Activities are set to commence for the governorship primary of the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State. The primary which is taking place on Saturday has Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and 15 others including Senator Jimoh Ibrahim in the race for the party’s ticket. Also in the race are Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olusola Oke; former President of Nigerian Medical Association, Professor Francis Faduyile; Dr Funmi Waheed-Adekojo and the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Isaacs Kekemeke. Others are Dr Soji Ehinlanwo, Akinfolarin Samuel, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, General Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Iyanjan, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Judith Omogoroye. For the primary, the APC opted for the direct mode and the exercise is to take place simultaneously in 203 wards in the 18 local government areas of the state. In all, 171, 922 members of the party drawn from the 203 wards will determine the party’s candidate for the governorship election which is scheduled to take place on November 16, 2020. Fourteen of the aspirants in the race are males, while two are females. Also, fourteen of the 16 aspirants are from Ondo South, while Ondo North and Ondo Central have an aspirant each. This is considered a factor in the race because, since 1999, Ondo South and Ondo North have each produced a governor twice, while Ondo Central has only produced a governor once in former Governor Olusegun Mimiko. Accreditation for the exercise is expected to commence by 10 am and last till noon while voting is to commence by 1 pm and end an hour later. As of 8:45 am, the Chairman of the seven-man primary committee, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State had arrived in the state for the exercise. Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is part of the committee.

Who knows this might be helpful, considering the level of insecurity in Nigeria. Before one can own a gun anywhere in the world, a license is required. While information about gun license vary from sources, below are consensus steps to acquiring a gun license in Nigeria. And where one can buy firearms. *Eligibility Applicants must be Eighteen years (18) years or older (we will come back to this) Clean criminal record Doctor’s certificate that certifies physical and mental fitness Required documents 4 Passport size photographs Attested copy of address proof: Ration Card, Voter Identity Card, Passport, Electricity/ Water/Telephone Bill, Driving Licence, Property (House) Tax, Tax Return, National identification Card Attested copy of date of birth: Police clearance Certificate, Birth certificate, Affidavit sworn before a Magistrate/Notary stating date and place of birth by illiterate or semi-illiterate applicants. *Procedure Make an application to the Commissioner of Police in your State of residence. The police will issue you with an application form that will require your bio-data. Some of the pertinent information required are: Your full names Address Reasons for applying for the license Date of Birth. Note here that guns are not issued to persons below thirty-five (35) years of age. (This is funny because the eligibility section says applicants must be 18 years and older. But you get the gist). Further required to accompany the application form is a medical report that confirms that the applicant’s sanity is normal. Another medical report is also required on the applicants chest. This is to protect the applicant from the sharp retraction that occurs when a gun is fired. Four (4) clear passport photographs of the applicant are also required. On obtaining your gun from the nearest gun dealer, prices vary depending on area of purchase; the police should normally register the serial number of the weapon. Upon a satisfactory appraisal of the application the license is issued in a booklet form, bearing one of the passport photographs of the applicant and carrying the stamp of the state police headquarters. *Gun types available for acquisition Private gun license is also limited to shotguns, as revolvers and pistols are only issued to the police and armed forces personnel. *Where to buy? There are many underground ways to buy guns in Nigeria. From smuggling it in (same way drugs are smuggled) to buying at black markets (don’t ask us where o) to buying from (ex)militants, and so on. There are local craftsmen who can mold one for you – those who make rifles for hunters, etc. You can even buy under the table from people in active (para)military service. But (for now), the legal place to buy a gun in Nigeria is at Operations Department of the Nigerian Police Force. *Price An alleged cultist and armed robber recently confessed to buying a gun for N30,000. But that is black market rate. Approved shotguns usually cost between N100,000 and N250,000 in Nigeria. Notes Gun licenses are subject to renewal every year for a token fee of five hundred naira (N500.00) only. Processing takes between 6 months to one year. The license is valid for 60 days, then after renewal it can be valid for 1- 2 years before another renewal is required.

Divorce is clearly not a pleasant subject to discuss, considering its effect on both parties and the children of the union and a person in a marriage would always be urged to find a way of reconciling their differences. However, it is important for any person seeking divorce to be fully acquainted with the process. When it is clear that the boat of marriage has hit the rock, it is important to take the necessary legal steps to formally terminate the relationship. There are two ways to legally end a marriage - annulment and divorce. The court of law is usually a last resort for the resolution of many marital issues. *Difference Between Annulment and Divorce The main difference between a divorce and an annulment is that a divorce ends a legally valid marriage, while an annulment formally declares a marriage to have been legally invalid. A decree of nullity is a declaration by a court that your marriage never existed in the eyes of the law. It means that no valid marriage exists between you and your partner. A divorce ends a legal marriage and declares the spouses to be single again. It is sought when the parties acknowledge that the marriage existed However, annulment is a legal ruling that erases a marriage by declaring the marriage null and void and that the union was never legally valid. What it means is that the marriage is void ab-initio. This is sought when one or both of the spouses believe that there was something legally invalid about the marriage in the first place. *Ground for Divorce There is only one ground for obtaining a decree of divorce and that is when your marriage has irretrievably broken down. In order to prove that a marriage has irretrievably broken down proof of one or more of eight facts stated in section 15 (2) (a) (h) of the Act, They are as follows: a. that the respondent has persistently and willfully refused to consummate the marriage; b. that since the marriage the Respondent has committed adultery and the petitioner finds it intolerable to live with the respondent; c. that since the marriage the respondent has behaved in such a manner that the petitioner can’t reasonably be expected to live with the respondent; d. that the respondent has deserted the petitioner for a constant period of at least one year immediately preceding the presentation of the petition; e. that the parties to the marriage have lived apart for a constant period of a minimum of 2 years immediately preceding the presentation of the respondent, as well as the petition, doesn’t object to a decree being granted; f. that the parties to the marriage have lived apart for a constant period of a minimum of 3 years immediately preceding the presentation of the petition; g. that the other party to the marriage has, for a period of not less than one year failed to comply with a decree or perhaps restitution of conjugal rights made under that Act; h. that the other party to the marriage has been absent from the petitioner for time that is such and in circumstances that are such as to provide good grounds for presuming that he or perhaps she’s dead. Divorce Process Every matrimonial cause or divorce process in Nigeria shall be commenced by Petition – Section 54(1) MCA. The petitioner commences or institutes matrimonial proceedings by a PETITION. The Respondent can also file an answer to the petition. And the Petitioner may also file a reply to the answer. The respondent can also cross-petition-which is in the form of another petition. Then Trial may commence. *Conclusion A statutory marriage divorce process is a serious court proceeding in Nigeria, which requires parties to retain the services of legal practitioners. In order for a suit of dissolution of marriage to be successful in Nigeria, the petitioner must have brought his or her petition in line with the grounds stated under the Matrimonial Causes Act and must satisfy the various requirements of the law. #COPIED

As part of measures to reduce the country’s unemployment rate, the Federal Government has vowed to punish companies who continue to abuse the expatriate quota, saying with an efficient quota management system in place, it hopes to generate about 60, 000 middle-level employment opportunities annually. The government decried a situation where so-called expatriates engage in scam marriages in order to dubiously acquire Nigerian citizenship while others engage in jobs such as bricklaying, painting and even hawking vegetables. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at one-day stakeholders meeting on Expatriate Quota Administration. He said while the President Muhammadu Buhari administration arrives to ease foreign direct investments, it would however not jeopardize local content considerations. According to him, every nation regulates its economic relations with other nations in a mutually beneficial way, but putting its national interest and citizens above others. “It is a healthy competition that has survived the test of time. If properly and effectively managed, it will lead to technology transfer, manpower development and rapid industrialisation. Where nations are careless or unmindful, it leads to untoward consequences of lopsided and imbalanced relationship, foreign domination and stunted development of the host country’s personnel and economy and ultimately creates a dependency syndrome. This is not some far-fetched idea. We have suffered this syndrome to a reasonable degree due to non-diligent implementation of the rules and guidelines and it is what we are trying to correct now. It is also replicable in many African and developing economies. So, this is a very serious national policy and I want you to give it the seriousness it deserves. “To be sure, an average of 30,000 expatriate quotas are issued and given to about 4,000 companies annually. In strict compliance with local content regulation and national interest, about 60,000 middle level employment opportunities are expected annually through the compulsory understudy programme for knowledge and skill transfer”, he stated. Aregbesola added that “the outcome of the meeting will tie up a lot of loose ends in the obsolete handbook last reviewed in 2004, which has been in use as a guide to granting approvals to requests for various types of expatriate quota made to the Ministry of Interior”. He said some of the abuses that the government has discovered are egregious. “We have seen cases of expatriates fraudulently coming in to work as bricklayers, painters and even high-end consorts. Some also circumvent the rules by dubiously acquiring Nigerian citizenship through scam marriages. The funny but tragic case of some Asians hawking vegetables went viral. These are clear economic sabotage acts that should be detected, stopped and sanctioned”, he stated. He charged stakeholders at the meeting to come up with a brand new, well-articulated Handbook on Expatriate Quota Administration. Among his charge to the participants are that at the end of the meeting “we would have a fair and reasonable sanctions that will be effective enough to curb abuses of Business Permit and Expatriate Quota; “That the benefits and revenues accruable to the country would now begin to pour in, and that the teeming unemployed youth in Nigeria would have increased opportunities for employment through the understudy programme stipulated in the Expatriate Quota guideline; and “Companies and Organizations that are clients of the Ministry’s Citizenship and Business department would have a clear understanding of the guidelines and issues surrounding the administration of Business Permit and Expatriate Quota. They would understand what it takes to cooperate with the Ministry in its bid to provide effective and efficient services to the nation”. The Minister had last December inaugurated a nine-man Special Task Force on Business Permit and Expatriate Quota Administration, saddling them with the responsibility to investigate, inspect, penalize and enforce sanctions on organizations confirmed to have abused the utilization of expatriate quotas in Nigeria, whether they are indigenous, joint ventures or wholly foreign. Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore said the Ministry has established online linkages with Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service while the linkages with the Corporate Affairs Commission and Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board are in its final stages. “These linkages are to enable the Ministry communicate swiftly with the respective agencies especially to confirm the authenticity of documents uploaded in support of an application thus reducing the time required for processing applications”, Belgore stated.

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje will unveil Super Eagles forward and captain, Ahmed Musa before the commencement of the Nigeria Professional Football League’s second stanza after his sensational return to his boyhood club. Musa who has been without a club completed his return after due consultations with the League Management Company of Nigeria (LMC). A statement signed by media officer of the club, Rilwanu Idris Malikawa which was obtained from the club’s website reads: “Ahmad Musa is our own and Pillars FC will continue to support him anytime and anywhere he found himself. The contract with Pillars includes that once Musa gets an offer, he would be released by the club. Musa during his first stint with Pillars Malikawa concluded that after completing all the necessary documentations, Ahmed Musa would be unveiled by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje before the commencement of the second stanza of the league. Musa was an unused sub during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho. His inclusion in the list of invited players was heavily criticized because of his lack of playing time. Kano Pillars currently top the NPFL table alongside Kwara United with 36 points each from 19 matches albeit with an inferior goal difference. WE WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK....
