proudlysports: Npower should be investigated too. They came to us a couple of years back via these two sweet talking marketers who 'assessed' the house and gave us what in their opinion we should be paying for both gas and electric. At that time we were with BG and what we were paying BG was about 40-50 pounds (per month) more than Npower's assessment so we switched.

We moved from that house last year and asked Npower to send us a final bill so we can pay off. They sent us a bill of about 1500pounds! This is despite the fact that we had been paying the monthly bill! At the time I lived in that house, myself and my housemate were PhD students. We were never in the house monday to sunday (always in the research office). We NEVER watched TV (even though there's a TV in the house). Anything we wanted to see was available on the internet.

Anyways, till today, we have refused to pay the additional bill and Npower has not called or even mailed us about it. My advice is, run away from them!

None of the big six energy suppliers (British Gas, Scottish and Southern Electric, Scottish Power, Eon, EDF and Npower) are clean or straight .... Every one of them has a facet or more, of thier business practises which flouts legislations or are seriously flawed....... They are all being watched and investigated!

Be sure to check your credit report file, to make sure they have not registered a default or a CCJ in your names!

TV License

I paid a full year's subs. in my 1st year in Uni, however, i applied and got a refund for the period i was back home on holidays... Ever since, i have not paid a dime to the TV license folks... Everything else, i am happy paying for, but TV license, i doubt i will ever pay up until i start having kids .... My future kids will want to watch TV, be around the time at odd hours, possibly open the door for anyone at some point and maybe, get upset if TV license inspectors carry wahala come, and i dont want all of that ... LOL

For now, TV license folks can expect nothing from me till the landscape changes, family wise!

I cant get my head round paying for TV license, when the terrestial channels are crap .. The only real good channels i watch, i pay Sky subscription for, so why should i fork out more ... I cant justify it!

They wont catch me!

When you dont give customers enough information about the availability of options beyond SSE, and they dont know what is going on in the energy supply industry, they tend to stick around, thinking they are getting the best deal ...

Mis-selling covers a broad range of sales and marketing activities, it is not just about "overcharging" as you stated. The fine encompasses several wrong doings by SSE
