I got an email from a very disturbed fan a few weeks back. He was the laughing stock of his friends because he’d bought a fake Tecno phone. A few days later, I found myself in the company of some guy bragging about how customized his Tecno M3 was. I happen to own a Tecno M3 (which I nick-named “Lazarus” because it died many times but somehow rose each time) so I decided to take a look at this Mystery phone. Yes, he’d changed the fonts and UI (I really wonder why this is most people’s definition of “Customized”) but aside from those, it felt like a regular Tecno M3. Something I couldn’t put a finger on felt off….and then I figured it out…it was a cloned (fake) Tecno M3.

Are the IMEI and VC code a true test to check if a Tecno phone is original?

My first encounter with a fake (cloned) Tecno phone was with a forum member whose Tecno M3 proved mighty stubborn. I had to employ some dev tactics to get it to work but couldn’t explain why it defied traditional fixes, not until I encountered a fake one myself.

Just like you reading this post, I Googled “How to check if a Tecno phone is original or fake” and I came across many posts but all said essentially the same thing in many ways which – in summary – was for you to go to http://gc.tecno-mobile.com/ , enter your IMEI and VC code then select click Submit (as shown in the image below) .

As a Tech. enthusiast, I was very disappointed to see many well respected Nigerian Tech. blogs put up fancy tutorials around this and feel justified. The above IMEI-VC method of checking if a Tecno phone is original is just like:

Q: Please, where is the Tecno office?
A: Just look for any building with Tecno written anywhere on it and you’re there!

As ridiculous as that sounds, that’s essentially what the above method is.

I'm creating this thread to mention one of the many rotten things that carlcare engineers are doing.
If you take a font bricked phone to them, they'll say its a board issue ; bring N8,000 or more. Your phone is lagging, board problem. Anything that mere flashing can fix; board problem. If you then take a phone that has a board issue, they wont have the parts for months or they'll ask you to do their ripoff swap for chicken change.
Why would a company feed so greedily off its own customers?
I've sat with quite a number of 'carlcare engineers' and to tell you the truth, the bulk of them are less than average upstairs at their jobs.
Dont even get me started on Tecno devices. Their peak (if you ask me) was the R7 and their best tab was the N9. You see everything after is just dust bin.

I learnt that Team H0vatek is giving away some of this for free. has anybody got one and tested it?

Nobody is trying to spoil their hustle. If NL punishes others for similar actions, why shouldn't they be called to order? I don't own a website but I know how many website links get blocked every day on NL for even half of what they're doing

Do you know how many websites have been banned on NL for half of what carlcare reps are doing? If another website said do this but visit my website @ ..... if you need more help , for every single post, no be ban go end am? Didn't Konga links get banned here? and is Konga not a big brand? Why then should. carlcare reps not help us in any meaningful way but freely promote their business without any warning from mods?
I'm not advocating for their ban, what I'm saying is if others have got banned for the same thing then why are they going unchecked?

Please, I would like you to have more helpful articles or videos that can help your users beside always asking them to visit. See Blackberry, Samsung, Apple and CO. they have support forums where they share helpful tutorials. You guys should do something similar
