His government wanting to be accountable organised a two years accountability forum at the nation conference center where millions were spent on specially composed songs, video montages, celebrity appearance. Live performannces and tons and tons of speakers singing an ode to the administration, but their was no desenting voice. The show was so ochestrated that it had the feel of a party convention than a accountability forum where you make your case,debate and compare notes with the opposition, is that democracy?

All these play into a larger narrative or unaccountability by nigerian presidents since 1999. Pres. Jonathan never engages in a media press conference with local media in the press session of the aso rock villa that is why when he goes abroad and is faced with a foreign media press conference blitz, he becomes shakey and nervous. The closest our president gets to meet the press is the "presidential media chat" which many belive is a well ochestrated show by state sponsored journalist.

This opinion piece is not an attack on pres. Jonathan, rather an attack on the isolation and high handedness of the nigerian presidency. The nigerian people deserve a debate among their current leaders and the opposition so they can see who has their interest at heart. The government should stop spending money on feel good propagander because you don't tell a man that he is cured when he still feels sick. He has to make that pronouciation himself. It is bad for a democracy where the president has never debated his opposition, even in an election debate, pres. Jonathan managed to slip out. Nigeria must demand accountability and the man who claims to run the most transparent government in history should address both houses of the nigeria national assembly and indeed the nigerian people, in the state of the federation address.

first of all, the story on the court throwing out the case is breaking so it's just on the t.v and radio, it's not yet in print media. When it does i will be sure to post it.

Secondly, if the battered man wants justice then he has to own up to the battering he also did. And together they will approach the one, which will lift their chamber immunity and they can get their respective jail sentences.

The police have filed a six-count charge of attempted murder against the Rivers State House of Assembly majority leader, Chief Chidi Lloyd.

The charges were filed at the state High Court, on Monday, though yet to be assigned to any judge for hearing.

Chief Lloyd was moved from Force Crime Investigations Department (FCID), Abuja, on Friday to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, in preparation for his arraignment.

Force spokesman, Frank Mba, who confirmed that the charges had been filed against the majority leader on Monday, said the police would go ahead to prove its case against him.

According to Mba, the six-count charge bordered on conspiracy, attempted murder, causing bodily harm and act intended to cause grievous harm.

Mba added that all the charges were filed under the Rivers State Criminal Code.

When asked by the Nigerian Tribune on the alleged high handedness of the police, as reported by the media, Mba refuted the allegations, saying they were false and baseless.

According to him, detectives from the IGP’s office were polite, civil and professional in dealing with Chief Lloyd, when he was being interrogated at the Force Headquarters.

“Lloyd was interrogated in a friendly and cordial atmosphere and I don’t know why people should insinuate what is not and what never existed,” he said.

Mba added that detectives handling the case were meticulous and professional, adding that it was untrue that the police tortured the detained legislator.

“I want to say that our handling of the investigation involving Lloyd has been as professional as possible. We have done everything humanly possible to ensure that the lawmaker’s rights are respected.

“It is not true that he is being manhandled. It is not true that he was tear-gassed and it is also not true that he was moved from the airport to the state command headquarters in a black Maria.

“As a matter of fact, we used an armoured personnel carrier to move him from the airport to the command headquarters. And the reasons are obvious, because of the peculiar nature of Rivers State politics,” he said.

Mba added that the police took precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Lloyd by moving him in an armoured personnel carrier from the airport to the state police headquarters, adding that the police had enough men on the ground to escort the motorcade carrying the house leader from the airport to state police command headquarters.

“I can also assure that it is not true that Chidi Lloyd is having any health issue. He is doing very well,” he said.

The NNPC os perhaps the most corrupt institution in this country. It is a bloody disgrace. The government had either privatize it or better companies should buy off their shares in NLNG before they infect this noble company with their corruption. Infact the only barrier between them and directly injecting corruption into LNG is shell.
