Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday officially launched his re-election campaign, expressing confidence that he would secure a second term in office in the August 15 governorship election. Speaking at the campaign flag-off held at Freedom Park, Osogbo, Adeleke told a large gathering of supporters and party members that his party, Accord, would be on the ballot and emerge victorious at the polls. The governor described the campaign as a "divine journey to victory" and commended supporters for turning out in large numbers despite what he termed attempts by anti-democratic forces to frustrate the political process. "I assure you all that Accord will be on the ballot, your votes will count, and I will be re-elected as your governor on August 15," Adeleke declared. He said his administration was deploying all lawful means to protect the rights of citizens to vote and be voted for, insisting that democracy and the rule of law must prevail in the state. Adeleke also revisited the lingering local government crisis in the state, congratulating Osun residents on what he described as victory in the dispute. He accused some individuals of illegally occupying council secretariats and called on security agencies to withdraw protection from them. The governor specifically directed the Commissioner of Police to end support for what he termed the unlawful occupation of council offices and urged the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to account for council funds allegedly diverted in collaboration with sacked local government chairmen. During the event, several groups, associations and defectors formally endorsed Adeleke's re-election bid. The governor welcomed the new members into the Accord fold and assured them of equal opportunities within the party. Highlighting his administration's achievements since assuming office in 2022, Adeleke listed improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, water supply, digital economy development and fiscal transparency. According to him, Osun State moved from 33rd position in national education rankings in 2022 to seventh place in both 2024 and 2025, while the state also won the National Primary Health Care Challenge in consecutive years. He further claimed that Osun had reduced its debt burden by more than 40 per cent, achieved a top fiscal transparency rating and significantly improved access to clean water and public healthcare services. Seeking a fresh mandate, Adeleke unveiled an updated five-point agenda focused on youth, women and workers' welfare; infrastructure development; agro-industrial expansion; affordable healthcare and education; and an improved business environment for job creation. The governor in his speech also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, describing the president as "our son, father and leader." Adeleke urged residents to reject violence, defend their democratic rights and mobilise support for Accord ahead of the election. "We will vote, our votes will count, and we shall be victorious," he said. The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026. TEXT OF A PRESS BRIEFING BY GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE ON RECENT POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE STATE TODAY MONDAY, JUNE 15TH, 2026 Gentlemen of the press I invite you today for a review of recent developments as it affects our dear state. There were two court rulings today. The one at the Federal High Court, Abuja deregistering some political parties and the one at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, dismissing application for tenure elongation by Osun APC Yes/No chairmen. I congratulate our authentic elected chairmen on the Court ruling today. The dismissal of the elongation request conforms with the stipulations of the constitution. The judgment further validates the precedent set by the Supreme Court ruling that tenure elongation is unconstitutional. The Court also holds that the sacked chairmen have no legal foundation to file the case in the first place. Based on this ruling, it is clear the Yes/No chairmen's tenure, if at all they have any, elapsed October 2025. Based on today's judgement, I therefore call on the Inspector General of Police to direct the Osun state police command to stop its current support for the Yes/No chairmen. I specifically direct the Commissioner of Police to stop providing further security cover for the illegal occupation of the council secretariats by the sacked chairmen. I further call on the United Bank for Africa to stop its illegal collaboration with the sacked chairmen. We remind UBA that it has sworn to an affidavit in which it vowed that the entire diverted local government fund is intact. Based on this affidavit and today's judgement, we insist that the UBA must ensure that every kobo of the local government fund is secured and accounted for. We demand that the UBA allows signatories prescribed by law to become signatories to the local government accounts. These funds are needed to pay local workers who are in need of their pension and other allowances. We demand that all law enforcement agents should support the immediate restoration of the duly elected local government chairmen. This is the path of law and the constitution. On the deregistration of some political parties, the action of the Federal High Court is clearly an affront on the Court of Appeal, an abuse of court process and an open threat against the integrity of the electoral process. Our lawyers have taken necessary steps to right the wrong. It is on record that the Court of Appeal had stayed proceedings on the matter till October. We are therefore surprised that the lower court proceeded to act on a matter already acted upon by the higher court. I call on Osun people to remain calm. The judgement cannot stay; Accord will be on the ballot; we will be on the ballot ; and we will win resoundingly on August 15th. Our people are reassured that efforts by Osun APC to stop our re-election have failed. Our flag off rally is holding tomorrow. Let us troop out enmasse to grace the occasion. We will not be distracted. We remain focussed on winning. By God's grace and the people's support, continuity shall prevail come August 15th. I thank you for listening. OOPA |

Tension in Osun as Police Allegedly Arrest NUJ Secretary, Akindoju. The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, was reportedly arrested by police officers at his residence, sparking concern among media practitioners and civil society stakeholders in the state. According to reports, armed policemen allegedly stormed Akindoju's apartment this morning, forcibly gained access to the premises, and whisked him away to an undisclosed location. The circumstances surrounding the operation remain unclear, as family members and colleagues were reportedly left without immediate information regarding his whereabouts following the arrest. Reacting to inquiries on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that Comrade Akindoju was not being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police spokesperson, however, did not disclose the exact location where the NUJ secretary was being detained, assuring that details concerning his whereabouts would be communicated as soon as possible. The incident has generated reactions within journalistic circles, with concerns being raised over the circumstances of the arrest and the need for transparency from security agencies. As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to provide further details on the allegations, if any, against the NUJ official or the reason for the operation that led to his arrest. More details are expected to emerge as the situation unfolds. OOPA |
How Governor Adeleke Foiled Bid to Stop Accord's Canvassers’ Rally- Adeleke Spokesperson ● Blasts APC Statement as “Bundle of Fake News” Osun APC is spreading falsehood and fake news about the hugely successful Accord canvassers’ rally because it failed in its anti-democratic plot to stop the event from holding. Giving the above clarification was the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed who decried the concerted efforts of the state APC to deploy the state police command as a tool to block a legally convened campaign and mobilisation event. Narrating how Governor Ademola Adeleke foiled APC bid to stop the rally, the spokesperson said the Osun APC launched a coordinated plot to use the police to stop the event from holding by clandestinely claiming to be organising another event on the same day as an alibi for the police to cancel all political events in the town. In what appeared like a joint operation, the state police command without consulting the state government purportedly issued a statement cancelling a campaign event in which the state governor was the chief host. The purported police directive was widely seen as a hatchet job in favour of Osun APC and a politically motivated decision designed to deny the Accord and its candidate their legitimate rights guaranteed under the constitution and the Electoral Act. “Mr Governor then decided to engage the police authorities, calling attention to the inherent illegality and the partisan implications of the police position on the subject. The police authorities later bow to fair policing requirements and withdraw their reported opposition to the hosting of the rally. “We submit that the rally was held under all legal conditions. Mr Governor did not disobey any police directive because there was no legal directive to obey. The police after engagement only realised its errors and withdrew what was apparently a partisan stance. “On the minor incident of stage collapse, the truth is that there were a few hiccups at the beginning. It was fixed and the programme proceeded with a huge crowd of voters and canvassers. All key leaders spoke and Mr Governor rounded it up with the official inauguration of the canvassers. The videos are all over social media. “Our hale and hearty governor addressed the crowd and sang and danced with thousands of canvassers. Details of speeches were issued in a statement. The Osun APC cannot deny what the public can see, watch and read on their mobile telephones. “On the spiritual dimension of today’s event, that such a mammoth crowd can grace such an event in the home constituency of its campaign director general and its sitting Senator confirm the political death of APC in Ijeshaland and Osun state as a whole. “Again, that the event was successfully held after the desperate bid of Osun APC to stop it and that the programme also proceeded after initial hiccups, signal supreme victory over Bola Oyebamiji and continuity of Adeleke governorship ”, the Spokesperson narrated. While debunking all the fake news emanating from the Osun APC, the governor's spokesperson concluded that the mammoth crowd at the canvassers’ rally is a signpost of what will happen across Osun state, affirming that “by God and people, Governor Adeleke will be re-elected come August 15”. APC Accuses Gov. Adeleke of Fueling Political Violence in Osun • Demands Urgent Intervention by IGP, DSS, NSCDC and Other Security Agencies The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned in the strongest possible terms the growing culture of intimidation, harassment, brigandage and violence being perpetrated by criminal elements acting under the influence and protection of the ruling party in the state. The main opposition party charged Governor Ademola Adeleke to call his suspected political foot soldiers, supporter of APC and thugs to order before they plunge Osun State into a deeper state of insecurity and make the state increasingly ungovernable. The APC called for immediate intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and all other relevant security agencies to urgently stem the rising tide of political violence in Osun State. The party, at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, jointly addressed by the APC Director General for the 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Engr Benjamin Adereti, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke and National Commissioner, Federal Civil Service representing Osun and Oyo states, Dr Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega, urged the international community, election observers, civil society organisations and defenders of democracy to pay close attention to developments in Osun State and hold accountable all those who seek to undermine democratic values through violence, intimidation and political persecution. Hon. Oke also appealed to the good spirited citizens and organizations to impress it on Governor Adeleke to surrender the thugs and criminals his government are allegedly harbouring in the Government House and other places. "Only yesterday, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, campaign buses belonging to the APC were attacked and vandalized by suspected PDP/Accord hoodlums in the Owode-Ede area. The attack left several AMBO supporters injured while campaign materials and other valuable property were destroyed. "Such brazen acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and should alarm every well-meaning citizen of Osun State. It is important to note that Owode-Ede has, in recent years, gained notoriety as a flashpoint for politically-motivated attacks against members of our party. "The public would recall that in 2022, the wife of the former Governor of Osun State, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, was attacked in the same area while serving as the First Lady of the state. The recurrence of violent incidents in the community raises serious concerns about the activities of criminal elements who appear emboldened by the absence of firm action from those in authority. "Why should the electoral preference of a citizen become a criminal offence? Why should supporters of a political party be subjected to violence merely for exercising their constitutional rights? Why should a governor, either directly or through body language, create an atmosphere that emboldens supporters and kinsmen to attack fellow citizens because they hold contrary political opinions? "Even more disturbing are reports that one of Governor Adeleke's appointees, Nurudeen Alowonle, who was arrested with a firearm and ammunition two years ago and remains wanted by law enforcement authorities, led in Osogbo yesterday a band of armed thugs in violent confrontations against a breakaway faction of his own group. "Governor Adeleke-branded buses were reportedly seen conveying questionable characters brandishing dangerous weapons and firing gunshots in public spaces. Available information suggests that the crisis stems from growing dissatisfaction with Alowonle's leadership among members of the faction. "Unfortunately, innocent citizens have suffered injuries in the ensuing violence, while law-abiding residents continue to live in fear as criminal elements linked to the PDP and Accord Party turn parts of Osogbo into theatres of violence and lawlessness", the Campaign Council added.

INTERVIEW: What to Know About Amotekun, Akinlalu and Osun Security Updates-Olawale Rasheed Spokesperson /Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke spoke extensively on the Amotekun Service and general security situation in Osun State in this interview on Rave FM Frank Talk. How does the state government react to the tragedy incident in Akinlalu? What immediate action has the Governor taken to restore peace in the affected community beyond visiting the town? Olawale Rasheed: Thank you very much. Let me first put a background. B the time, the unfortunate incident happened, the Governor was out of the country. He went out for a brief medical check-up, so he was not in the country when it happened. But from his base in the US, he was giving directives to the Deputy Governor, to the Secretary to the State Government, to the Chief of Staff, to the relevant cabinet members, to security agencies. The next thing that was done was to ensure that a very high power government team visited Akinlalu for on the spot assessment. On that team were all the security service chiefs from police to DSS and others, including Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor. They went there to do on the spot assessment and to meet the Kabiyesi and others. On their return, the deputy speaker, who is actually from the area representing the people, led another delegation on the directive of the governor, to go and now meet and see what can be done immediately to cushion the consequences on the victims. Apart from that, the Governor did something immediately, he publicly condemned the killings and vowed that justice would be done, and all the culprits and the suspects would be made to face the law, In fact, we issued a statement, and a State Security Council meeting was convened where all these issues, the Akinlalu, the banditry issue from Kwara and others were discussed. So, he took immediate steps even when he was not in the country. Then the second step the Governor took was that he cut short his medical vacation to say, “let me abandon this check-up, let me quickly to home and sort out this matter.” He arrived the country day before yesterday and very early in the morning yesterday, he took off from Lagos and faced Akinlalu in company of top government and security officials. At Akinlalu, the people understood the scenario and refused the politicization of the unfortunate incident. Akinlalu people rejected the politicisation of the incident by the opposition. The Governor has done what he should do as Chief Security Officer of the state namely condemning the killing, commencing reform of Amotekun, announcing that he will never interfere in the police investigation, announcing that whoever is involved in the unfortunate incident should face the wrath of the law, commiserating with the victims, promising compensation and by ensuring that police have freeway to do their job. Let me ask you what exactly transpired, and I asked because there are some conflicting reports and some are linking the killings to security lapses. Some say that the report that Amotekun responded to a call was not true that it was a vengeance attack by the amotekun. You must have had some preliminary reports on this, what happened? Olawale Rasheed: When you are having active investigation, it is unprofessional to speak about it. The commissioner of police, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operation actually gave update yesterday at Akinlalu. He said they’ve arrested some Amotekun suspects. He said 20 were arrested already and he said they are still trying to arrest some who are still at large. Now as to what actually transpired, you know normally that is the realm of the police, they are the ones conducting the investigation. All the hearsay, rumour and facts or falsehood that may have gotten to the public space may not be actually reliable until when the police conclude its investigation and say this is what actually happened at Akinlalu. These are the suspects and we are arraigning the Suspects before the court of law. So it will be out of place for me to actually talk about it because whatever I say now people can hold it against the government. We want the police to do their job, and the Governor has ordered that he will not interfere or intervene in the police investigation. And as a loyal servant of Mr Governor, I won’t want to talk about those details. Let the police do their job and let the police then address the public as to what actually planned. I totally understand that Mallam. Then some say that this incident occurred because of Security lapses that since Security meetings does not hold periodically. That the Security Council meeting holds at the instance of the Governor, no plan to even say when the next security council meeting will happen. Olawale Rasheed That is not true. State Security Council Meeting holds every month. And let me tell you something. When the Governor is not around, the Deputy Governor is always around and if he is not around, there is hierarchy and a system. So, the system runs on it own, all that needs to be done is to activate the regular running of the system. Okay, let me give you an instance. The Security Council Meeting was held on Monday. The Governor was not there; he was in US. What is State Security Council Meeting? We have the assemblage of all security chiefs, Police, customs, army, paramilitary services including Amotekun. It is always a confidential security meeting deliberating on security reports from across the state. The council check out security threats, ensure solutions are put in place. For example, the last security meeting dealt with the Akinlalu matter, the issue of how to stop the infiltration of bandits from Kwara, Ekiti states and other sundry issues. So it is not true that security council meeting has not been holding. It has been holding and it is monthly. And again, there are many security meetings that are not for public consumption. I can tell you that between Monday when the State Security Council meeting was held, there was another council meeting yesterday. You will be surprised if I say that before Akinlalu visitation. In their yesterday’s meeting, a full review was also done as to the state of security in Osun and how far the implementation of the resolution of the Monday meeting has gone. So, if the Governor is not there, we have the Deputy Governor and if he is also not there, you have top ranking leaders down the line who normally ensure that things are running. The allegation of security lapses is the fake news from the opposition. You know the opposition because election is close by, has been latching on everything they can get, and fake news has become a tool of their propaganda. But the Governor has a job to do and the job to do is to deliver on good governance, democratic dividends to the people of Osun State who elected him and are going to re-elect him by God’s grace next year. Alright, thank you Mallam. I do acknowledge that there has been relative peace in Osun State for a long while and the Nigerian Police Force have been doing a beautiful job but then don’t you think this incident is a stain on the boarder security strategy of the Adeleke administration. Say especially rural policing. Olawale Rasheed: Thank you very much. Now let me dwell on the issue of interagency partnership and synergy, that you refer to. We have Amotekun across Southwest because there was a gap in grassroots policing and all along the Amotekun and the police and the DSS, they have been working cooperatively. There have been largely no issues. In fact, since Governor Adeleke took over, interagency harmony and synergy have become top notch. There has not been physical confrontation between two services; here have been partnership between Amotekun and other services. Amotekun down there in the grassroots, feed the police and the DSS. The partnership is there. Let attempt this scenario. If you have an infraction at one police post, maybe in Ayedire, is that a license to now profile and condemn the whole police service. And again, when a police man commits an infraction, you won’t go around to arrest the commissioner for police. Let say a police man shoots somebody at Ikire, and what you are doing is that you want the commissioner of police arrested, that is an abnormality. What is done is that, if there is an operative that committed an infraction, you check which town; who are those on ground ; who fired the shot; then you pick them, you apply the rule, the law and charge them to court. Mallam, maybe this is a peculiar case there has been reports earlier of high handedness of Amotekun operatives that his men has been like that, maybe not all of them. They have been reports earlier that he didn’t bring them over. Olawale Rasheed: If there are reports that the Amotekun has not been working in certain way or there are errors, the question is what is the procedure for correction? Amotekun is set up by state law, the oversight function and provision are there. What is the oversight function? If we discover that police or DSS or any other service have committed an infraction, the law provides for oversight. Who do we complain to? Is it from the oversight in the House of Assembly or through Executive arm or the office or Special Advisers on security matters? if all these oversight structure fails to take it up. Then you also have another line, line of applying to the court for infraction of fundamental rights, just like we have been doing to the police, DSS. Now you go to court when the oversight function failed to curb the excesses that you refer to then you apply to court for action, to claim damages. These are structures in place to be accessed by all residents if Amotekun committed any infraction. You cannot because of infraction from one area or another decapitate the agency.. If we have been doing that, we won’t have police, we won’t want DSS, we won’t have army. Security agencies are subject to oversight and judicial regulations when they err. That is to show you that the system work if we allow it to, if people don’t politicize it. So in the case of Amotekun, if there are problems in its operation, then we apply the oversight infrastructure. We have the State Assembly, we can raise petition. Or we go to the governor or we call the SA security who has been in the security sector for more than three or four decades to say we have a petition. Let me tell you, the Chairman of Amotekun is a retired AIG, top notch retired AIG Wale Abass, former Commissioner of Police in several states. What I want to say is there is a board of Amotekun that actually monitor the oversight activities of the commanding cadre. Our people need to understand that we need Amotekun, we need police, we need thebArmy and all of them. If there are issues on their operational code, we don’t have to throw away the baby with the bath water. We should just allow the system to work. We should not say because there is an infraction we should now bring down the whole house. I was going to raise that later but since you are there, lets just talk about it a little bit more. We are having this debate that Amotekun should be done away with. And I read Deputy Speaker of House of Assembly in Osun calling for calm saying we should not throw away the baby with bath water. But for those who say there are too many infractions that we should do away with Amotekun. What will the state government do considering the fact that you have an architecture ready and a protocol of what should be done? Read more from the source |
Osun Killings: Omole reacts to faceless group, Osun Govt over attack on Sen Fadahunsi Comrade Omole Oluwasegun Omo-Osodi, founder of the Atunluse Asoludero Movement—a socio-political group in Osun State—has condemned the position of a group known as Concerned Citizens of Osun over the ongoing incident of Amotekun Corps, described the group as a faceless and politically sponsored group. In a statement signed by Omole Oluwasegun President and Founder of the Atunluse Asoludero Movement on Saturday, urged the Osun State government to cease exploiting discontented citizens in the name of politics. He questioned how many of those so-called concerned citizens have themselves been affected by the murderous acts of the Amotekun group. The statement read in parts; “My attention has been drawn to a faceless and sponsored group, launched baseless attacks against Senator Francis Fadahunsi under the guise of ‘Fadahunsi’s Reckless Comment on Amotekun: A Shameful Abuse of Power and Arrogant Overreach". On any reasonable day, I would not respond to such faceless entities, but knowing that my constituents are reasonable and knowledgeable, I feel compelled to speak against this politics of bitterness. “It is on record that Adeleke’s administration has brought shame and a blatant abuse of power to Osun State. Our principal, Senator Fadahunsi, has maintained peace, but his peaceful character has been exploited by illiterates meddling with Osun State affairs. “Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District and holds the highest political office in the area, will not allow thugs to endanger the lives of his constituents. “Osun State’s Amotekun has become a hideout for criminals and thugs. “It is laughable and deeply disturbing that any reasonable group would defend the current Amotekun for killing and terrorizing innocent Osun citizens since its inception under its current leadership. “Where was this so-called Concerned Citizens group in February when innocent Osun people were killed over the illegal local government elections? They were silent when over eleven law-abiding citizens in Ido-Ayegunle were also murdered. “In February, we lost four persons in Ilesa and one in Ikire, with more than 25 others wounded by gunshots. “The Esa-Oke Obaship crisis claimed four lives, including the brutal murder of an elderly man whose head was severed and taken away; twelve more were seriously injured. The Osun government has yet to bring the culprits to justice. “Similarly, Akinlalu, a small community in Ife North, suffered mayhem from Amotekun earlier this month, losing four lives and leaving eight others hospitalized with gunshot wounds. “We call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun MNI, to immediately arrest the State Commander of Amotekun, who has terrorized market women, communities, and opposition figures, and transfer him to Abuja to face murder charges, as he still has an outstanding murder charge. “It is no exaggeration to say that Senator Fadahunsi remains the true voice of the masses and cannot be silenced by the state government. “Both PDP and Governor Adeleke must stop dragging Osun into unnecessary tension and political theatrics,” Omole stated. Responding to the group’s claim that “The people of Osun stand firmly behind Amotekun, a symbol of homegrown security and community trust” and “Our collective resolve is to support, reform, and strengthen Amotekun, not destroy it with politics of bitterness and ego trips,” Omole retorted, “Who else but their paymasters and co-conspirators stand behind murderers?” The group also claimed, “True leaders build institutions; pretenders destroy them for self-glorification. Senator Fadahunsi should choose which side of history he wishes to stand on.” Omole countered that Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi OFR is an institution in himself, a man whose voice commands respect in Osun and across Nigeria’s political space.
