The idea of rocks simply ‘clicking’ together like lego blocks sounds too fantastic to be true, but that’s what makes it more fun for Michael. “When somebody sees something they think is impossible, it has a really interesting impact on the person’s mind as they try to argue with their senses,” he said. Michael uses his rock balancing skill as a performance art – he creates unique rock formations in front of spectators, who are simply amazed by what he can do. “Mystical”, “magical”, and “impossible” are some words people have used to describe his work. And Michael likes to add a bit of mischief to his performance as well: “I just go up and tap one in the middle and it just collapses. And everyone is like [gasp!] So I just like, get down, start making it again. Make it a tiny bit different.” Michael guesses that he might be one of only five professional rock balancers in the world. He said that he’s passionate about it because it is a ‘fun way to relax, release stress, play, create, learn’. He also described it as a ‘fairly involved meditative practice, which seems to reveal very personal, and sometimes profound insights to the seasoned practitioner’. “There is nothing easy about it,” he admitted. “It can frustrate me to my limits, and then I learn. Or it can reveal magic beyond words, and I learn. Sometimes the rock wins, but most of the time I win.” You cancheck out more pictures of his spectacular work at his website: www.gravityglue.com

Artist Michael Grab is a master of rock balancing – he can pile them up in all sorts of gravity- defying formations, and believe it or not, there’s no glue involved. Michael calls his art a ‘contemplative stone arrangement’ that involves ‘patience, adaptation, slow-breathing, steady hands and a plethora of other practiced skills’. His project, called ‘Gravity Glue’, has him balancing rocks of all shapes and capturing the impossible-looking structures on camera. “I began balancing rocks through somewhat of a whim in the summer of 2008 while exploring Boulder Creek in Boulder, CO, USA,” he says. “Since then, simple curiosity has evolved into a prolific creative passion, and daily meditative practice.” He claim that his creations have a unique effect on himself and others – they inspire a sense of magic and peace, a sense that anything is possible. According to Michael, the balancing technique requires a minimum of three contact points. While every rock is covered with several indentations that could serve as contact points, his job is to find the ‘finest point balances’ by paying close attention to ‘vibrations’. He does this by ‘getting to know’ the rocks, and his intuition and experience come in handy while trying to locate these particular points of balance. “The most fundamental element of balancing in a physical sense is finding some kind of ‘tripod’ for the rock to stand on. I’m basically feeling the vibrations of the rocks as they kind of roll over one another,” he explained. “Whenever it rolls over one of those notches, it kind of clicks or locks until you really can’t go anywhere else.”

Bodhi the dog has no time for silly pastimes like chasing squirrels or playing fetch – he’s quite serious about his high flying career as a top New York menswear model. The four-year-old Shiba Inu is well known in fashion circles as ‘Menswear Dog’ – he has landed paid modelling contracts with top brands such as Coach, Todd Snyder and Salvatore Ferragamo. He’s also a social media sensation with over 140,000 followers on Instagram. Bodhi’s owners – Yena Kim, 27, and Dave Fung, 29 – came up with the idea as a joke; they dressed up their adorable Shiba Inu in a few fancy suits and hats. When they posted photographs on their Facebook page, the response they received was overwhelmingly positive. So they started their own Tumblr page featuring Bodhi dressed according to popular fashion trends. “We didn’t have any epic plans when we started our blog,” said Yena, who has worked as a fashion designer for Ralph Lauren. “We were bored one Saturday afternoon so we decided to pass the time by dressing up our handsome Shiba in serious menswear.” “Everyone who has a dog has put clothes on their dog at some point, just to goof around,” added Dave, who has a decade of experience as a professional graphic designer. “We just found out that when we put clothes on him, he lit up, he started posing for us.” They posted the pictures online, and according to Yena: “The response was unreal, so the next day was spent putting together a Tumblr. The following day, our Tumblr was featured on GQ Magazine’s website and it just snowballed from there.” Soon, the fashion-savvy canine amassed an army of followers and there was no looking back after that. Bodhi started receiving countless requests for collaborations with fashion labels. “Initially we got some criticism from people who thought he might be uncomfortable in human clothes,” said Dave. “But it turned into people criticising his outfits and telling us what shirt would look better with what tie – and that’s when we knew we were successful.” And it appears that Bodhi quite enjoys being photographed in an array of stylish outfits. He’s such a natural model, and he really does seem to know how to work with the camera.

I'm neither pro Jonathan(PDP) nor Buhari(APC)...I'm a Nigerian who would love to see Nigeria take front seat as giant of Africa...developmental-wise. ...the TRUTH is I'm far from being satisfied with GEJ's administration. this is because his accomplishment is far below average considering the enormous resources (both human and material) available for him... ...the SAD REALITY is, with the current crop of politicians in this country, there's no better candidate come 2015 based on administrative competence and leadership history... ...the only proven politician (by my observation) that can potentially outperform GEJ due to his tested skills on the two abovementioned criteria is either uninterested in leading the nation or yet to make his intentions known...and he is no other than Fashola. |
