President Goodluck Jonathan's proposed meeting with the parents of the kidnapped schoolgirls and five of the escapees has been cancelled. And President Jonathan has accused the #BringBackOurGirls activists for it. Mr Jonathan had been due to hold his first meeting with some of the girls' parents on Tuesday following an appeal by Pakistani rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai. He had planned to meet 12 parents and five girls who escaped shortly after being captured but without giving any reason, the parents withdrew at the last minute. Reacting to that, the President said in a statement: "Unfortunately, political forces within the Nigerian chapter of Bring Back Our Girls have decided to take this opportunity to play politics with the situation and the grief of the parents and the girls. They should be ashamed of their actions. Those who would manipulate the victims of terrorism for their own benefit are engaging in a similar kind of evil: Psychological terrorism," he added. Mr. Jonathan's spokesman Doyin Okupe said the president was "extremely distraught". "He cannot understand this. He cannot fathom this - that Nigeria's mothers will do this type of thing for children," Mr Okupe said. Meanwhile, explaining why the Chibok parents turned back, a source told TheCable that the Chibok community was already facing internal division over the planned visit. “One, they think five girls and 12 parents cannot represent the community properly when 219 girls are still with Boko Haram and hundreds of parents are still in shock. Two, they said they did not send them to Abuja to meet with the president. They came for a different purpose. To now seize the opportunity to meet the president would be like playing a fast one on the community that sent them,” the source said. http://www./entertainment/jonathans-meeting-with-chibok-parents/

https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Malala-July-2014-BellaNaija.com-02.jpg Pakistani activist on girl child education, MalalaYousafzai, who was shot on the head by Taliban in her country over her crusade on Monday, July 14, 2014 visited President Goodluck Jonathan and announced the donation of $200, 000 from her foundation for the education of Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram. Ziauddin Yousafzai, Malala Yousafzai, President Goodluck Jonathan, Coordinating Minister of the Economy Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Min of State Foreign Affairs Prof. Viola Onwuliri During her visit to the Presidential Villa, the 17-year-old disclosed that President Jonathan gave assurance that he was ready to meet the parents of the abducted schoolgirls at any time. In his remarks, President Jonathan said: “I personally believe that since about 50 per cent of our population are female, we will be depriving ourselves of half of our available human resources if we fail to educate our girls adequately or suppress their ambitions in any way. We are therefore taking steps to curb all forms of discrimination against girls and women, and have also undertaken many affirmative actions on their behalf. “Terror is relatively new here and dealing with it has its challenges. The great challenge in rescuing the Chibok girls is the need to ensure that they are rescued alive. The Govt and its security agencies were very mindful of the need to avoid the scenario in rescue attempts in other parts of the world where lives of abductees were lost in the efforts to rescue them.” https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/President-Jonathan-Malala-July-2014-BN-News-BellaNaija.com-01-600x498.jpg[img][/img] Her Birthday was on the 12th of July. She celebrated by making a wish with young girls The Director of Operations of Malala Foundation, Shiza Shahid, told State House correspondents that the President said to Malala that “he can guarantee that all the girls that have been kidnapped, including the ones that escaped, will be given scholarships to go to school in other parts of the country”. July 14 is Malala Day, a day set aside by the United Nations for the world to focus on putting all girls to school. She said: “I am here in Nigeria on my 17th birthday for a price, which is to see that every child goes to school. “This year, my objective is to speak up for my Nigerian sisters, about 200 of them who are under the abduction of Boko Haram. Malala said the Malala Foundation has raised $200,000 for the abducted schoolgirls, adding: “And we want to use it to contribute to those children’s education. https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Malala-July-2014-BellaNaija.com-01-600x600.jpg She watched the World Cup Finale – Argentina vs. Germany https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Malala-July-2014-BellaNaija.com-04.jpg Met with relatives of the missing girls http://www./entertainment/17-yr-old-malala-donates-200000-for-abducted-girls/

cold: Why don't they just rescue the girls and see if all #bringbackourgirls demonstrations would continue. If it does continue then we'll know the protesters had an ulterior motive all along. I'm at a loss why the intelligentsia that should be working tirelessly to return the girls to their parents dissipate what should be productive man hours trying to throw mud at people who intend on keeping this issue on the front burner. The spying business of espionage and creating misinformation should be channeled to where they are desperately needed. |
