Review Since the success of Helen Fielding s Bridget Jones Diary, countless authors have offered chick lit knockoffs following the same conventional formula, In the Mrs Club, first time Nigerian author Ekene Onu, drops us into the lives of three trendy Nigerian women living in the United States - Titi, Mina and Amaka each at a different romantic crossroads. Titi (who is single, well, sort of), Mina (who is married) and Amaka (looking for Mr. Perfect) represent every woman and we can all relate to them as they search for love, self acceptance and truth. However Onu s compulsively readable and entertaining book is anything but formulaic. Three women. Infinite choices. Loads of drama. Onu puts a fresh spin on published literature for the Modern Nigerian woman. Mimi Magazine, Jan 2008 --Mimi Magazine --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Product Description Smart, sexy and successful; These three Nigerian American girls have everything going for them, so why do they feel something is missing? The Mrs Club is a compulsive and entertaining read. Bandito, your German is good. mine isn't I'm from the French part, |
and he repeats words that sound like 'Bleep me', but I am sure he says something different. what is it? |
thank you! I love that song, Nigerian music is hooooottttt! ![]() |
a English-nigerian couple has been married for ten years. the girl is not able to get pregnant. they think about adopting a child. but all of a sudden, adoption is not enough anymore for the guy. he needs his own child. but he is against in vitro fertilization (the church!) he suggests to go to Nigeria and find a surrogate mother. or a second wife, I don't really know. his English wife is as unhappy as somebody can be. what about their love, their marriage, she thinks about letting him go, find a woman, get the child and come back to her. with the child so they raise it together. but which Nigerian woman would agree to that? are they so desperate that they have to accept such deals? |
who knows that song? the words are something like: I've never seen a girl pass u fine. if you pass for road every other girl for dat road must bow, |
izeek: busi-bodi:no, but after reading here that a guy is concerned about getting married to a girl that is a single year older than him, a difference of four, five years seems to be an eternety. |
Bandito, they're very creative when it comes to making money, maybe you ask around. ![]() |
kimba:and so what? he or she would just not be here, an abortion must be a very difficult thing for any woman. I cannot imagine that any woman does it light-heartet or frivolously! a woman should have the right to decide if she wants the child or not. what if she got pregnant through rape? that's why I am against criminalizing those women. they are not criminals or murderers! since there is pregnancy there is abortion. women have always known how to do it. by making it a crime, these women will not stop doing it. but they will have to do it illegally and that is usually not well done, eg not in a hospital or by a doctor, when does life begin? that's a very ethical question and cannot be answered here. I am against abortion. I am sorry for these women who are pregnant and cannot enjoy it. but I am also very much against a law deciding over my body. |
baby-mi:what you said about Love and Respect is nice and beautiful. But as long as people think Aids / Hiv is curable, the desease will never be taken seriously enough! it's a very dangerous thing to say. |
busi-bodi, as I said, I am married. I had the child before. but my friend hast to kids. and she's in love with a very young guy without any kids. |
I got my period when I was almost 16. and I've used 'ob Tampons' from the very first day on. I don't like pads: I don't like to see the blood and the smell. Tampons are so clean and discrete that you even forget about your menstruation. ![]() |
sista-jay, my husband married me although I had a child already. but I see that it's not all that easy for him to deal with that, |
But why do they have to mess their selves up? and I think it is even good for those clean women that they keep up their pride and they are even seeing the reward.as you might have guessed, I am not a Nigerian so I don't know. but what is 'the reward'? sb said, sooner or later the men go and look for the wild ones becaused the 'clean' ones cannot meet up with their needs. is that the reward? it looks to me as if men want everything. but nobody gets everything in life, and maybe there's something between 'clean' (=virgin) and a messed up city girl. are there not girls in the city, who are probably not virgins anymore, but far from 'messed up'? what about those? |
Dondav:what makes you think so? |
But we are not talking about Europe we are talking about here in Nigeria and how ladies even messes their selves up.so the Nigerian girls have to blame themselves when their boyfriends run off to get married to 'clean' women? |
but it would be very obvious that your wife is 'second hand'. or would you claim the kids to be ur own? |
do you use tampons? if not, why not? |
, yes, why? when they are tired of their European wifes or have achieved a legal stay in Europa, they go back home and bring 'a sister' from the village. |
