Satellite TV TechnologyRe: (diy) Design And Fabricate Your Own Satellite Dish Of "all Sizes", Ask How.now by swordswifter: 8:52pm On May 30, 2011
Hi everyone,
Whiles i'm waiting for blexxonmak to clarify himself,this is what I've found out.In finding your focal length,the shorter your "d",the longer your "F".I'm facing this problem right this moment.I intend fixing that tomorrow.I have a question,where can i find small hallow round(circular) pipes(metallic and very rigid ofcouse)to buy in Ghana?The medium sized iron rods are too heavy and the small sizes bend when their lengths exceed a certain distance.This post need urgent reply because i'll have to buy that tomorrow in order for my project to be at a level of between 80% and 90%.Thanks!
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: (diy) Design And Fabricate Your Own Satellite Dish Of "all Sizes", Ask How.now by swordswifter: 8:22pm On May 29, 2011
blexxonmak:
@swordswifter.The point A should be at the phase centre of the feedhorn further back inside the horn.Most manufacturers recommend a distance of 1/4 inch from the LNB cover.
@blexxonmark,
Do you mean it should fall about 1/2 way between point A and B inside the lnb itself in my earlier illustration or about the same distance before i get to point A in the same illustration(coming from the center of the dish that is)?Thanks.

According to a member of RDI forum the former software for SRT 4930 i.e. 112 of 14-4-2011 had some problems and was affecting the receiver in the following way:
** It can now record only 2 channels simultaneously instead of the original 3.
** There is a bug that seems to limit timer recordings to less than 10 minutes.
** The preview window while checking recordings is black blank and only plays if you press OK.
** Sometimes the stb freezes when you play a media file (F1 button).
** The audio is very low compared to SRT 4669 and 4910
I have noted that you have upgraded your SRT 4930 with the latest software namely 115p dated 25-5-2011. Kindly please find out if the above problems have been eliminated. Stopping a recording is what annoys me most because the receiver freezes completely. Also you can not preview your recordings in the small preview window on top right hand corner.
Ilish:
The DIVX function has always been there.I am just studying the whole software for now.Will make my comments later.

You are right.The previous version have been failures.I have discovere that even the 115p version still has a blank window for recorded data and only plays when you press the OK button.As for Audio, it still falls far short of what 109p could do.A studying it as well
Hi All,
I've also found some bugs in the new softwares of the 4910.Precisely the 243p and the 244p software versions.It pertains to the new button that allows you to switch directly to the scanning menu right from the dish setting menu.What happens is when you switch from the dish setting menu to the scanning menu and you return back to the dish setting menu,make a different change and try to save the settings,the receiver will go off and reboot on it's own without saving that particular setting.You can try it several times and it will still come out the same.Nowadays the errors are becoming a bit too much.

@Dodos,
You are right but i believe you'll be one of the few people who will understand when I'm finally through with what I'm working on at the moment.The question i asked was also as a result of another satmate wanting to know the length of the focal point for his fiber dish.I'm satisfied with the responds so right now I'm going to sit back so that Geometry can continue with the class.Excuse me for jumping the gun.Geometry,the floor is yours.

i don't see anything wrong with this question ,it is either you ignore a question or answer it. moreover not everyone on this forum can track hotbird or even nilesat single handedly or have a massive dish to do so yet. i just made a statement.
@Odilibe,
I like to be believe you are a very tolerant person hence your post but the fact is that, all of us here did English grammar and we understood the question perfectly. He didn't ask whether his dish size could receive those satellite nor did he read earlier posts.He just asked if his receiver could receive those satellites.If he was serious about learning,the first place he would have consulted is the user manual for that receiver.It would have informed him he was using an fta receiver which means he will be able to receive all satellites and watch fta channels depending if the receiver can support the various transmission formats.Even in the menu,i believe all these satellites are listed there with tps already installed on them.So tell me odilibe,is this a person we must ignore?We have to let such people know we won't stand for people who aren't serious.

tips of forums-study all your mates and know each of their capabilities.Address questions to them personally on this basis and you'll get answers very quickly.In our part of the world when you generalize a question it will be difficult for you to get an answer even if someone knows it(or you give your email).*I've tried it so many times and it hardly works*.African like to be acknowledge whenever they can.Will talk to you on the other side.

@Abdul010,
Ofcourse it won't work. What you need to know is generally an off-forum topic.Get to know forum members,build strong relationships and talk to them outside the forum and you'll learn more than you can ever imagine. That is the only way you can find what you are searching for.

akinis09:
plz can u kindly send me d procedure 4 badr 5,i hav d stuf wich i copy 4rm key2sat.net.bt i ve tried it usin 8282 in my srt4663x bt no positive result.u can send it 2 my email.akinis09@yahoo.com or akinis4u@yahoo.co.thanx in advance
@akinis,
Whatever you think you have from that site was not what i was talking about to the other satmate.There is a big difference between a cline and a key though they are both literally keys to illegally opening satellite channels.If you are using strong,just load any of the latest patches on that receiver to open 4 channels on that satellite(Badr 5).To open the rest of the other channels you have a very long way to go.

@Geometry and all dish fabrication experts,
After finding the focal point of your dish,should it fall exactly infront of the waveguide of the lnb at point A below, exactly in the middle of the waveguide at B or at the tip of the lnb at C for maximum signal acquisition to be realized?

This is the question you should be asking and this is the question i also want to know.After finding the focal point,should it fall exactly infront of the waveguide of the lnb at point A above, exactly in the middle of the waveguide at B or it should fall at the tip of the lnb at C?*The question goes to everyone especially those experienced in dish building*

will that dish track nilesat very well?
it's 3.2m and do have idea of feedhorn to use for the dish? and local scalar ring that a welder can weld here?
@Newtonn,
For that size,wherever you are in the Great Green Country called Naija,Nilesat is all yours.The formula for calculating the focal length of a satellite dish has skipped me a bit but you can google it just to be on the safe side.

Hi all,
It's been a while but by the grace of God all is going well.The project i was working on is almost near completion.The only problem now is that i'm a bit behind schedule so i'm looking for a 2.5m and above dish-base to buy.Please note,it is not the galvanised pole nor the pan itself but the seat on which the pan sits and which is fitted on the galvanised pole is what i'm after.I'm looking for one which is of an old damaged dish.It should be in good condition with little or no rust.It is for a dish i'm molding.Any satmate living in Accra and it's environs should call or text me on 0268972290.It's very urgent.

URGENT!!!!!!!!!!
Hi All,
I'm searching for IC number V58C2256164SCI5 or V58C2256164S to buy.It's a HIGH PERFORMANCE 2.5 VOLT 256 Mbit DDR SDRAM made by MOSEL VITELIK.I need 4 pieces of these.Preferably the one with the number V58C2256164S is most suitable.Any one in Ghana who knows where some are sold should kindly let me know(NB.I've been to zongo lane already) or if you are a technician(In and around Alaba market) and have come across some and can get me all the 4 set,get in touch with me and let's see how we can go about it.Thanks!
Contact: mens.eric@yahoo.com
Additional info:For those of you that may be wondering what the "hell" this is,in simple terms,it's simply the memory for the srt 4910 hd receiver.

@George,Gadotor&swordwifter i need your altmost experiece on cband, i join a suppermax cband to my ku eurovition at a straight line, 4 some time the c band is not working, then one day it pick up when i was tracking all the cband 4rm thaicom to intel 907 west was receiving, but sudenly the whole cband went off, i change the lnb to strong k6 but the same i change the wire check on the inclination. What could it be the problem, the set up is strong 2.4 solidpan motorised, currently iam receiving all the ku sat 4rm pas7/10,intel17,w4,astra2b,badry5,hotbird9,,w6&7,atlbird3,nile201,nss7, so i need your wealth of experience on what to check to make the c band work again. If i nail arab5a where we have eriteria tv the signal will be fluctuating try to do adjustment the whole signal will go. Pls your experience is needed on this currently the cband is red no one is coming up.
@Adex,
Change the diseqc port through which you are receiving your c-band signal.If it is still acting the same way,then your satellite tuner in the decoder is weak and need to be changed(that is,since you've already tried a different c-band lnb and it was still behaving that way).This particular problem of unstable signals usually occurs when you flip through your channels/channel list rapidly and frequently.Try the above and you should be just fine.*the solution/method needs a qualified technician*

All values were taken in the evening(a day ago) using a strong srt4910.Depending on the time of day values may fluctuate +/-3%.If you want to know the actual values that correspond to your receiver,just pick a sample satellite and channel with the same name as any of the above and just subtract the difference.Value should the same for all the rest.Also to know the dish size from which the data were taken,compare the information here with the satellites in my signature.
happy hunting.

@Swordswifter,
Congratulations on your nilesat installation.I must say it is no mean feat at all especially coming from your part of the continent where we all thought its almost impossible to nail nilesat with a solid dish how much more a motorized mesh dish.You are truly a trail blazer in your own right and I'm sure all other gold coast members will have a thing or two to learn from your experience.
One quick thought though:You are more likely to suffer from signal loss (as you are currently experiencing now) because of your mesh dish compared to if your setup had been a solid one.Maybe in the future you should consider changing  to a 3m fibre and you'll be amazed at the significant improvement it will have on your signal reception.I'm convinced that if you could achieve so much with what you have now then with a solid dish even difficult tps like cnn,nat geo,gear one,etc will be a piece of cake. I'm not even mentioning MBC packages because that will be a given.Not also that when you eventually get everything right with your installation you will be talking of above 350 channels.
Thanks George_D,
I'll keep your advice very close in mind.I'm on another project now.I've been on it for about 5months now.When finished,all will here about it.Thanks!

LNB Tweaking for Nilesat and Appreciations.

Hi all,
After tweaking my lnb yesterday evening,my signal strength shot up from 50% to 57%.I achieved this by pushing the lnb inside towards the dish a bit further and placing it halfway between 3'oclock and 6'oclock (using my previous post and image as a guide).This in turn has increased the number of channels from 111 to 172.I still don't have the MBC package though but have been advised to change the lnb and see what might pop up.One thing i've noticed is that,the signals are very very strong in the mornings and bad in the evenings.It is also the most unstable group of satellites i've come across(Nilesat 101,102,201 and Atlantic bird 4A).The channels can appear and disappear at any time just like that.Still it's a very exciting satellite to be on.

My big thanks goes to all who have supported me through all this time.From Cogil,Kungu,Patmos,Gkogolah,Sathob,Salamander,Fres h P,Katiklo,Iron 2011,kalemiresula,Fta.hunter,Ibaku,Bamboutos,the great KOKO and INNESAT91.I couldn't have asked for a much welcoming satellite family.

Finally if anyone has any useful info on this bird in terms of keys or tricks for OSN or Aljazeera,please share with me through my inbox.Send the info to mens.eric@yahoo.com (my dummy mail).I will be most grateful.Thanks
