UNKNOWN to most, the late and beloved Prof. Dora Nkem Akunyili (OFR) was born in Markurdi, Benue State on July 14, 1954 to Chief and Mrs. Paul Young Edemobi. She was blessed with six children and three grandchildren. Akunyili died in India on June 7, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.

Akunyili was an internationally renowned pharmacist, pharmacologist, erudite scholar, seasoned administrator and a visionary leader. She had her early elementary education at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Isuofia, Anambra in 1966 and then proceeded to Queen of Rosary Secondary School, Nsukka, Enugu State in 1973.

Her exceptional grades in the First School Leaving Certificate and West African School Certificate earned her the Eastern Government Post Primary Scholarship and the Federal Government of Nigeria Undergraduate scholarship. She obtained her first degree in Pharmacology in 1978 and got her Ph.D in 1985 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Dora Akunyili was a post graduate fellow of University of London and a fellow of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists. She was also a fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, member of the New York Academy of Science, International Narcotics Control Board, United States Pharmacopeia Expert Committee, Association of African Medicinal Plant Standards, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Medicines for Malaria Venture and International Council Control.

She served as director general of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) from 2001-2008 where she recorded outstanding successes. She brought in a new culture of excellence and honesty and as a result, the level of fake and counterfeit drugs in circulation dropped by a measurable degree.

Akunyili also worked as the Minister of Information and Communication between 2008- 2010 where she anchored the Re-branding Nigeria Project. Dora Akunyili, during her life time had the highest number of awards received by any Nigerian living or dead.

Frankly, most people especially the men, involve themselves in extra marital affairs. Married men now see it as a way of life. The new dimension now is that married women have become very easy to lure to bed. They say what a man can do, a woman can do better. Though I am not trying to justify a man having affair outside marriage, its wrong, but women over the years are known to be more reserved unlike what we see today. It is not news if a man has 2 wives but it is news for a woman to have 2 husbands. In the African set up, when a married woman have sex outside marriage, it either affects the husband or the children. I met an ex few years back who wanted us to get back to our old act, I told her it has negative effect, she told me to forget that thing. From her stories, she has been having it out. Months later, the son was killed in a ghastly motor accident. She told me a story of her friend who is also into it. That what she does is that when it is time for he to have another baby she smartly avoids the guy outside so as to be sure the child belongs to her husband after which she resumes.Another case happened to my relation. All the children became sick and could not get well with normal hospital medication. They were at the point of death before their mother confessed. My conclusion is that people should try and be faithful to one partner, though I know its not easy even to me as a person. And because that of married women always have repercussions, they have to think properly before venturing into it especially if they care about their family.

Some men now think it is natural for a man to cheat.. Someone will even tell you to prepare your mind because all men cheat. I refuse to believe that trash.... Do you think it's only the men that get tired of sleeping with one woman for the rest of their lives? The level of moral decadence is increasing by the day. Why won't there be chaos in marriages?

The unfaithful men will be blessed with unfaithful women... and if care is not taken you will train up another's man child . Yes... una deserve each other.

If you are a good man don't worry... relax your mind, pray hard, watch carefully, and God will bless you with the right woman who won't give you heart attack.
