Lets use it as a sacrifice for the blood of the innocent wasted across the nation during end SARS protests.

Motorists plying that route are happy with less traffic.

So if the soldiers shoot at computer village or the Seaport, the next thing is for these places to be shut down and destroyed?

Many of you guys don’t even give a bleep about the victims but you just want it shut for few reasons:

1. People don’t want to pay tolls again because we have been wired to think the government can provide everything so we should use it for free instead.

2. The people that think Tinubu owns it, they want it shut down to get back at Tinubu and have a bragging right.

3. Those celebrity that want to trend again with this.

4. People that are really concerned (unfortunately they are few).

One funny thing is that people are passing the tollgate currently and the only difference is that toll fees are not being paid. So I really don’t understand how people could disrespect the ‘dead’ and keep driving through the place if that’s the narrative they are pushing.
They are enemies in disguise, they want Lagos to shut down, what has lekki toll gate has to do with sars killing? Absolutely nothing

In 2015, the Yorubas had 2 options:
(1). To vote for Goodluck Jonathan
(2). To vote for Muhammad Buhari.
They chose the latter. Their reason was because GEJ was from a minority group in the South South of the country. They also accused GEJ of running an omo-ibo government & they protested against his gov. using the hashtag #OccupyNigeria with all their politicians, religious leaders, obas, entertainers, wole soyinka etc.
6 years down the line Nigeria has been littered with Fulani terrorists from Chad, Mali, Niger republic especially in the South West killing their men, raping their wives & claiming their ancestral lands.
Where are the #OccupyNigeria folks? Where is Tinubu? where is Tunde Bakare? where is wole soyinka? where is Jide Kosoko? where is that useless Oba who threatened people to vote for Buhari or be thrown into the lagoon?
The day we Nigerians stop choosing our leaders based on tribal and religious sentiments is the day we'll start experiencing a better Nigeria.

Politics › Yemen War:biden Suspends Arms Sales To Saudi Arabia And UAE by tamdun(op): 8:16am On Feb 05, 2021
The White House has suspended arms sales agreed by Donald Trump to two Gulf allies, the first significant move by President Joe Biden to reset US relations with Sunni Arab regimes heavily courted by his predecessor.

The temporary freeze puts a landmark deal to sell 50 F-35 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates, as well as other arms destined for Saudi Arabia, on hold.

Antony Blinken, the new secretary of state, has endorsed a series of Trump-brokered accords to normalise ties between Arab allies and Israel, which started with an agreement with the UAE in August. But he told reporters he was reviewing the commitments made in order to secure those pacts.
The Trump administration agreed the F-35 sale after the UAE agreed to formalise diplomatic relations with the Jewish state. Mr Trump also recognised Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed territory of Western Sahara, in contravention of diplomatic norms, after Rabat agreed to normalise ties with Israel.

Saudi Arabia had been expecting the new US administration to take a tougher stance after Mr Biden criticised human rights abuses under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s watch and vowed to “review” relations with the kingdom.

Mr Trump had put arms sales to Saudi Arabia — one of the world’s biggest weapons buyers — at the core of his relationship with Prince Mohammed, standing by the kingdom’s day-to-day ruler despite the brutal 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi agents. He also vetoed a bipartisan bill to end US support for the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen’s civil war.

In another blow to Riyadh, Mr Blinken said he would review sanctions imposed on Iranian-aligned Yemeni rebels after warnings that the measures risked triggering the world’s worst famine in decades.
While Mr Blinken accused the group of committing atrocities, he said the US should be focused on alleviating a humanitarian catastrophe.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE intervened in the war in Yemen to fight the Iranian-backed Houthis after the rebels seized Sana’a, the capital, in 2014 and forced the Yemeni government into exile.

“We’ve seen a campaign [in Yemen], led by Saudi Arabia, that has also contributed to what by many estimates is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today, and that’s saying something,” Mr Blinken said. It was “vitally important” to get humanitarian assistance to people in desperate need, he added.

While Mr Blinken said he had “real concerns” about some policies pursued by Riyadh, he also said the US “should do what we need to do to help defend Saudi Arabia against aggression directed at Saudi Arabia, including from Yemen and from the Houthis”.

The Houthis have fired scores of missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia, targeting airports and oil infrastructure.

The UAE, which had also drawn criticism in the US for its role in the Yemen war, was hoping that its decision last year to normalise relations with Israel would win goodwill with Mr Biden’s team.

Both the UAE and Saudi Arabia are critical US allies in the Middle East and supported Mr Trump’s decision to pull out of the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal and impose sanctions on Tehran.

In addition to US criticisms for its role in inflaming the Yemeni war, UAE has faced opprobrium for its support of Khalifa Haftar, a renegade Libyan general who has challenged the internationally recognised regime in Tripoli.

TAO11:
Good write-up! In any case, I’d like to correct some ‘mistakes’ in this write up:

(1) The word “Yoruba” did not originate in Ahmad Baba’s “Mi’raj al-Su’ud”, or in any of his essays.

To originate a word is to coin such word.

The Timbuktu writer, Ahmad Baba (in that essay) simply made reference to different groups of people using their well-known pre-existing names.

The embedded screenshot right below shows a scan of the manuscript folio in question from his original Arabic essay written in the early 1600s.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/12934148_5117c6d550154217817d7c66b5fa0fe6_jpeg_jpeg2a73d5172c14cf7a7da91ff200688e3e

The embedded screenshot which follows below shows a translation of the relevant section of the above Arabic original.

This translation below was prepared by John Hunwick and Fatima Harrak for The Institute of African Studies Rabat, Morocco in the year 2000.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/12934147_3336ed29985b499e82c4e140b455b9fa_jpeg_jpeg62ecafabb59c692d4ba471597fdf16bb

Clearly, the text shows from its phrasing [viz. “... the group called ... Yoruba ...”] that this is a well-known pre-existing name.

Ahmad Baba didn’t name us, neither did he name any of the ten groups in that listing.
•
•
•
(2) Yes Ahmad Baba wrote “Mi’raj al-Su’ud”, but not in the year 1627 (in case that was assumed).

Rather, this specific essay was written in the year 1615 in response to some inquiries on enslaving black people.

The Arabic text of “Mi’raj al Su’ud” contains the precise year [and month] of its writing (in the Islamic/Hijri calendar obviously) as highlighted in the embedded folio below.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/13082305_6e49d8d129844a578af9272699e1586a_jpeg_jpeg2d5891d724a6428e2c0f4e6898bd60cc

The highlight in this folio (which is simply the “verso” of the earlier attached folio) basically shows the wording (in translation): “[The year] one thousand and twenty four [of the Hijrah]”.

When converted from this Hijri “AH” calendar into the Gregorian “CE” calendar; the year 1024AH falls into the year 1615CE.

The well-known formula “G = 0.9692*H + 622” proves sufficiently useful for this conversion.

In the light of my above expositions from Ahmad Baba’s essay of the year 1615, the anachronism and contradiction of the Sultan Bello Coinage myth thus becomes very obvious.

For emphasis, the year 1615 (Ahmad Baba) comes before the year 1837 (Sultan Bello). Lol.

And the word “Yoruba” (as the group name for Yoruba-speaking peoples) has been in existence prior to Baba himself as has been observed in that essay.

What then is the word “Yarriba”, or “Yarba”, etc., and what is its connection with Sultan Bello??

Captain Hugh Clapperton who was an acquaintance of Sultan Bello of Sokoto informs us in his 1829 publication on this.

He noted that “Yarriba” is simply the Arab’s and the Hausa’s articulation of the evidently pre-existing name “Yoruba”. To quote Clapperton’s precise words, he writes:

“Having seen the whole of the baggage off, we started in the evening, and proceeded on our journey. We learned in fact that we were not now in the king of Badagry's territory, but in a district of Eyeo [Ọ̀yọ́], which is called Yarriba by the Arabs and people of Houssa, and that the name of the capital is called Katunga, and that it is thirty days' journey.”

~ Captain Hugh Clapperton; “Journal of a Second Expedition Into the Interior of Africa”; (1829), p. 4.

Furthermore, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther also writing in the 1800s makes a note to this same foregoing effect when he writes as follows:

“European Travellers obtained the name Katanga from Hausa People. Yarriba, or Yaruba, is likewise the Hausa pronunciation: Yoruba would be more correct”.

~ Reverend Ajayi Crowther; “A Grammar of The Yoruba Language”; (1852), p. i.
•
•
•
In summary, the name “Yoruba” did not originate in the writings of Ahmad Baba in the 1600s. Neither, obviously, did it originate in the writings of Arabs and Hausa-Fulanis in the 1800s.

As has been seen in Ahmad Baba’s essay from the year 1615, the name “Yoruba” (in reference to the Yoruba-speaking group) predates the 1600s.

It is evidently our endonym from a long time ago. Don’t be fooled by modern day propaganda, people.

Cheers!

Business › Elon Musk Says His Start-up Neuralink Has Wired Up A Monkey To Play Video Games by tamdun(op): 11:43am On Feb 04, 2021
KEY POINTS
*Elon Musk said in an interview that a monkey has been wired up to play video games with its mind by a company he founded called Neuralink.

*Neuralink put a computer chip into the monkey's skull and used "tiny wires" to connect it to its brain, Musk said.

*"It's not an unhappy monkey," he said during a talk on Clubhouse, a new social media app gaining popularity that allows people to have informal voice chats while others listen in.
Tesla boss Elon Musk said in an interview late Sunday that a monkey has been wired up to play video games with its mind by a company he founded called Neuralink.

Neuralink put a computer chip into the monkey's skull and used "tiny wires" to connect it to its brain, Musk said.

"It's not an unhappy monkey," he said during a talk on Clubhouse, a new social media app gaining popularity that allows people to have informal voice chats while others listen in. "You can't even see where the neural implant was put in, except that he's got a slight like dark mohawk."

The billionaire — who also spoke about space travel, colonies on Mars, crypto, artificial intelligence and Covid-19 vaccines — said Neuralink is trying to figure out if it can use its chips to get monkeys to play "mind Pong" with each other.

"That would be pretty cool," said Musk, who is CEO of Neuralink, in addition to SpaceX and Tesla.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Neuralink's team of around 100 people is trying to develop an implementable computer-brain interface. Musk describes it as a Fitbit in your skull with tiny wires that go into your brain.

He said the aim of Neuralink is to increase the rate at which information can flow from the human brain to a machine.

Keeping up with A.I.

AI is only going to get smarter and Neuralink's technology could one day allow humans to "go along for the ride," according to Musk.

To illustrate the pace of progress in AI, the innovator — who believes that machine intelligence will eventually surpasses human intelligence — pointed to breakthroughs made at research labs like OpenAI, which he co-founded, and DeepMind, a London AI lab that was acquired by Google in 2014. DeepMind has "run out of games to win at basically," said Musk, who was an early investor in the company.

People are in effect already "cyborgs" because they have a tertiary "digital layer" thanks to phones, computers and applications, according to Musk.

"With a direct neural interface, we can improve the bandwidth between your cortex and your digital tertiary layer by many orders of magnitude," he said. "I'd say probably at least 1,000, or maybe 10,000, or more."
The cortex is a part of the brain that plays a key role in memory, attention, perceptual awareness, thought, language, and consciousness. The digital layer he refers to could be anything from a person's iPhone to their Twitter account.

Long term, Musk claims that Neuralink could allow humans to send concepts to one another using telepathy and exist in a "saved state" after they die that could then be put into a robot or another human. He acknowledged that he was delving into sci-fi territory.

In the near term, Musk wants to implant Neuralink chips into quadriplegics who have brain or spinal injuries so that they can "control a computer mouse, or their phone, or really any device just by thinking."

Musk said Neuralink will "probably" be releasing some videos that show the company's progress in the next month or so.

In August, Neuralink conducted a live demo of its technology on three pigs. An audience was shown real-time neural signals from one of the pigs, which Musk named Gertrude.

If there are ethnic groups that should understand Fulani agenda well, Yoruba is one of them having lost territory to them. Northerners, especially Hausa are another, having been conquered by them. However, if I tell you that I was not shocked in 2014 when I saw people from Benue, Southern Kaduna and some Yoruba campaigning to enthrone Fulani supremacy, I would be lying. I remember pointing out to the Benue lady the effect APC victory would have on her people in terms of increased genocide but she didn't seem to understand. We Africans should start having strategic insight and not live for our belle only. The reason Arabs and now Fulani are cutting wide swats in tears and blood from North Africa to the Congo basin is that we lack foresight. It is seriously dumb that in an age other Africans have realized this existential threat, foolish Nigerians are still empowering an ethnic group that plans to kill us all.
We had two choice, atike and Buhari, which of the fulani did you vote for?
