If forgiven by the family, the convict walks away. Alternatively, sharia allows the family to opt for monetary compensation and convict pays and goes free to live his life.
The sharia approach would be a better option for maryam sanda, if it were to be adopted because it's utterly senseless sending her to the gallows and leaving the innocent little child she had with her deceased husband without father and mother.
