cynthy2000: With the current free fall of the Nigerian currency (Naira) against the major foreign currencies (Dollar, Pound, Euro etc.), the Nigerian government under president Muhammadu Buhari has stopped the sales of forex to parents of students studying abroad.
Parents of Nigerian students abroad who just last year obtained dollar at the then official exchange rate of ₦166 are now forced to obtain the dollar at the current parallel/black market rate of over ₦300. What this means is that parents who last year paid about ₦1.6 million for a $10,000 tuition fee abroad will now have to pay about ₦3 million for the same $10,000 tuition fee in foreign Universities/Colleges or withdraw their wards.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, President Buhari while responding to a question on the challenges faced by parents with kids in schools abroad, who are now facing the possibility of having to pull their kids out, simply said “If the country cannot afford it, so be it.”
When probed further by Al Jazeera's Martine Dennis about his children who obviously will continue their studies abroad, the president said "Those who can afford it, can still afford it. But for those who can’t, Nigeria cannot afford to allocate foreign exchange for those who decided to train their children outside the country. We can’t just afford it.” “Well, that’s the true situation we are in.”
The federal government is convinced that the high demand for forex by parents of the students studying abroad has contributed to the current free fall of the Nigerian currency.
The president also frowned on those who received foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) at the official exchange rate but divert same to make more profits.
“Anybody who is given dollars by the CBN to import pharmaceuticals and decides to go and sell at parallel market in order to make, maybe additional N100, we will pursue them and punish them”, the president vowed.
deyemia: The Person I Intend To Marry Just Told Me This!!!
Dear Nairalanders,
I've come again to hear your views about this issue.... especially married "Egbons"
So it all started like this, My new fiancee and I just finished a sunday service and I was about going to drop her at home when one of her single friends asked if she could join us which we agreed.
On our way they started talking all wife stuffs sharing their views on a marriage and shii, then one thing led to a financial topic where my fiancee started saying she can never support a husband financially, that a man should be a man and take all responsibilities of every penny to be spent, that the reason she's working is to be able to afford all the things she wants that all the responsibilities of the household is for the husband . I acted cool at first.
Her friend was even saying that she doesnt like to be a liability that at least it should not be the man's responsibility 100% that the wife should be able to support financially, My fiancee outrightly disagreed with her saying support doesnt have to be financial from the wife, that it could be through prayers.
I couldnt keep mute anymore I had to ask her "what does it mean when people say supportive wife? " she replied she doesn't know, that she's sure it doesnt have to be financial.
At some point when the friend had already alighted, I asked what if the man is building a house and needs immediate support for just window frames, she said never!
She even said if she has money in the bank and their is no food at home, we will all drink Garri.
Now here are the facts, -We got introduced through match making, -there are some good things about her that is worth consideration. -I dont think she has dated before because she obviously has no experience whats so ever when it comes to relationship behaviours. she's "efikko" kind of. -This her ideology seems deep rooted in her upbringing and family., her mum is rich.
My Challenge is, Should I stick around and try to change that ideology or just move on because I am sure it's a destructive ideology.

ambrosunny: This thread is meant to make all jambite know their chance of gaining admission into any of the institutions in Nigeria. Just drop your jamb score, the applied course and the institution aspiring for. With this, I believe you can help others and others can help you. Success!!!!!!!
IamLukas: Going by what I read from mast yr's thread,Med Cut off was 73 on Merit! If U are sure of getting 83 in the putme test U can stay put,but if not,pls do change
plz help us drop infos on the new courses in uniben cos I Wana get a chng of schl form so we need new courses so we can be on a safe side plzzzzzzz
I also sat for jamb on the above date (yesterday), just to double my chances of gaining admission this year(D.E. things). I was in second batch i.e. 1:30pm but the problem is, up till now, I am yet to see the supposed graphical result on my phone, mind you, the issue of submitting a wrong number during registration is not likely as i submitted my two numbers with no possibility of errors.
I happen to be curious because we were all logged out before time, without warning(the 10mins more etc stuff) and exams submitted, i for one still had 18mins left, some others claimed they had at least 25mins left(i wonder why the variation in our times). Thank God I was on the last subject(maths) but unfortunately still on number 36. The officials' excuse was that the time on our systems counts slowly and not like the normal time.
I am confident of at least 75% passes in each of the other 3 subjects and from the maths about a 45% from the little i did but still curious especially when i saw the post of the guy claiming he deserved more than the the 260score he was given.
So, My question is, Has anyone else not received theirs as well?
I can't wait for 3days oooo.
