Buhari tasks farmers on massive food production, says“no money for food importation”

President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged Nigerian farmers on the need to embark on massive productive agricultural activities this farming season as Nigeria has no money for food importation.

The president gave the challenge shortly after observing this year’s Eid prayer alongside members of his family and few presidential aides at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eid-El-Fitr prayer was observed in line with the protocol against mass gathering issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, while the protocol of social distancing was also exhibited during the two-raka’at prayer.

President Buhari, who spoke to State House correspondents, said: “I hope the raining season would be bountiful, so that we get a lot of food.

“I wish the farmers will go to farms and save the lives so that we can produce what we need in sufficient quantity so that we don’t have to import food.

“In any, we don’t have any money to import food. So we must produce what we are going to eat.’’

On the COVID 19 pandemic, President Buhari reiterated his advice to Nigerians to strictly adhere to guidelines and measures put in place against the spread of the deadly virus in the country.

He noted that the pandemic had reduced both developed and developing nations to the same level, and advised Nigerians to always be careful so as to avoid infections.

He said: “Nigerians can see that the COVID-19 has reduced us, both the developing and developed countries, to the same level. In fact, we have least casualties than they we have.

“So, it’s a very frightening development and I advised Nigerians to be very careful and take the advice of the Ministry of Health. Ministers of Health have been doing very well, speaking and educating the citizens on the deadly virus.

“So Nigeria, we should be very careful.’’

HealthVideo: Reps To Investigate Whereabouts Of Chinese Medical Experts by TA4TA4(op): 12:53pm On May 23, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW351gTGcv0

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, set up an investigation into the alleged disappearance of an eighteen-member medical team of Chinese

Nationals who were brought into the country in April by the Federal government. The Minister of Health had on the 14th of May, told journalists that the Ministry was not aware of the whereabouts of the Chinese team. The House mandated the probe of the whereabouts of the team, Tuesday, after considering a Motion brought on the floor by Rep. Dachung Bagos (PDP-Plateau).

The sponsor of the Motion recalled that on 3rd of April, 2020, the Federal Government announced that a 15-member team of medical personnel, comprising of doctors, nurses and other Medical advisers, arrived the country, along with a plane-load of additional PPE. On the 8th of April, 2020, a 15- member team of Chinese Medical Personnel arrived in the Country to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and were received at the Nnamdi International airport, Abuja by some Government officials, including the Minister of Health.

“Also that the decision to bring in Chinese Medical Personnel into the Country, to help the fight against COVID-19 by Federal Government, sparked a lot of controversies from some Nigerians who kicked against the decision, saying that the Country has enough doctors and nurses, who are supposed to tackle the COVID-19 Pandemic”.

He said he was further aware that in response to the controversies, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila convened a meeting between the leadership of the House and Minister of Health on 7th April 2020, the Rt. Hon Speaker insisted that the Medical Team must undergo the necessary checks as provided by the NCDC and also go on 14 days Isolation before any interface with Nigerians, adding that, however “on arrival 0f the supposedly 15- member Chinese team Medical Personnel on the 8th of April, 2020, the Minister of Health in a press statement while welcoming them, told Nigerians that; first of all, what the Chineses Doctors will be doing Nigeria, is capacity building to add to the body of knowledge of Nigerian Doctors and experts have, because there is no expert who thinks he knows everything, every expert will tell you that there is more to know and there is more to learn, especially if you are hearing from those who have had past experience about it”, as he quoted the Minister as saying,
” the visit of these team is going to be very helpful to us and am sure the most curious of all persons should be our own Scientist who are having many questions and even these ladies and gentle men are are already in quarantine, I have requested that they will be able to connect With our scientists and Doctors via teleconferencing, so we can start early to be able to ask questions and hear their narratives.”

The lawmaker said he learned that “before the coming of the Chinese Medical Team into the country, COVID-19 data stood at 254 confirmed cases with 44 successfully treated by the Nigerian Medical Personnel with only 6 deaths who, reportedly had other underlining ailments. Today the data stands at about 5959 cases with 182 deaths yet the nation has heard nothing as to the contribution of the supposedly Chinese Medical Team and their supposed medical expertise”.

The expressed concerns, that the Minister of Information reported in an interview with Sahara Reporters on the 4th of May, 2020, that the Chinese Doctors have started working in Isolation Centres, helping the country in capacity building, but the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Zhai Lljian, said the Medical Team was sent at the request of the Nigerian Government who had voiced welcome and gratitude to China’s help”, but added that “contrary to the statement above, the Minister of Health on the 14 of May, 2020, in a new twist reportedly told News Reporters not to bother his ministry over the whereabouts of the Chinese Medical experts who came into Nigeria to support the fight against COVID-19, while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the Minister of Health said the Medical Personnel are not guests of the Federal Government but CCECC, a construction Company”.

He said he brought the Motion, following the complaints and concerned of the Nigerian citizens, to duly investigate this issues as according to him, “it is our duty as Lawmakers and as representatives of our Constituents to protect the Nigerian citizens even while respecting or interacting with foreign nationals”. RThe House adopted the Motion in its entirety, mandating the Minister of Health, to give a detailed full status report of activities of the supposed Chinese Medical Team to the Speaker, as agreed during there meeting of 7th April 2020. The House also mandated its Committees on Health Services, Interior, National Security and Intelligence and Foreign Affairs, to investigate the reports of Chinese Medical Team were about and who they really are.

A Nigerian man in Ekiti state, after subjecting his son to COVID-19 testing still has not allowed his son enter the house. His reason is that he is not comfortable with the test taken and cannot risk him and the remaining of his household contracting the virus. His son had disobeyed his dads advice of not traveling from Lagos; when he (the son) got to Abeokuta in Ogun state around 11pm, his father still told him to go back to Lagos state; all fell on deaf ears, which prompted the father to take the son for COVID-19 testing when he got to Ekiti state.

His son Babafemi when asked how he got to travel from Lagos to Ekiti, knowing that most of the states he was to pass through had locked their borders, did not really disclose how he did so but claimed he spent virtually 12,000 naira in total for the journey, and the buses he traveled with carried 12 passengers, meaning they weren't practicing social distancing.

Though the test came out negative, the father who is a retired road safety official still insisted that his son should be put on 14 days self isolation which is the norm; but unfortunately, he does not have such a place in his house to isolate his son.

When the sons temperature was checked again in the presence of the father, read 36.2 which the holding the interview claimed was ok, and then told Babafemi to go enter his fathers car and follow his dad home; his dad rushed to his car and zoomed off, leaving his son behind.

Inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Sapele, Delta State, have taken to violence by setting some offices within the premises on fire to protest alleged inhumane treatment melted out to them by the prisons officials.

It was learnt that the prisoners’ protest action almost resulted into jail but for the prompt intervention of some policemen and soilders deployed from the nearby command and units who immediately brought the situation under control.

Daily Sun’s sources close to the scene of the incident disclosed that the inmates locked down all activities at the correctional centre until the arrival of the state Comptroller of Correctional Centre from Asaba, the state capital.

They were reported to have accused the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Marshall Mukoro, of bias against serving prisoners at the centre.

Specifically, the protesting prisoners alleged that only three inmates were freed during the visit of the chief judge to pardon some inmates in line with amnesty granted by President Muhammadu Buhari to decongest correctional centres across the country.

According to one of the sources, a prison official who pleaded anonymity, “none of the inmate escaped during the riot aside one building that was set ablaze by the inmates and about three offices were affected. The situation has been brought under control.

“The Delta State Comptroller of Correctional Centres has just arrived with the Police Area Commander in Sapele as well as the Divisional Police Officer. The Chairman of Sapele council is also here.

“What the inmates are saying is that they were not happy that only three of their colleagues were released when the state chief judge visited us some days back. They are demanding more people should be freed to decongest the place.”

The source, however, stated that the inferno had been put off by a combined team of firefighters from the State Fire Service and Seplat Fire Service.

Other sources at the scene of the incident further disclosed that “they (inmates) also complained that many inmates at the centre have not appear in court for over two years. Some also said they were not being well fed by the authorities.”

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, confirmed the protest by the inmates but debunked the incident being a jailbreak.

She added that normalcy has been restored to the centre

PoliticsPresident Xi Stop The Abuse Of Africans In China - Amb Arikana Chihombori Qua by TA4TA4(op): 4:48pm On Apr 14, 2020

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTzaDj8_toI

To my fellow African diaspora, a very good day to all of you.

My name is Ambassador Arikana Chihombori-Quao. Over the past couple of days I have received many messages, e-mails, phone calls, and video clippings of the abuse that is being meted on our fellow African diaspora living in China.

I have watched in horror Africans roaming the streets of China with their possessions after being evicted out of their homes simply because they are Africans. I have watched in horror Africans roaming the streets with their suit cases and at times with nothing at all, roaming the streets after being thrown out of their hotel rooms simply because they are Africans. I have watched in horror women carrying babies roaming the streets of China with nowhere to go after being thrown out of their homes simply because there are Africans.

I have heard many stories of Africans who are married to Chinese being separated from their husbands or wives simply because they were Africans. I’ve heard stories of Africans being forced to take Covid-19 tests simply because they are Africans. In many cases these individuals did not meet criteria for testing, nor had they been quarantined for the specified time period as mandated by the under-pandemic laws of China. Not once have I heard of any complaint of any African disobeying the under-pandemic laws of China. Why is it then that Africans are being singled out and mistreated? This situation is not acceptable. It is wrong and it will not be tolerated.

To President Xi I say, while you have enjoyed good relationships with all the African leaders it is precisely because of that, that you should do the right thing. You’re sitting in the big boy’s chair, and we are asking you to make the big boy decisions. We are counting on you to make sure that the Africans that are roaming the streets and have been evicted from their homes be allowed to go back home. We are also asking you to make sure that the Africans who are roaming the streets because they have been thrown out of their hotel rooms be allowed to go back to their hotel rooms.

As we speak President Xi, may I remind you that we have over 10 million Chinese residing in Africa where we have welcomed them with open arms. We have allowed the Chinese to establish themselves, to marry Africans and live happily ever after in our Africa. Why can’t Africans be awarded the same welcome that we have given to millions of your citizens?

What is being done to Africans in China is deplorable and the world cannot stand by and allow it to continue. While we understand that the majority of the Chinese are good people, they are good citizens in China as well as in Africa, however, sadly, among them there are a few bad apples.

A few bad apples that have chosen to give China a bad name. A few bad apples that are making China look bad in the eyes of the Africans. This is a situation that cannot be allowed to continue. President Xi, you are a good man and we would like the relationship between China and African governments to continue unabated. But the behavior that is coming from a few of your citizens will not be tolerated and we are counting on you to do what is right, to do what is just, and to of what is fair.

The Africans are no longer going to tolerate this abuse from the Chinese or anybody else for that matter. The African youth are enraged. We are asking when is enough going to be enough? President Xi, the power is in your hands. We value as Africans, our relationship with China. Please do not allow a few bad apples within your citizens to ruin what is otherwise a wonderful relationship between China and the African countries.

As a united citizens, as a United African citizens in the diaspora, we are asking you President Xi to do what is right, to do what is just, and to do what is fair. The children of Africa are saying, enough is enough. The abuse of Africans at home and abroad, be it in China or on the continent has got to stop.

You may not be aware of some of these abuses, but as a United African citizenry in the diaspora we hope that you will receive our message in the spirit with which it is being delivered to you.

You are a good man, President Xi, we trust you will do the right thing.

Coronavirus: Churches are not places of infection but places of blessing - Pastor Chris says as he supports relaxation of lockdown order for churches to reopen

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has reacted to the decision of some state governors to relax the lockdown order in their states for churches to celebrate Easter.

While preaching on Friday April 10th, Pastor Chris said the church is not a place of infection but rather a place of blessings. He prayed against anyone coming to church and getting infected.

The clergyman who last week said the lockdown in Lagos and Abuja was for the Federal government to install 5G network in the state, said any wise government knows not to trouble the church.

The best thing in any government is to always leave the church alone. It is always the best thing. The wisest leader understands that. They leave the church alone. When you trouble the church, there is a scripture'' he said

He had then trekked to a debtors house, but he wasn't paid his money. On his way back, he collapsed on the road due to hunger and exhaustion.

Good citizens of Lagos rallied around him and bought food and water for him to eat. On hearing he was trekking from iyana school to oyinboin search of money, the good citizens donated monies to support the young man.
