater works than He had done, and concludes by saying that if we ask anything in His name He will do it. These words are monumental in declaring not only who Jesus is, but also what He intends to do in and for those who belong to Him.

Notice that our Lord was making three momentous revelations to His disciples.

Of cause not, even if an Angel should appear in the mid sky and shout with a loud voice ''ONLY JESUS CAN SAVE'' ''HEAVEN & HELL IS REAL'' many would still not believe, no wonder when the rich man in torment pleaded with abraham to send lazarus back to his hometown to tell his people about hell so they wont end where he is, father abraham said if they would not believe the prophet and men of God preaching about salvation and righteousness then even if someone should rise from the dead they would still not believe Luke 16:19-31.
There is nothing anyone can do to save you from your disbelieve, it did'nt just started now, this has been in existance since time immemorial, man chooses to delusion to truth, all of you who dont believe in spiritual realm, well the only phrase i have for you is '' On your dying bed you would know better and your worstest fear will be your companion.'' Politics / Disturbing: Jonathan Expends N114 Billion In Eight Months? by supoade: 2:06am On Jan 15, 2012
The Stabilisation Fund Account which is meant to save funds for the future generation has been depleted by the Federal Government with periodic withdrawals made of over N114 billion in eight months, documents available to Daily Trust show.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration made withdrawals in different instalments between September 2010 and May 2011 for various expenditure, including loans to the police and funding of committee activities, according to the documents.

The revenue sharing laws provide that 0.5 percent of funds accruing to the Federation Account should be remitted to the stabilisation account. The account had balances of about N120 billion in August 2010 but was depleted to N37 billion by October 14.
Funds were withdrawn for activities of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), the National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) and the Consolidated Revenue Fund Charges (CFR), consumer car finance scheme, police peace keeping mission in Haiti, INEC, among others.
Documents reveal that the Federal Government withdrew over N75 billion in September 2010 alone. On September 1 and 15, the government withdrew N40.5 billion and N35.5 billion which was purportedly “released to CFR as loan to fund the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for 2010 General Election.”
Another N11.3 billion was withdrawn on October 13 and “released” to INEC as loan for the same election.
The stabilisation account rose to about N36 billion between January to May 2011 only to be depleted again to N11 billion. Also, about N400 million was withdrawn as funding for the activities of FAAC and NACOFED between January and May 2011.
Also, N150 million was withdrawn through five memos on the same day.
Another withdrawal was made on January 26, 2011 of N255 million as “funding for NACOFED & FAAC Activities for 2011.”
A number of other withdrawals for FAAC and NACOFED were backdated as payments for 2004 and 2005 activities. The breakdown shows: N31 million was “released to FAAC Secretariat for year 2004;” N25 million for “NACOFED conference expenses for year 2004;” N27 million was “release to FAAC secretariat for year 2005;” N26 million was NACOFED conference for year 2005” and N35 million was released to FAAC Secretariat for year 2006.”
FAAC comprises largely state commissioners of finance and headed by the minister of state for finance. Officials told Daily Trust that since these commissioners come to FAAC meetings on official assignment from their states, it was unlikely that the Federal Government would truly spend these millions on “FAAC activities.”
On May 11, 2011, N242 million was withdrawn and “granted as loan to Inspector General of Police (IGP) for purchase of vehicles for UN peace keeping in Haiti- 1st instalment.” Another N33 million and N32 million were released on the same day to the IGP, according to the documents, as second and third instalments for the vehicles purchase.
Similarly, N4.5 million was withdrawn and released “as loan granted to pay the second Tranche of FGN 50 % contribution to the funding of 2006 Tranches of the Pioneer Consumer Car Finance Scheme.” Another N10 billion was withdrawn and released as “loan granted to pay 2nd Tranche of FGN 50% contribution to the Phase II of the Pioneer Car Finance Scheme for public servants and in the paramilitary agencies.”
Other withdrawals were N4.5 billion loan granted to fund 2006 virement; N827 million equivalent of loan granted Sao Tome ($5m); N1.6 billion loan granted to fund 2006 virement; N2.8 billion loan granted to pay 2nd Tranche of FGN 50 percent contribution to the Phase I of the pioneer car finance scheme; distribution of 50 percent of balance in the Excess Crude Proceeds Account in 2004 and another N985 million advance to FGN to meet shortfall in revenue since beginning of year 2011. All these withdrawals were made on May 11, 2011.
‘This is profligacy’
Yinka Odumakin, a spokesman for former head of state Muhammadu Buhari, described these withdrawals from the stabilisation account as the signature tune of the ruling party characterised by profligacy and waste of public resources.
“It is a pity that Nigerians have signed a prodigal nation. The country is broke because the PDP regime has emptied all the treasuries.
“The same government has depleted our foreign reserve, excess crude account and now stabilisation account. The country is broke, that is why we are being forced to buy new drivers licence, new plate numbers and worst of all pay N145 for petrol litre,” he said.
Spokesman for the opposition Congress for Progressive Change Rotimi Fashakin said, “There is nothing surprising in Jonathan government dipping its hands into the stabilisation account having specialised in financial recklessness and waste of public funds.”
He said “due to the insatiable quest for public funds, the ruling party has also depleted our foreign reserves, excess crude account, among others. The regime conducted the most expensive elections in the history of the country in 2011. We are not surprised at the level of its financial recklessness.”
In his reaction, the Publicity Secretary of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Mr Osita Okechukwu, said that the development is the usual “food- is- ready” politics of the ruling PDP.
“It is not surprising at all; it is the usual food-is-ready style of the PDP. It is very tragic as well,” he said. The government “has carved a niche for itself in squandering the country’s resources. That is why the same government in the last 12 years couldn’t complete a single federal road; build or even maintain our refineries or resuscitate our railway system.”
He said that the depletion of the stabilization account is tantamount to toying with the future of “our children and grandchildren.”
