This is a typical case of money laundering and you can always tell by the bad grammer and those phone numbers do not look authentic.
Jokes Etc / Re: Are You The Funniest Person In Lagos Or Do You Know Him Or Her? Showcase by tayorich12(f): 9:12pm On Sep 22, 2007
Two thing,

First of all, you havent seen the posters and before you decide it is a joke, did anyone think to call the numbers,
Second, just because I have UK as where I am based, does that really mean I am in the UK,

The show is real, and if you know anyone who has got skills let them know, it could be a chance of a life time and when it is all done and dusted, I will let you know what you missed out on.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Any Hope 4 3rd Classers by tayorich12(f): 12:39am On Sep 22, 2007
The man has a point,

Sometimes us naijas can be a bit too patronizing of ourselves blaming all of our troubles on the government, economy etc .

Yes, some of you are right having a 3rd class is not the end of the world, however in the present climate the 3rd classer is going to have a tough time finding anything and that not only applies to Naija, it is a universal thing. We live in a very very competitive world and eventhough we can cite some examples of some 3rd classers or drop outs being at the top (I believe Branson and Bill Gates are in this category as well) they still had to work extremely hard to get where they are today!

My opinion is that a university degree opens your mind to possibilities, it is just a pity that our education system is not as good as the western world because it is more than just sitting in a class and listen to some old foggie yab on about God knows what all day long, there is a lot of hands on learning and other methods as well.

3rd classer, now is the time to really roll up your sleeves and find out who you are and why you are here. Take some time out to discover you - would you consider yourself to be the academic type or are you more the 'trade' type? is there anything you are really good at ie creative, artistic, organising, good with numbers, teaching ie something that comes naturally to you. Once you find this out, then start to look for opportunites to develop this God given ability or talent through something like an apprenticeship - it does not have to be everyday. Or maybe if you believe you can still give the academics a go, by all means try again, but you are going to have to really knuckle down this time!!!

Career / Looking For Somewhere To Showcase Your Talent (comedians) by tayorich12(f): 9:32pm On Sep 20, 2007
Have you seen the posters in around the Lagos area?

Apparently there is a golden opportunity for the funniest guy or gal to come and showcase his or her talent, not only at home but in the UK or the US!!! (it is about time people in the west got an insight to Naija humour).

The way it works is that you need to pick up an entry form (N 3000), fill in as appropriate and send it back before the closing date. You will then be asked to attend an audition and if you are the kind of person that by your gestures or jokes can send people falling off their chairs, then you get to be part of the showcase and possibly get a number of gigs both here and abroad!!!

This opportunity is brought to you by RychWorks Entertainment part of the RychyRych Group (http://rychyrychinc.com/rychworks.aspx) - an organisation passionate about showcasing Nigerian talent.

Entry forms can be picked up from the following places

Make-Over-Effects, 8 Old Yaba Rd, Ebute Metta, Lagos and
1 Babatunde Allen Street, off Aiyelegun Rd, Ejigbo, Isolo, Lagos

For further information get in touch with RychWorks Entertainment on 08030533031 or 08023031423

Auditions are scheduled for 13th October 2007 and entry forms will be accepted up until 8th October 2007.

Hi Smartsoft,

Nice website. However one of the worse things a professional web designer can have is broken links. Especially the ones that are supposed to give us an insight to whoever is behind the website - try and sort those broken links out.

Freelance is right, you can have your entertainment magazine online. You could probably choose to do a ebook and sell it. Or perhaps start a blog which will then have a link to how people can purchase your services.

I forgot to take the bottom half off from the job description, ignore all that grammer about advising the CBI - unless you want to aspire to do that - nothing is impossible with God.
Career / Re: An Economist Needs Advice In The It Course To Take. by tayorich12(f): 11:31pm On Nov 16, 2006
Hmm, Economist,

I have copied and pasted this from my favourite website to give me an idea. Hopefully you have managed to get yourself at least a 2.2 which will be very useful. I would suggest that you go in search of privately owned research organisations, people who sell data, possibly marketing organisations as well. You can either approach them as a freelancer or see if they have any vacancies.

And if God wills it, you can also expand your horizons and look to the West African countries ie look for recruitment agencies that specialise in recruiting in the African regions, though you will have to ensure that you have a work permit.

You can also look at organisations such as the IMF http://www.imf.org/external/np/adm/rec/job/joboppo.htm or the WHO www.who.int/employment/vacancies/en/ OPEC www.opec.org/home/vacancies/index.htm

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Specific work projects could include:

assessing the economic impact of national events on the UK, eg the London 2012 Olympic Games;
analysing the potential job creation of inward investment projects;
analysing the performance of companies with a view to advising fund managers or clients on investments;

Career / Re: Should I Go And Work In The Uk? by tayorich12(f): 11:04pm On Nov 16, 2006
Frenchie,

All these guys are talking true. It is wise for you to secure something before coming down. I get the impression that a lot of companies are not quite sure that our qualifications and experience are authentic since there is absolutely nothing that we naijas cannot duplicate and we are well known for it, and as a result things might be a bit challenging for you at first.

But having said that, personally I think it is a God given opportunity to be able to leave your fatherland and experience something new. People who have not left their fatherlands, be they African, American or British have missed out on a lot. The British or American person who has not left his or her fatherlands behaves pretty much the same as the Naija person who hasn't left his or her fatherland, because they simply have not been exposed to something new. As a result they can be described as quite narrow minded when it comes do certain things (I mean no disrespect to anybody that falls into this category ohhhhhhhhh).

You can plan to come here for just a time and take all your valuable experience and knowledge back to naija and provide opportunities for others.

So my advise is for you to

(a) First of all really take time out and pray about this, ask God to order your footsteps so that you come during the time that favours you, since you already have the visa. It is not all doors that open for us that lead us down the right path. Some paths can take us to our doom did you hear of the Damilola Taylor case (little boy killed in South London about 10 years ago)

(b) Start looking for online recruitment sites that are specific to your experience and industry and start applying. There is

www.jobserve.com
www.planetrecruit.com
www.totaljobs.com
www.agencycentral.co.uk (this will give you all the list of agencies in the UK and tell you what industries they specialise in)
www.telecommunicationjobs.co.uk

(c) It would be very useful to come down here with as much money as possible at least £500. You will need this to travel, get a good coat (my broda e cold here ohhh) and other necessities.

(d) If you have a paddy down here that can put up with you for at least a month before starting to demand house rent

Hope this helps!!

Hm i hear you ojare.

Sorry to sound so philosophical (excuse the big big grammer) grin, but the best way to go about this is to talk to your creator. He created you for this time, to do certain things. Now I do not know your religion or how close to God you are, but if you are able to start now you wont regret it. Taking some time out and speaking candidly to God will reveal to you in your heart what to do with your life.

Though I must say that you may have a hint here. You are showing a preference for the more creative side of you ie music, design etc. Do you have any qualifications or apprenticeships or work experience in these areas? If yes, it is a good place to start something.

One idea is if you put a portfolio of all the websites you have created to date and start visiting companies, asking if they would either for you create a website for them, update what they currently have or train one of their personnel to keep the website updated.

I am not sure about writing a magazine because your grammer and spelling is not really the best! undecided

Hope this helps!
Career / Re: To All Uk Graduates by tayorich12(f): 10:23pm On Nov 16, 2006
1) WHICH UNIVERSITY DID YOU ATTEND?
Middlesex University

2) WHAT SUBJECT DID YOU STUDY?
I did a combined degree in Business Studies and Sociology

3) WHICH YEAR DID YOU GRADUATE?
1997
4) HAVE YOU FOUND A GRADUATE JOB IN YOUR CHOSEN PROFESSION? (EITHER IN NIGERIA OR UK OR ANY COUNTRY)
Yes I did

5) ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THE UK GRADUATE JOB MARKET. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO HEAR FROM NIGERIAN INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND ALSO HOME STUDENTS

THESE COMMENTS ARE ALL MY PERSONAL VIEWS AND NOT TO BE TAKEN AS GOSPEL
(a) The UK graduate job market is highly competitive.
(b) To get into certain jobs or industries can be very challenging and I do believe that there is a prejudice in the corporate world especially.
(c) In order to get into the corporate world you need to look a certain way and talk a certain a way in order to fit their profile and be quite brilliant.
(d) I believe it is easier for those us of us from Africa to try and get into smaller organisations and the public sector.

I must say that I disagree with Hustler's comments. Much as I would wish that our education was better than the UK's, I am afraid that our fatherland has a long way to go before they can be matched. For our system of education to be able to compete we would have to

(a) Seriously look at all the teachers and lecturers from primary education upwards and review the accordingly. Sack those who do not meet the standard and start paying those that do a very decent wage.
(b) Investing heavily in technology, books and teacher training.
(c) Invest money in local libraries. Each community in London alone has at least 3 local libraries. In some areas there is even what is called a mobile library, where a big van distributes and collects books.

Hope this helps.

Oyin100,

I think your reply is a bit cold, considering your little signature at the bottom of your post (ie helping people etc). We really should not write people off simply because they are not very good at expressing themselves in English. I think we should be more like the chinese who are taught in their language and learn English as a 2nd language. It would really help a lot of people.

Hey all,

Love the way all the comments are going back forth. A real good way of helping each other out!!

I think anyone who wants to write a good CV should check this link out http://www.alec.co.uk/resume-examples/index.htm. The format is really for Europe and the USA, but at least it gives good advice on
the types of CV that there are and how the right CV can really highlight your particular circumstance.

By the looks of it sopesupi, your CV is going to need some tidying up. I believe that looking at the samples on this site will help you out a lot.
