zaineey:
Jollof spaghetti originates from jollof rice and there is no party you’ll attend without jollof rice to be eaten. It is common to prepare jollof spaghetti with tomato stew or paste but it’s more delicious, tasty and nutritious when you add vegetables.

I love spaghetti so much that I can prepare it in many ways with little changes in ingredients. This recipe on how to cook jollof spaghetti with vegetables is one of my favourites and I’ll like to share with you.

How do you cook your spaghetti? Maybe not as delicious as mine, lol, you can only get your answer after trying this jollof spaghetti recipe.

Education / Re: The Remarkable History Of The Airplane: How Man Began To Fly by Taniaa(f): 8:26am On Sep 23, 2019
reterdeen:

When you do something repeatedly for a very long time, you get bored and start wanting to experiment with other things right? Yes. At least, that’s what man thought when he began fantasizing about how to navigate the air like birds.

This had been a puzzling concept for man from time immemorial. He had made several attempts at flight using diverse means but to no avail. It wasn’t until the nineteenth century that significant progress was made in the attempts to fly.

But how did man actualise his dream of flying? Let’s take a brief walk through airplane history

Leonardo Da Vinci and the Ornithopter

Ornithopters may not be so practical in this time and age but there was a time they were considered to be the ideal means of flying. When the Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci became consumed with the field of aviation, he came up with the concept of the Ornithopter and designed a plan for it. His chief source of inspiration were the simple yet elegant creatures called birds.

Leonardo was intrigued by how birds soared through the skies effortlessly. As a result, he sought to invent a wing-flapping device that would lift man off the ground while attached to his arms. Unfortunately, Leonardo soon realised that the concept was not feasible as it would take more than just wings attached to arms for man to fly. The genius, however, sketched the device which we now know as the Ornithopter. For centuries after that, the Ornithopter would continue to be known as the device capable of flying but lacking the technology to lift man off the ground.

Sir George Cayley and the Conceptualisation of the Airplane

From the 15th century – the da Vinci era- to the 18th century, several concepts for flight were conceived but no significant progress was made. It wasn’t until the 19th century that the French Bayonet Sir George Cayley conceived the idea for a machine that would rely on a pair of opposite-facing wings, a propulsion system, and control surfaces. This idea was what laid the groundwork for the modern airplane. With this knowledge, George Cayley went on to build the prototype of the airplane.
A replica of George Cayley’s airplane prototype

Although, this model of the airplane was crude, it kicked off a new era that would see the rise of several machines capable of flight. George Cayley also correctly identified the forces which would indeed make flight possible: weight, drag, lift, and thrust. In the subsequent years, various inventors would begin using his model to test and experiment with the idea of the airplane.Wilbur and Orville Wright are the most notable of them for their success in inventing the first powered aircraft.

Two Siblings With the Passion to Fly

Following George Caley’s significant contributions to the concept of flight, simple aircrafts called gliders began to gain prominence among investors. By the late 1890s, Otto Lilienthal, the famous German scientist who was dubbed “flying man” had succeeded in flying over 2000 gliders. Unfortunately, Otto Lilienthal died in a gliding crash in 1896.

Inspired by the work of Otto Lilienthal, two brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright set out on their work with aerodynamic surfaces. This would lead to the creation of the world’s first controlled, sustained, powered aircraft.

Neither of the Wright brothers finished high school but they both had an innate capacity to understand mechanics. They had also gained extensive knowledge about bicycles which had gained a lot of popularity in 1896. In fact, it was their work with bicycles that gave them an understanding of the forces required to control a flying machine in mid-air.

In 1902, after several unsuccessful attempts, the Wright brothers built their first controlled gliding machine using the principles of aerodynamics. Following this success, they were convinced it was time to build a powered aircraft.

Their next step was to acquire an engine light yet powerful enough to propel a flying machine. No manufacturer possessed an engine of this sort, hence they proceeded to build their own. On December 17th 1903, the Wright brothers had successfully built the first heavier-than-air powered aircraft called Wright Flyer; they launched it on a hill with sufficient breeze.

The first flight, which was conducted by Orville Wright 10:35 am, travelled 120 feet in 12 seconds at a speed of 6.8 miles per hour. The Wright brothers conducted three more flights which lasted for longer periods of time and travelled at greater distances.

They had made history by building the first powered aircraft and this set the pace of a new era of foundation. In the coming years, many budding pilots would study the brothers’ work and build aircrafts which would eventually surpass the Wright Flyer. This successive progress in aviation has led to the development of the several variations of flying machines which we now know today. Aeroplanes, float planes, bomber, and helicopters are just a few to mention.

CRYSTAL

I looked myself up in the mirror while putting finishing touches to my light make up. I turned around to check out myself one more time when I was done and deep inside me I say thank you to my maker who wonderfully made a tall, slim, fair, set and beautiful woman out of me. Like my friends use to tease God actually took his time when creating me.

I checked my Casio Ladies digital wrist watch. I have 10minutes left to leave the house. I hurriedly put on my Christian Dior sling back heels. I use my finger to move the elastic sling to the back of my ankle. I did same for the second foot. All suit up and ready for work, I wore Calvin Klein's forbidden Euphoria perfume and left my room. Then I bumped into my Mum”

“Watch out young woman!”

“Sorry….Good morning mum”

“Otutuoma (Good Morning)my darling. Hmm.. looking good as always”

“Thanks mum” I said flashing my white dentition.

“Set for work?”

“Yes mum. You?”

“Today is teacher’s day, I won’t be leaving the house until 10am we have a small get together in school”

“Happy teacher’s day Mummy. You are the best teacher in the whole wide world” I hugged her. I’m not flattering her, that’s the truth and all her students adores her.

“Thank you my darling”

“And thanks for everything you taught me mum. Academically, morally, mentally socially, spiritually and all”

“I’m glad you never throw them into thrash nwa(child). Look at you, you’ve grown into a fine and independent woman”

“All thanks to you Mum. Now, I need to run”

“I made scrambled eggs and toast” She informed.

“For me! is it because today is teacher’s day? What happens to your ‘you don’t cook, you don’t eat rule'

“Let’s say I’m celebrating teacher’s day” She smiled.

“Oh! I’ll pack it, thanks. Bye Mum, see you in the evening” I said and gave her a side hug.

"Ka e mesia (good bye)" she replied.

I took my car keys and left the house. I turned on the ignition of my Toyota avensis and zoomed out. As the clinical data manager of one of the the top ten pharmaceutical company in the world, I had a major role to play in the company. Chemochezzy Pharm is a household name in Nigeria and all over the world, owned by a foreigner.

Fortunately for me, I got the job based on merit, no connection, nothing. I was promoted 10 months after I joined the company with a six digit basic salary and jumbo allowances. I was passionate with my job. With my second class upper I never thought I could get the job when graduates with first class also applied for the job. Although, I already had my masters degree before I got the job. Fortunately for me at the interview stage, I won the hearts of the Interviewers.

My job was so demanding that I hardly had time to run personal business like some of my friends. I went through trainings, I just concluded a program that got me certified by the Clinical data management. I'm currently running another professional course. The competition here in the company is very high. So you have to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, I mean work hard. You have to keep up with standard certification if you want to stay afloat, have the top post and be relevant in the pharmaceutical industry at large. I willing to do all this because I love what I do, I love my job. I have big dreams. I want to be a consultant so I plan on starting my PhD soon. There are heights I want to achieve.

In few years time I see my self as the minister for health at state level and more. Like I said I have a big dreams and I have to add value to myself, so I need all the necessary qualifications in case opportunity presents itself in the future.

My mum had two large stores in the house, she gave me one of the stores while she used the other to run her supermarket. I just opened a very big pharmaceutical store which is really thriving well but it is solely run by mum, because I don't have the time. Since I have enough money, My mum we never allow me leave alone till I get married and the truth is that if she allow me, I can’t leave her too. We only have each other. I decided to invest with my money. I also bought shares in the company.

I have a meeting that morning by 9:00am. I drove into my personal parking space. It was labeled CDM (Clinical data manager) I walked into the company using the Head of departments elevator. I stepped into the elevator tagged HODs only.

Click.. I was already on the 5th floor which lead directly to my office. My secretary stood up immediately she sighted me and walked up to me. She helped me with my hand bag and laptop bag.
“Good morning ma”

“Good morning Silver”
I stepped into my office settled down and prayed briefly. I checked the time I still have less than an hour to brush over my presentation. I had done my homework well and can’t afford to fumble. The CEO and the board of directors which consists of whites are all going to be present at the meeting. I had to give my best.
My secretary was still standing in front of me. “Anything?”

“Your schedule ma.. ”

“Cancel all my schedule for the day” I cut in. You of all people know how long the executives meeting takes. Only God knows when I’ll come back into this office today.

“I understand ma”

“Once you notice it’s getting late and I’m not yet back, just go home so it won’t be like the last time”

“ I’ll wait for you ma”

“If it’s fine with you” I said and dismissed her.

Let me use this spare time to introduce myself. My name is Crystal Monachisom Ejiofor. I’m 27 years old. Ejiofor is my mum’s maiden name. I answer my maternal grandfather’s name. I’m the only child of my mother. Well if you are wondering about my father, he doesn’t exist at least to me. He abandoned my Mum 28 years ago after putting her in the family way. It was later my mum discovered he had a family, a wife and a kid. She played and fooled my mother. He denied ever knowing my mum and denied my paternity. She took up the responsibility. Thank God she has a stable job. She teaches in a federal government secondary school and never married till date.
At 26 she was already a single mother who gave up her bright future for me. I never met him in person my I mum only she’s e pictures. He tried, he’s handsome no wonder he was able to sweep my mum off her feet. My mum is beautiful and fair even at age 53. I took after her, the only difference is that I’m tall while she’s average height and I’m very sure I took after that apologetic father of mine. Men still made advances at her even at her age. From the landlords in our estate, her school principal even some divorcee and widower in the church. They all wanted her for a wife.
The knocked on my door brought me back to the present. It was my secretary, she brought in a cup of coffee.

Education / Re: 10 Famous People Who Were Tagged Failures Before They Became Successful by Taniaa(f): 8:24pm On Sep 11, 2019
reterdeen:

History is replete with several examples of famous people who encountered significant failures before they attained success. These folks went through unfavorable circumstances that would typically discourage many from pushing for their dreams. However, they all persevered and came out on top.

Today their lives inspire many and they are celebrated around the world.

Here are 10 famous people who started out as failures but overcame adversity:

Stephen King

It is hard to believe that the man who would captivate the world with his horror fiction had his first novel “Carrie” rejected 30 times.

Like anyone would, King was discouraged after the series of rejections from book publishers and dumped the novel in a trash can. But for the intervention his wife, we probably won’t know Stephen King today. She retrieved the book from the can and persuaded him to submit for the 31st time.

This led to his big break and his successful career which will see the sales of over 300 million copies of his books.

Michael Jordan

Throughout his career, Michael Jordan has always preached the importance of learning from one’s failure and he has lived according to what he preaches. In his words:

“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Although Michael Jordan has performed amazing feats in his career and is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, he was once removed from his high school team for being “too short”.

Jack Ma

If there is one great example of a success story, it is Jack Ma. Prior to his success as an e-commerce tycoon, he failed multiple times in many of his endeavours.

He failed his university entrance exams three times, applied to Harvard ten times but was rejected each time and applied for 30 different jobs which all rejected him. On top of that, Jack Ma was the only applicant out of 24 people to be rejected by KFC.

Despite these failures and more, Jack Ma pulled through, ventured into the world of e-commerce, and the rest is history.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah has earned the title of “Queen of All Media” and is one of the most influential women in the world. Life, however, was not always rosy for the media mogul.

After landing her first TV job as an anchor, Oprah was fired by the producer for being too “unfit for television”. Like most determine folks, she went on to launch her TV show, The Oprah Winfrey Show which would rise to become the one of the highest-rated shows in history.

JK Rowling

JK Rowling started out as a divorced, impoverished, and depressed single mom who wrote when she was less busy. After managing to finish the manuscript for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, she submitted it to 12 publishing houses who all rejected her book.

A year later, a publisher agreed to publish the book because his daughter had read it and fallen in love with it. This would lead to more deals and the rise of the “Harry Potter” brand. Today, she is one of the richest women in the world.

Walt Disney

The man who would revolutionalise entertainment and pioneer a new age of animated films was once told by his newspaper editor that “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” Unfazed, Walt continued in his creative endeavours and would turn out to be the most successful animator of all time.

Albert Einstein

As a child, Albert Einstein had speech difficulties and was thought to be mentally handicapped. His life wasn’t any easier as a teenager. He had problems with his teachers and eventually failed his entrance exam into the prestigious Zurich Polytechnic (although he was outstanding in Physics and Maths).

Determined, Einstein intensified his efforts and passed the entrance exam into the Zurich Federal Polytechnic School.

He went on to win a Nobel Prize and is still recognized for how much he contributed to Physics.

Robert Downey Jr.

Known for his sensational role as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. is perhaps the biggest success story in entertainment today.

Initially, Robert started on a good note in his career, winning the hearts of many with his exceptional performances in his early movies and landing big roles. His career hit a breaking point when he got into drug use and was in and out of prison. By the time he got back into acting, many had written him off.

Nevertheless, he ventured into mainstream acting once again and began to gain more recognition until his role in ‘Iron Man’ which gave him phenomenal success. Today, he is not only one of the successful actors in Hollywood but has left his legacy as ‘Ironman’ – Robert is Iron Man and Iron Man is Robert.

Jim Carrey

For such a hilarious fellow, Jim Carrey didn’t start out in life on a happy note. He grew up in poverty and once worked as a janitor in order to support his family.

During his first stand-up performance, he was booed off the stage. He auditioned many times for Saturday Night Live but was rejected each time.

Eventually, Jim Carrey achieved phenomenal success in Hollywood and brought us some of the most hilarious comedy movies of all time.

Colonel Harland Sanders

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is one of the most popular fast food chains in the world but this wouldn’t have been possible but for a 65 year old man’s firm resolve to never give up.

After accomplishing little for the most of his life, Col. Harland Sanders eventually discovered his ”Secret” chicken Recipe at the age of 50. He was starting to gain success until World War II which led him to sell one of his restaurants. A second crash of one of his restaurants led to his bankruptcy.

At the age of 65, with just $105 to his name, Col. Sanders founded Kentucky Fried Chicken. He allegedly sold his idea to about 1009 restaurants before one accepted his offer.

Toks2008:

Unfortunately that is the secret to marital longevity.
"Who could have believed that as at the time when Chioma was in a courtship with Davido that David could be nervy enough to impregnate two different ladies. Regardless of this mishap caused by David, we've never observed on the media where Chioma castigated Davido of his wrongdom. Instead, she endured the most terrible glaring missteps of Davido"

if this is the "secret" to marital longetivity then I'm not interested

Sirvingeo:

you are mistaken. what difference does it make if he is not Davido. Chioma is the best definition of tolerance. why didn't davido other baby mama's portray such tolerance.
You're not serious
Will you allow your sister date a public toilet who goes about impregnating other women?
Will you allow her hang around him for 6 years and 4 months?
Will you allow her defer her studies or even drop out from school just to "be with him"?
David graduated, she dropped out.
See, the only reason she remained and her family consented is because he's filthy rich.
