Thank you so much. Wasn't sure why I couldn't see that option. I assumed they had paused it.

foxyvisa:

The super priority slots are usually released at midnight every day. I managed to get a slot at exactly 12:05 midnight. I kept refreshing the browser tab from 11:50pm.

Good luck

Hello everyone,

Congratulations to everyone.

Has anyone experienced not having the super priority payment option when completing the ILR application form? I really don't want the standard option. Thanks.

Sorry and apologies i did read it back and it did sound confusing.

I applied in May 2020 online application. I could not then book biometrics because of Covid19 i have just been invited to do biometrics and upload docs. I had everything in plan but lost my bank statements anf cant find them. Therefore i am using the ones from online issue date is in June 2020 after the application date will that be a problem?

Also i meant as in delaying doing biometrics and sending docs through the App so we can travel and come back and complete the application? As we didnt get an email to say complete it before a particular date.

Also will it be a problem if unable to provide corrospondent letters in same month for one of the months. In 2019 i have got Jan docs for both of us but can only find Aug for partner and sept for myself no other docs will that be okay?

Sorry and thanks hope that makes sense?

You are advised not to travel out of the UK until your application has been decided otherwise you won't be allowed back in.

Okay. But how do we send our supporting documents and submit biometrics?

Bourne007:
On the link under 'Application and Service Centres in the UK', it says you cannot book an appointment. And if you've already booked, you will be contacted to be informed that it has been cancelled. Whether regular, super or super duper o, they all fall under the same category grin

It's very easy for some people to sit comfortably in their homes and start judging people who are putting their lives on the line. Someone on here mentioned something about if soldiers die, they die. What kind of callous, stupid and disrespectful statement is that? If you have lost a brother or sister or child in the military then maybe you will understand. A soldier is a human being with a name and family. They sign up to do what most people can't and sometimes pay with their lives.

No healthcare practitioner is paid to put their lives on the line. They are human beings too and have families who love them and don't want to lose them. Every employee regardless of doctors and nurses should be able to carry out their duties without fear of risk or harm.

Please please please keep your insensitivity to yourself and try to have some empathy. I am curious to know when you have ever put your life on line for anyone else or even a stranger?

G.day house. Please can someone who is a UK citizen migrate to Canada without going through the normal process. What are the various ways by which a British citizen can migrate legally to Canada. I will appreciate responses please. Many thanks

Canada offers a migration program called The International Experience Canada program available to citizens of certain countries including the UK. A few people I know migrated from the UK to Canada using this program. You can search google or join some IEC groups on Facebook for more information on how it works. https://www./ocanada.iec.discussion.support/?ref=share

Yes, there's no particular advantage, a Briton has over a Nigerian in the Canadian Express Entry process, it's entirely point based and all applicants are assessed on a level playing field. If you've got the time, the thread link below would guide you to more details:

https://www.nairaland.com/5471101/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled

This is not correct. British citizens have a different pathway for migration to Canada.

Thanks a lot. I think I will be asking my bank for at least 12 months bank statement. My payslips are electronic from 3 different employers.

edondoo:
Yes, I would print the documents and take to the appointment. Make sure they are official documents though. Tell your bank to print official bank statements for you (if it longer than 3 months they may need to send it to your home) and tell your employer to stamp or sign your payslips.

Travel / Re: Applying For FLR After Your Initial UK Spouse Visa (extension) by teejay231: 5:39pm On Jan 26, 2020
I was thinking to scan the documents myself. A lot of my documents are electronic documents so do I have to print and take to the appointment? Do they scan in any other? Especially concerning mixing financial documents - bank statements, payslips, contract and offer letters with address correspondence documents.

edondoo:
I'm not sure about putting your documents into groups. Since I did the super priority service they scanned the documents for me. I just had it in these groups, in the folder I took to the appointment.

Hang in there you are not alone. I had the same problem and spent months going for countless interviews even in neighbouring towns and cities wasting money on travel. Simply take it as part of the learning experience and prepare better for the next. Most companies are reluctant if you have no UK experience. Some tell you straight away while others just waste your time. Try to pick up on what software testing tools are in demand from speaking with recruiters and try practicing at home. Most testing these days are automated. Try setting up a LinkedIn profile if you don't already have one. Also create a technical CV for your software testing applications which is different from a regular CV as it excludes all non technical experience. Create profiles on cv-library.co.uk, reed.co.uk, indeed.com and co-hire.com.

I applied for every kind of job. It's a starting point. With time you will get the job you want as long as you have the skills for it.

Thanks for the reply. You have been very helpful. I do have my p60 for year ending March 2019 but have changed jobs twice since then and don't have a recent p60. I was thinking of doing the scanning myself. Also do you have to put the documents in groups / section when scanned? Thanks.

edondoo:
Sorry for the late reply.

Your employer should be able to give you access to your p60. We just had an online portal I could print them from, then I went to get it stamped by my employer to make it more legit. In addition, I did send all the pages of my contract. When you pay for expedited service there is no limit to what you can send to UKVI so I just took all I could. The guy that was scanning my documents had to tell me to chill. grin

Goodluck on your application.

I agree 200% with you. I have 2 UK masters degrees and I still struggled to find a proper job initially due to my initial lack of the UK commercial experience. I will always advise people to look at job descriptions and learn the skills in demand. Someone also mentioned certifications in a previous post. In my experience, I think technical certifications are more important than master degrees. I know a few young guys who are already tech leads and don't even have a bachelors degree. They are however loaded with skills and lots of experience. I had to teach myself almost everything that was in demand and built my portfolio from small freelance projects. Lots of free videos on YouTube or sign up on Lynda.com. That is what got me through the door. Once you get in, you start picking up more new skills, gaining experience and then you make yourself irreplaceable at the company. The IT industry is continuously evolving so you must keep up to date even outside work. Most companies allocate a learning and development budget for every employee you can use for certifications and conferences.

my family person is in not from an IT background from Nigeria but i have advised him to start MSC this January in information security , we looked at cyber security as well.... So the plan i have for him is what i will share with you . Cyber is better then Pm just (from a saturation perspective,There are way more PM everywhere) but UK is still about relevant work experience . That year of masters dont just attend classes and go home. Map out a plan on how you will build "that relevant work" experience. Go and look at job description and learn those .... Once you can get that relevant experience on your CV then that helps . Degree on MSC will hardly be enough to get you in the door .learn industry knowledge and learn it well ,it get you into the door and keep you inside

Probably some cyber security roles may not require programming skills but it helps to have basic knowledge I reckon.

My current job is mostly based of my experience in a previous role and how well I did in the technical assessment. I have only ever been offered one role where I never did a technical assessment. Not just technical questions but actually a demo project. Some companies invite you to their offices to do it with one of your potential colleagues just to see how you get on. I interviewed for IBM once and had to give a presentation in a room with Q&A. That's excluding all the various analytical assessments I did prior. Unless it's not a mid to senior level role or it's a small company desperate for engineers.

dustydee:
I am not a cyber security expert but my former cyber security colleague did not know how to program. He encouraged me to become one but I wasn't sure if I'd have the time for the training.
Also, information security is another field that people can go into. And yes you sometimes do not require actual experience of you have the basic foundation, can defend yourself and your CV during interviews and learn fast on the job. I have learnt the hard way in the UK that humility will seldom land you a job. Do not lie but make your job look very big and important.

Sir/ma, this is not particularly true. It may be true for graduate positions or software roles but largely untrue for engineering roles. Except if by technical assessment you mean being asked technical questions in interviews which in most cases is a given. During my interview for my current role, I wasn't really asked any technical question. They just went through my CV with me to see if I have done some of what they wanted me to do. I was then invited for a face to face interview which I thought was going to be technical but they only wanted to see my face and that one lasted about 15mins because I had to ask them several questions to justify my time there.

security is encompassing. people in mathematics are doing it, people in computer are doing it, people in engineering are doing it, people in mgt are doing i. That you are doing https and tls/ssl is not where security begins or ends

Not sure why you would be so condescending and assume that I don't know where security begins or ends. If you must know, my background and experience is vast. I am currently a dev as it was my passion and it doesn't feel like work.

Not sure how anyone can understand cloud infrastructure without some basic coding skills. From my experience, every technical position in the UK requires a technical test / assessment to ensure that you can do what you say you can do. Sometimes you can do it at home and other times they want you to do it in their office in front of a few people or as a peering exercise to see how you work with other people.

One thing I have also learned is to never lie or brag on your CV. Better to say you don't know something but willing to learn and focus on what your strengths.

Aphrodite007:

Baba I dey tell you, you won’t need to code in cyber security. Power shell, yes, MCSE, probably. You just need knowledge of cloud computing.

Normally as an technical person, they would expect you to have basic knowledge of programming. I’m not a coder but I have basic knowledge that can allow me brag at interviews. That’s all. If you get into the role and they now ask you to code, you watch YouTube and code. Simple.

90% of coding is reused anyway, so you’re allowed to google. Also, not all adverts know what they are asking for: IT and Med are complex fields to employ for.

One of my previous managers didn't have a college degree nor any certifications and he is currently Head of Engineering. It's all about skills and work experience. Almost every engineering position requires a technical assessment, so bluffing in your CV or interview will not help if you don't have the skills.

LagosismyHome:

I would say depending on what level you want to enter in ..... while industry knowledge is different from education knowledge and the higher seller is industry more than certificate , a certification in IT helps. For senior roles it's less of certification and more about relevant work experience .

However at the bottom of the chain if you are wanting to enter and then climb up then certification helps to enhance the lack of experience. What most important after that certification is how you sell yourself on the CV , the interview and how it deliver and grow from there

I am a software developer and I have also dabbled in security. As a developer, if you don't have the basic security skills then you will never get anywhere. Most computer science programs in the UK teach you all the relevant skills and then it's up to you to focus on your specialty or what you want.

jesmond3945:
security is a specialized skill on its own. Not every software developer can do it. I am one so I am in a better stead to tell you.

Congratulations! I will be applying in a few weeks and currently trying to prepare and avoid having to pay a lawyer thousands of pounds. I paid for my first application before discovering naira land threads and would really love to avoid doing that again.

I do have a question though. How did you obtain your p60? Also did you send all pages of your employment contract? I have had 4 contracts so far. Thanks.

edondoo:
Hi All,

This thread (and the initial UK Spousal Visa thread) has been of immense help to me and my wife during the application processes. I was going to pay a lawyer thousands of pounds for information and guidance you guys are providing for free. Thank you all very much. I got approved last year November, but just got around to posting my list of information:

Proof of Identity / Travel History
British Residence Permit for Applicant
Applicants' International passport (original)
Spouse passport (Original)
Applicant Passport Photograph

Proof of Application
Relationship Declaration
Consent for Applicant
Marriage certificate (Original)
Printout of Application

Proof of Cohabitation
Proof of property ownership from the owner of property you live in ie mortgage statement
"Letter signed by the owner of property you live in stating that you have
permission to live there"
Copy of an ID document of the owner of the property you live in
Car insurance certificates
Mobile phone contracts
Pensions Letter (Combination of Previous and current Jobs )
GP Letters
Letter from Relative or Friends confirming that partner and I lived with them for
some or all of the 2 years

Finances
Letter from my employer
Applicant's Payslips from 2017
Applicant's bank statements (2016-2019)
Applicant p60 for relevant period
Applicant's Signed Contract of Employment

Educational/Proof of English language
English language test certificate A2

Other
Printout IHS payment
Printout IHS reference number
Printout UK visa application payment
Printout appointment confirmation

We applied approximately 7 days before the expiry of my initial visa. We did this for several reasons: not applying before 28 days from the expiry of visa as per UKVI rules, and also when it comes to applying for ILR you need to have been here 5 years total or else you'll have to do this same process to cover the time between the expiry of FLR and the 5 years which could end up being a matter of 1 month. We used the super priority service and got a decision in 3 hours by text. To me, it was worth it for peace of mind. Plus my job was on my case about the visa so it was nice to be able to give them an answer asap.

Once again, thank you guys for all your help! Best of luck.

I understand all of that. My question was why an MSc in Cybersecurity? Is there a demand for it in the current marketplace?

Simran94:

Well technology is getting deeper by the day and the more we go in the more cyber threats we get. For instance, our computers, our mobile phones, our TVs, the devices we use are all connected to the internet, so much of our lives is dependent on the internet which has the power to break us more than ever. This is where Cybersecurity comes in as we need something there to keep us protected from the outside forces that comes in through the internet.

Thanks a lot, you have been so helpful.

I want to include a cover letter as we don't have utility bills in our names and I currently use another address for work, Monday to Friday. Also, curious what documents other than utility bills can I use? Any correspondence to the same address? I apologise for all the questions

abubarakat:
It wouldn't hurt to add a cover letter but it's not a requirement. However, please be mindful of the content of the letter. You don't want to open any unnecessary can of worms.

The supporting guide clearly states that you are allowed to submit documents in each of your names, if you don't have documents in joint names.

You only need to submit one document each for each document you don't have in joint names. In other words, 12 documents (6 each) covering the last 2 years before the date of your application. PLEASE make sure the documents cover at least 2 years before the date of your application.

All the documents I submitted for my application were not in joint names; they were mixed (single and joint).
