Food / 7 Foods To Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally by TeamMedicos: 12:31pm On Jun 14, 2020
High blood pressure is also known as hypertension, which means the pressure of the blood against the artery walls is high. High blood pressure can cause damage to the blood vessels, and that is a straight pathway to heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, and other critical problems in the body system. The high blood pressure shows no symptoms and can go unnoticed and remain untreated for years, and that is why it is regarded as the 'silent killer.'
There are many risk factors of high blood pressure that are out of human control, such as age, family history, gender, and race. The place of diet in normalizing blood pressure has, over the years, been beautiful and inexplicable. A diet plan can be drawn with foods rich in potassium, magnesium, fiber, and light in sodium. Here is a list of seven healthy foods that can help lower blood pressure naturally below:

1. Banana

Banana is a very healthy food that will naturally lower blood pressure. Bananas are rich in potassium, and it is better to take banana as a food rich in potassium than taking supplements. All you have to do is to slice a banana into your cereal or oatmeal for a potassium-rich addition. You can also have one with a boiled egg as a quick breakfast or snack.

2. Garlic and herbs

Research has it that garlic can help reduce high blood pressure by spiking up nitric oxide in the body system. Nitric oxide helps in promoting validation and the widening of arteries to lower blood pressure. Adding flavorful herbs and spices to one's diet will help reduce salt intake. Examples of herbs and spices include cinnamon, basil, thyme, rosemary, and many more.

3. Pistachios

This is another perfect food to reduce high blood pressure because it helps reduce the peripheral vascular resistance, blood vessel tightening, and heart rate. Research has it that a diet with a daily dose of pistachios helps reduce blood pressure. You can add pistachios to your diet plans by adding pesto sauces, salad, crusts, or eating them as plain as snacks.

4. Pomegranates

Research has it that juice made from pomegranate fruits are healthy drinks that help reduce high blood pressure over the short term. Pomegranates are fruits that can be enjoyed raw too. Drinking a cup of pomegranate juice once a day for four to five weeks will go along way to reduce blood pressure, the juice is tasty with a healthy breakfast. Still, one needs to very careful about the sugar content because it can negate the health benefits.

5. Olive Oil

This is an example of healthy fat, which helps to reduce blood pressure. It contains polyphenols inflammation-fighting compounds that help reduce high blood pressure. It is an excellent alternative to butter, canola oil, or commercial salad dressing.

6. Skimmed milk and yogurt

These are both essential elements of a diet for reducing high blood pressure. You can easily opt for yogurt if you don't like milk. According to the research made by the American Heart Association, women who ate up to five or more yogurt per week had a 20 percent reduction in the risk of developing high blood pressure. Try to add granola, almond slivers, and fruits into your yogurt to produce other health benefits, and when buying yogurt, be sure to check the sugar content because of the lower the sugar content, the better for your health.

7. Red beets

Research also has it that beetroot juice is very useful in regulating blood pressure within twenty-four hours. High in nitric acid helps in opening your blood vessels and lowering your blood pressure. It depends on your choice; you can eat the whole root, juice it, or have it cooked. Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a health care profession that helps people to restore and improve their strength, function, movement, and overall wellbeing. People who study and possess a bachelor degree in physiotherapy are called physiotherapist or physical therapist.

In an interview with a 400L Physiotherapy student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Makinde Ayomide states his reasons for choosing physiotherapy out of many health professions.

Why I choose Physiotherapy- Makinde Ayomide

Everyone has a story to tell, every course occurs for a reason, every incidence has a pathway, and when it comes to me, I also have an exciting story to tell.

I am a sports fanatics, I love watching football, athletics, basketball, and other exciting sports, and I always like a particular time when playing this game, guess what? I love that moment when a player is injured, and some good looking, well dressed with their kit, equipped with their instruments, and different modalities of intervention run into the pitch. Immediately you see a player screaming because of pain, relieved, and sometimes some can be taken out for further treatment.

You need to understand that smile when I was young watching them with some curiosity, I said to my self, these people must have watched Harry Potter and must have learned some magic. Every time I am watching football, I am always interested in that particular time when a player gets injured and needs immediate treatment. With a big smile on my face and with the heart to make the world a better place for us to live, I enquire further about the profession.

I have always nursed the idea of being a physiotherapist since my secondary school days.
Getting my nursed profession did not come so quickly, I got admission to study microbiology in 2012, and I kept on writing JAMB(A Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary-level institutions) throughout my stay in my given course of study.

OAU denied me three times, and I took the bold........

Health / 5 Ways To Build Your Muscles Without Going To Gym by TeamMedicos: 3:57pm On Jun 01, 2020
Building your muscle does not imply that you have to be a member of a gym or subject yourself to any special gear and buy yourself a piece of gym equipment in the house. Although if you have the means, you can do all that, it is better not to overwork yourself economically because you want to look fit. The results you will have when you do your workout by yourself in the comfort of your environment are awesome. Your body weight and commitment to your physical and mental fitness will do all the magic.
Although there are quite many methods through which one can build a muscle without going to the gym, here are five simple, practicable ways you can achieve this feat in no time without going to the gym, they are as follows:

1. Crunches

Crunches is a good exercise that can guarantee you a very strong abs. They add a very important pattern of strength to the body and they are, often times than not, a small plan, out of a concise plan to grow your strength for essential building of muscle.

How to do it:
Lie on a flat surface, either a mat or a carpet. Bend your knees so that they become flat on the floor. Cross your arms in front of your chest. Use your abdominal muscles to lift your shoulders up towards the ceiling of your room. Take a pause and go gently back to the ground. You may decide to pick up imaginary things from above you which makes it more fun. Breathe in as you move up, breathe out as you come down. You want to have a stomach like Ronaldo, thats the trick.

2. Squats
When it comes to building the body, squats are one of the very best exercises. They are good for the whole body. From the thigh to the knee to the waist as well as the stomach, squats are all-rounders. They increase your muscular portion.

How to do it:
Stand with your legs partly open and place your hand either behind your head or stretch straight in front of you. Start by pushing your butt downwards and bend your knee. Make sure you are looking straight with your chest out and a flat back. Your back should not be moved haphazardly throughout the movement. Go down as low as you can and then pop back to how you started by standing on your heels. Your heels are expected to carry your body weight throughout the program. Over time you can add some rhythm and countdown to it.

Health / 6 Ways To Prevent Teenage Pregnancy by TeamMedicos: 5:38pm On May 30, 2020
Earlier this year, I went to a nearby city to visit a colleague. As I was driving, I saw a grocery store along the road, so I decided to get some fruits for my friend. The person who happened to be the sales girl was a young girl around 14 years old. I was shocked seeing her with a large tummy.

At first, I guess she was obese, but the strange noise that emanates from a corner clears my doubt. It was her boss, raining abusive words on her because she found out that her responses to customers were dull and drab. From the harsh conversation, I heard the woman calling her “Mummy twins,” which sarcastically means someone that gave birth to a twin or expecting a twin.

SIX TIPS TO PREVENT TEENAGE PREGNANCY

1. Abstinence :Before a girl can get pregnant, there will have been sexual intercourse between a boy or man and the girl. Over the years, abstaining from sex remains the best way to put an end to teenage pregnancy and also protect the teens against the risk of contracting different sexually transmitted diseases(STDs).

As a young girl, you should restrict any other person from having access to some part of your body either by touching, kissing, or tickling because they stimulate the sex hormone, making your body have an urge for sex. The part includes the private part, thigh, and lips.

2.Contraceptive Techniques : Another effective way to prevent teenage pregnancy is by exposing teens to different contraceptive techniques. It is important to have adequate knowledge of different contraceptive techniques even if you have to indulge in sexual intercourse.

The primary aim of contraception is to prevent unplanned pregnancy by keeping the male sperm and the female egg apart. Below are different available contraceptive techniques for teenagers :

Use of condoms( Both male and female)
Use of Caps
Natural family planning
Use of Vaginal
Intrauterine device (IUD)
Use of diaphragm
Combined pills
Progesterone -only pills
Contraceptive injection
Contraceptive implant etc
