Turkish Airlines is reportedly planning to buy up to 600 aircraft in the coming year and its chairman said Boeing will get a chunk of that order. “During the [International Air Transport Association (IATA) AGM [to be held between June 4-6, 2023, in Istanbul] we are going to announce orders. With one of the big manufacturers, we are almost finishing our discussions,” Ahmet Bolat said. According to CH-Aviation, Bolat said Boeing’s share of the total will be announced at IATA and an Airbus order will be announced at Farnborough. If the airline goes ahead with the full order, it will be a full replacement and a significant expansion of its fleet. Turkish now operates about 450 aircraft with about 1,500 daily flights. Ahmet said the order will be split between 400 single-aisle and 200 widebodies and will be delivered over the next 10 years. He did not suggest a ratio of Boeing and Airbus aircraft in the order. https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/turkish-airlines-plans-massive-aircraft-order/

Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernández was convicted and sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison and a lifetime ban from holding public office for a fraud scheme that embezzled $1 billion through public works projects during her presidency. A three-judge panel found the Peronist leader guilty of fraud, but rejected a charge of running a criminal organization, for which the sentence could have been 12 years in prison. It was the first time an Argentine vice president has been convicted of a crime while in office. Fernández lashed out at the verdict, describing herself as the victim of a “judicial mafia.” But she also later announced that she would not run next year for the presidency, a post she previously held in 2007-15. The sentence isn’t firm until appeals are decided, a process that could take years. She will remain immune from arrest meanwhile. Fernández's supporters vowed to paralyze the country with a nationwide strike. They clogged downtown Buenos Aires and marched on the federal court building, beating drums and shouting as they pressed against police barriers. Fernández denied all the accusations. Argentina's dominant leader this century, she was accused of improperly granting public works contracts to a construction magnate closely tied to her family. The verdict is certain to deepen fissures in the South American nation, where politics can be a blood sport and the 69-year-old populist leader is either loved or hated. President Alberto Fernández, who is not related to his vice president, said on Twitter that she was innocent and that her conviction is “the result of a trial in which the minimum forms of due process were not taken care of.” Prosecutors said Fernández fraudulently directed 51 public works projects to Lázaro Báez, a construction magnate and early ally of her and her husband, Nestor Kirchner, who served as president in 2003-07 and died in 2010. Báez and members of Fernández's 2007-15 presidential administration were among a dozen others accused in the conspiracy. The panel also sentenced Báez and her public works secretary, José López, to six years. Most of the others got lesser sentences. Prosecutors Diego Luciani and Sergio Mola said the Báez company was created to embezzle revenues through improperly bid projects that suffered from cost overruns and in many cases were never completed. The company disappeared after Kirchner and Fernández's 12 years in power, they said. In Argentina, judges in such cases customarily pronounce verdicts and sentences first and explain how they reached their decision later. The panel’s full decision is expected in February. After that, the verdict can be appealed up to the Supreme Court, a process that could take years. Fernández went on her YouTube channel to say she will not seek further office after her vice presidential term expires on Dec. 10, 2023. "I’m not going to be a candidate for anything, not president, not for senator. My name is not going to be on any ballot. I finish on December 10 and go home,” she said. Politicians and analysts had noted that until her appeal is settled, Fernández would be free to run for any elected office — from a seat in Congress to the presidency — and obtain immunity by being elected. “Cristina always surprises," pollster Roberto Bacman, director of Argentina's Center for Public Opinion Studies, said of her announcement. But “she will continue fighting,” he added. “She places herself in the center of the fight and says that she is not going to hide.” He said it remains to be seen if the Peronist sector seeks to push Fernández to reconsider her decision. Patricio Giusto, director of the consulting firm Diagnostico Politico, predicted Fernández will deepen her “strategy of victimization and equating herself” with Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, the leftist politician who has just been elected president of Brazil after a court overturned his prison sentence for corruption. During the judicial process, the vice president called herself a victim of “lawfare” and characterized the judiciary as a pawn of the opposition media and conservative politician Mauricio Macri, who succeeded her as president in 2015-19. Fernández remains the singular leader of the leftist faction of the Peronist movement. Bacman said his surveys show 62% of Argentines want her removed and 38% support her no matter what. Meanwhile, other cases remain pending against her, including a charge of money laundering that also involves her son and daughter. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/argentina-s-vp-fern%c3%a1ndez-found-guilty-in-1-billion-fraud-gets-6-years-in-prison/ar-AA14Zwom |

Hello guys, Merry Christmas! I see a lot of information that can scare applicants here. Nevertheless, don't give up. Turkey is such a nice place to live and study. I will be honest with you, no assurances on jobs especially if you want to do office work. But what most people do here is teaching and you must have some level of certification and a good CV to back it up. On the sideline, if you are into buying and selling, Turkey is the best place to be. Things are very cheap here....food, clothes, transportation (to an extent) and life generally. Housing cost- It is best for you to rent a shared apartment (staying with others in an apartment). In Istanbul, you can get apartments from around 10-40k Naira per month. Depending on if it's furnished or not! Students benefit a lot from the cheap transportation if you have the student bus card...once you do a month subscription on it for around 2.5/3k, you will have the opportunity of having 200rides (bus, ferry, train, team) Food is very cheap here especially if you do not mind eating their local food and also if you can cook your food yourself. Cooking in your house saves a lot of money! School fees- Depends on the school you apply for. Public schools charge as low as $300 per session but a bit difficult to gain admission. Private universities can charge between $1.5k - $4k per session. It's easier to gain admission to any of the private universities....when searching, look for schools that do not require application fee (if you like free things like me). Istanbul is big so when applying you have to consider nearness to where you want to stay. It doesn't make much sense if your school is 2hrs from your place, though it doesn't matter much these days that lectures are online. Business side- if you are into merchandising, this is a good place to visit. There are so many markets in Istanbul- depending on what you want to buy and where you will get it cheaply. Electronics such as phones and TV can be a bit expensive, but other stuffs can be relatively cheap. You can get busy with sales of clothes, shoes, household accessories etc, if you are looking for a side hustle....it pays very well if you have buyers and people you can send to in Nigeria! I wish you well in all your endeavours guys! For those in Istanbul and anyone wishing to come to Turkey, feel free to hit me up, I stay around Pendik. Would be nice to have friends around!
|
there is nothing hard in doing it yourself, I was a novice when I had the admission cos I applied myself....all I did was to come up on Nairaland and you guys here helped me.... today I am in Pendik-Istanbul, thanks to some good advice from people here. Dont let anybody take your money, you can DIY! |
$125 The amount is inclusive of the insurance and visa fee thot: |
Royals1st:Don't worry about the insurance company to use. Insurance is already added to the $125 you are paying at mzvize. So no need for extra insurance during the submission process. |
If what you are applying for is study visa, then I suggest you mail the school and notify them about the delay and ask if there is any help they can render... Tochil: |
Yommy....and everyone in the house.... I finally got my study visa yesterday..... after more than one month of application submission and passport collection. I want to implore those of you that are yet to get the mail, do not relent, it will surely come. Send a mail to the school and embassy, that was all I did. Istanbul is the destination for now.... Anyone in Istanbul ![]() Tochil: |
Yommy247:Hoping for the best this week...wish you the best as well! |
mryoung16:You will submit your documents and the international passport. You will also make payment immediately at the mzvize office |

Contact trace all the people these escaped pilots could have had contact with...we need to isolate them as well... |
This is good...ideas like this should be encouraged. China, Japan and other Asian tech giants started out like this by reviewing, redesigning and local production of already existing technologies...simply awesome! |
Awesome...these guys are true legends. I love adventures too! |
A lot of things can make a lady run from visiting a guy at home...things like the guy forcing himself on her, stylishly asking her to do some chores for you-wash clothes, plates, clean the house, cook. But come to think of it, there was this lady that came to visit a friend of mine. The guy then asked her to cook when she said she was hungry. In short, she made a mess of the guy's kitchen. She was a lousy cook! And anytime she says she wants to come over, the guy go sharpaly disappear for house. |
1. A glass that turns water into wine Vocktail created by scientists from Singapore, is a glass that can change the flavor and color of the drink inside it. This glass with a "virtual cocktail" is connected to a mobile app that allows you to control the settings for the liquid. 2. "Smart" glasses There are many cool things about Vue glasses: they can make calls, transmit music, and be a navigator, pedometer, and calorie counter. The main thing is that they have a "Find my glasses" function, so you won’t need to spend hours looking for your glasses. Vue glasses look like regular glasses (there’s also an option for sunglasses), they are controlled by touch, and they have a special case with wireless charging. 3. A toothbrush that cleans your teeth by itself Amabrush brushes your teeth much more thoroughly than a regular brush, and it does its job in only 10 seconds. You just have to put it in your mouth and connect the device to your smartphone via Bluetooth. 4. A prison inmate who escaped from a South Carolina work crew in 1979 was captured in Delaware on New Year's Day, according to the department. Jose Chico Romero, 64, had been living under an assumed name when he was arrested December 28 after showing Dover police a fake ID, according to Chrysti Shain, director of communications for the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Police processed and released him under the name Arnaldo Figueroa, but his fingerprints came back as a match for Romero. He was arrested Wednesday. Police have caught the inmate who escaped jail by carving through a brick wall. He is being held in Georgetown, Delaware, on a fugitive warrant and has waived extradition, Shain said. He is also charged with public intoxication, loitering, trespassing, forgery, criminal impersonation and being an out-of-state fugitive. The Delaware Attorney General's office tells CNN that no defense attorney is listed for Romero in court records. Romero was serving 18 years for armed robbery when he escaped in Anderson County, South Carolina, on December 13, 1979, Shain said. After he is returned to South Carolina, Romero will have to serve the rest of his original sentence, about seven years, plus any time added for an escape conviction, Shain said. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/02/us/inmate-captured-south-carolina-delaware-trnd/index.html

Many people think that Switzerland’s wealth is due to its status as a fiscal haven. But Panama, Cyprus, and the Republic of Liberia, are also fiscal havens. Africa not only offers low taxes to international companies but also offers them capacity. However, countries in Africa remain in low income status while Switzerland remains one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Not only this, all of Switzerland’s wealth comes without having natural resources and by not compromising on democracy and human rights. In fact Switzerland can boast one of the most egalitarian political systems in the world. Also, its welfare system is as good as that of Norway or Denmark. In addition, its citizens not only have the right to vote every 4 years but every four months! The Swiss don’t just choose their leaders but they choose their policies with referendums happening several times a year. Switzerland has one of the world’s best political systems. Some argue that this is the reason as to why they are successful. In fact, the Swiss system is so good, that it could be a model for other countries. Here are some key aspects of it: Decentralization From a political standpoint, Switzerland is what is known as a confederation, and it is the only confederation that exists on the planet. It is made up of 26 states which are called cantons. The only thing that these cantons have in common are a constitution, foreign policy and a currency — aside from that they are totally different from one another. For instance, if you make a salary of 5,918USD and you live in the region of Jura, you are going to pay an income tax of 14 percent. But if you made the same amount of money and you live in the region of Zug, your income is only going to be 4%. If you have a shop in Geneva, you are going to have to close your shop at 6PM. But if you own a shop in Zurich you are free to keep your shop open for as many hours as you want. The cantons can adjust their laws and pluralities as they see fit. What is more important is that they can compete with each other; this explains why in general the cantons have such low taxation. Switzerland is so decentralized that they have four official languages; German, French, Italian and Romansh. When you visit Geneva which is in the French speaking part, you are not going to hear anyone speaking German. The billboards, road signs, and local newspapers are all in French. The same applies to Zurich with German or Lugano with Italian. No head of government Every country has a head of government who is responsible for certain things. Well, not Switzerland. Yet they are not living in anarchy. What they do is vote for a federal parliament which is similar to congress in the United States. This parliament then chooses seven (7) people who are going to become something like ministers or secretaries. All of these seven people have the same amount of power. Each year one of them takes a turn becoming Switzerland’s international representative. Technically this person is the president of Switzerland but he or she does not have specific powers over the other 6 people. This is an important difference in the Swiss mentality because in other countries the president is a really powerful person but in Switzerland it is just a symbolic thing because the entire decision making is done by a team. Flexible Democracy The most important part of the Swiss political system is their referendums. Most of their laws are chosen by a popular vote, some at a federal level while others at a cantonal level. Proposal for a referendum requires only 50,000 signatures while one that’s going to amend the constitution requires 100,000 signatures. Other countries allow their population to have referendums too, for example Spain. But to seek a referendum in Spain requires 500,000 signatures, and they cannot do any referendums that can change the constitution. Switzerland holds several referendums every single year. Every four months, the Swiss go to the polling stations and they will vote for any proposal that has been put forward in the previous four months. These polls usually have big turn outs of more than 60%. Free market capitalism It would be very easy for a populist, anti-capitalist leader to emerge in a system like this, right? Remarkably, Switzerland is to the free market what France is to the wine industry. Don’t forget that this country is geographically isolated by mountains and has practically no farming land. This means that it has had to sign free trade agreements with pretty much every country on earth. It is undeniable that Switzerland is a commerce loving nation BUT no more so than the European Union. The Swiss actually subsidize their agriculture as much as the Europeans or the Americans do — yet they also participate in the same trade embargoes that exist with Iran and Russia. The only difference is that Switzerland has embraced free trade since 1874 while the rest of the world has been doing it for the last few decades. Neutrality in global affairs Switzerland will not participate in any armed conflicts, making it one of the few neutral countries in the world. They even stayed out in the Second World War despite most of the population being against Hitler. While the rest of the Europe ripped itself apart, killing millions and spending billions in reconstruction, Switzerland didn't and they used all their savings to improve their system. Switzerland does have a military, but this army is entirely defensive and will only be used to expell external attacks. It will never be used to fight in anything outside of self-defense. This is where we see one of the few drawbacks of the Swiss system — the military or should we say…. their militia. The drawback, of course, is not that they won't attack anyone. It is that every Swiss citizen must spend one month, of every single year, from age 18 to age 30, serving in the military. Even after this service period they must keep a gun at home. Plenty of people argue that this system is good with pundits saying it creates more entrepreneurs and less economic disparity. It is during this time in the military that the rich and poor are mixing together. Several startups and companies have been created from relationships that were formed while people were serving in the military. The big question is… What about the freedom to choose? Should government force you to work in a place that you may not want to work? Ease of doing business This is another area where Switzerland shines. Despite the differences from one Canton to another, Switzerland has very low taxation overall. The laws to start a company are straight forward. Anyone can see those laws by just going online. Switzerland is one of the most transparent countries in the world which has encouraged a lot of international companies to establish their fiscal residence in Switzerland. But it's also very easy for Swiss people, living in Switzerland, to set up their own company Banks do make up a large part of the Swiss economy but it probably not as much as people think. There are many other industries in Switzerland including Logitech, Nestle, and Norvatis. They are among the most popular companies in the world. All of this is being done in a country with a population that is smaller than New York city's. Switzerland perfectly embodies the argument that it is not the country’s natural resources or luck to determine a country’s success but rather its systems of government and institutions that do this. The Swiss have a lot to teach Africa in this regard.

Please house, help me look into this Suspense12: |
Good day house, please I have these few questions. My girlfriend was refused uk visa in July because of the fact that she didn't explain the other sources of funds in her account (this was the only reason given for the refusal). She works in a bank but the statement she submitted shows that she received other funds with her account which was not explained. She wants to make another application this October but needs some clarifications. 1. She wants to travel by November, hope the 3months minimum application won't be an issue? 2. She has provided invoices, delivery note and receipts she obtained as these explains the sources of the funds in her account. 3. She has written a justification letter explaining the other source of income. She has also updated her information on the website explaining that she has a business she runs..though the business is not yet registered. 4. Can an unregistered business issue receipts..cos she is thinking of uploading receipts showing her business name or personal name? 5. She earns over 300k per month and she indicates that she wants to spend £2000 on the trip...is the money too much or little?? 6. Initially she applied for 7days vacation but she wants to increase it to 14days 7. She has been able to shift her vacation at work and she has a letter to back it up. What other documents can she attach ?? |
