Thanks, the vehicle is less 5 months old, getting a new body is the main challenge now, someone was suggesting I check in Ladipo.

An Australian man has been sentenced to death in China for drug smuggling, the Australian government has confirmed.

The man was named in Australian media as Karm or Cam Gilespie.

He is believed to have been arrested at an airport in 2013 with 7.5kg (16 Ibs) of methamphetamine, also known as ice, in his luggage, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reports.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was "deeply saddened to hear of the verdict".

"Australia opposes the death penalty, in all circumstances for all people. We support the universal abolition of the death penalty and are committed to pursuing this goal through all the avenues available to us," it said in a statement.

What's the background?
Relations between China and Australia have been strained by trade disputes and mutual criticism during the coronavirus pandemic.

Australia angered China by calling for an independent inquiry into the origins of the virus, first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year.

Karm Gilespie is thought to have been arrested seven years ago while trying to board an international flight from Baiyun Airport in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

Chinese media reports say the death sentence was announced by the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court on 10 June.

How often does China execute people?
China refuses to disclose how many people it executes. Rights group Amnesty International believes thousands are killed every year. The sentence is carried out by lethal injection or by firing squad.

At least a dozen foreigners have been executed for drug-related offences, and many more are on death row.

One of the most high-profile cases involved British man Akmal Shaikh, who was executed in 2009 despite claims he was mentally ill and an appeal for clemency from the UK prime minister.

Australians have been sentenced to death previously, including Bengali Sherrif in 2015. Sherrif was arrested at Guangzhou airport after trying to smuggle methamphetamine between China and Australia.

At the time, Australia's public broadcaster said Sherrif's death sentence could be softened to life in prison after two years of good behaviour.

Australia also expressed concern when Canadian citizen Robert Schellenberg was handed a death sentence in January 2019 .

My challenge with Wike or any other governor or president declaring lock down here and there without conscious testing is half hazard approach. I would have love he uses this period of lockdown to implement what the Rivers State COVID-19 taskforce earlier proposed of visiting the hospitals to conduct random testing. With this, if any case is confirmed within this lockdown, effective contact tracing will help to minimize the spread.

We should not forget, if what we heard about majority of the covid-19 patients been asymptomatic, if nothing is done to discover any carrier during the lockdown, the consequence thereafter will be dangerous. I trust us when the lockdown is lifted, lots of people will throw caution to the air and the spread might be much. Even from my observation of the two days to the lockdown in PH, is so saddened that the rush made majority to threw caution to the air.


My point is that this lockdown will be more effective if effective testing is carried out especially by starting with the hospitals as earlier proposed.

Let's also try for some that have the capacity to help the less privileges around us not necessarily the online beggers but those living around us. This will ease the burden of lockdown on majority and together we defeat this virus by the grace of God

If they can do this, I am sure we will achieve more with this lockdown, few days ago, Shell/Npdc If donated test kits to Rivers State, I hooe they can use it and achieve their earlier plan.

The story of Rivers State is open if you have a neutral mind. The two LGA under lockdown are where u may consider to be called Portharcourt, over 95% of the companies in Rivers State and their workers live in this place, all the cases of Covid 19 were recorded there. So it makes sense to isolate this places properly not like what was observed in some parts of Lagos and Ogun were people were moving about during lockdown. Lockdown if done properly, we can beat this virus by simply quarantining and isolating those that are infected.

There is no motive here, all I see is a gateman (Wike) working hard to keep his home safe.
