ANA DISOWNS ROOST FOUNDATION NATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has dissociated itself from the fake essay contest organized by some disgruntled and expelled members of ANA and pledged to take appropriate steps against their actions.

ANA National Publicity Secretary (South), Wole Adedoyin, said in a Statement in Ilesa on Thursday that the literary body has no prize called “ANA/ Roost Foundation National Essay Contest.”

According to the statement “We don’t know those claiming to be the organizers of the First ANA/Roost Foundation National Essay Contest. The organizers are criminals, literary insurgents, fraudsters, gun-runners, political thugs, land grabbers and throne thieves. The essay contest is part of their ploy to swindle Roost Foundation. These are well-known thieves parading themselves as ANA National Executive members. They are no longer members of ANA. The General Congress of ANA Expelled them last year for various listed counts of violation of the ANA Constitution and other forms of gross misconduct that have brought the Association into disrepute and public opprobrium.”

“We are using this medium to urge ANA members and the general public to disregard the Essay Contest. The contest was not organized by ANA. ANA shall investigate the illegal contest and deal with it legally,”

Adedoyin, finally urged members of the public, embassies, governments, corporate organizations to abstain and stop dealing with them. The body warned that whosoever transacts any business with them does so at his or her own risk.

DAVID, SULIYAT AND OLUWAFEMI TO HEADLINE IBADAN BOOK CLUB SEPTEMBER READING

Ibadan Book Club (IBC) has set aside 25th day of September, 2021 to host three Ibadan based writers and artist, DAVID O. LAWAL, SULIYAT ADEPOJU and ADELEKE HATTRICK OLUWAFEMI in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
A statement issued by both the Coordinator and Secretary of the club, Ayobami Odunyemi and Mary Ndukwo said the event would take place at the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Ibadan by 12PM prompt.
DAVID O. LAWAL is a graduate of Biochemistry from The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). He is a thinker, writer, conference speaker, and leadership coach.

David is a co-founder of KIST! and the founder of Friendship Leadership Institute, an organisation which powers his conferences, seminars and training programmes such as the Masterful Speakers Masterclass (an international masterclass where David and other speakers and trainers from the UK, USA, Canada, S/Africa, Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria train professionals and corporate executives—from around the continent—to become effective leaders through the mastery of precise and powerful communication skills).

He is the winner of the prestigious IDW Essay Contest (2016) and has won several leadership awards.

David treasures the years 2018 and 2019. That is because between July 2018 and June 2019, he observed his national service in Abia State, where he was the general parade commander for Batch 18B Stream I, and also served as the official NYSC trainer for public speaking, creative writing and entrepreneurship (and other related skills) for new Corps members. He also served Christ’s church as the General Coordinator (or President) of the Deeper Life Corpers Fellowship, Abia State.

So far, David has been able to speak to and train over 2000 leaders and speakers. He enjoys spending time with his masterful speakers in the Masterful Speakers Network, cheering them, providing honest and helpful answers to their burning questions, creating speaking platforms for them, promoting their personal brands and celebrating their wins.

David currently lives in Ibadan and travels to speak at conferences, to facilitate training seminars and to lead coaching classes around the country.

SULIYAT ADEPOJU (aka) Arike Elewi is currently the Coordinator of Egbe Odo Onkowe Yoruba and Yoruba language folk Poet and Poetry Chanter. Arike Elewi has written many poems and short stories in Yoruba Language and has read and chanted many of her poems on Petal FM (a radio station based in Ibadan). She is a member of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) and Fagunwa Literary Society (FLS).
ADELEKE HATTRICK OLUWAFEMI is a professional Artist. He practices both visual and performing Art. Adeleke Hattrick Oluwafemi attended Ifa Heritage Institute, Oyo, where he studied Art and Culture to become an Artist and a custodian of culture. He represents the fast growing Hope in Art world as a result of his honed skills. He has presented papers at the African Union Fora where he represented Nigerian youths. He preached about the needs for the world leaders to adopt Art as a creative means in solving the endemic unemployment among youths. He also won the first edition of the RYLA-U win business support. Adeleke Hattrick Oluwafemi has won many international supports for his projects for Women, Youths and Youths who are involved in substances abuse in the slums and refugee camp using Art as a tool to correct their addictions. He also speaks with over 1000 youths every month. Hattrick is a full time studio Artist who is involved in Art in the last one decade.
The upcoming book reading event promises to be an avenue for reading creative works such as poetry, fiction, book sales and signing, contacts with other readers and book writers in all corners of the state of Oyo, the statement added.
Prospective writers who have works in poetry, short stories and novels can also attend to read their works to other writers and readers. Membership forms and certificate of membership will be available at no charge to first timers.
Ibadan Book Club is an initiative of the Nigerian Young Writers Society. It was founded in 2011 by SYNW in order to contribute its own quota to the growth and development of the Reading Culture in the State of Oyo.
The Ibadan Book Club consists of a group of people who meet, meet periodically to discuss the book they have read and exchange those books. Club members encourage each other and learn to read with a critical mind, articulating their opinions about a particular book with others. Certain types of books not available or read receive attention through the book club.

Abeokuta Book Club, an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has expressed her preparedness to host Ogun state writers and readers on Saturday, 18th day of September, 2021.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Coordinator of the Club, Darasimi Adeoye in Abeokuta on Saturday.

According to the release, Abeokuta Writers Workshop will encourage participants to think of themselves as writers and take their writing seriously. It will also give them the skills to express their important thoughts and celebrates the fact that their stories and ideas matter and are worth expressing.

The workshop will also help the participants to: Discover themselves and their writing paths, Find out what their writing strengths are, Accept the weaknesses in their writing, Learn to handle critiques of their works, Meet people who share their passion, Improve their writing, Adopt new writing techniques, Get access to a mentor, Gain experience and get a lot of creative writing practice.

Abeokuta Writers Workshop is an avenue where writers develop their craft and come together in the spirit of discovery and fellowship. The workshop promises to explore the craft of writing in a way that is clear, practical, and inspiring. Also designed for writers who have a specific project started or visioned, and want to get busy writing, imagining and sharing their worlds with others.

Ademola Ayomide Miracle is a nutritionist, lifestyle therapist, a writer, a speaker, and a climate change advocate.
He is the CEO of Ourdiet Line, an organization that gives updates about the new developments in the field of nutrition and health, the organization also deliver lectures and teachings concerning healthy living and healthy eating through outreaches and online platforms.
He has written several poems and books so as to enlighten readers on several issues of life. One of his books is "My Passion, My Course", a book that teaches how to merge passion with reality. He was one of the over 60 writers from 14 countries that wrote a global anthology titled "war against fake news". He was an editor of an anthology on rape titled "GET CONSENT.
He has also acquired several trainings and certifications from institutions such as Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai., Nigeria Red Cross society and Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship and Health (ISERH) among others. He is also a member and ambassador of quite a number of organizations such as People of Possibility, Difference Maker Corporation, Global Warming Shield foundation, people of possibility and Ecogreen among others.
He is an alumnus of Federal Polytechnic, Ede where he earned a diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and currently an undergraduate of Federal university of Agriculture, Abeokuta studying the same course. He has received several awards especially in regard to his academic pursuit and he is currently the Deputy Campus Director of Hultprize in Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
He is a passionate young man committed to making Nigeria and the world in general a better place through health and nutrition advocacy, writing, climate change advocacy, entrepreneurship, leadership and any other opportunities that shall be available.
TEMILADE AJAYI
Temilade Ajayi was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State where she had her primary and secondary education before proceeding to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye for her first degree in Yoruba Language in 2014. She did her mandatory one year service at Federal Government College, Sokoto in 2017 and was retained as a Yoruba Language teacher till she resigned in April, 2021. Presently, she is a teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic College, Oke-Ilewo Abeokuta, her Alma mater. She is a teacher by profession and a writer by passion.

OSUN @ 30: ANA CALLS FOR ENTRIES

The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) under the leadership of Prince Bunyamin Sijuwade is seeking submissions of quality poems and essays from indigenes and non indigenes of Osun state in commemoration of Osun at 30.
In a press statement issued and signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the Association, Oladejo Haneef called on Osun state writers to lend their voices in celebrating the beauty of the state of the virtue.
Entries are only expected in Poetry and Essays from budding and established poets and essayists within and outside the state. Intending entries should focus exclusively on Osun state and only works relating to the theme will be accepted for publication.
Below is the submission guideline:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
• Only essays and poems are accepted for the anthology
• Entrant must specify the genre of his entry, that is, specify whether it is Poetry or Essay
• The essays and poems MUST be in the memory of Chinua Achebe, and may focus on his life, works personality, writing style or other areas.
• The essays or poems should be brief and concise —a maximum of 500 words for essays or reviews, and a maximum of 30 lines for poetry.
• Author’s information —location/contact address, phone number, e-mail address, and a short bio of no more than 40 words should be included in the submission.
• Submission is FREE and open to writers from any part of the world.
• Entry MUST be the original work of the essayist/poet.
• Minimum of three entries and maximum of five entries entry per person is allowed.
• Entrant may choose/write on any interesting title of his/her choice.

ANA CONGRATULATES NOBEL LAUREATE WOLE SOYINKA ON HIS 87TH BIRTHDAY
Camillus Ukah, President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has congratulated Prof. Wole Soyinka, a writer of global stature and the first African ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature as he attains the age of 87.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National PRO South, Wole Adedoyin in Ilesa on Tuesday.
According to the release “Soyinka has been a sturdy critic of successive Nigerian governments. He has criticized all forms of misuse of power in Nigeria by the incumbent government.
Nigeria is proud to have a talented and dedicated writer such as Wole Soyinka. He has contributed immensely to our country. He is an extremely special writer whom we hold high in ANA. We wish Prof. Wole Soyinka all the best and continued good health.
Wole Soyinka has been recognized worldwide and has won many international awards, including Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, Nobel Prize for Literature, Agip Prize for Literature, Benson Medal from Royal Society of Literature, International Humanist Award, Special Prize of the Europe Theatre Prize and many honorary degrees from distinguished universities across the globe. ANA under the leadership of Camillus Ukah congratulates the laureate on this special occasion.”
ANA finally wished Prof. Wole Soyinka a happy 87th birthday celebration and prayed that God almighty will grant him many more years of good health and strength to see Nigeria of his dream.
Wole Soyinka was born on 13 July 1934 at Abeokuta, near Ibadan in western Nigeria. After preparatory university studies in 1954 at Government College in Ibadan, he continued at the University of Leeds, where, later, in 1973, he took his doctorate. During the six years spent in England, he was a dramaturgist at the Royal Court Theatre in London 1958-1959. In 1960, he was awarded a Rockefeller bursary and returned to Nigeria to study African drama. At the same time, he taught drama and literature at various universities in Ibadan, Lagos, and Ife, where, since 1975, he has been professor of comparative literature. In 1960, he founded the theatre group, “The 1960 Masks” and in 1964, the “Orisun Theatre Company”, in which he has produced his own plays and taken part as actor. He has periodically been visiting professor at the universities of Cambridge, Sheffield, and Yale.
During the civil war in Nigeria, Soyinka appealed in an article for cease-fire. For this he was arrested in 1967, accused of conspiring with the Biafra rebels, and was held as a political prisoner for 22 months until 1969. Soyinka has published about 20 works: drama, novels and poetry. He writes in English and his literary language is marked by great scope and richness of words.
As dramatist, Soyinka has been influenced by, among others, the Irish writer, J.M. Synge, but links up with the traditional popular African theatre with its combination of dance, music, and action. He bases his writing on the mythology of his own tribe-the Yoruba-with Ogun, the god of iron and war, at the centre. He wrote his first plays during his time in London, The Swamp Dwellers and The Lion and the Jewel (a light comedy), which were performed at Ibadan in 1958 and 1959 and were published in 1963. Later, satirical comedies are The Trial of Brother Jero (performed in 1960, publ. 1963) with its sequel, Jero’s Metamorphosis (performed 1974, publ. 1973), A Dance of the Forests (performed 1960, publ.1963), Kongi’s Harvest (performed 1965, publ. 1967) and Madmen and Specialists (performed 1970, publ. 1971). Among Soyinka’s serious philosophic plays are (apart from “The Swamp Dwellers“) The Strong Breed (performed 1966, publ. 1963), The Road ( 1965) and Death and the King’s Horseman (performed 1976, publ. 1975). In The Bacchae of Euripides (1973), he has rewritten the Bacchae for the African stage and in Opera Wonyosi (performed 1977, publ. 1981), bases himself on John Gay’s Beggar’s Opera and Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera. Soyinka’s latest dramatic works are A Play of Giants (1984) and Requiem for a Futurologist (1985).
Soyinka has written three novels, The Interpreters (1965), narratively, a complicated work which has been compared to Joyce’s and Faulkner’s, in which six Nigerian intellectuals discuss and interpret their African experiences. Season of Anomy (1973) which is based on the writer’s thoughts during his imprisonment and confronts the Orpheus and Euridice myth with the mythology of the Yoruba and Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth, a fictional meditation on power and greed—at once a literary hoot, a whodunit, and a scathing indictment of political and social corruption. Purely autobiographical are The Man Died: Prison Notes (1972) and the account of his childhood, Aké ( 1981), in which the parents’ warmth and interest in their son are prominent. Literary essays are collected in, among others, Myth, Literature and the African World (1975).
Soyinka’s poems, which show a close connection to his plays, are collected in Idanre, and Other Poems (1967), Poems from Prison (1969), A Shuttle in the Crypt (1972) the long poem Ogun Abibiman (1976) and Mandela’s Earth and Other Poems (1988).

CALL FOR SUBMISSION: SIXTH CHINUA ACHEBE POETRY/ESSAY ANTHOLOGY

Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter) —the literary body that hosts Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture— is calling for submission of quality poems and essays from writers across the world, for her 6th Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology.

The annual anthology is published in honour and memory of Late Prof. Chinua Achebe, a foremost Nigerian literary legend and father of morden African Literature. The prestigious anthology will (as usual) be unveiled at the 6th edition of Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, which is slated to hold on 16th November 2021, at the Anambra State Central E-Library (also known as Prof. Kenneth Dike Central E-Library), in Awka, south-eastern Nigeria.

According to the Project Coordinator, Izunna Okafor, who is also the Coordinator of Society of Young Nigerian Writers in Anambra State and Editor-in-Chief of the Anthology, Chinua Achebe Literary Festival is an annual literary festival held by Society of Young Nigerian Writers in memory and honour of Achebe, in celebration of his life, works, contributions and legacies in the literary field.
The event, he noted, was initiated in 2016, and holds on Achebe's date of birth (16th November) every year since then, with the last edition held in 2020, during which the most recent edition of the Chinua Achebe Essay/Poetry Anthology —'Achebe: A Man of the People' —was published.

"It is with a view to mark this year's edition of the Festival in a more remarkable and memorable way that we are calling on both burgeoning and established writers from different parts of the world, to enter their quality and thematically-written poems and essays for this sixth anthology," Okafor said.

"The anthology is in honour of Prof. Chinua Achebe; hence, only entries that relate to or revolve around Achebe, his works, his literary prowess and legacies will be accepted for publication," he added.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES/RULES:
1. Only poems essays/reviews are accepted for the anthology.
2. Entrant must specify the genre of his entry; that is, specify if it is poetry or essay/review.
3. The poems and essays/reviews MUST relate to or revolve around either Achebe as a person (his personality), his works, his literary prowess/feats, life, legacies or other areas.
4. The essay or poem should be as brief and concise as possible — maximum of 500 words for essays/reviews, and maximum of 30 lines for poetry.
5. Author’s information —location/contact address, phone number, e-mail address, with a short bio of NOT more than 40 words should be included in the submission.
6. Submission is FREE and open to writers from any part of the world.
7. Entry MUST be the original work of the author/poet. ANY PLAGIARISED WORK WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED.
8. Only ONE entry per person is allowed.
9. Entrant may choose/write on any interesting title of his/her choice.

The much-awaited investiture ceremony in recognition of Chief (Mrs.) Bukola Ladoja’s intense effort towards the promotion of reading culture in Nigeria holds tomorrow Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, Lagos at exactly 10:00 a.m.

Ebika Anthony, Chairman of the installation committee in a release issued yesterday said the Agbaoye of Ibadanland who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shoreline Natural Resources Ltd., Agbaoye Kola Karim will Chair tomorrow’s Investiture ceremony while the National President of ANA, Mr. Camillus Ukah will preside over the installation ceremony.

Chief (Mrs) Bukola Ladoja is the wife of former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja. She is currently the president and founder of Reading Awareness Society for Development in Africa (RASDA), a non-governmental organisation launched in January 2007 to address the dying reading culture in the country.

Eminent and important dignitaries across Nigeria would be special guests of honour at the investiture of Chief. (Mrs.) Bukola Ladoja as the first ANA Ambassador.
In a statement issued by the chairman of the installation committee, Ebika Anthony said the event comes up next week Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, Lagos at exactly 10:00 a.m.
According to the chairman of the installation committee, Mr. Anthony Ebika said that the novel idea of making Mrs. Bukola Ladoja ANA Ambassador was pronounced by the President of ANA, Mr. Camilus Ukah during the ANA 40th Anniversary celebration which ANA Oyo organised with a huge success from April 21 to 23, 2021 in Ibadan.
According to him, ANA is fully ready to play host to all invitees, including former Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja who is financially and morally supporting the installation ceremony.
Chief Mrs. Bukola Ladoja is the wife of the former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and currently the president of Reading Awareness Society for Development in Africa (RASDA).

Osogbo Writers Conference was organized by Osogbo Book Club in conjunction and support from the International Human Rights Art Festival (IHRAF).
Osogbo Writers Conference took place on the 21st day of August, 2021 at the Secretariat of the Club in Osogbo, Osun State Capital. The Conference was a day programme designed to guide and assist Osun state up and coming writers through the process of writing. It was a capacity building Conference with the theme: “The Business of Writing: Accessing Your Writer’s Voice”. The primary purpose of the conference is to help unlock the potential of Osun state based writers as “writers” and to help them understand and realize their writing potential.
Conference papers were delivered by five Speakers, namely: Mr. Sanni Basheer Abiodun, Mr. Ogunmodede Adeloye, Mr. Bunyamin Sijuwade, Mr. Oladejo Haneef and Mr. Afeez Olagunju.

Topics like: Key elements of writing (Poetry, Prose and Drama), Obtaining ISBN, ISSN, character development, publishing, editing, script writing, graphics design, illustration, electronic publishing, ghost writing etc. were covered during the Conference.

On the 31st of July 2021, Ibadan Book Club in conjunction with IHRAF Book Club organized a one day practical creative writing workshop for writers in Ibadan and its environs. The Workshop was sponsored by the International Human Rights Festival (IHRAF).
Ibadan Creative writing workshop was an avenue which provided an opportunity for writers to develop and refine their writing skills.
The workshop took place at the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The objectives of the workshop were aim at honing, enhancing and improving the skills/capacity of up and coming writers, editors, publishers and bloggers, among others. It also helped the participants deepen their understanding of writing and develop distinctive writing voices. It enabled the participants to also explore the types of writing in which they are particularly interested.
Speakers that delivered lectures include: Dr. Bartholomew Akpah, Mr. Jide Ogunlana, Mr. Sulaiman Idris Bankole, Mr. Folarin Olaniyi and Miss Phebean Folarin.
The workshop touched on key elements of E-Book Production and Publishing, writing (poetry, Prose and Drama), publishing, editing, scriptwriting, graphics design, illustration, electronic publishing, ghost writing etc.

OSUN CVR EXERCISE: IPAC COMMITTEE RELEASES FORENSIC REPORT AFTER MEETING WITH OSUN INEC REC


A 3-man committee constituted to look into the spurious allegations raised by a faceless group on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration Exercise in Osun state has released their report after meeting with the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje.

This was contained in a press release issued by IPAC Chairman, Mr. Wale Adebayo who is also the State Chairman of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Tuesday in Osogbo.

The Committee headed by Engr Femi Adesuyi who is also IPAC State Deputy Chairman and the Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party in the state confirmed the earlier claim of IPAC Chairman that the allegations raised by the faceless group against INEC was baseless and biased.

Other Members of the committee which included Pastor Popoola Olatunji of APGA (IPAC state PRO), and Alhaji Olaniyi Abass (Representative of SDP) also substantiated the Committee Chairman’s report.

Some of the reasons given by the INEC boss include: influx of students from the 41 tertiary institutions domiciled in Osun state participating in the registration exercise, also 80 percent of the registrants who are also digital savvy falls between the age bracket of 18 and 35 and selection of wrong/incorrect options during the registration exercise. Other reasons are also listed in the below release.

Osun IPAC Chairman under the leadership of Mr. Wale Adebayo urged Osun political parties and citizens to be guided by the below report and disregard any group or press statement reported to have been earlier circulated by unauthorized/faceless persons on this issue.

Sequel to my publication on the 27th of July 2021, I communicated my knowledge of some news making rounds about the increase in the total number of new voters registered in the ongoing Continuous Voters Exercise Nationwide.

I promised that IPAC would look into the matter and constitute a Committee to visit the INEC REC for Osun State so as to get clarity on why there is a massive hike in the number of voters in the State, as against her counterparts.

A 3 man Committee was constituted to this effect and they are, IPAC State Deputy Chairman Engr Femi Adesuyi State Chairman Zenith Labour Party, others are Pastor Popoola Olatunji IPAC state PRO, State Chairman APGA, and Alhaji Olaniyi Abass Representative of SDP.

They met with the REC and the following was the outcome of their deliberations with the REC. Osun INEC REC explained to IPAC the reason Osun State has alarming figures close to 200,000 as at the time of visit.

1. The REC stated that the CVR are in two phases, the first phase is preregistration exercise which is done purely online without any interference from INEC. Individuals register from their homes, and cannot be held for a number of voter registrations from a particular region or state.


2. Number of Tertiary institutions in Osun State: He said Osun state has about 10 Universities, 8 Polytechnics, 8 College of Education, 6 Schools/Colleges of Health Sciences, 8 Innovation Colleges/Institutes and 1 Monotechnics. Making a total of 41 Tertiary institutions. With this development, Osun recorded a high surge of youthful engagements in political matters.

3. He also said Majority of the registrants are youths. Further examination of the statistics shows that youth from the age bracket 18-35 covers 80 percent of the figures. And this can largely be due to the recent consensus from the Nigerian youth to get fully involved in politics, a course championed more in the South Western region of the Country.

3. Wrong or incorrect Registration option. He further revealed that it was discovered that most people chose the "fresh registration" option, whereas some of them are either for Transfer of Voters Card or Damaged or defaced Voters Card or Correction of Data. Since they mostly registered as FRESH REGISTRANT, it will reflect as a new registrant even though they are now. All the above options are available, but most still registered as new registrants.

HIS RESOLUTION ON THE MATTER.

However, Osun INEC REC made it clear that every registration in the CVR era will be sorted into appropriate Categories. And this will be done when they appear for phase two which is physical biometric data capturing.

He also told the committee that Phase two of the Continuous Voters Registration, which is where applicants are expected to show up for biometric capturing. During this exercise, multiple registration will be sieved out, and also those who chose wrong options will be corrected as well. At the end of the phase two exercise, the number of fresh registrants will be ascertained.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner then implored all IPAC members in the State, to educate their members, helping them choose appropriate options when filling the online registration. He Also warned that multiple registration is an electoral offence, and members of the public should desist from such acts.

OUR POSITION.

After listening to the State REC, and deliberating amongst ourselves. These were our conclusions:

1. That the Political parties give INEC a full benefit of doubt as touching this issue. Since it has come up with an intelligent reason for the hike in number, provided it ascertains its position of cross checking for any case of registration fraud.

2. That the Commission makes substantive awareness when the second phase begins, so that all corrections will be effected and the abnormalities regulated.

3. The commission also should ensure that the final accurate number of new registered voters be made public, via their website for all to see, after which we are sure all concerns would have been attended to.

4. That the Commission continue in its frequent briefing of IPAC on the progress of both the registration and other electioneering procedures as we draw closer to the Gubernatorial polls.

I am certain that with these measures in place, we will be able to go to the polls full of confidence that every party stands an equal chance at the polls.

I am always and will forever be committed to securing the interest of the people of Osun State, and I want every political stakeholder to keep supporting IPAC to enable her to achieve her lofty aims.

WRITER'S BLOCK CAN BE FRUSTRATING SOMETIMES ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE IS YET TO FIND THE TRICK AROUND IT – AYOOLUWA OLASUPO (IMISI)


WA: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START WRITING?

IMISI: Writing for me began as a spur, and what later transpired into a passion, then hobby from childhood. It began from the enthusiasm I often experienced from wielding a pen over the fresh page of a new book and I was notorious for always "wasting" money, buying new exercise books during my childhood days. As far back as I know, this art of buying new exercise books with the aim of writing something on it was one of my greatest sources of excitement as a child.

WA: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING?

IMISI: I have been writing since I was 8. As at primary 4, I was through with the final draft of my first creative book consisting of originally created stories, curated quotable quotes, riddles, jokes, cartoons and so on. I rewrote this book over and over until it was perfectly ready for print. My parents promised to print the book for me and even now I can still see the pages in my mind, with the calendar wrapped cover and my tiny handwriting in colourful pens. But the printer died and in those days too, writing and other art related talents were not often paid much attention to like it is today, so this was how I was unable to publish my first book at age 8.

WA: WHEN DID YOU START WRITING?

IMISI: As earlier answered above, I started writing 20 years ago.

WA: HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A WRITER?

IMISI: Yes I have; since I was 8 as earlier stated.

WA: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEW WRITER, SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT?

IMISI: I think I'm also just starting out and the advice I'd give all of us is:
We need to keep learning, unlearning and relearning. We need to not know so that we will be able to know; yet, we need to know so that we can be confident of our craft, able to teach those coming behind us.

WA: HOW DO YOU HANDLE WRITER’S BLOCK?

IMISI: I handle writer's block in different ways depending on the situation.
Sometimes, I let myself stretch beyond limit, melting the block rigorously with the wind of persistence over hours to days until what is hard begins to release droplets of ideas that flow in form of writing but at other times which is what I more commonly apply, I take the risk of letting the block block me out of my inspiration, until I find myself in a close where I forget I was in need of inspiration, going about my routine activities.
Then I suddenly realize that road blocks are often accompanied by sign posts indicating a new route, so I start to explore the new route of ideas, while the old inspiration returns with multiple and mightier muse.
But writer's block can be frustrating sometimes especially when one is yet to find the trick around it.

WA: WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?

IMISI: Majorly from my day to day life situations especially as ordained by God. My name Ìmísí means inspiration and according to Job 32:8, my inspiration is often God breathed, mostly through my life experience including the good and seemingly unpalatable ones. I believe divinity is a key to unlock creativity

WA: TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST PUBLISHED BOOK?

IMISI: I have published works in reputable journals but none in print yet. My first published work was "Saviours of savour", a poem written in the Christian Literary Hub's Anthology published in September 2020.

WA: WHAT WAS THE JOURNEY LIKE

IMISI: Full of ups and downs, building of confidence and sometimes the shaking of it; full of discovery and beauty, connection to great writers, opportunities and feeling of fulfilment, watching my art breathe. Above all, I've discovered that writing is a great tool for influence especially for those of us whose creative writings are mostly around faith and Christian living.

As far back as 2010 after reading the book, I was moved to dedicate my life to Christ. The book was borrowed but I couldn't resist scribbling the words of my dedication inside the back cover. I look forward to more of such books especially from faith based authors in our days. I'm currently reading the book the third time— my own copy which I purchased 2 years ago.

IMISI: I love writing poetry and creative nonfiction. I enjoy reading fiction too.

IMISI: Not really. Though I don't really like straightforward essays, I'm beginning to get a grasp of it through more creative forms like journalism, travel essays and memoirs.

A. H. Mohammed rated as a candid chronicler of young adult writing and shortlisted for the Macmillan write for Africa prize. His book, "Last days at Forcados High School is on the UTME required reading in Nigeria. This literary feat is super excellent especially for a resident doctor in training. Because I'm also a medical doctor, I would like to meet him to know how he's able to achieve this great record combining the duress of medical profession, more so in Nigeria.
The second reason I want to meet him is for my attraction for the group his writings target which is young adults including children and adolescents. If you read my bio, you will discover my love for this same age group.

IBADAN BOOK CLUB FELICITATES WITH JELILI OYELERE ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Ibadan Book Club has felicitated with Jelili Oyelere, the Public Relations Officer and Coordinator of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) Polytechnic of Ibadan chapter over his birthday celebration.
In a statement issued by the Coordinator and Secretary of the Club, Ayobami Odunyemi and Mary Ndukwo on Sunday in Ibadan said the Club joined Jelili Oyelere’s family and friends in celebrating the author of Awakening Dreams.
Ibadan Book Club also congratulated the celebrant on his latest publication titled, “The Cave of a Thousand Demons” which will be launched on the 7th day of August, 2021 at the Assembly Hall, the Polytechnic, Ibadan.
According to the release, “Today is your day and we cannot stay calm till we wish you well. It does not matter the kind of ink that is being used. A good writer like you knows how to bring something out of nothing. A good writer is known by his work but a better writer is known by what people say about him. Happy birthday to you sir.”

FT: It's my passion for art, I love creativity.

FT: Up to six years now, I started not long (smiles) those poems weren't poems though, as per standard.

FT: I figured out the talent while I was still in secondary school (laughs). I did help friends wrote love letters to their girlfriends. Hilarious! But that was how we started.

FT: I would say YES to this in capital, it's been my aspiration right from mum's womb.

FT: With good faith, accept criticism, be ready to learn whatever, wherever and from whomever and adapt the culture of reading, only readers, vivid readers would become writers, it's a gradual process.

FT: As for me, I do take the vacation as long as it demands.

FT: Moremi: the heroine of Ile Ife.

FT: Yes ! Moremi is the woman, "Moremi Ajasoro" After I've read series of epics written by Nigerian poets in honour of this great woman, I felt I owe her one too, she librated her people from the wild hands of the Ugbo, how she willed herself to the dreadful Ugbo troops, how she sacrificed her only son "Ela Oluorogbo" to the traditional river "Esuminrin"...I fell in love with her roles, I must confess and she worths the works that were written in honour of her.
WA: WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
FT: Everywhere, Anywhere, I got inspired most when I'm in trauma state, the best of my poems were written while I was traumatic and that's the truth.

BARTHOLOMEW AKPAH holds a PhD from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has taught English courses at the Department of Languages, English and Literary Studies at McPherson University, Ogun State, and Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, before moving to Liberia where he currently teaches at the Department of Language and Literature, William V.S. Tubman University.

JIDE OGUNLANA is a Novelist, Editor, Playwright and Professional Publisher, Two of Ogunlana’s plays, Verbal Violence and Clash of the Gods have been successfully staged in the Arts Theatre of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and they are being read at The Polytechnic, Ibadan and some higher institutions in the country. One of his short stories and extracts of his stories have also been published in some editions of ANA Review of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Ogunlana’s storybook, Primrose and the Kidnappers won the 2018 ANA Prize for Children’s Literature. Many of his books have been approved for school use in the current lists of books of Oyo State Ministry of Education.

Other publications by Jide Ogunlana include: Two Plays of Verbal Attack, Esin Amope (Yoruba) The Adventure of Three Wild Boys (published under a pseudonym, Wale Adewale), Primrose and the Kidnappers, Three Strange Stories for Children, Awesu in a Strange House, A Girl Called Corona Sofia and From Marriage to Prison (A Collection of Short Stories).

As an editor, he worked with Evans Brothers (Nig. Publishers) Ltd for some years before establishing his own publishing company where he now works as a writer, a rewriter and an editor. His work with the Evans Brothers as a Senior Editor exposed him to various works of great writers both locally and internationally. As an independent editor, he has edited outstanding works of many popular Nigerian writers such as the prose works of Dr Wale Okediran, the Secretary General of Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) and a former Member of the House of Representatives, the biography of a former governor, the prose work of Diipo Fagunwa, the only surviving child of D.O. Fagunwa and the autobiography of Prof. Samuel Olusegun Ayodele, a renowned Nigerian professor of English.

MURTHADA O. LAWAL is a graduate of Fine Art from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Eruwa Campus and Yaba College of Technology where he obtained his HND in Painting (1992). Afterwards he got a Masters Degree at the University of Ibadan.

The artist has worked in different capacities as a cartoonist, illustrator and graphic designer for numerous magazine, newspaper, publishing companies and multinational organizations, which include IITA, Ibadan. He rose through managerial positions such as Production Manager at the Melrose Books. Also, Publishing and Operations Manager and later Acting Managing Director at UNILAG Press and Book Shop.

Presently he is back fulltime in the studio, working as a painter, illustrator, designer, 2D and 3D animator. His commissioned artworks adorn public and private spaces in Nigeria and abroad.

Awards won include: NOMA Award runner up, Kobe, Japan (1994), TIG 1st prize Award, Canada (2003), Macmillan literature Award, UK (2006) etc.

FOLARIN OLANIYI is a writer and media consultant with experience in the global book publishing industry spanning over 10 years. He has in the past years worked with several young writers to publish their works to high acclaim. Folarin presently directs the affairs of The School of Media and Innovation where he teaches printing, publishing and digital media.

SULAIMAN IDRIS BANKOLE hails from Osogbo in Osun State. He is a Scriptwriter, Playwright and an educator per excellence. He is also a scriptwriter as well as playwright. He believes in educating our youth’s right by having the common sense to tell them the truth about where our country and continent presently stands. Some of his works are: My Destiny, My Choice. Hidden Sparkle, When Tomorrow Comes and other academic books.

FOLARIN PHEBEAN holds a B.A English Language and Literature from the University of Ilorin. She is a young lady of essence and value with the mindset of reading and becoming great in life, a lover of God, and a cheerful giver.
During her undergraduate, she was a member of an Editorial group that does editing jobs as a freelancer. She is presently working as an English Editor in Extension Publications Company, starting her career as an Editor at her tender age. She has the vision of pursuing a Masters Degree in the nearest Future.

Ibadan Book Club in conjunction with IHRAF Book Club will host a creative writing Workshop for writers, editors, publishers and bloggers in Ibadan on Saturday, July 31, 2021.
The objectives of the workshop include: honing, enhancing and improving the skills/capacity of up and coming writers, editors, publishers and bloggers, among others. It hopes to help intending participants deepen their understanding of writing and develop distinctive writing voices, it will also enable intending participants to explore the types of writing in which they are particularly interested.

ANA OSUN SETS JULY 24 FOR NEW ELECTION, SETS UP ELECTORAL COMMITTEE

The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) will hold its state election on Saturday July 24.
The newly appointed Chairman of ANA Osun Electoral Committee, Dr. Olaolu Olugbenga disclosed this to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Dr. Olaolu Olugbenga said the election has been scheduled to hold on July 24 at T. M. Aluko House, ANA Osun Secretariat, Osogbo, Osun State by 12:00Noon.

It would be recalled that ANA under the national leadership of Camillus Ukah on the 22nd of May appointed 5-Member Caretaker Committee headed by Bunyamin Zakariyah with Adeola Owolabi, Solomon Segun, Grace Godwin and Taliat Kola Oladipo as members.

The Caretaker Committee was recently constituted after the tenure of the outgone ANA Osun executive headed by Mr. Muriola Awosemo had expired since Nov. 3, 2019.

Following the dissolution of ANA Osun Caretaker Committee headed by Bunyamin Zakariya. ANA Osun Members on the 10th day of July, 2021 held an emergency meeting and set up an electoral committee that would conduct elections on the 24th day of July, 2021.

The five member committee has Dr. Olaolu Olugbenga as Chairman. Other members of the Committee include: Mrs. Florence Odebunmi (Secretary), Mr. Abdulwahab Gbadamosi (PRO), Mr. Adeyemi Adeleke (Member) and Mr. Success Alade (Member).

Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman of ANA Osun Electoral Committee, Dr. Olaolu Olugbenga, thanked ANA Osun members for finding them worthy to serve in the committee and promised to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He also promised to work hard to give the Association a brand new EXCO within the stipulated time frame even as he assured of a level playing field for all wishing to participate in the elections.

He finally assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a transparent electoral process that will meet the expectation of all ANA members in Osun State.

OKEDIRAN UNVEILS 'MADAGALI' ON JULY 29 2021
